Excellent food, great tasting menu and fine hosting Had a marvellous evening, with a varied and delicious tasting menu that was a constant and pleasant surprise. Ben is a great host and the kitchen staff are cool. Delightful atmosphere in the restaurant and overall an excellent experience. Very reasonably priced. Look forward to going again

Amazing 'noma' inspired dinner. Only one seating per night. Fixed tasting menu. Everything sourced locally (if possible) and freshly made. Very creative dishes. Loved the raw scallops with green almonds. Seat is at two large communal tables. Dinner takes about three hours. Service was friendly a d quick. Highly recommended. Thanks for a great experience.

For lunch we had the fixed menu of 6 different courses and we enjoyed them all, some surprises that we really liked such as the brassicas in a beef vinaigrette. We also had drinks, so glad to see Bon Accord soft drinks especially the rhubarb and 3 Scottish beers, I had the Cosmic Crush Raspberry Sour from Brewdog which was very refreshing. The service is good explaining each dish and you can view the chefs making the dishes up.

My friend really recommended this but sadly it did not live up to my expectations. What I loved: - We sit together at a community table and we made new friends. What I didn’t love: - Almost none of the food... maybe my tastebuds are not mature enough for doughnuts filled with liver and a dish of pigs head jelly... but we really just liked a couple of dishes (not loved but liked) the other ones I didn’t eat... The price for the two of us was £120 food + £70 wine pairing with it and I also just thought it was overpriced compared to the food we got... But some other people seemed to love it so don’t let my review stop you from going haha.

Our first visit here was to a Brazilian style lunch. We really enjoyed the whole experience. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and well looked after. The chef spoke about all the courses we were going to have that evening which sounded amazing and luckily they were!

Another brilliant evening at the Studio this time with Italian Spanish chef Giacomo Hassan from L'Alegria in Barcelona. Five starters, three main and two deserts of very accomplished creative dishes using excellent ingredients. Nothing fancy, nothing unnecessary just lovely dishes.

I have tried lunch tasting menu. The presentation of food is very good but some of dish that I try taste a little bit not good with combination so I will try again next time.

I traveled very out of my way to come here after reading about it online and I can safely say I would travel across the ocean just to go back here. It was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. It is small and filled with long wooden tables where everyone is sat together. I went during lunch time on a Saturday and it was quiet. The menu changes frequently (and isn't online) so I can't look up exactly what it was that I had but it was all amazing. I had a sparkling wine cocktail and the sparkling wine of the day. Both were delicious. The homemade potato bread appetizer was out of this world - so doughy and soft and delicious. Next, I had lamb sticks - almost like mozzarella sticks but instead of cheese they were filled with incredibly fresh lamb. So so good. Then, I had a mushroom and egg soup that was amazing. Next, buttery lobster and potatoes. Finally, a pistachio and berry dessert which was amazing. If you are in Edinburgh, you HAVE to come here!!

Edinburgh Food Studio is run by Ben and Shashana and is a fab addition to the Southside. I first came across Ben about 3 years ago when he was home for the holidays and doing a talk on food at Iglu - grasshopper soy sauce and bee larvae granola anyone? For the record, both were super tasty! Ben previously worked at Nordic Food Lab and following this, at the studio, unusual and traditional ingredients are presented in new ways with an open kitchen so diners can see the dishes in progress and large communal tables. I came for dinner last week as Roddie Loan who supplies seafood to michelin starred Noma was here. Roddie left Norway at 3am on Thursday morning with clams, sea urchins and seaweeds, plus aqua vite to cook for lucky Edinburgh punters who managed to get booked in for his Arctic Feast. What a feast it was! I'd never had sea urchins before and the inner five year old was mesmerised watching them still move, even after we'd eaten the insides. They were lovely and sweet. We followed this with clams and mussels - fab. Then came clam tartare and my gluten free version came with buckwheat and beautifully earthy scarlet capped mushrooms. Cod with beautiful buttery mash followed and then dessert was an Norwegian rice pudding with cinnamon and butter. Sounds weird but was lovely. I didn't get cheese and instead had a sea buckthorn sorbet which was both savoury and sweet. Throughout, Roddie and Ben talked us through the dishes, telling stories and providing a really great night. The communal dining experience won't work for everyone but I love it - trying new things with fellow co-conspirators really adds to the atmosphere.

The Edinburgh Food Studio is a wonderful addition to Edinburgh's food scene! There's no other place in the city quite like it - delicious & creative food, guest chefs and lots of exciting events throughout the year. I regularly check their site to see what's coming up next! Keep it coming guys!

Traveling from California I wanted a unique food experience in Edinburgh. The Food Studio didn't disappoint. Food full of flavor, style and fun. A bit out of the main part of town, it's a short taxi/uber ride for some wonderful food, wine, beer and fun. I highly recommend you try this wonderful treasure. I wish the owners achieve their dreams.

Hungarian food & wine night - very disappointing for the money. Me and my partner went to the above event on the Friday night and were left feeling angered by the poor service we received, and by being crammed onto a large table with our elbows virtually in our neighbours' laps. This is not to mention the minimalist portions of food and wine offered for a Michelin star price. We were charged £42 for the food and £35 for the 'wine pairing' per person. First of all, wine was not served with every course although to call this a 'seven-course meal' is stretching the imagination. Five different wines were served; however, each glass was little more than a taster and the total amount of wine served over the 7 courses (for the price of £35) was not much more than a large glass of wine. Extra glasses were on offer for £8-11 a glass. However, this price, in my view at least, does not reflect the quality of the wines served. The two wines from Tokaj were admittedly of good quality, the others were forgettable, lacking character. They would not stand out in quality from your average supermarket plonk. The 'sommelier' was obviously cutting corners with regards to both the volume and the quality of the wine served. Overall we felt like we had been taken for a ride with this so-called 'wine pairing'. The food was nicely presented and a lot of effort had obviously been taken to prepare it. Again, however, we felt like corners had been cut. Rather than being a seven-course meal this was more like four amuse bouches and three small starters. Bread was supplied, presumably to compensate for the Lilliputian portions. When the 'starter' was served - four pea-sized crumbs of goose crackling, a tiny blob of horseradish and a quarter of a pickled baby-radish - we wondered whether it was some kind of a joke. One of the 'mains' was supposed to have included cod and trout, although cod was crossed off the menu with no explanation given. My partner's fish was undercooked, not what you would expect at this price. The chef boasted of procuring several kilos of 'mangalica' pork from Hungary, but the portion served was little bigger than a fifty-pence piece. Two of the dessert courses were nice. But calling a thumbnail-sized piece of gingerbread - not baked in house - a 'course' is roughly the equivalent of calling an After Eight mint (coffee not included) a 'dessert'. On top of all this, the food menu had very little to do with Hungarian cuisine, despite this being the event's main selling point. Service was sloppy and slow with plates and glasses often plonked down on the table, the waiters unapologetically leaning over their guests and knocking into their chairs. On occasion, the head waiter's 'banter' was inappropriate for a supposedly 'fine-dining establishment'. Overall, we feel mis-sold. This was average wine and underwhelming food at an overinflated price. We regret going to this event and wish we had gone somewhere where we would have been given our money's worth.

A small restaurant with a warm atmosphere, friendly and cohesive staff, and artistic ambiance. While a bit pricey, the food was totally worth it. It's a set menu, so they just bring you food and at the end I was full, but not uncomfortably so. The flavor combinations were exquisite and I treasured every bite. Great presentation as well - I could tell they valued their food on each plate that left the kitchen.

Edinburgh food studio is my favourite restaurant ever, and that is not a statement I make lightly. It is non-pretentious, friendly, and can make dishes that are almost perfect (I had a halibut with dulce seaweed tonight that filled my heart with genuine happiness). They have a network of some of the best chefs in the world, and they bring them to town to play, serving dinners at a ridiculous value. Keep an eye on their website for events, and just go!
