Egger's Ice Cream Parlor Review - Staten Island - New York - The Infatuation

"This Staten Island-only ice cream spot has been serving sundaes and double scoops in a cone for almost a century, and their Richmond Town location has takeout, delivery, and a bunch of picnic tables available every day until 10pm (and 11pm on weekends). Heads up: the original spot on Forest Avenue doesn’t currently offer outdoor seating - although they’re open for pick-up and delivery. photo credit: Adam Friedlander" - Hannah Albertine

The winter wonderland experience was a fun and relatively low risk. The staff were all friendly and accommodating and most importantly they wore their masks properly! The igloos are adorable but a little cold. I would suggest wearing a scarf and sweater

Google
I love Egger’s! It’s a Staten Island institution, with a bevy of great flavors, super nice staff, and fun sundaes. This location is extra special, since it’s in a handsome little wood house in Historic Richmond Town. I was excited to see specials like lavender honey and cannoli cream (delicious!) alongside the classics. When on Staten Island, Egger’s is an essential stop.

Neal Green

Google
Winter wonderland was so cool. The Igloos were warm and well decorated for the season. The service was great and the price was fair. We have reservations to go back again .

There is no doubt the ice cream is delicious. Maple walnut, cherry vanilla, banana are very good. It tastes like real fruits. The reason I gave 3 stars is because of the staff. The staff needs a lot of training. They are lacking professionalism and manners. Please provide them proper training and customer service ettiques.

Google
Egger's Ice Cream is Hidden gem of staten island. Can't see it from the road, but if you know that it's there, located inside historic Richmond town, it's a special treat to enjoy...👍

Vickie

Google
I give it 5 stars because the ice cream is homemade and tasty. I would give a 4.5 because they are a little expensive but I guess everything is now a days. There are times they are extremely busy, so you may have to wait, but the ice cream is so tasty, it's worth it. Love that it is located in Richmond Town so you can walk around while you eat, sit at their tables and get served or sit in the town and enjoy the scenery.

Google
The ice cream is fantastic. Unfortunately, the service takes a bit. There was a steady flow of customers but it was not super busy. There were 6 people in line at the window. So we went to a table where there were only two couples and one other family. After 10 min I had to go ask for menus. Then another 15 min before a teenager came out to ask for our order. Getting the order was another 10 min. Again, ice cream is great if you’re good with waiting.

Google
We came our of church and had to stop to have ice cream it was so good it tastes like home made the best.

Yelp
Well, to start the food was delicious and it was hard to chose because the menu was very full of different foods. When we walked in we were immediately greeted with a very welcoming hello. The atmosphere is great for families as well as someone alone and great for couples. Very versatile! Please if you have a chance stop by .

Yelp
Such a sweet spot for a nighttime ice cream run with the dog! The ice cream is soooo good and definitely has fresh ingredients. There's always a line for a reason

Yelp
Cute place, big parking lot. We ordered cherry vanilla ice cream , vanilla fudge swirl, cookies and cream, orange sherbet. All were good but I feel it was a little too sweet for me. Workers were friendly and helpful. You order and pay at the window and when your order is ready someone comes out from the door and gives it to you. Nice system so that things get moving especially when it gets busy.

Yelp
Egger's is a bit of a Staten Island staple, which almost serves as a colonial themed ice cream shop in a historic neighborhood. Nothing is better than a summer night with ice cream and a beautiful walk through historic Richmondtown. The only downside is how long you will be waiting in line because of how popular this place is. The ice cream tastes good, but the real standout is their brownies which can be added to make a sundae. They've got a pretty diverse selection of flavors, and the usual selections between cones, cups, and milkshakes. Their hours are good as well, especially in summer prime time.

Yelp
Ok, so let me start by saying that this is a total rip off! As far as the stars go, one star goes for the visually stunning display of lights and igloos and another star for the nice people working there (our hostess and waitress). The igloos themselves, while nicely decorated, are pretty cold (at least ours was) with a sad tiny heater in the corner. Also the entry way zipper was ripped so your not sealing off the little bit of warm air that the heated is generating. Couch was filthy. The ice cream is delicious but again who needs a ton of it when you're sitting in a barely heated igloo in the winter. I really wish they added cookies, cupcakes and desserts to the menu to go nicely with the hot coffee and other hot beverages. Also, beware, there is a $10/person charge no matter what you order even if it's just a $3 coffee and the $30 charge they take for reservation is NOT a deposit that gets credited to your actual bill which is Insane!!! So if you go with a party of 7 you're paying $70+ for your bill plus the $30 that you prepaid is on top of that. I am sorry but no ice cream coffee or hot chocolate in the world is worth that. Poor tactic by the management or ownership of this place. Very disappointed that they're ripping people off during such tough times and capitalizing on people being desperate to do something fun and get out of the house and entertain kids. My humble opinion, do not waste your money and find a better way to spend 45 minutes.

Yelp
1st time stopping at Richmond Town place. Ordered a large root beer float. Cup was filled 3/4 full with root beer & a small scoop of vanilla ice cream that was hanging off the paper cup. I had to quickly push the ice cream into the soda otherwise I would have lost it. Cost $10 and change for large. I didn't think it was worth my money. I might as well got medium size for the same amount as large. I wouldn't return there for the float or milkshake. Maybe ice cream cone or a cup?? The ice cream itself was good. I'm

Yelp
We visited "off ice cream season" but Eggers had a great assortment of seasonal flavors like Apple Pie, Pumpkin, and Halloween inspired ice creams. I had the Apple Pie which was very tasty; it had a nice cinnamon apple taste w/ pieces of pie crust!! (1 scoop $3.80) I tried a sample Pumpkin but found the taste too artificial and slightly odd w/ spices. I tried a sample of coffee as well and it was too sweet, not enough coffee power. This is a new location for Eggers in Historic Richmond Town but it's situated inside a park area which is spacious and has multiple park benches to sit outside and enjoy. Also a lot of parking available! I know Eggers is a Staten Island favorite (as it has been around since 1932) so I will definitely give it another chance.

Yelp
Regular pitstop when required to enter the land of Staten. Creamy, old fashion country style ice cream. Thick and delicious. Strolling Old Richmond Town with a cone in hand enhances it all. A rare learning experience in SI. Just get there early, before the locals

Yelp
They were very crude to my son and put themselves into a situation they had no part of. The owner then discussed how she'd treat this as a training opportunity. My cousin recently messaged them about their crude dealings with my and my son and they said "it would be best if you collect the full story before passing judgement". The full story is my son had an incident and the people at Richmondtown eggers put themselves into the situation and were crude. After this happened several people reached out discussing other events that happened at the hands of the eggers staff here.

Yelp
Hours are still wrong on the Internet including their website and phone recording - they're closed! Drove a half hour, wouldve just went to the original!! When there's actually staff, place is cute and ice cream is quality. Just soured my experience.

Yelp
This is a love/hate review. Firstly their icecream is fantastic. Some of the best I tasted. If just for that I would give 5 stars...Why 2 stars you ask...AVOID the "Igloo" experience It is a total ripoff and was terrible! It is so pretty and was excited to go. The igloo smelled of horse manure. Not a good start. I ordered some extras including a choc bunny. The waitress comes in with a half melted bunny. The waitress was nice enough but they fail to tell you the details. It was almost 40 dollars for the icecream which they don't tell you is not included at all in the rental of the igloo which is very costly. So the question is why charge per person for the igloo and not a flat rate if nothing is really included. While pretty and cute the horse manure smell and almost 100 dollars for 3 people and only 45 minutes is absurd for what you get. Tip..buy the great icecream and walk around Old Richmondtown and look at the cool igloo setup from a distance. Do not rent one.

Yelp
hmm where do I begin...I waited 25 minutes in the scorching summer heat for a milkshake I didn't order (my sundae melted like frosty the snowman as it took almost as long as an episode of Judge Judy for me to get my ice cream!)...there's literally a 40-man roster working at Eggers on summer nights yet it still takes foreverrr but when I go to Ralphs it takes 2 minutes! the prepubescent teenagers working there seem clueless half the time and would be better suited managing a chipotle or a white castle or whatever...not to mention my small milkshake that i could barely taste the cookies in despite it being cookies and cream cost $7.50 and it was fully melted when I received it! Eggers better get their act together soon

Yelp
This review is for the Snug Harbor location. Walked in today with my family and almost walked right out. If it was 95 degrees outside, it must have been 110 degrees inside. How is there not proper air conditioning or ventilation in this place for the workers? They were literally melting like the ice cream I was served. I'm not sure if its some regulation that no AC units are allowed because it's some "historical site," but it is cruel to expect anyone to able to work in those conditions. It's one thing to want to grow the business, but it's another to do it at the expense of the workers like this. Not sure if ACs are planned for this location, but maybe you shouldn't have opened until they were put in place. Been a customer of Egger's for years and noticed the quality has dropped with each new location (we like Forest Ave location but Urby was awful). Definitely lost a customer today.

Yelp
Old fashion ice cream parlor located in the heart of richmond town. They have been at this location for the past year but it is our first visit. No complaints able to socially distance and follow the current covid 19 regulations to keep everyone safe. Outdoor seating is available thru the property and the overall atmosphere is certainly charming

Yelp
We always go to Eger s. on Clark Ave and ice cream delicious ! Unfortunately last visit my daughters vanilla ice cream ended up having pieces of walnut on bottom . If she had a nut allergy that visit could have ended in disaster. The kids working there need to be taught to be more careful. A " minor little mistake" could kill someone.

Yelp
I will admit the winter igloo had such a cute ambience. It felt like I wasn't even on Staten Island. My sister read it on their site and purchased 3 tickets for $34 after tax ($10 per person.) They explained you would had a heated igloo, ice cream etc. WELL, you're only allowed to stay for 45 minutes, which I understand because it's limited. What I don't understand is why when it was all set and down it came out to $64.00 !!!!!!! Literally had a stroke. The site NEVER mentioned that you're only paying $30 to sit in an igloo with an electric heater. Also, since when does ice cream come to $34, when only two people order? I left feeling like was a scam, I was conned into something that it wasn't. So upsetting. I advise if you are going on a date, or as a family, being your check book. Upon leaving I asked why were we charged $60, their excuse was, "to sit in an igloo."
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The location is great. Historic Richmond town is so nice. Eggers has a long list of old fashion ice cream. The prices are a little overpriced but the plus side is they have outdoor seating.
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
I was trying to make a reservation for weeks for my sons birthday. I felt so bad for the girl answering the phones she gave my number to the owners many times and they didn't return the call. I just get a call at 10pm oh sorry it's so late I am calling you back it seemed important. Wait what, you call me back weeks later and no apology at 10:05pm. I guess they don't care about the business. Very odd experience considering I was trying to make reservations online for weeks.
google avatar

Rick P.

Yelp
Ice cream was good, nothing to write home about. Please watch out for sneaky tactics. I ordered 2 kids scoops and was wondering why it was so expensive.. The girl said she didn't even realize she charged me for the big size but did not offer to change the order or refund my money.. Also didn't give me a receipt,I guess so I didn't know what other sneaky charges they added, but I do know they charged .90 for sprinkles. I will not come back to this establishment!

Yelp
The nicest thing about the place is it's location as a friend and I commented you feel like you are in a small southern town. On my visit there was a long line so be prepared to wait. The staff had the line moving, mainly due to the fact half the menu items were not available so it wasn't too hard to decide what to order. We were made aware by the ringing of a cow bell, keeping the experience authentic to historic Richmondtown. The authenticity was, of course, brought to a halt when the worker announced which flavors they were out of in a classic Staten Island accent. I got the chocolate chocolate chip with whipped cream. When the order was called, this is when they notified me they were out of whipped cream. My ice cream was good but a quarter of it was already melted. I'll give it another try, maybe during the day when they have their full menu available. The candy is located in the seating area for those of you who are seeking that out. It's definitely a nice place to come and walk around in as you eat your dessert.

Yelp
Great old fashioned ice cream. Took my kids here the coffee and Vanilla ice cream was great. Richmond town is so cool A nice blast past.

Roxanne G.

Yelp
This place is adorable and the ice cream was amazing. The lines seemed a bit disorganized but we didn't have any trouble. It got more crowded as we were leaving.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Try the banana ice cream with peanut butter on top, it's amazing! Really cute location, nice outdoor seating too. Eggers is my go-to for ice cream on Staten Island, great homemade whipped cream too and I haven't tried a sundae yet but that's just another reason to go back!

Emina S.

Yelp
Horrible experience! At first they changed my reservation from 6:00pm! Total rip off! Staff was not polite and all they told us you we have to take our ice cream to go! I do not recommend this place to anyone!

A P.

Yelp
Went to Egger's recently. Very disappointed. Not only overly priced $6.00 + for a one scoop Sundae one topping no whipped cream. Asked for whipped cream on the side charged for it. Doesn't it come with sundae anyway? Servers are way too young to be handling this location. No manager on site. Sundae sloppily made. Ordered three sundaes. All had different amounts of ice cream. Not consistent. Hot fudge. Not hot or thick The way it should be. Just watered down chocolate syrup. So so disappointed. Will not be returning. Carvel beats Egger's any day. 2 for 1 sundae Wednesday. Sundae the way their supposed to be. Maybe try some training for your young servers.

Yelp
Popped by Eggers for some after dinner ice cream with my buddies and come to find out they only stock the dairy free ice cream in the summer ?! Apparently during the non-summer months they only carry some sorbet / ice for those that can't do dairy which is crazy given the amount of people who can not eat dairy products these days ! We were all dreaming of some dairy free vanilla ice cream with some chocolate sauce and nuts on top --- only to have them dashed hearing they only carry mango sorbet this time of year but when summer comes they order the dairy free ice cream and have it on hand for summer. As someone who can't eat dairy, the ability to not eat dairy is 12 months a year which is how many months they should carry dairy free ice cream. The other item to note is that the service was very disorganized--- we would stand in line waiting and the person in front of us would get served and then the worker would walk away from the window NEVER to return -- so we stood there and stood there -- then we joined another line at another window, SAME THING happened--- and finally after 15 minutes someone comes over and is like "is anyone helping you ?!!" They have multiple windows -- all erratic on who is working that window -- workers helping at one window and then just walking away from that window and never returning --- popping up at another window to take orders...it needs to be better managed. But I'll tell you who did pop up at the service window - this cute dog, Elvis the poodle -- standing on his back legs and popping up where the person taking the order should be --- he was quite adorable and at least he came to wait on us -- but I kinda think dog fur doesn't belong in a food establishment. Stock the dairy free please !!!

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! The guy here was also super nice and helpful about the menu. He made wonderful suggestions. I definitely recommend the waffle sundae...thank me later!!

Leslian F.

Yelp
not a good experience, the waitress forgot my sons chocolate sprinkles and my daughters bananas then she put caramel on my pistachio ice cream after telling her not to do so, and to top it all off our drinks did not show up until the end when i asked what happened to the drinks. They brought it out when it was time to go meanwhile i received a text about 45 mins before my reservation asking how many in my party and what drinks we wanted so that it can be ready when we got there however we got nothing and paid too much for an awful experience. but i must say my kids loved the ice cream.
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Ice cream was nothing to write home about. Had their pistachio. Much better out there. They also didn't have the advertised seasonal flavors, which were the only ones that sounded any good. Tried the vanilla and chocolate, black raspberry and one other. A resounding "meh". Getting three stars because it's hella cute and a nice photo op.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
It's really really good ice cream. Fresh and flavorful. The banana ice cream tastes like you're biting into a fresh banana. The milkshakes are great as well. It sucks that this location is seasonal as it is very close to me but since I don't think ice cream sells quite as easy during the winter months it makes perfect sense.

Donato G.

Yelp
This Egger's is very poorly run. They always run out of flavors as they do not keep enough inventory on the premises. My first time coming here, they ran out of half of the flavors on the menu. The manager tried to accommodate us by taking 10% off of our check, which only amounted to about $2. The service is very slow as they do not employ enough servers. Orders are often messed up as well. With that being said, the atmosphere is amazing and the ice cream is very good. Management just needs to improve the service.
google avatar

Gia M.

Yelp
I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews. They're pretty dramatic if you ask me. The ice cream is great. The service is wonderful. And you can not beat the ambiance! This place has everything! Especially in the warmer months. Love it here! I go every chance I get! Great for families, friends, dates or if you're going solo. Love it!

Jackie H.

Yelp
I went for the first time to Eggers at Old Richmond Town and I really liked the ice cream but was disappointed because the staff member who made my Hot Fudge Sundae had no clue how to make a Hot Fudge Sundae. There was barely any fudge in the cup with the ice cream. I basically had a giant cup of Vanilla ice cream with whipped cream & a cherry. I had had a long day and was too tired to try to complain or ask for more fudge... I will probably go back because the ice cream is good but I will have to make sure they put a more generous helping of fudge in the fudge Sundae!! Hopefully I'll be able to leave a better review after the next visit.

Yelp
My experience was more like a 3.5 stars-- came with my family on a quiet Monday evening with high expectations considering I've had Egger's ice cream from other locations and always loved it. The ambiance is probably my favorite part about this location! It's in the heart of historic Richmond town, surrounded by old, historic homes and buildings. There's a lovely area of tables for seating outside with string lights running above. There are also benches along the street you can sit at. There are no indoor tables, it's a walk-up type of place where you order at a window and then move down to a register and pay. The ice cream also did not disappoint! It was absolutely delicious and fresh (the portions are HUGE, too). The whipped cream was so fresh too. Apparently it gets very crowded on the weekends, but we lucked out and only waited in line about 5 mins. After that, the service went completely downhill. We waited for our ice cream for almost 30 minutes, only to be told that two of the flavors that 3 of us ordered were no longer available. Though not the worker's direct fault, it's inconvenient and should've been handled in a better way. The girl took so long to fix the problem and came back and forth at least 4 times to double check what one of us ordered. In the end, she still messed up the order. I wanted to absolutely love this place, but I just couldn't because there are problems that need to be addressed still. In the end, I definitely would try to come back maybe when they've been open for a bit longer to enjoy my ice cream there at one of the tables.

Yelp
Really cute outdoor ice-cream parlor. Checked this place out last summer and it was def a go to place. Went back again tonight and it will def still be a go to for this summer. Ice-cream is great, the environment is aesthetically pleasing and its right in the center of historic richmond town so its really cool to explore that a bit while walking off the icecream lol. 10/10!

Yelp
I am very dissapointed with Eggers at Richmond town .i booked the Igloo experience a month ago to surprise my sin, niece and nephews as part of Christmas gift..An hour before my reservation they sent me an email cancelling due to power out. So I decided to go there to get my deposit back and there was so many people in Igloos eating ice cream with lights on!! They lied to me and a bunch of others. They overbooked and couldn't handle it!!! I would never go again. They made my son upset to see others their but we couldnt go! Shame on them!!!

Yelp
I've had friends rave about this place but I don't get the hype. Ralph's is so much better.

Travis D.

Yelp
Great ice cream... can't say much more it lived up to expectations. One scoop was more like 5 scoops. Going to get a kids size next time lol. Highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be going back.

JF J.

Yelp
Adorable little ice cream shop in Richmond Hill. Decided to come on a Thursday as they have food trucks and some activities for kids. Nice outdoor seating, some local vendors....Overall great service, vegan ice cream was delicious, and had a catfish po-boy for dinner which was great. Will definitely be back.

Desmond S.

Yelp
Very nice ice cream. Large variety of flavors and toppings. The staff is very pleasant. They make you feel welcome. The place can be very busy which will give you an idea how popular it is. Despite how busy it can be, the service is very good. Our order arrived within a few short minutes.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Such a lovely little ice cream shop with delicious flavors, a nice spacious outdoor seating area with a lively atmosphere, and great staff. We came on a Thursday night and enjoyed the food trucks for dinner, followed by some ice cream for dessert! Tried the vegan flavors and wasn't disappointed, the caramel swirl and chocolate fudge swirl still packed in all of the flavor, and the Reese's pieces on top were the perfect way to end the night. I would suggest coming on a Thursday night, grab some ice cream, catch up on other friends, check out the food trucks and listen to some music. Definitely check it out if you're in Staten Island!

Trump2020 T.

Yelp
Well ice cream sounded like a good idea. Seemed a little slow, ok I get 2 people that I could see. One walking with some hand device talking about codes...... oh you look busy thanks for no consideration how about some acknowledgment.....I'll be right there or something. It's ok take my business somewhere else.......

Isabella T.

Yelp
I have one word for this ice cream place: Good. This place isn't anything special but has a tasty ice cream. I think that the best flavors are mint and pistachio, hands down. It does taste a little like the package ice cream at the grocery store. It has a nice selection of flavors. It also has a nice patio! I really recommend

Terri L.

Yelp
I just got home from the Winter Wonderland at Eggers Ice Cream parlor on Clarke Avenue and I was very disappointed. I was very excited about going after seeing how pretty the igloos looked lit up. First off, the hot chocolate which was served was lukewarm and the cup was only half filled. When my daughter booked the reservation they took her credit card and charged her $30. There was four of us in the party and our bill after taxes came out to $55. We assumed the $30 that was originally charged to her credit card would go towards the $55 bill. That was not the case. They had the nerve to tell her the $30 was a registration charge and had nothing to do with the bill. When she booked they never told her that. It is absolutely absurd and a gigantic rip off to charge $30 to sit in an igloo with a 45 minute time limit. This is definitely a case of buyer beware. Shame on you Eggers for ripping off the consumer!

Adriana F.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday night while the line was long. It was worth the wait. The ice cream was delicious and fresh. We got our order very quickly. I got the cookie sundae with vinello fudge ice cream ad it was out of this world. We went to the building across from edgers and sat and enjoyed our ice cream. It was worth the wait even tho the line is long.

Susan J.

Yelp
Hosted my daughters first birthday here yesterday, ya know during the July 20 2019 heat wave we received multiple warnings about. I wasn't sure what to expect because in addition to the heat my party would have more adults than children. All of my reservations disappeared when I met our party attendants. These young girls were so upbeat and personable despite the heat! They were attentive asking if there was anything they could get us specifically to combat the heat. We opted to do a sundae station which they promptly served so people could consume quickly and my daughter went to town on a personalized cake. I've always loved the ice cream but I must say the attention to detail I received during my party is really what makes this review 5 stars. Because most of the kids attending were younger than 2 we opted for more of a free play feel and the kids really enjoyed playing with bubbles, hula hoops, coloring and just running around. And because of the heat the owner offered to try and setup a hose for the kids, and I had a sprinkler in my car. Next thing you know the kids are drenched and laughing, and I am using them as an excuse to go in the sprinkler to cool down. They dried off before having to get in the car to go home and this small touch made it obvious that the staff was working their tails off to combat the weather they couldn't control. Thanks to the whole team at eggers for making my girls birthday a success. And here's a picture for proof she enjoyed her cake! Wasn't sure what kind of pictures we would get since we didn't have a "smash cake" turns out an ice cream cake makes even bigger messes and funnier pictures!

J L.

Yelp
If i could give this place no stars i would. Service window has the slowest employees ive ever seen nd they ignore you as if you arent standing there. Icecream wasnt good. Store bought ice cream is 10x better than what i just had. Rip off as well. And i stood there waiting 5 mins to ask for a lid before I finally just didnt want to wait anymore so i left and threw this shitty icecream out

Yelp
A delightful old-fashioned ice cream shop. The perfect place to stop on a hot summer day. When I moved from Staten Island, I made sure to come by for one last ice cream on my last night in town.

Yelp
Service is HORRIBLE .. wait on a small line for a hour .. all the servers wait on tables and one person at the window waiting on line of customers that wind up walking away and leaving .. don't waste your time here unless you feel like waiting almost a hour to get ice cream ...
