Google
First time coming to Edgewater tacos and I have to say we were thoroughly impressed! We got 2 tacos, the al pastor burrito, an empanada and the Mexican style corn! Everything was absolutely delicious. Street food style and a good spot to stop for a quick lunch!

Lateaka C.

Google
I went to Edgewater tacos today and when I tell you the food is amazing. It really touched my soul I ordered 5. Tacos and an order of fires I was in disbelief at all the flavors and freshness. I've had great taco but they are top tier. After eating i had to call to let them know how wonderful their food was/is. Don't miss out on the love they put into their food yall.

Kelsey M.

Google
Always delicious. Green salsa is amazing. Been coming here for years. The new slushies are perfect on a hot day. Highly recommend stopping by. Plus the owner is wonderful.

Google
This is a great, super creative joint in Edgewater. Folks love it! You order at a window from a surprisingly extensive menu, and they quickly prepare it and bring it to you through the same window. There are a couple tables on the sidewalk during warm months. Otherwise, it's strictly take out. The food is fantastic, and the people who take your order are extremely nice and accommodating. It's a big reason I keep going back.

Google
Edgewater Tacos is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Patty and Joe is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Amazing fish tacos. Must come back. 10/10.

Melissa L.

Google
Food is excellent and service and friendliness is top-notch! I only wish I had discovered them sooner, and that they were 1/2 mile closer to me, but I’m happy to make the walk to support this wonderful local family-owned business. My favorite is the taco salad, but I have liked everything I have tried!

Google
Edgewater Tacos serves great food and the family that owns it is terrific! I can confidently say as a first generation Mexican-American that their food is authentic for their region and it’s delicious! I eat there once a week and I’m always completely satisfied with my meal. You’ll be very happy Ordering from Edgewater Tacos.

Janet P.

Google
I love having this spot in my neighbor hood and walking over every week or so for lunch. The best fish tacos I've ever had, hands down. I've tried a lot of other things on the menu and always come back to them. I also love the elotes with flaming hot cheetos on top, the horchata, the quesadillas, and the nachos. I've never had anything here I didn't like. And I stockpile their green salsa. Support our great family-owned small businesses!

Yelp
Our dinner tonight was very good from Edgewater Tacos! We took the red line, got off at Bryn Mawr and walked over. Waited about 10 min after placing our order. Staff was SO KIND and easy to chat with. We got the taco dinners. The Al pastor was maybe my favorite in the city. Chips and guac were plentiful and delicious. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
Support your local businesses! I ordered a steak mole enchilada dinner and not only was it large (great value), it was delicious. Be prepared to wait a few minutes, but know that it's all because the food is made FRESH! Take out/ outdoor seating.

Yelp
Great customer service and amazing food. It reminds me of the tacos that I would get in Mexico. The flavors are really authentic.
google avatar

Yelp
Vegan Gem in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. Excellent vegan tacos. Some very interesting flavors. The tacos have amazing variances in texture and a variety of flavors in a bite sweet, sour, tangy and just a little bit of heat. I can't wait to try more options!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food all around been ordering for years. But they went above and beyond when they left some items out of my pickup order. Replacements delivered to my house quickly with extra and dessert added on for free. That's just top notch service for a mistake. Their salsa verde is my favorite ever.

Yelp
I leave here wishing two things: 1. That it wasn't a 90° day. Great beach weather, but hot fresh tacos not so much! I was hungry, okay? The specifics are unimportant. 2. That the Pico de Gallo was a little less confusing. Well, to be honest, it's not so much confusing as just made in a food processor. Same ingredients going the same place, more a texture thing than anything. The tacos themselves were done simply, but done well. Onion, cilantro, protein. Everything is well balanced and meat is not skimped on. The Chorizo had a pleasant bite/kick to it. The Al Pastor wasn't groundbreaking, but was cooked well, and the bits of pineapple were appreciated. While there was what I assume to be a Jalapeño-based hot sauce on the side, it wasn't enough to make the tacos next-level. It added a little moisture and acid, but what was really needed was fat. A little crema would've worked wonders. Finally, limited seating is available outdoors only, and it seems much more grab and go than anything else. Where it comes to the service, I found it solid and appropriately fast. Also, while I got the flour I would've requested - would have been nice if I was asked. Thus, while I don't see myself giving out awards for best taco, and I do not see it as a destination, it is a fine option for a quick grab and go lunch.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I threw a housewarming party and decided on Edgewater Tacos for the food. When we called the order a taco package, they were extremely accommodating when it came to the number of tacos we wanted and how we wanted the meats split. They were also extremely flexible with the timing of our pick up. When we went to get everything, they had separated all toppings, included some fresh chips, tubs of salsas and pico, and clearly labeled everything as well as providing a crate to carry everything. They could not have been sweeter or more helpful and the food was amazing! They'll always have a place in our hearts for making everything so easy for us while also being our go-to in the neighborhood for Mexican food. Thank you to everyone who works there!

Yelp
Make sure you always check your order before you leave from this restaurant twice i have ordered something i did not receive, this last time when i called to let them know i did not received the correct item a young lady kept telling me she packed the bag her self and knows that its in there when i have the bag in front of me and it was not in the bag in fact other wise i wouldn't have called i havr decided i no longer will be going to this restaurant . The 1st time it happened the owner was so nice about it and gave me the correct item but this time idk what the employee name was but she was very rude there for i will take my money else where . I paid 31$ and you think i would be lying about not receiving a 6.99 and 1.79 item that's ridiculous ! I was really happy to discover this restaurant but as of now i no longer will get food from here !

Brianna R.

Yelp
Great go to spot in the neighborhood. Food is always flavorful. And the staff is always friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is really good here, and just about everything I've tried here has been pretty decent. They even have interesting menu items you wouldn't expect, like Birria Ramen. I personally do REALLY wish they would bring back having an indoor dining area, again. Nearly every other place I recall that initially held back on bringing back indoor dining after the pandemic has brought that back, including Bistro 6050. I know in warmer months they do set up outdoor seating on the sidewalk, but I really wish they would have a small dining area again.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
Used take out so I cannot opine on anything other than the tacos asada I ordered. The tacos were loaded and were well done (ample and tasty). Would have liked bigger tacos as I ended up with what I would call taquitos (unsure if that is how they are advertised and sold). I will return when the weather turns warmer to sample other fare.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Tacos are amazing,I haven't tried anything else but I love the small tacos definitely bite size & a must try the fish tacos is some special sauce that goes well with them that makes them tasty.. Every time I go to order the service is always great, friendly lady that takes the orders..The place is very small but nice & clean..The menu is over the top so much too choose from this is my favorite spot on the North side of town..Check it out if you haven't been there you want be disappointed..
google avatar

Jake D.

Yelp
Maybe I'm just having trouble adjusting to inflation, but $4-5 for a basic 3 bite taco is too high. Maybe from a fancy Mexican place, but not from a walk up no restroom place. Won't be coming back.
google avatar

Meghan R.

Yelp
Nothing to write home about. The good: the tortillas they use for the burritos are tasty and the beans inside are really good. We also enjoyed the salsa verde. The burritos are generously filled, and I would say they were worth the $10 if it weren't for the meat. Both the al pastor and carne were bland. I was actually kind of blown away by how flavorless and overcooked the carne was. Disappointed after reading all the other reviews.

Yelp
We live around the corner from Edgewater Tacos and finally got around to trying them out. They have a huge variety of food but the menu is organized in a kind of confusing way (also the menu on their website is absolutely illegible). I love how many vegetarian options they have. We got a feast: chips and guac, elote in a cup, a veg burrito for me, and some veg tacos for my partner. The food was ready quickly. We would have loved to eat there, but it was too cold for the cafe chairs on the sidewalk. I enjoyed my burrito, although some of the tortilla was crunchier/thick in unexpected places. I think in how they folded/griddled it? We loved the guac, I'd get a bucket of it next time. I also enjoyed the elote in a cup which is AS ADVERTISED: it's a huge soup takeout cup full of elote! It was far more than I expected, which was a delight and a challenge. My partner thought his tacos were just ok. I'll definitely be back as the optinos are unbeatable!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Edgewater Tacos consistently delivers amazing food with a side of happiness. Every single thing we have ordered has been delicious. I can't pick just one favorite thing on the menu so I'll just mention how delicious her fried plantains, fish tacos, homemade chips and guac and vegan tortilla soup are. We go all the time. Enjoy!
google avatar

Alyette A.

Yelp
The closest thing to authentic street style tacos here in the city (yes they are smaller). Being from San Diego (the best tacos besides Mexico), I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have found this place. Their marination is so close to what I'd find back home. And their fish taco is practically identical to a Baja fish taco.

Yelp
We have been eating at Edgewater Taco since they've been in the neighborhood at least once a week...highly recommend the veggie burrito suizo.

Yelp
Quick update! Still loving this little place, years after it opened. Believe the hype, it's that simple. Everything here is DELICIOUS and prepared with love, woman- owned, from family recipes. Love the taco window that opens onto the street. Verily, we are going here TODAY. Saturday was made for TACOS. A gem in beautiful Edgewater Beach. GO HERE!

Yelp
Winner winner chicken dinner! Edgewater tacos is very much the best I've had outside of LA. Totally righteous, unpretentious and a value deal. Too many places give you half the flavor, half the quality, and half the love for far more money. Edgewater is worth every cent. As they say, you get what you pay for and at Edgewater Tacos you get a mouth watering money's worth. It's a simple walk up on Broadway. I went at what I thought would be a down time but there were still several people waiting in line for orders. They have a decent size menu and it's all takeout so I could only choose a few items as I was eating lunch in my car on the lakefront. I went with two carnitas tacos which were chock full of excellent of tender carnitas reminiscent of my favorite place in Venice Beach CA. Edgewater Tacos carnitas we're full of flavor and stuffed into a double soft shell tortilla. You could taste the love put into this meat. Add a little cilantro and onion and a side of green salsa that is totally homemade and you got the real deal. The salsa verde is pretty bomb. It's hard to find good salsa but I'm pretty sure theirs is one of if not the most flavorful I've ever had. I'm looking forward to trying the other taco fillings asap. I then did the spicy Chicken Pablano soup. WOW what an excellent soup on a chilly fall day out on the lakefront. Even in the chill I busted a little sweat from the flavorful spice. It's creamy and filled with corn, black beans, chicken and cooked to perfection. This was an awesome meal. I need to try their other soups such as the birria soon, sheeeet maybe even today!! Service is really friendly and the young girl behind the counter was so great and even bragged on their recent best taco in America status. I just read about it. Why not brag on it if it's true and you know what, it likely is! At very least it's the best in Chicago. That's saying something. She even gave me the low down on their other offerings. She was very knowledgeable on their menu. Go go go get there it's worth the short wait in line.

Happy Time Harry X.

Yelp
Seriously delicious ! Steak tacos are made with arracherra and the food quality is delicious . Highly recommended. One the best in the city.

David M.

Yelp
Service was amazing. Carnitas are my favorite. Theyre steak was also really good. I love that they dont give you one sauce for 3 tacos like most places do.

Victoria R.

Yelp
Yeah.....won't be back. Over cooked tamale (by a lot)--good flavor but overcooked. My order of steak tacos was absolutely without a doubt spoiled meat the kitchen decided to cook anyway. The minute I opened up the package I got an overwhelming rancid smell. I tasted it because I thought maybe it was just me smelling something off elsewhere--Ialmost threw up. Thank goodness for guac otherwise I'd have no dinner. Note guys: I get saving money, but this is dangerous. You could put many of your customers in the hospital this way.
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
So sweet!!! Best food ever. Clean and good hearted people. Thank you for taking care me today
google avatar

Kay

Yelp
lowkey these are the best tacos in the city, every single one of them. you genuinely cannot go wrong
google avatar

Keisha M.

Yelp
I have to give it 5 stars because of how quick, fresh and conveinant it was. I came for tacos after laying out at the beach and the cashier was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and suggested things that aligned with what I loved. I ordered the Birria ramen taco combo thing, it was very unique. I would say definitely try it at least once probably in the fall or winter. Warning: It is very greasy. The steak quesadilla is as well as the Horchata. I like that they offered outdoor seating as well. Overall I will definitely be back, but I want to try so many different things on the menu! The ambiance is a covered walk up taco stand with chairs and tables outside.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
Taco places are everywhere and are the equivalent of a hamburger. A taco is simple with simple ingredients. In Edgewater one of our favorites is Edgewater Taco craftily hidden on the west side of Broadway. Their menu has everything- and even a spicy Asian soup with Mexican flair. This place has a walk up window with efficient service. If you eat there, you will eat at a few tables outside.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
$25 for one tiny taco, tiny burrito & lackluster tostada? The ingredients were few & scarce & the burrito had no crema inside. The price for the small portion sizes are ridiculous. There are plenty of other fantastic Mexican restaurants nearby to get a better bang for your buck, sorry but I will not be returning to Edgewater Tacos. PS - they closed down their dining room & are carryout only - another reason why they don't have to skimp on ingredients/portions.

Bob G.

Yelp
This place is great. I wish they were open on Sunday for pickups. Street corn and tacos are highlighted.
google avatar

Thomas D.

Yelp
Ok. This is totally worth the hype. I've heard they were the best tacos on the north side and they did not disappoint. Go. You're welcome.
google avatar

Jalen S.

Yelp
One bite review... stop wasting time... go now. YUM I just moved to Chicago from Cincinnati and this spot is next to my girlfriends work... I'll be coming to meet her often
google avatar

Anthony P.

Yelp
We just moved closer to Edgewater Tacos and my taste buds couldn't be happier. The people are great and the food is excellent. I consistently crave the sopes dinner and my husband always orders flautas. We've had all of the meat options our favorites are the al pastor and carnitas. Don't forget to ask about their specials if you call in an order or go in-person! One note to the owners, please fix the menu on your website! It's very difficult to read and we aren't able to open it to make it larger because of your settings.
google avatar

Norman M.

Yelp
I had 2 steak tacos. They were of nice size and had great taste. It will be my go to place on the north side. I tried their chicken soup. It's as good as it get. There is no inside seating; I ate at the outside tables. My other go to place for Mexican food is Taqueria Guadulajara in Madison, Wi.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Food is amazing!! These are in my opinion the best tacos in the neighborhood. Service is always friendly and the owner is very nice. Such a delicious and expansive menu! Prices, however, have gotten out of control. Sadly, it looks like this delicious neighborhood taco joint is now out of my tax bracket. $28 for this fish taco plate for one person and a horchata. No extra avocado or anything like that and an extra charge for onions and cilantro with your taco- odd? I know, inflation. Best of luck edgewater tacos.

Schuyler S.

Yelp
The chorizo breakfast burrito was stellar- each bite had so much flavor and the tortilla was probably the best one I've had. I don't make reviews on yelp, but this was seriously a great way to start the day.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Always solid tacos here and my favorite are the fried cod tacos. Service from the window is fast but locking the dining room nowadays seems unnecessary and a real miss. I used to love taking my grandkids in and they could watch the meats cooking on the stove.
google avatar

Brie G.

Yelp
Wasted my money. If you like flavor, this is not the place. It actually use to be much better over a year ago. Just like most ethnic resturants up north, they lack authentic taste because the yt ppl don't know any better. I lived on the east and west coast prior to here and i absolutely know better. Chicken tacos and salad was soggy & literally had no taste/flavor. For $18. The taco salad had chicken, lettuce and guacamole. No beans, rice or cilantro or onion. Again the chicken had NO flavor & was soggy. Don't even get me started with the Elote corn. I've had better from the frozen section in grocery stores Will never come back here to order lunch/dinner again. Unfortunately I'll be going to the west/south side to continue getting my authentic flavorful Mexicanfood because up north just continues to disappoint. As much money that's up here you would think the food is top tier right?! The churro was good though, $8 for two!
google avatar

Silas S.

Yelp
Best Mexican I've had in Chicago. Carne Asada tacos always fill me up and are loaded with steak. Service is quick, outdoor seating only. Food is well priced and definitely worth the visit.
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
Really good food. I'll keep coming back here. The carne asada burrito is primo. My wife gets the fish tacos and loves them. I *LOOOOVE* the homemade salsa! Gamy get enough of it They need to fix the menu on their website. The PDF has restrictions on it so you can't view the menu.
google avatar

Jeremy G.

Yelp
The fajitas were very tasty and tender. The walk up window service is fast. There is no indoor dining area for this restaurant.
google avatar

Sean D.

Yelp
This place is a couple blocks from where I live and it is so very good. Everything I have tried thus far has been A grade and fantastic. Served neat and prepared fresh everyday. I highly recommend if you like quality Mexican food for a decent price. Perfect takeout for a movie night in or even vibing with the fam/buds. Fish Tacos are FIRE. Chicken Mole Burrito's are scrumptilicious. Also, the owner is an amazing human being that is very friendly. Will be supporting this business for many years to come. Bless and much love.

Monica S.

Yelp
Finally made a visit to this establishment and plan to go back today! Authentic, flavorful and such a wide variety of items on the menu. Their birria and chile relleno meals were a hit! Good beans and rice as well. The individual who took my order was clear, kind, repeated my order to assure he got it down accurately was great. Great joyful energy and all around on top of his game. You can dine outside only, or, take your order home. Either way you won't be disappointed. Give it a try!

Harriet E.

Yelp
Fish Taco and Vegetable Taco were excellent. Service is prompt. Too bad inside sitting is no longer an option.

Ander L.

Yelp
I usually order pickup, and they quote it as ready in 15-30 minutes. I've enjoyed all of the food I've tried. My favorite so far is the Birria Ramen combo! The consommé has noodles in it and could be a meal of its own; it's the best birria I've tried in Chicago so far.
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
So I "discovered" this place when the owner was interviewed on the news about the actions of an apartment dweller in the building she is in. The place looked interesting, so I decided to check it out. I was under the impression that this was a sit down restaurant, but during the colder months, it's a walk up window only - they plan to put tables out on the sidewalk when it's warmer. So trekking the food home to Oak Park was necessary - fortunately I had an insulated bag in my car which helped keep the food warm. So I ordered a quesabirria with the consomme, a sope with al pastor marinated pork and pineapple and an order of white queso with chips. It was the latter that was to die for - awesome dip with some jalapenos on top to add a little kick. The quesabirria was good, but the consomme that a guy chats about on a video on their website was just OK. Sope was primo. I'll be back when I can eat outside - great shop - nice staff too!
google avatar

Colby H.

Yelp
This is my new go to for a quick dinner in the area. The fish tacos are fantastic, always something I order. Really all the tacos are so tasty. Everything on the menu I have tried has been bomb. A few other favorites are the elote and fried plantains. Just great flavor. Everyone has always been super nice and friendly. This is best for take away or casual bite at the few tables by the curb.
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
So disappointed, just "OK" Very little flavor, average at best. The taco offerings in Edgewater are not up to any kind of standards for a taco person.
google avatar

Ilana O.

Yelp
Yes this place is a hole in the wall. Yes it took only about 4 seconds to inhale one of the best prepared tacos I've ever had. They staff was totally accommodating (hold the chipotle mayo please), the food - authentic, delicious AF and totally reasonably priced. I was totally snooping on some other patron's steak fries, once I was done with my fish taco, and pretty sure I'll have to go back to try them. And 18 other things on the menu. I probably shouldn't be writing this review while hungry. The chorizo chimichanga that my guy ordered was HUGE. I didn't try it, b/c I'm pork free, but it looked pretty legit - and you can see that it's longer than the plastic knife you will need to cut up this monstrous delight. This is not a place to take your family of 9, as I think there are only about 9 seats total in this place, but it IS the place to order from for your family, b/c I suspect just about everything on the menu is delicious. it was less than $20 for two of us, granted I only had one taco b/c we were heading somewhere else where I knew I'd want to have a snack at, but I might be kicking myself after the fact b/c I want all the things on their menu now. Enjoy.
google avatar

Poohdy H.

Yelp
Sorry to say but the tacos aren't that good. To me it's like Americanized tacos, I'm disinterested.
