This restaurant had been on my list of places to try their cuisine. On our last trip to Tampa, I made reservations and was not disappointed with our dining experience.
Located on West Kennedy Boulevard on the eastbound side toward downtown Tampa, Edison produces some delicious cocktails and cuisine that speaks to me in a way that's poignant and profound, profound and poignant.
We started, naturally, with cocktails. While I am not a fan of George Dickel whiskey, the Tennessee Field cocktail was quite good -- sage-infused #12 combined with Creme de Casis, turbinado syrup, egg white, and lavender. The First Coast Derby was also very refreshing between the mint-infused St. Augustine bourbon, fresh OJ, and honey.
My wife and I split the Little Gem Salad, the avocado leaf-seared yellowfin tuna, and the wood-grilled octopus. Everything was impeccably and meticulously prepared and presented while equally as tantalizing on the palate.
The salad was magical between the sweet potato, blueberry, soy-cured organic soft boiled egg (wow), crispy Korean bacon (my mouth was dancing), and brown sugar bacon vinaigrette. Most people tend to poo-poo salad, but this one was fabulous.
The tuna was very good, served on a green mango salad with a Camarillo sorbet, fish sauce, caramel, and tamarind crunch, which took my palate for a spin, trying to figure out what I experienced, but knowing it was terrific. The octopus was solid, served with chickpeas, zucchini, bell peppers, eggplant, and cauliflower.
For dessert, I had the sweet corn, sugar-crusted butter cake that concluded this dinner with an exclamation point. This dish was so sweet and succinct between the caramel and meringue and the brown butter ice cream, as well as the pineapple, coconut, papaya, and passion gel. If I had room left in my stomach before dessert, I didn't at this point.
This restaurant is glorious, and I applaud its glory. My wife and I had a tremendous dining experience. This cuisine should satisfy any foodie.
