Paul,
What you have responded made very little sense to me. If the Congee is the owners mom's special recipe, then you should call it Ma's Congee, not Thai Congee, I never had Congee that thick in Thailand, at least not at restaurants. As for the Crab omelette, the $13.95 portion cost balance scheme does not apply because I basiscally paid $13.95 for a big fried egg, a ton of rice and 3 slices cucumbers, so those strings of crab in there better be Alaskan King Crab.

Indeed this is the first Thai breakfast joint in Chicago. We are quite familiar with the "Friend" chain, so we came with a certain expectations.
Many people don't understand the difference between porridge and congee, but plainly speaking, porridge is cooked down to the point that the rice is broken up like fine oat meal, thick and sticky. This is what they serve here, it is not congee. If you put your rice in a good rice cooker with a porridge setting, you will get that. Actual congee is cooked downed manually with time and care, it is more watery. The ingredients are similar to the traditional Thai congee, but I was expecting at least a bit of pork broth over it if the porridge is not seasoned (salted). And yes there is a huge difference in taste if the porridge is cooked with salt or after. So when you get to the second half of the porridge, it becomes very bland, like eating plain white rice. I can make this better at home and I don't need to spend $13.95. By the way, why is everying $13.95? 😂
The crab omelette was very disappointing. I have had countless crab omelettes (in any style) when I was in Thailand, I won't compare this to Jay Fai in Bangkok, but there is almost nothing in the omelette. The only sizable crab I saw was that little pinch of it on top of the omelette. So it is basically just a big fried egg. I am sure the other omelette styles are the same. The chili sauce was good though.
I was going to try the Moo Ping, it is one of my favorite Thai street food items. But I just remembered how much I paid when I was in Thailand, I just couldn't bite the bullet.
For those people who gave bad reviews on the American breakfast items, would you order Thai fried rice at an American restaurant? Enough said.
