Inday Acquires Vegetarian Restaurant Chain By Chloe | Eater NY

"At 545 Johnson Avenue near Stewart Avenue, I read that an 8,000-square-foot space will become the new home of Eckhart Beer Company, a brewery specializing in European-style lagers; the location will feature a 100-seat taproom with a full kitchen and is slated to open this summer according to a Culinary Agents listing, and Eater has contacted the brewery for more information." - Luke Fortney

I can’t rave enough about this place. The beer, of course, is fantastic. I lived in northern Europe and I love true traditional German pilsners. Most craft brewers make something they call a pilsner, but many miss the mark, making a bland light beer. Eckhart has made possibly the best German pilsner I’ve had in the states. It’s got all the subtle flavors, high notes, crisp and sharpness, depth – truly delicious and very much the paradigm of the style. Even though Eckhart doesn’t specialize in IPAs, they also make a terrific straight-ahead old-school IPA, and when we were there, they had a smokey rye beer which was unlike any other beer I’d had, and was delicious. Bonus - the food here is actually really great. We had: brotzeit – which is a platter of meats and sauerkraut and pickled veggies, and was divine; kartoffelpuffer – which is basically the world’s greatest tater tots; a delicious cucumber salad; and the “deluxe” house-made potato chips and dip, with boquerones, pickled chilis and creme fraiche – all totally amazing. I also suggest that if you can score a booth, go for it. We were in a booth and it was really cozy and nice to be able to have a conversation without shouting. So happy to have the place nearby. Definitely one of my new favorites.

This place is amazing. A surprising and delicious menu. I tried a bunch of different dishes and loved every one. The Rillon is from another planet. The Radler was my favorite beer, although the Helles and Amber Lager are great. Nice atmosphere and upscale but unpretentious decor. Highly recommend.

Great new brewery in the area! Tried several beers and all were great! (Loved the Festbier especially). Food also looked amazing! Pro tip: try the Milko!

This new brewery is making some damn fine German and Czech styles, and really nice folks that work here. The food menu looks great, but I showed up after the kitchen closed. Easily top 5 brewery in NYC

Yes. Just yes. We were invited to a family and friends preview night at Eckhart and sat with a large enough group to try a little of everything on the menu. Highlights were mliko pours of the three traditional Czech lagers (gulp the foam), the rillon (crispy confit pork belly), the kartoffelpuffer (tallow fried potato latke), chicken liver mousse (with tart cherry jam and crackers made from spent grains), and the malt and marmite tart (made with spent grains from their German Helles.) Space has turned out beautiful, booths are super comfy. Large tables have wood benches, but had enough space for 7 of us.

Eckhart Beer is a great addition to the neighborhood. The first thing you notice, aside from the clean and well designed space, is the friendly and welcoming staff. This place is clearly run by some hospitality veterans. The food is worth the trip alone, but the beers are exceptional examples of Czech and German style beer. Clean, crips, easy drinking. Have a Mliko!

This place is an amazing new find. Both the food and beer are delicious. The staff were welcoming and friendly as well. In my two visits, I literally enjoyed every dish and beer I tried, which was most of them.

We enjoyed our beers and the delicious food! I’m an IPA person but I loved the Kolsch I had, it was super flavorful!
