Seriously people, I have never been here before! But how?!? Effe Cafe is a total hidden gem tucked away in a Marathon gas station. You can easily miss it. Probably explains how I have never stepped foot here before.
I love a good spot with good eats and fresh food. We try to support local businesses when we can. Effe Cafe may be my new fave little spot. I want to try everything on the menu.
When you walk into the gas station, Effe Cafe is located to your left. Literally tucked in a tiny space. But it works. No tables inside or outside to sit at. You order and you get outta there. Quick and efficient.
We arrived early and there was only one person ahead of us waiting on their order. Another couple came in behind us. Once we ordered and were waiting, a slew of people were rolling in here for the cafe. Not for the gas or the convenience store. For the CAFE!!! It's obvious they are popular with the locals.
They also have a glass case display with fresh pastries and bread. Oh man, next time we will try some of these. I'm a sucker for pastries!
The cafe has a unique menu of breakfast and lunch items. That was what caught my attention when we were looking for a place for a quick breakfast. Don't even get me started on the prices, totally fair and reasonable. Affordable!!! This goes for the food and coffee. Cheap coffee. Everything is made fresh to order. The chef hustled like nobody's business!
I got the lentil hummus, butternut squash, alfalfa sprouts on sourdough. My daughter got the bagel with bacon, egg and cheese. The bagel is homemade! Dude! Also ordered a large cappuccino and fresh squeezed orange juice.
What can I say, everything we ordered was divine. Super fresh and incredibly delicious! My sourdough was perfectly crispy and tasty, butternut squash was cooked just right and the lentil hummus was interesting but I didn't dislike it, honestly, it grew on me. The flavors worked together. I'm not a huge fan of alfalfa sprouts so I removed most of it, left some but not a lot,
The bagel sandwich was quite amazing actually. You can definitely tell the bagel was homemade and fresh! Soft and chewy and toasted to perfection. The bite hit just right. I had to take a bite and try it, the fresh squeezed orange juice was the perfect sweetness with no added sugar. Cappuccino was hot and on point.
Chef was super accommodating and so nice. I asked questions about the cafe and how long they've been around. They had to close shop for a bit, not because of the pandemic but due to the gas station making changes. Luckily, Effe Cafe reopened and back in business. Thank goodness too because everyone needs to come try this place! Loved everything about it.
