6 Must-Try Foods in Asheville, North Carolina - AFAR

"A craft distillery that highlights Appalachian ingredients, this operation produces whiskey from locally grown corn and grain while also crafting distinctive spirits from foraged regional botanicals. Offerings extend beyond whiskey to include house-made amaro, an Appalachian-style fernet, and a nocino made from wild North Carolinian black walnuts, reflecting a strong sense of place and a focus on local, wild-sourced flavors." - Julie H. We just left Eda Rhyne Distilling Company and I couldn’t resist writing a review right away. This was actually the third stop of the day after a big lunch at Red Ginger, and even though I wasn’t planning on drinking much, the diverse selection here completely pulled me in. Iris was the highlight of our visit. She not only served us but also made us feel at home and gave us such a rich history of the distillery. The owners have a foraging background, and all of the herbs used come straight from North Carolina. Even the water here is top-notch. She shared that they had just recently reopened after Tropical Storm Helene last year, which made the experience feel even more special. I started with a flight plus whiskey and tried the Bitter Tooth (sweet and smooth), the Appalachian Fernet, and the Rustic Nocino. The whiskey rye was impressively smooth. I loved the flight so much that I had to order an Amaro Sour, which turned out to be an absolute delight. What’s really nice too is that this place is kid-friendly, so it feels very welcoming. Honestly, this is a spot everyone should check out while in Asheville. Stop in, take your time, and don’t leave without grabbing a bottle to bring home.

Google
Seven years since my last visit and this distillery has only gotten better with age. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the spirits they serve, they have refined the experience into an art. Will be back again... hopefully before another seven years slips through my fingers.

Terrific tasting room. And, although the Amari are the stars, they have a vodka that will win over vodka haters (like myself).

The atmosphere here is amazing. There was a live DJ, like an old school one. He had his crate of records and a turntable setup, and he played nothing but bangers. The liquor was also awesome. I had a 7 and 7 and their Appalachian Old Fashioned. Both were delectable. I’d highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Very unique place that makes drinks with their in house liquor. Reminds me of a speak easy. Very unique liquors from vodka whisky and gin. It a must stop just to see the stills in back and chat with the bartender

Yelp
Unique liquor crafted in house! The Amaro Obscura is my favorite. The vibe is super funky and the service is always great.

Yelp
This place is a gem. They specialize in botanical forward spirits, largely aperitif oriented (two amaros, fernet, nochino) with gin and a white whiskey. Their fernet, nochino and gin are all fantastic. Amaros were good as well but butter, especially the flora (tasted like malort IMO but I don't mean that in a bad way necessarily). The gin reminded me of many that are produced out in Colorado, must be something to the fresh mountain botanicals utilized. It is heavy on floral notes with a bit of spice-peppercorn comes through for me. Bottling is beautiful on the gon, others better than avg but not special. Cocktails good and vibes great for sipping after meal or meeting for cocktails.

Yelp
Adorable and delicious. The best service and ambiance. I don't know how I missed this place before. I expect it'll be busier and busier but it's the best right now. Choices, prices, staff. I'll see you there. Thanks Eda Rhyne. Great evening stop.

Yelp
Great little distillery with some unusual options, such as fernet. Great cocktails and conversation too!

Yelp
OK, the decor is really cool and the staff know their stuff. As we all know, Crispy is a huge fan of the Russian Originated vodka. I was however not a fan here in any of the spirits they had to offer. From Asian Rhubarb to Bush... well something that looked like a pine tree and unfortunately tasted of a Fraser Fur. Not that I want to deter anyone from checking local places out but I was not a fan.

Yelp
Wonderful vibe and great bartender! All the spirits were distinctive and unique. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My sweets and I went here for a tasting and I fell in love. We sampled the Appalachian Fernet and the Amaro Flora. I am always looking to try new fernet. Especially ones made locally. I sampled a couple while visiting San Francisco and none were as memorable as this one. Fernet-Branca I bid adieu and welcome a new. We picked up a bottle and went on our merry way. Cin Cin!

Yelp
This place was an awesome find on our jaunt around Asheville, bartender Anthony especially was kind and helpful. He introduced us to new and delicious drinks and gave us great tips on what else to see in the area. Recommend stopping in!

Yelp
Great out of the way place to sample a proudly produced small batch local spirit. Friendly staff coupled with tallented distillers is a winning combo!

Yelp
We heard of this place after seeing a bottle of their amaro in another bar earlier in the day and knew we had to track down the distillery. We sampled all three of their offerings, Appalachian Fernet, Amaro Flora, and Nocino. They were all really delicious and we ended up buying a bottle of each. Service was wonderful too, the guy was super friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
I highly recommend this unique Distillery. We ordered a flight. I'd never tasted anything quite like any of them. It took me by surprise - after taking a sip of the Fernet I said "what was that"? Then I had to taste again .. and again -- appreciating all the flavors! Of course we walked out having purchased a few bottles. The Fernet was exactly the after dinner/evening drink I was looking for! Mixing 1:1 with the Oscura ... made for another incredible sipping experience. Thanks to Tony who made the exploration and enjoyment of what Eda Rhyne has offered up to their customers one to remember. Cheers to your health!

Yelp
These are some absolutely fantastic Amaros. This is a tiny operation, but really worth a trip. Melvin gives a super warm welcome and adds to the experience. The Obscura and tonic is particularly delicious!

Yelp
Delicious amaros, cool vibe, and really friendly staff. This place is a hidden Jewel in Asheville and I especially love the cocktail with the cheerwine syrup
