Our Favorite Hotel Restorations From the Past Year

"Ex Libris is the name of the building — this was once the home of the Diário Ilustrado newspaper, and even now its ground floor contains a bookstore called Livraria Camões. Upstairs, in the residential portion of the building, is Almaria Ex Libris Apartments, whose units are every bit as stylish as any boutique hotel rooms in town, but which are unmistakably full-featured apartments." - Mark Fedeli

Our family (two adults and two teens) had the best stay at this hotel. It is well situated near the attractions Lisbon, clean, spacious, and comfortable. We thoroughly appreciated the AC during a heatwave in Europe, having laundry in our unit, and the fresh bread and pastries delivered daily. But above all, the personalized service was above and beyond. Special thanks to Eduardo for recognizing my daughter’s birthday (we didn’t mention it, but he noticed it on her passport that we provided at check-in) and bringing her a delicious birthday cake that we all enjoyed. I whole-heartedly recommend this hotel and hope to return!

Excellent stay! The hotel is very well located, and the staff were extremely helpful. The studio was exceptionally well-equipped — from an orange juice press and washing machine (with soap!) to thoughtful touches like an umbrella. Everything was spotless, quiet, and comfortable. Great air conditioning and shutters on the windows added to the comfort. Highly recommended!

Don't stay anywhere else!!|We visited in May 2025 and stayed in the 1-bedroom apartment. The apartment was very spacious, beautifully decorated with contemporary design and clean on arrival and serviced throughout the stay. |The complimentary home-baked bread, sweets and fruit delivered each morning was a homey touch. We felt very comfortable and secure to staying in this apartment during our time in Lisbon, despite being located in a very central area. It is situated in a very convenient location, close to explore all of Lisbon spots; Chiado, Bairro Alto, Cais Do Sodre and walking distance to public transport. |Washing machine in the apartment is very useful and well operated (didn't damage any of our garments).|Thank you to the very friendly and helpful staff (Eduardo) for his service and forza Sporting CP!

We thought this hotel was pretty good value! ||The location is very convenient ||The rooms are quite large and well appointed. There’s small kitchen with some very basic supplies and bread plus a bakery treat is dropped off daily. There’s a little washing machine which was handy after traveling for some days. The bathroom is probably the only thing that let the room down a little but was fine. The blockout shutters were great!||The staff were lovely and very helpful!||We would stay here again.

The stay was excellent. The staff is very friendly, the apartment is cleaned daily and is very clean. As a family, we really appreciated the kitchen with a large fridge. The location is perfect, right on the edge of Bairro Alto. Within a few minutes’ walk, there are dozens of bars and restaurants. The location is also very central in general. The windows are well insulated, so it’s very quiet. In the morning, fresh bread rolls and croissants are delivered to the apartment. We would have appreciated more variety in the selection of cheese and jam. I can highly recommend the place!

We loved our stay at these apartments. The location is great, the rooms are clean with nice amenities including a daily delivery of items for breakfast that you can prepare in your apartment, and the staff was helpful. Our group of six stayed in 3 different apartments. A special touch was the decor - each apartment is uniquely decorated and themed after some different Portugese authors.

Highly recommend this place. Great staff and location. Our room was cleaned every day and breakfast refilled. Fresh baked goods every morning too - my favourite part! The location is walking distance to most tourist spots / shopping. Will come back here if we ever visit Lisbon again.

Our family of 4 stayed 3 nights @ the Almaria Ex Libris Chiado in Lisbon. It is a fully furnished Apartment with 2 bedrooms, a sitting cum dining room & kitchenette with all the amenities very centrally located in Chiado. There are plenty of restaurants nearby to dine & the Pink Street just a short walk away. Breakfast is replenished everyday with cold cuts, cheese, cereal, yogurt, croissants & fresh bread. The Apartment is also cleaned everyday. Will stay in heartbeat again. 5 Stars!|

Yelp
Charming hotel in Lisbon! We stayed on the fourth floor (unit 4C) and loved the decor and central location. Housekeeping stocks your fridge with milk, eggs, yogurt, deli meats and fresh fruit every day. You also get fresh bread delivered to your door at 8:30am. There are plates, utensils, pans, a coffee machine, dishwasher, and even an in-unit laundry machine for you to use. No gym but there's a nice supermarket (Celeiro) within walking distance and i definitely got a workout from climbing flights of stairs back to the hotel. The only major downside is we could hear everything going on in the hall and upstairs. There were kids running around in the unit directly above us and it got a little loud at times. Other than that, I loved my stay here!
