Edelweiss European Bakery & Cafe

Classic German restaurant with snitzel and goulash. They were out of the sausage plates, so no brats the day we visited. Also they do not serve beer anymore. For desert , I had the rum bomb, but no sour cherry in it.

We were in Deerfield beach and I looked up german bakery near by and this little jewel came up. We decided to check it out and I'm very happy we did. We decided to have lunch there. We both ordered the Schnitzel with some sides and the food was absolutely delicious. Best Schnitzel I had since we been in the US, just perfect. Of course, we had to take home some pastries too and they are wonderful. So thank you to the team of the Edelweiss Bakery for making our day perfect ❤️

As a German, I would normally never go to a German café or restaurant abroad. But since it seems nearly impossible to find a nice, comfortable café in Florida, we stopped here. Finally, a decent coffee in a proper ceramic mug! The cakes and pastries are just like in Germany. Delicious, I highly recommend it. A minor drawback is the ambiance. It could be a bit cozier, but everything else makes up for it. I never want to drink coffee in a paper cup again. It's just bad manners.

I had the Kaese Spaetzle with a House Salad and LOVED it. They added bacon for me and brought bread for the table which made for a fantastic lunch. I also tried one of their jelly donuts which was better than anything I've gotten in a long time. Plenty of seating with very friendly staff. I would highly recommend checking this place out!

Very cool deli / eatery with a great selection treats and meals. We came in as a party of 8 which is a little larger of a group then I think they are used to. They handled it very well and all the food was great. With price and taste aligning this place hits the spot. The pictures say it all. You really can’t go wrong. The food is delicious but every meal could really be a pastry they make.

Such a lovely spot. The woman working is lovely, kind and helpful. The bread couldn’t be more fresh and enjoyable. I enjoyed my latte and baked goods and my husband enjoyed the spaetzle and schnitzel. A one of a kind stop if you’re in the area.

Cute little place with real German food. I wanted best sausages and very cold beer. I got it in a hot summer day. That was a gem of my day and they brought food fast and owner was super friendly. By the way, they speak russian and bake bread. Can’t believe I finished it all! Great sauerkraut. But it was tasty and I was so hungry after home inspection. They deliver bread and they service German events and parties. I’m so happy now we’ll fed can run to my next showing! Thank you.

We found this Gem while visiting Pompano Beach . We came in for lunch - so glad we did ! Super friendly staff . Our lunch start with basket of variety of homemade bread and butter. Yum !!!!! My husband ordered Schnitzel with Bratkartoffeln- so good ! I had Bratwurst with Sauerkraut- love it ! Food was fresh prepared and piping hot! We took our dessert with us - Apfelstrudel and Schwarzwälder Schnitte . We also bought bread- and the Ladies cut it for us - just like in real bakery in Europe.

A great way to indulge in a little holiday cheer is to enjoy a coffee and European pastry. I was always curious about this charming German bakery on Commercial Boulevard and today I finally stopped in today to check it out. Edelweiss European Bakery has been in business since 1997 under the ownership of master baker, Wilfried Kohler. Edelweiss European Bakery is both a German bakery and cafe. On the left side is a bakery selling freshly baked pastries, cake, half and whole loves of bread, rolls, pretzels, sandwiches, European style coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. German pastries are lighter and less sweet than their American counterparts and all of the bakery items are made with high quality ingredients and non-GMO flour. There are no preservatives, artificial flavoring, or artificial color in the artisan baked goods. The bakery also sells German cheese, meat, and imported grocery items. On the right side is the charming cafe. The menu features continental breakfast dishes, soup, salads, entrees, sandwiches, and specials of the day. They even have vegan options. Whether you door dash, take out, dine out, or just grab a hot drink and pastry, you are sure to enjoy your visit to this Bavarian gem on Commercial Boulevard.

BRETZEL OR SCHNITZEL ? The front of the bakery screams old town Europe and looked relaxing and inviting. Upon walking inside it was oddly very silent and a few tables occupied by customers quietly eating. No greeting by anyone as I impatiently waited by the large deli and pastry display case. A woman finally appeared and since it was already after 2pm I asked her if the Bretzel (its a German pretzel) was made fresh? She replied, "Everything is made fresh each morning" - seemed slightly annoyed by my reasonable question. I paid the lady for the amazing smelling giant Bretzel and quickly left to feed my almost beastlike hunger. All my excitement evaporated at first bite. Surprisingly, the Bretzel was rock hard and I was overcome with sorrow, disappointment and still hungry. I immediately thought back of the woman telling me that the Bretzel was fresh. So unless the German Bretzel is supposed to be rock hard, then it was NOT fresh. Aside from the Bretzel, the inside decor was a really cool authentic old German theme. The big stainless steel deli meat slicer on the counter with plenty of uncut deli meats in the display case ready for slicing. They offer a very good selection of cakes, cookies and chocolates. Most of the sandwiches, including schnitzel of course, are superbly priced under $13.00. The menu offers a few vegan options like plant based burgers, vegan sausage, veggie roll and a veggie sandwich all under $12.50. Based on the circumstances during this short visit a three star rating is warranted.

Best multi grain bread: vegan friendly/100% sourdough/ 100% handcrafted/ Dairy and egg free/ non GMO flour. Had their coffee cake also and it was fabulous.

Take all the bad reviews and throw them in the garbage! This place is a GEM and we are honestly LUCKY to have this place available to us with such low prices! I ordered the laberkase. It comes with amazing bread slices, a side so I got the Spatzel. All of that for $10!! It's 2024 and these awesome folks are serving up incredible good authentic German food at unbelievable prices. When I was there the waitress was extremely friendly. Don't expect to go to a German restaurant with German employees and think they will roll out a red carpet for you.... Guys please give me a break! I bought a bunch of stuff to go because I truly miss eating good quality German food like I used to eat in Munich. Highly highly recommended I cannot recommend this place enough!

We had a good lunch here the other day. I've been by this place many, many times, but had no idea they had a cafe where they served breakfast and lunch. I always thought it was just a bakery. Everything wasn't perfect, but most were not in their control e.g. the complaining woman who brought her dog that peed on the floor; the problem with the bathrooms; etc. These were minor quibbles as we were not in a hurry. I ordered their schnitzel for my entree which came with one side. The thinly pounded and breaded pork cutlet was large -- it covered the plate -- and was perfectly cooked. I'm a "dough" fan so I also liked my side of spaetzl although I added butter. The only thing that would have made both better would have been some brown gravy. I probably should have asked if they had some. Meanwhile, I took half of my meal home and had it for dinner. My husband had their German sausages entree. They have 4 kinds and you can choose two of them. He got their bratwurst and knockwurst along with a side of sauerkraut. The sausages were scored on their sides and browned. He, too, took some of his lunch home for another meal. To start, we were given a basket of bread and butter. It had both rye and sunflower bread slices in the basket. We wound up eating much more bread than usual -- so good. We liked the sunflower bread enough to buy a loaf to take home. They also had a lot of interesting pastries in their bakery case. Although they were appealing, we were just too full to enjoy them. In addition to other traditional German dishes, they have salads, soups, and sandwiches. They serve a limited breakfast menu until 11 am with an extra fee if you order breakfast after that time. So nice to finally experience their cafe. Now we have another different option for lunch when in this area of Fort Lauderdale.

Wunderbar! Wonderful! Great authentic German food and wonderful staff. I grew up in Germany and all my family is still there. Sadly I haven't been there in many years and miss the food. But wow they made up for it at lunch today. I saw the schnitzel and asked the waitress if they could do jagerschnitzel and she said she could do it and I was not disappointed. Tasted just like what Oma used to make. You guys made me so happy today and brought back a lot of memories. I'm down in Miami and will be back soon I'm sure. Generally, I'm not one to leave reviews but I've enjoyed this restaurant over the years so many times that I felt I had to leave my reflections. First and foremost. The food is always spectacular. It was my dining experience today that was so awful. One of the things I particularly like about this restaurant is that it is very clean so they are only open for breakfast and lunch until 3 PM. I've walked in before around 230 and got some strange vibes about staying for lunch, so I made sure to come at 2 PM today. Around 230 as I was halfway through my lunch, most of the other patrons had left and the waitress started spraying. I think Windex with Febreze on the tables. I mean the scent was so strong it overpowered my palate and totally ruined my experience eating my lunch. What was the most frustrating thing was when I asked the waitress to please stop doing that until I was done instead of apologizing she said "what windex?" She seemed completely frustrated that she had to stop cleaning. Now I understand they're closing at 3 PM can't they start shutting down after that if they're patrons still in the dining room? It's very unpleasant to have someone cleaning up around you while you're still dining. Or they can close at 2:30, if they're in such a rush to be out by 3:00. Only saw waitress twice (order& pay) overall yuck!

Just moved to Fort Lauderdale and stumbled across this little bakery. Inside there's a deli counter and restaurant that doesn't make it clear where to order if you are dining in. We went to the counter and spoke to an employee about ordering breakfast. We asked the woman if she spoke German (friend is native German) and she said no-instead of asking us if she could help us in English she pointed to a co-worker and said she didn't speak German but her co-worker did. When her co-worker asked if she could help us she said no that we only wanted to speak in German (never said that)! We ended up ordering at the counter when we could've been directed to take a seat and they would taken our order at the table. Food was actually good and plenty. Customer service was terrible here though and the lack of simple common courtesy like saying "good morning" to your customers and perhaps not having an attitude would go a long way. Would not recommend!

Doin a little German today w les. Les said, goulash was bland, well German food IS bland! Neat, tidy and clean welcoming German restaurant . Nice lady servers, no ice for soft drinks ? but drinks were cold. Les got a lg house salad w ham, turkey and Swiss, looked nice but he took home he was full. I ordered a German liverwurst sandwich on a baguette. Bread was too big and very stingy on the liverwurst, and no sides, not even a bag of chips! Onto the dessert case!!! WOW, everything homemade and looked scrumptious! I had the napoleon, which was very yummy. It was a pleasant lunch. I'd go back for dessert!

Lunch today was Brats with home fries . The meal was excellent but the German fried potatoes were amazing. Never had better. I asked for ketchup but did not need them as there was so much flavor in those potatoes. They also give you amazing bread! My only complaint was that they don't serve water or ice. You have to buy the water. I have never been in a restaurant where they don't offer water. However, the bread made of for it.

We loved this little German place. People spoke German and the food was delicious. Great schnitzel. No ice available in water -- just like Europe. Clean, cute and a plethora of German items in deli. Had the Bienenstich: good but not great. We will be back.

I am a German citizen and since we are visiting Florida we had to stop by this amazing restaurant.. food is authentic, so delicious.. the bread , and pastries are fresh, it feels just like home . we brought the dog and had lunch out side .. the staff brought him water and some German lunch meat . I would highly recommend this place .. Prost !!!

I came in yesterday for a bakery snack. I got the apple crumb cake and it was pretty good. We decided to come back today for lunch. We didn't stay after being told they don't serve tap water. I guess I've never heard of a place, especially a small non expensive restaurant, not serving tap water. I didn't want to purchase a bottle of water, not because I'm cheap but because of the point that I think it's ridiculous. (My opinion) We left. I'm not sure how the lunch is but if you want a bakery item, I'm sure you'll be satisfied. The apple crumb had a nice topping with an apple and raisin mix.

Authentic German food. Their Black Forest, Tiramisu and other German pastries are awesome. Friendly and accommodating service. I am vegetarian and still found options to eat there. Their Spatzle is a good veggie option. They have a few vegan options as well.

Great pastries, desserts and sandwiches that we have enjoyed many times! Love the food is fresh, light and not processed.

My partner and I were disappointed in the poppy seed cake and the country bread (sourdough rye). I couldn't really taste any rye flavor. The sourdough flavor over took any rye flavor. The poppy seed cake was a little dry til I got to the middle. My partner said it tasted like bug spray. I was disappointed that they only sold whole poppy seed cake. When I hesitated the person helping us said it's only $14. Again I hesitated but went ahead and bought it. I failed to notice that there weren't many reviews about the pastries and bread. Most of the 4&5 star reviews are about the cooked meals they serve. If I'm ever back in Ft Lauderdale I may give Edelweiss another try for a hot meal. But there are too many bakeries to buy baked goods from them.

Located fairly close to the beach is this delightful German bakery. Most of the staff ( well two out of three on that day) are German. Since we had dogs with us, we sat outside, and immediately the owner brought two bowls of water and a large plate of cut up meatballs for them even before we had ordered anything! The selection of food and pastries is pretty good. The leek and corn soup was Excellent, as was the selection of fresh crusty bread. The two pastries we had were also very fresh and delectable. I also got some bread rolls to go... which were eaten later that day, and were also obviously freshly baked. I did try one of the Dunkel beers which are not easy to find...and was instantly reminded how far ahead German beer is compared to pretty much all American beer Although I live 35 miles from this place I would readily make the round trip to return to this place. Limited free parking is available...most of the parking spots are metered. I found the prices very reasonable given the high quality of the food.

Sells as strudel an apple concoction that is not even close to a strudel. Very dishonest. Do not recommend

Popular home german food! Excellent pastries! Leberkasen with home fries is very tasteful! Schnitzel also very good! Salads are fresh and crispy! Breakfast are very good and you feel you're in Germany! Very good coffee! Service is good also! We go frequently!

I am sorry sir, we do not provide water. You must buy it when dining with us. WHAT? For tap water I asked, not bottled or sparkling. Yes, we don't serve free tap water!

Delicious, affordable, busy af, good quality sweet treats. This place is extremely busy, but the cakes are worth it and not expensive. Definitely recommend, give it a try. Cheesecake was great!

Even the free coffee was delicious! Such a nice place. Actual German people eating at and running this lovely bakery. The schnitzel sandwich was delicious and fresh. The bread was just amazing! I got the cheesecake and and elephant ear for myself and a chocolate something for my husband. Haven't tried the chocolate thing, but both the cheesecake and elephant ear were fresh with the perfect amount of sugar (not too much!)

Evevery time I come to the Florida I make sure to come here for lunch or breakfast. The best food, the tastiest and freshest bread, they also have the most delicious donuts with raspberry filling. The best morning is when you get to this place to drink aromatic coffee with a freshly baked donut, or if you are on a diet, they will make you an omelet, but they will definitely bring you fresh bread and butter, which is so hard to resist. Clean, which is very important for me and my family. And very friendly staff. Visiting this "warm" place, is becoming a good tradition in my family.

Edelweiss is an adorable German-style bakery with an attached cafe. I imagine that there is usually a line or small crowd on weekend mornings, as there was this past Saturday. I highly recommend the pretzels, but as other reviewers noted, it does seem like they sell out! I also enjoyed a hazelnut chocolate cookie, which was literally dozens of hazelnuts toasted and coated in a thin layer of chocolate. The chocolate croissant, unfortunately, was not my favorite--a little dry snd not as flavorful as ones at traditional French bakeries. There are plenty of other menu items I'd like to try, so I will definitely be back soon!

Great place with fantastic food and service, try it out you won't be sorry! Baked goods are amazing.

We finally ordered our favorite bread from them! Although delivery is a pricy flat fee, it is fast, overnight, and worth it as it will take more to drive up to the bakery for me! Keep in mind that certain items are not baked in the quantities that you want! So order well before 3pm so they can bake it first thing in the morning, pack, and ship! Thanks for the suggestion not to slice bread! We will not request that next time!

Good food a little over priced and to pay parking meters is ridiculous! There are plenty of bakeries in Fort Lauderdale. Keep your options open.

This bakery makes exceptionally good bread! As someone who LOVES bread (I even travel for it!) and knows a thing or two about bread-making I can tell the difference between bread that has been made in a traditional, slow way versus the bread found in regular grocery stores. Not only does it have a deep flavor and an amazing light texture, but the ingredients they use are all natural and simple, with nothing that a person from a century ago wouldn't recognize. I personally love the Double Crust and Mountain loaves. So good, I eat them on their own as a snack :) The pretzels are delicious as well!

Little bit of Southern Germany in Pompano Beach, Fla. Family run business - like to support that! We went for breakfast. Son and husband had liverwurst on a roll and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich (HUGE!) Per my German lineage hubby: Hard rolls were FRESH. Liverwurst was good quality. Good ("sweeter") European mustard. Just what I hoped for. Everything looked delish. Bakery items, breads, pretzels, and desserts. You can also do some traditional European shopping. Everything from lard, sardine filets, to mustard, pickles, and sweets. (If you are looking for it, they have it.) We would go again.

Staff is always lovely and pleasant. A nice, reliable offering of German and Polish savories, breads, and sweets baked/made daily as well as a nice simple lunch and breakfast menu. Pricing is very reasonable and there's ample parking.

I can't tell you enough how delicious the apple crumb cake is here: totally blown away by the fresh taste of the apples, I wish they had this in Austin, so special. They also have beyond meat burgers for vegans. Great options, this is a must stop when in the area!

I know I might take some flak on this and that I shouldn't generalize or stereotype, but Germans seem to have traditionally been pretty darn good at three things: Beer, Sausages, and Bread. So, I'm rather bias when selecting my beers, sausages and breads but having such choices when it comes to foods of ethnic or cultural diversity is one of things that, to me, makes America so great. There isn't another country in the world as diverse or offers so much. Edelweiss is more than just a bakery. It's a small market place and a café as well. They have all sorts of breads, some of them a Kassler, being a sourdough, a sour rye, multigrain, sunflower, dark cracked rye, rolls such a sesame, poppy and caraway, brezeles, pastries of all sorts, cakes and cookies. Then on their shelf section, mustards, sauce mixes, pickles and vinegars, and in their refrigerated section sausages, meats and jarred herrings amongst a number of other items. Edelweiss is spotlessly clean, the staff friendly and helpful and the café section where you can eat in, comfortable with a pleasant décor. Some of the hits of Edelweiss are their scrambled egg breakfasts, their apple strudel, pretzels, and Black Forest Cake.

I am from New Jersey but visit this little Gem each time I go to Fort Lauderdale. It is immaculate the servers are wonderful and the food is just amazing. I always go for the basics... breakfast food eggs and bacon as it reminds me of years gone by when my dad would cook the eggs in the bacon grease. Probably not good for my heart but definitely good for my soul. Coffee is amazing!! I have no idea what they do to it but it is oh so rich and wonderful Best cup of coffee I have ever had...seriously! You can sit at one of their oh so clean tables or sit outside and get service. They also sell pastries to go, but I was always on the run so cannot review. I'm sure they are wonderful. Do not miss this place for breakfast or brunch on your visit to Fort Lauderdale!

Order Ur pretzel because they sell out. They offered to reserve us one for pickup tomorrow. While there today I bought a slice of the Sacher Torte. It was excellent. It tasted fresh and moist. It had a layer of chocolate in the middle and was covered in the chocolate frosting. They are creative and put an "S"on the top of the slice. It cost $2.75. The staff was friendly and sounded German. Parking: Some spots are metered and some are not.

Truly disappointing! Can not find a real old fashioned bakery anymore! This place is not a real bakery, it's more of limited service restaurant! I tried their pretzel as I love a good pretzel! This place was one of the worst pretzel I ever had! Blech!

Blown away! This European bakery was phenomenal. I needed something to eat and stopped by to grab a veggie sandwich and lentil soup with my mother to split. The veggies were so fresh you could tell they 100 percent cut them for my sandwich to order. Bell pepper, cucumbers, tomato, lettuce and even radish! The bread was perfectly freshly baked! Crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The lentil soup was hands down the BEST lentil soup I've ever had in my life. So flavorful and came with fresh bread for dipping. We splurged and got some cookies! A half pound! Each cookie was so different from the next and you could tell was made with so much love and culture and history. Please do not miss this amazing place!

Been wanting to check this place out for awhile and we ended up with a Groupon to try it. We went on a Saturday and they were busy so we decided to order from the counter and sit down. They were out of two of the items I tried to order so just settled for prosciutto on baguette that had lettuce tomato and I added cheese to it. We also tried the berry cheesecake. The service was slow and the food mediocre. I ordered coffee and saw it just sit there under the machine therefore we got our check and just left. Nothing about this place wants me to go back again considering there are plenty of other restaurants in the area

What a cute shop. Veronica was super helpful and nice. I bought a baguette, a sourdough loaf, and 2 pastries. I would skip the sourdough next time, but everything else was great. I think prices were reasonable for fresh baked goods.

I was on my way to a NY style deli on the same road for matzo soup and turned into the wrong plaza. Glad I did. The quite shop/deli is tucked into strip mall with ample parking. They offer a variety of deli meats, European sausages, breads, pastries, and other goodies. I ordered the German dumpling soup that is made with ground veal and has caramelized onions in a flavorful chicken broth. All of the soups include complimentary bread. I'm definitely going back to try the other soups. Also ordered a smoked turkey and cheese sandwich for dinner with all the works. They use a flat regular brown bread that I am every excited to try. My total came in under $20 and this includes a family sized apple drink

Edelweiss is a nice German centered bakery that offers both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is served until 11 and then expect lunch up until 3-4pm. They offer a bakery and a deli section with European food products. I really enjoyed their Bavarian creme cake. The avocado toast which is not on the menu was extremely good. Service was friendly and I had no issues at all. Portions run on the larger side of things. They do offer some canned/boxed food products such as jellies, pickles, candies, etc. Seating indoors or out and there is usually plenty of parking. If you are close to this area, or even if you are not, it's worth the effort to stop by and treat yourself.

The cheesecake and an assortment of cookies I purchased for my wife and I were made with so much sugar!! we couldn't even eat them. They poured a ton of sugar, which is not healthy. Stevia would be a healthy natural substitute and would be edible indeed. Also, the woman behind the counter did not smile at all, was not pleasant to us nor friendly in any way. Very cold, like a dead stick. We did not feel welcome and will never come back.

Amazing sourdough. Seriously some of the best I've ever had. And the woman helping me check out saw me eyeing the rye and other breads and gave me like 5 complimentary slices. So good!! And try the after meal German digestives - woah.

Edelweiss Bakery is a gem of a cafe! Breakfast and lunch menu items are delicious and well presented by a friendly staff. The German pastries and bread are fantastic and affordably priced. You can dine in or take items to go! Be sure to add Edelweiss Bakery to your "must go" breakfast list--- you won't regret it!

Enjoyed lunch at Edelweiss. We had sauerkraut and wursts with beer and potato salad. Everything was as we hoped and the service was excellent. We plan to return soon. A special treat is the pastry which we ate and purchased extra for later. Highly recommend.
