The Best Restaurants in Lafayette, Louisiana, aka Cajun Country | Eater New Orleans

"For early birds I go to Edie’s Biscuits for sunrise hours and oversized, fluffy scratch biscuits; the menu is split into sweet and meat (think blueberry or cinnamon roll versus catfish egg and cheese), and the fried chicken biscuit is earth-shattering." - Beth D’Addono

Edie's Biscuits

Google
I’ve lived here for 6 years now and have wanted to try Edie’s since I moved. It was definitely worth the wait. I didn’t realize the seating and line would be like it was. My only complaint was how close ppls butts were to my food. I couldn’t help but to think about someone passing gas while in the line right by my food. I know that’s random- and it didn’t happen- but it was TIGHT in that space. The service was great- she was able to answer all my questions- and was VERY patient even though these was a loooooong line. (I’m not one of those customers that just had a list of questions but it was my first time and I wanted to be sure I would enjoy what I ordered) That being said- the food was probably one of the better breakfasts I’ve had in a while. We had the Edie’s breakfast and from best to worst I would rank our plates 1. Cinnamon biscuit 2. Grits (best breakfast grits I’ve EVER had in a restaurant and I didn’t even add cheese like I normally do) 3. Bacon 4. Blueberry biscuit 5. Catfish 6. Eggs If there was a biscuit competition in the area- I believe they would probably be Top 3!!! It was so soft fluffy and held together so well. It’s was almost perfection in a biscuit!

I LOVE IT HERE !! The food came out the second I put my butt in the seat (1min max) . On top of that , it was hot and DELICIOUS. These biscuits were so good , the best biscuits I’ve ever had .❤️& the bacon ????? 10/10. I’ll be back. The people were so kind , the guy in the back spoke to me and told me goodmorning ! Sweet guy !!! Praying the Lord always provides a way for them to stay in business .

Been living in Lafayette for decades and thought Eddie’s was only basic biscuits. Then I went one Saturday and realized they have an extensive breakfast menu. The food was amaaaazzzing and prices were super fair. Gonna be my new goto breakfast spot.

Google
This is a cool Southern breakfast spot. Reminded me of a New Orleans hole in the wall. The only mistake I made, was thinking I could find healthy food at biscuit joint! Very tasty food, but not much good for you...just good for the soul! I really wish the café had real cups & silverware. I especially don't like drinking hot coffee in styrofoam. I really loved the price!

Google
I was in town for work and this place was within walking distance of my hotel. I ordered the works omelet with smothered potatoes and it also came with a biscuit. It was delicious! The omelet was tender and perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients. The biscuit was so flavorful and fell apart it was so tender. It was a busy place and the staff was fast, efficient and very friendly. With the price of eggs being what they are right now I was surprised at how affordable this place was. I will be returning while I am here!

Google
The absolute best fresh honey hot out of oven softest biscuits!! Other great breakfast items too! Wish they'd be open either on Saturday or Sunday, especially for people like me who no longer reside in Lafayette but now In Houston and can only come during weekends.

Google
Wow, such lovely welcoming abd friendly people in here. I just love Lafayette abd wantvto go back to see more great folks like these ❤️ And great tasty soulful food too.

Google
Not too bad overall, but I ordered fish, grits, and eggs. I drove all the way to work only to find there was no fish in my order! The whole point of getting the dip was for the fish, so I’m completely frustrated. Then, when I tried to call them, the phone was off the hook. What a catch!

Yelp
Best breakfast biscuits EVER!! This place came highly recommended by a friend, and the food exceeded our expectations. We were planning our return tomorrow while still enjoying our breakfast. We each had a breakfast biscuit and a sweet biscuit. The ham, egg, and cheese along with the sweet blueberry was delicious. The sausage, egg, and cheese along with a sweet cinnamon one was tasty too. Of course, you needed some coffee. We look forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
I'm a sucker for a southern biscuit - there i said it. I feel better about admitting that AND felt much better after breakfast at Edies! At Edies it's all about the biscuit. Sweet biscuits , savory biscuits, meat biscuits..its about the biscuits! Dropped in for a quick bite during breakfast rush hour Edies works like a machine. Front takes the order, kitchen working biscuit assembly - all fast and delicious and all done with a friendly smile I enjoyed the chicken, egg and cheese biscuit! A crispy fried piece of chicken, gooey melted cheese and an egg - GET OUT! Said id only eat half but I'm Bryan "FULL PORTION " T.. Ate all of it! Edies well worth it for breakfast

Yelp
You know there is something good about a place when there is a line out the door. Always love supporting a local business! We got breakfast here and it was delicious fresh home made food. Their prices can't be beat. Parking is very limited along with inside seating but I recommend trying this place out.
google avatar

Lo. C.

Yelp
Food and price was great. Biscuits tasted fresh, fluffy, buttery, and the filling was decadent and packed with flavor too.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here after hearing Edie's has the best biscuits. It was my first time in the south so you know I had to try it. Edie's is a hole in the wall that is easily missed if you don't pay attention. I initially thought it was part of the gas station next door. The place is small with a few booths. The service was good, very nice people. I ordered the breakfast platter: scrambled eggs with cheese, cheese grits, sausage, and a honey biscuit. The eggs were a bit underdone for my taste. The grits were pretty decent and the sausage was average. The biscuit was fantastic! If I do go back, I'll probably just get some biscuits to go. They alone are worth the trip!
google avatar

Sheila L.

Yelp
Edie's was a great find! It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, but inside are wonderful biscuits! When in Cajun county you have to start your day with a shrimp biscuit! Edie's shrimp biscuit was amazing! It was a perfect giant soft biscuit piled high with shrimp egg & cheese! The Edie's sauce was a nice touch! Holy cow it was amazing and so filling! The blueberry biscuit is to die for! It has nice crispy edges but the inside is gooey & lovely! Service here is great! The staff is so nice and it's obvious this place is family run & their customers are treated like family too! Can't wait to come back to Edie's.

Yelp
Local Lafayette hole-in-the- wall favorite!! Absolutely delicious taste and texture every trip. It's affordable and such a positive environment even when there is a line. Which there usually is, but it moves pretty fast considering. You know you are in south Louisiana when they have a collection of spices at the local biscuit place!
google avatar

Diana A.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST biscuits in Lafayette. Must try the blueberry biscuit. You will be hooked immediately. If you prefer a savory, order the chicken biscuit. It comes with a delish tangy sauce.
google avatar

Destinique D.

Yelp
I was in town for work I previously stopped here before but didn't do a review last year. They are always busy but the wait isn't extremely long. Everything is made to order and the food is fresh. The first day I got the breakfast special with potatoes and fried fish it was amazing and the biscuit. This is my go to spot when I come out here for work. The second day I got the grits instead of the potatoes, the only issue I had was my eggs weren't cooked the same as the last time and it didn't taste the same. I'll still be back overall it's not a disappointment and the prices are amazing.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
This is a great little, local dive. The food was delish and the biscuit fell apart. It wasn't even split. I appreciated the Cajun seasoning on the table, which is somewhat necessary if you want to give it a real Cajun flavor.
google avatar

Nate C.

Yelp
Any time I visit Lafayette, this is on my list of must-visit destinations. It's a little bit of a dive (if that is even a label you can affix to a breakfast joint.) The parking can be a hassle. The seating is limited, and a line frequently forms out the front door. Also, the entire dining area desperately needs a deep cleaning. Even with all that, I completely love this place. Amazing food. Amazing staff. Even the other customers test you like family. I'm not exaggerating. Try "the works" omelette. I usually get grits as the side. It will come with one of those biscuits. Breakfast up in Heaven could not be any better than here. Luv ya like a biscuit!
google avatar

Tamara M.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to this restaurant but Was very disappointed with the experience Parking was almost impossible as parking is extremely limited and I had to circle around several times I had never been there before so did not know what to expect The restaurant (eating area is very small) When I entered it felt chaotic. The staff were kind enough but didn't explain that the bottled water had to be taken out of the fridge and that you had to gather your own plastic utensils and napkins (should consider posting a sign for customers as to what they need to do when entering I'd ordered the sausage egg and cheese biscuit. My biscuit was extremely dry and when I bit into it, it crumbled and almost disintegrated all over my clothes There was a line that seemed to move quickly However I will not be returning nor will I recommend Edie's
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
Whenever work brings me to Lafayette, I stop at Edie's for breakfast. Get there early, 630. It's full of locals, so you know it's a gem. Catfish bites r killer. (Says the lady who had never ever had catfish) Plain, blueberry & honey biscuits cut in quarters. It feeds a crowd. Always fresh, always friendly.
google avatar

Peyton F.

Yelp
Best biscuits ever man! I seriously dream about the blueberry biscuits sometimes. My grandpa used to get them for me on Fridays before school, a forever memory we'll share. I recommend to any and everyone. Very friendly staff, family vibe.
google avatar

Hailey P.

Yelp
This is a family owned place and it's a hallmark in Lafayette! The prices are incredible, so are the portions! The food is always fresh and always great service.
google avatar

Skip W.

Yelp
Great food. Great prices and friendly staff. Wish I could eat here more often. Best breakfast. Most tender chicken fried steak ever. I even bought a shirt. Hash browns were cold but not going to give one less star for that.
google avatar

Travis H.

Yelp
Love seeing the line out the door! Amazing food every single time! Nice folks too. Coffee hot and ready.

William R.

Yelp
Got breakfast here everything was awesome highly recommend fried catfish and potato's
google avatar

Jeana T.

Yelp
"Luv ya like a biscuit " by far the best biscuit I've ever had! Went for breakfast, little hole in the wall looking place. Easy parking, friendly atmosphere. Inside looks old and ran down, but homey feeling to it!

Eve F.

Yelp
They offer some amazingly unique breakfast options. Their shrimp, egg & cheese biscuit is an absolute must-try for first timers.
google avatar

Samantha N.

Yelp
Melt in your mouth biscuits!! I seriously love the sweet as well as the plain biscuits. I never heard of eating catfish for breakfast but now this is all I want to eat when I come here. The only issue I have with the place is sometimes they can make a mistake on to go orders like forgetting a meal or fixing the wrong order. Other than that, it's amazing friendly service.
google avatar

Tex F.

Yelp
Great food, everything you could imagine a country breakfast being. 3eggs any style, 5 or 6 different proteins to chose from, a side and biggist flakiest biscuit I ever experienced. All for $8 all in. Cute wait staff, and busiest kitchen imaginable. Line out the door when I left. Closes at 11:00, so that says where they're at.
google avatar

Rich R.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast and reasonably priced. I had the veggie omelette with grits. It comes with a biscuit. I will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Angie T.

Yelp
I had no idea this place existed until a coworker told me about it. Now that Edie's is on my radar you'd better believe I'll be here again and again. The Meat and Cheese omelette was cooked perfectly and the grits were buttery and salty-just like I like them but I need to explain to you guys how amazing the hash browns were. Let me start by letting you know I hate chunky hash browns. I'm strictly a shredded hash brown type of girl. Edie's does hash browns like my grandmother used to make. Almost smothered but not quite (so kinda chunky) with my absolute favorite seasoning-rosemary. To die for good hash browns, so much so I'm tempted to get a plate of them RIGHT NOW. The biscuits are on my list of things to try next time. If I can get over those hash browns. Holy yummy Batman.

Colette E.

Yelp
The biscuits are so delicious! Love love the catfish. Nothing like a Friday morning breakfast with their fried catfish and a biscuit. Location isn't the best to get out of because of traffic.
google avatar

Bobby G.

Yelp
WOW!!! One of the best biscuits I have ever had! I saw Edie's on a local Facebook page and am really glad I did! The biscuits are cooked to perfection! I really like the blueberry glazed biscuit. The glaze was really good! Both of the biscuits we ordered were smoking hot and fresh, just the way I like it! The customer service was very good. We walked in and were immediately greeted and asked if we had any questions about the menu. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sandra S.

Yelp
Omgoodness, I am speechless. Probably because my mouth is full of the best biscuit I've ever tasted to my life. I had my doubts. When I if I wanted to go here I said sure and that we could share a biscuit since I'm not that big of a fan. His response was "maybe you just haven't had the right biscuit". He was right. This simple butter biscuit for $1, was like soft sourdough with a salty buttery top. I don't even know how to describe it so I so I just ate it. They had a great menu and everything was so affordable. There is a line so go early. They're only open in the mornings and not on weekends. I'm a Texas Southern girl who grew up on biscuits. Absolutely heavenly mouthfuls of buttery deliciousness reminded me of sourdough bread, but different

Colleen B.

Yelp
This place is so good!!! The biscuits were flaky and moist!!! Prices so reasonable! Great local place to visit!

David A.

Yelp
Food awesome Good service. What else can I say. Biscuits the best in town. Egg platter, grits bacon and ham awesome.
google avatar

Ronald L.

Yelp
Ok most the best biscuits since my mawmaw. Ok that good. As you can tell I was a little impressed. That food, the service all was top notch. Worth the drive from New Iberia. Had the pork chop and egg and the brisket and should of got just the one. Two was to much. Great place.
google avatar

Nancy J.

Yelp
Amazing local place! Just found it on Yelp! Very nice staff! Owner was really nice and gave me an extra dessert for free! The food is delicious. Amazing biscuits. I will be back!

Casandra A.

Yelp
Best service I've experienced! the owner is such an wonderful person and the food is so amazing ! will be returning !
google avatar

L L.

Yelp
Returning costumers only. Long waits in chaotic environment. If you see people standing just inside the door do not bother trying. There is no queuing line. Because of this people who have not ordered and people have ordered and are waiting for their food all congregate in front of the entrance. The food maybe good but the chaos is not worth the time.
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
Best biscuits in Lafayette, guarantee!! Homemade biscuits to die for!! You must also try the blueberry biscuits, they are a game-changer!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Melt in your mouth biscuits. Made it a point to grab one before heading back to Atl. Great owners and food.
google avatar

Stephen C.

Yelp
Best breakfast spot in town by a long shot. I had the brisket & cheese biscuit, chicken & cheese biscuit with smothered potatoes. Very reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food. Service was quick once you order your food. Highly recommended
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Ok, This review might seemed off when U walk thru the Door, but order and eat the food. 3 Star Cuisine at a 4 Star Level. Prices are so sooo reasonable, but the freshness and quality are Four Stars for this style of food. This ain't a Haute Cuisine, it's real comfort food. The Biscuit is the Bomb, slight sour dough flavor. Grits, so simple, yet so perfect. Eggs, cooked perfectly. The Chicken Fry is the most perfect version of what you ate in Elementary School. Perfect Place.
google avatar

KrisTina R.

Yelp
My husband & I stopped here for a quick breakfast before driving back to New Orleans. I would, absolutely, visit again. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We order some sweet biscuits to go. They must have been good because I didn't get to try any, they were gone so fast once we got home to our kids.
google avatar

Tom F.

Yelp
Edie's has the Best breakfast and friendliest workers in town! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Juliet K.

Yelp
I've been eating at Edie's for decades and the food and service have always been top-notch. I ordered the breakfast platter with chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, smothered potatoes, and their famous biscuits. You can get any type of meat you'd like, I am a sucker for cfs! Stanley the owner, does an impeccable job of managing the place with speed and a warm smile. Definitely a stop for breakfast or brunch. Make sure and check the hours, they open super early and close at 11 am.

Laura G.

Yelp
My husband and I chose Edie's after we spent a night in Hammond while traveling. The online reviews were just too good to pass up such a wonderful opportunity. We ordered eggs and chicken tenders and a veggie omelet. Eggs were cooked perfectly to order, and chicken tenders were good. The only disappointment was the frozen hash brown patty. My husband had expected "real" hash browns. The veggie omelet was so good--soft, thin, crepe-like eggs and loaded with vegetables. Grits were perfectly cooked. And the biscuits with honey! We will go back. Thank you, Edie's, for a great breakfast experience!
google avatar

Ray C.

Yelp
This is a amazing place for breakfast! The best biscuits you've ever had. They have awesome blueberry biscuits that are probably their signature item. They have really good eggs and bacon platters that are inexpensive and delicious. The service is amazing and friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Mark C.

Yelp
Wow this place was amazing! Great food served quickly by super friendly people. Bacon was especially good. Cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Biscuits were large, buttery, and tasty. And we couldn't believe the prices were so low! Atmosphere was nothing fancy, just good, clean, and friendly.
google avatar

Rosalyn Y.

Yelp
Best biscuits I've ever had. If you're in Lafayette, don't sleep on this place. I had a savory and sweet biscuit. Both were phenomenal. I wish they were in Houston. I know a location in clear lake if you would like to expand!!!

Myra G.

Yelp
Great food. Breakfast a must. Locally owned. Related to me through marriages. Stockstill and staff are most welcoming.
google avatar

Alejandra T.

Yelp
Best biscuits hands down !! Have tried all of their biscuits and the have been amazing!! They breakfast is sooo good ! This place is definitely a most try!!! Would recommend to anyone The only bad part is that is not open weekends so I could go for breakfast with my husband other than that it's pretty good !
google avatar

Timmy W.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken tenders and they were ice cold. It wasn't even worth going back to ask for hot ones. I fed them to my puppies. Never going back. Note to the owner: try serving hot food.
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
Incredible value. Biscuits & breakfasts hot and fresh - and incredibly inexpensive! Pork chop, egg, and gravy biscuit not good for the waistline - but really good for the soul. Full breakfast of eggs, meat, grits, and a biscuit for $5? And folks there really nice, too. Do it. And do it often.
