Where to Find Fantastic Asian Snacks in San Francisco | Eater SF

"The name is self-explanatory — this is where to get eggettes, or egg-shaped egg waffles, in San Francisco. A popular joint in the Outer Sunset for tapioca drinks and the Hong Kong street food staple, this spot serves up egg waffles that are crispy and always hot, since they’re made-to-order. Snag them in original, chocolate, honeydew, and coconut flavors. Cash only." - Ellen Fort

Google
Eggettes has some alright Boba. They don’t have oat milk, only soy or cow’s milk. Their boba is the clear crystal style. I definitely want to come back and try the desserts.

Google
I've been here more times than I would have expected and that's a good thing. For a place whose namesake is a bulbous waffle, they do quite fine for themselves, selling late night staples at the right prices. Here, a milk tea (and move away you tea elitists) for $2.75, fresh fruit slushes for just a dollar more, and a variety of snacks all on the cheap, including noodle rolls, maw maw, and fish balls. It can get crowded here and darn you Sunset for not having nearby parks, so I guess you can take it to the beach.

Sisi Chen

Google
Strolled over for some milk tea with boba and coconut eggettes. It is literally a hole in the wall kind of place. No dine in (yet) and all staff are masked. You order at the door and they take credit card (no minimum). Solid milk tea and perfectly chewy boba. I got the regular size, 50% sweet and less ice. It is definitely on the sweeter side but not a deal breaker. The eggettes are really good and it is bigger than my face (definitely shareable). Coconut flavor was subtle so would probably try their original next time.

Google
It can be hard to find 肠粉 (rice rolls) in the US. This is the Hong Kong version, which are rolled up with peanut, sesame and soy sauce on top. It was really good, and definitely exciting to find in a boba place. Curry fish balls were really tasty. Had a very authentic curry flavor. Lady at the counter was very warm and friendly, patient with explaining different menu items. The almond flavored drinks taste really good. It’s not like almond milk where it’s meant to just have a neutral flavor and be a milk substitute. Here the almond flavor is celebrated in the drink, and the natural sweetness of almond comes out very nicely. If you like almond, I highly recommend trying one of these drinks. They also comped us free imitation fin soup. I grew up not eating pork and am usually not a fan of pork (there’s some in the soup broth), but it was really good.

Google
Good selection of bubble / boba tea. The eggettes are a waffle/pancake like dessert. Tastes great! Very noisy inside, with night club like music.

Google
Fast and efficient service! Great drinks and food!! Get your snack fix here!!

Google
Best eggets 鸡蛋仔 this side of the ocean. Worth the trip for this alone. Slightly crisp outside, chewy inside. Perfection! Fin soup hits hard too. Add the white pepper.

Google
I love this place! They opened up the shop again and you can dine in now. Drink🧋recommendation! Get the malt milk tea. It’s basically HK milk tea but the I think it’s better. It’s smoother in taste and it’s the perfect sugar level. You just have to order the drink and not worry about the ice or sugar level :) HK street food recommendations: 1. Curry Fish Balls - the sauce is great but it can be a bit salty if you’re not used to it. 2. Rice Rolls!!! My personal favorite because of the sauces, you can eat the fish balls with it and it’s delicious and usually how it’s done in HK. Beware if you’re allergic to peanuts 🥜!!! 3. Siu Mai - this is the microwaveable one that you can get in the store but it’s very much the same kind you’d get in HK. Again, eat with the rice roll sauces. All three of these are stables in HK street food. Mix the three of them together or enjoy separately. Last but not least, their Eggettes! We like the original but their chocolate is tasty too 😋 it’s crunchy even when cold and their core is soft and fluffy like how it should be! The flavor is great, and the sugar level is just right.

Yelp
I used to hit up Eggettes all the time back in the day. Their Eggettes were really good. Swung by again recently and... they're good, just not as flavorful or fragrant as I remember. Maybe my nostalgia goggles are strong, maybe the recipe shifted a hair. Either way, they're still perfectly crispy-outside / fluffy-inside, just missing that extra oomph. On the bright side, the lychee milk tea still really good. Nicely balanced, not too sweet, and loaded with real lychee flavor.

Yelp
Haven't been here for a long time and was in the area and wanted snacks so we stopped by. Here's what we ordered: Lavender milk tea - (3.5/5) very strong, not sweet enough Eggette -(3.5/5) very crispy but again, not sweet at all. Rice roll (4/5) lots of sauce , very yummy! It took a while to get eggette since one machine was broken but we were told ahead of time so we didn't mind. Service was good. The store was small and lots of people already seated. We had the food to-go, so it's ok. I'd give it a 3.5 and rounded up to a 4. Would come back to try other stuff next time!

Yelp
Crazy that I'm reviewing my childhood snack shop, but how can I not. Nostalgia aside, Eggettes has the best milk tea and mango freeze compared to other boba shops. I love the bitterness of the tea with their sweet boba. To owner: Thank you for keeping relatively low prices and not changing your drink recipes! Also bring back the honeydew eggette more often please
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming to Eggettes for so long and never did a review yet for this place. This is my go to place for boba drink and snacks even though there is a boba place half a block from my house. I love their polite, quick and efficient service. Their drinks and toppings, eggettes, imitation fin soup, dumpling, their weekend dessert special are all delicious. The place is cozy and tidy clean. Plenty of free parking on the streets. what tops the cake is their owner (?), a gentleman who is always so nice to his customers. Today he went above and beyond for me. Even offer to help me carry my tray of drinks and food to my car (not knowing where I parked too!!). people like him is what makes me what to keep coming back and recommending this yummy place to others. Thank you kind gentleman and I appreciate your sentiment!

Yelp
I love this spot! The chocolate chip eggette is good! I love their smoothies, teas, and coffees all equally. The vending machines inside are cute too! It's great coming on the non-busy times so you get your items right away to enjoy!

Yelp
I really like their Hong Kong-style milk tea, though I can't speak to the boba since I prefer mine without. The egg puffs, or gai daan jai, taste very eggy. I wish they were a touch sweeter and slightly chewier on the inside. Still tasty though, and I'd come back for their milk tea and other egg puff flavors.

Yelp
Growing up in the Outer Sunset, this chunk of Noriega has been frequented by me since my middle school days. I recently went back and it brought back all the memories! Last time I came here, I got a green milk tea with boba and the boba wasn't good at all! The boba was super soft and didn't have that sugary flavor. This time I ordered a fruit tea and let me say, it'll be what I get every time! It didn't taste artificial at all and the lychee jelly it came with was just the perfect amount of chewiness and sweetness. I feel like their fruit tea is so so much better and next time I definitely want to try their fruit slush! 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Hurray, the world is healing. The pandemic caused "Eggettes" to close early and be take-out only, but on my recent visit they've opened up their shop for dine in. They even have a claw machine, gachas, and a cotton candy machine now too. I'm always on the lookout for their honeydew eggette, but the original is a good alternative as well. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and I swear it just gets chewier and tastier as it cools. Their drinks are also decent, freezes or frappes are always trustworthy. Their rice rolls drenched in peanut sauce and hoisin sauce was also better than popular ones I've tried in New York. A very unassuming place that does everything well.

Yelp
We came on a Tuesday afternoon around 3pm and there was no wait. The service was quick and they busted out drinks even faster This place has been around for years and has always been a sunset district staple for kids growing up. Always friendly faces in this establishment and I can always know what to expect. The egg puffs and food are good quality and the drinks are solid as well. In the fruit drinks, they'll use real fruit chunks which is always a refreshing taste. Though as I've gotten older and wiser, I realize these drinks are rather "okay". Always have a special place in this little boys heart
google avatar

Claudine R.

Yelp
This spot had a good standard menu of boba drinks. I wish I lived in the neighborhood to come and visit more often. It feels very authentic when it comes to flavors and drinks. The service was kind and quick. The boba was good and tasty. I ordered an Almond Milk Tea with 75% sweetener and it was exactly what I wanted. Almond milk tea isn't always at boba spots and they sometimes don't get it right. But I was so happy to get a solid Almond Milk Tea.
google avatar

Krist W.

Yelp
Good eggpuffs. My kids and I enjoy them. The shop is clean and there are a few toy machines in the shop. Haven't tried the bobas tho.
google avatar

Tien N.

Yelp
I dropped by the place out of convenience because other boba shops would open later. The boba was okay. The flavor was okay. Nothing stood out. It wasn't bad nor good. Probably won't come back again because we hope to get better tea flavor.

Zha Y.

Yelp
number 30, passion fruit green tea is bad, it wasn't made by real fruit. My stomach hurts after drinking it.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
I've been coming to eggettes for years, always getting their honey lemon green tea with boba. Overall I would say they are pretty consistent with perfectly chewy boba and the right honey sweetness to offset the sour lemon. They even have the good ice! It's a small interior with some toy machines, and they can get busy on the weekends and after school hours, but the service is pretty good. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Daisy G.

Yelp
Eggettes is a childhood nostalgia that I love coming to every time I come back home. All their foods are always so fresh and delicious! My go to drink here is the lavender milk tea w boba and lychee milk tea with lychee jelly! Their slushies, milk tea, and Thai tea were my go to when I was younger. The only things that changed is that they took out one of the eggettes flavor and added chocolate chip and sesame! They also have a cotton candy machine in the back that replaced my childhood toy coin machines where I got all my Winnie the Pooh keychains lol
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
mid quality but it:s not terrible - i got the sesame eggette (which is basically a waffle shaped as bubbles/"eggs"). it wasn't even filled with sesame paste or a filling of some kind - it was baked directly into the batter which was fine but the flavor was barely noticeable. the bathroom was clean tho so that's nice
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Always my family's go-to for eggettes and a drink. Their eggettes are lightly sweet, chewy, and crispy. I always order the honey green tea with tapioca. It taste similar to a longan green tea 10/10. We also get the milk tea every time and it always hits the mark10/10
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Been around sf for the longest time. I use to come here as a kid and their smoothies are made with real fruits ! The eggettes are super crispy outside and delicious inside. It is made to order so it will take a while but you will know it comes fresh. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. $6 for eggettes and drinks around $5-7 range ! I myslef like the lychee green tea with boba since they have little bites of lychee inside
google avatar

Clarissa P.

Yelp
I have been coming here ever since I was little! I love this place. The workers are always super friendly. Last time we came here, we ordered a 3 egg puffs and 4 drinks. The older gentleman working threw in some free curry balls. The snacks here are all really good, but the best thing is obviously the egg puffs! I have yet to find another place that sells egg puffs that taste as good as Eggettes. I will say their drinks are just okay, but I do still enjoy them. They also have a cool automated cotton candy machine my nephew loves!
google avatar

Samantha D.

Yelp
Dropped by on a Tuesday afternoon around 2pm. There was no line. A classic place to get milk tea or egg puffs. The lychee milk tea at less sweet with boba hits the spot for me whenever I want something sweeter than the normal milk tea. It's pretty consistent and has a good tea flavor. I love that there are lychee bits in it. Boba is only okay, could be chewier. They haven't opened indoor dining yet, so expect to take your food and drinks to go.
google avatar

Adela T.

Yelp
I have been trying to find the best milk tea in the Bay and I think I found it here at EGGETTES! It's so good and the best Hong Kong milk tea I could find!
google avatar

Truman C.

Yelp
The line usually moves very fast if there is one when I come. The three times I've been here in the past year though, my milk tea has tasted very diluted. I do like their eggettes flavor options, and my friend likes their imitation fin soup.
google avatar

Brianna J.

Yelp
Such a nostalgic spot from childhood! Love getting any of the freezes here, specifically my favorites are strawberry and mango. Their eggettes are also perfectly cooked and are crispy on the outside. Another plus is the other snacks they have that includes steamed rice rolls, imitation fin soup, curry fish balls and more. Pretty quick service when I went on Friday afternoon and affordable prices.
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
Happy to find this milk tea/snack shop on our walk around the neighborhood! I ordered the coconut milk tea and asked for 50% sweet. It was perfect. Flavor came through. I also ordered a chocolate chip eggette. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. There were enough chips for there to be a nice sweet flavor but not overly sweet. Service was quick. This is my new go to drink/snack place the next time I am in the area.
google avatar

Shelton F.

Yelp
Not a bad place for bubble tea and a snack. The only reason I take off a star is because of the cramped space and it is more a a take out place but the taste and quality and service is fine. I enjoy the plain eggettes and the fin soup and goto drink is the malt milk tea or thai tea with boba.
google avatar

Naomi C.

Yelp
I've been to this eggettes since I was in middle school, coming down for a special treat on Sundays. And every time I would go get the Strawberry Freeze and until I got over my fear of boba (I know, I used to not like it!), I began ordering their boba. Basically what I'm saying is that this was my childhood boba place. NOW with that being said, it's objectively MID. Back when I was young and didn't know any better because I wasn't exposed to other places and my taste buds were bland, this was my heaven. But now that I'm older than 19 and can make my own decision, eggettes is nothing more than an after school treat. I wouldn't go out of my way to drive here to eat eggettes but if I lived in the area, SURE! I'd have some! What I'm saying is that it's no Costco. It's a 7/11. Now most recently I had the peach green tea and usually I like these. But here I didn't because they had peach bits which in the beginning, I thought they gave my free lychee jelly but I was dead wrong. I couldn't taste much peach green tea because I was too busy not enjoying the bits. I think they tasted like canned peaches from Costco but don't get me wrong. I don't hate canned peaches. I used to eat them as full meals for college. I love them. But not here. No. They don't belong here.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
Really yummy! Fast service too. The establishment still isn't open to indoor dining, so it's just a stand that you walk up to. I didn't mind it much, but the kid I was with really wanted to try the gigantic claw machine they had inside. Anyway, I ordered a honeydew green tea with lychee jelly and it was delicious! A tad on the sweet side. Didn't see if they offered any other levels of sweetness like other places do. They're toppings are pretty limited, as I was looking for almond jelly and the kid was looking for popping boba. I'll likely be back to try other flavors.
google avatar

Kim F.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood business that has always turned out perfectly crispy and chewy eggettes in tasty flavors. The various drinks they also serve have always been very delicious and the perfect accompaniment to the eggettes, and I also don't feel too guilty in having either of both . Will always come here to get a much needed snack attack resolution!
google avatar

Tom C.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Eggettes since day one. My go to used to be lychee milk tea but now it's lychee fruit tea. I do appreciate the real fruit bits they have in their drinks and being able to adjust how sweet it is. The eggettes are worth trying as well. Cantalope flavor is my favorite but they have that either on certain days or every other days (can never figure it out). Just be sure not to go there from 3:40 - 5pm weekdays as it is close to a middle school.
google avatar

Calcifer L.

Yelp
I've searched far and wide but this is by far the best cafe that serves imitation shark fin soup. The soup base, the amount of sesame oil added to it, really brings to mind the imitation shark fin I had when I visited Hong Kong. And since Eggettes opened decades ago, this taste has stayed true and consistent, thank you for preserving this taste! A few other notable items to mention is the rice rolls (soft and gooey) and with the sauce you would usually find in HK: sesame sauce and the complementary soy sauce (don't pour too much, it does really get too salty when you mix it with the sesame sauce) and of course, the eggettes themselves! It stays nice and crunchy on the outside while it's soft and warm inside, don't miss out on this!
google avatar

Tasha D.

Yelp
Cute little cafe with "eggettes," which are kind of like light waffles with different tasty batters. I got chocolate chip and they were great! Very light and fluffy, like a warm waffle cone. I also had a lychee green tea with tapioca, which was great.
google avatar

Azaryan M.

Yelp
eggettes is literally so good go get some I usually like to get passion fruit with boba and the original eggettes. The chocolate ones are also delectable.
google avatar

LattesAnd10k I.

Yelp
Love the coconut milk tea and Eggettes are yummy! Boba is always has a nice chew and taste fresh. The eggettes always smell so good who could resist not ordering. I always end up getting them and never disappointed.
google avatar

Sofia R.

Yelp
Eggettes crossed my mind as soon as I found myself in the Sunset and around the area. There was a bit of a line, but I ordered a Chocolate Egg Puff, Sesame Egg Puff, and Curried Fish Balls to share. The egg puffs were great! Crisp edges, puffy and chewy middles, a hint of flavor. The crisp disappeared the longer they sat, as expected. The Fishballs were good, I was worried that the curry sauce would be salty but everything was just right. Overall, great experience and as expected. Simple, no frills snack/street food.
google avatar

Mystery M.

Yelp
This is the second Eggettes location I have been too. Boy, this place wasn't as easy to find, as they don't have store front signage. There was a line forming up when we arrived, so there was a wait to order and then another wait to pick up our freshly made Eggettes and boba drinks. The boba drinks, I would skip, they aren't anything special or spectacular, just average I would say. Got the Regular Milk Tea with Boba and Yogurt Green Tea with Rainbow Jelly, both mediocre. The Eggettes are great, fresh, warm and tasty! When I went, they only had 3 flavors to choose from, original, chocolate and honeydew. Got the chocolate and honeydew flavored Eggettes. They were both delicious and you can tell the batter is fresh! Not sure why they ask you how you want to receive your receipt (either via email, text or printed out) because I selected print, but they took the receipt themselves? Had to ask for one once I picked up my order... Would definitely recommend trying this place if you like Hong Kong Style Egg Puffs! :)
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
My go to boba spot since middle school! Brings back so many memories and I always have to stop by when visiting home (: They still don't have indoor dining due to Covid. Honey green tea or jasmine milk green team with boba and less ice are my go- tos. Fishballs and eggettes are a must as well. Honeydew is a personal fav but chocolate and original are also both delicious!
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
Eggettes is the only place I get "egg puffs"/"egg waffles" or whatever you like to call them. I call them eggettes. During Covid, indoor dining and ordering is not available. Ordering is done at door which has been converted to an ordering window and the line/waiting area is out front. Polly Ann's next door does have some tables set up for outdoor dining. Eggettes from this location may not be as airy as ones on the street in Hong Kong, but the original batter is comparable in flavor (sweet eggy flavor without any baking powder/soda bitterness or yeast flavors). They make the eggettes to order so the edges are toasty and crunchy while the "puffs" are soft and chewy. Best enjoyed hot, but still yummy when cold, and even more chewy. Quick service, but they're also pretty popular so there may be a wait to receive your order. I've tried calling ahead to order and it was really quick - they stay true to the expected arrival time you give them (ready before I got there, sadly resulted in eggettes cooling down a bit but still good!)
google avatar

Fiona H.

Yelp
They are a hole in the wall restaurant in a residential neighborhood. Very authentic typical snacks you find in China/Hong Kong. Their boba is very delicious! It's not too sweet and they used real lychee in there. You need to park in the local neighborhood, typically not very easy to find parking. Does not have dine in available. If you think the line is gonna be long, I would recommend calling ahead of time so you can double park, hop out and grab your order when it's ready.
google avatar

Ju D.

Yelp
Quick service friendly staff. Clean space. Eggette is made good quality. Drinks are okay.
google avatar

Diane T.

Yelp
Eggettes has been my go to Boba place in the outer sunset since my middle school days. Although other fancier, more "innovative" ideas have sprung up over the years, eggettes have remained true to their drinks and wonderful delights. As a neighborhood staple, you can grab a warm, freshly made fluffy eggette snack and deliciously tapioca milk tea without fail. While prices for some boba drinks these day sore high, prices here remains fair. The tapioca balls here are soft and pillowy not to sweet and overly chewy. Overall, a nice place to visit, no frills For the perfect take out snack.

Jovan M.

Yelp
There Eggettes are so good. They really do live up to there name . I ordered 1 original egget and 1 chocolate one. It took around 4 minutes to make so service was quick. The environment was very friendly they have cotton candy machine and also claw machines.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
The best place for a quick snack and drink. Can't gush enough about the great service, food and drinks, and location. My family and I were looking for an afternoon snack to hold us over for dinner, and Eggettes was the perfect spot. After smelling all the amazing food, we couldn't help ourselves and order 2 of all of the food options. My favorites were the shark fin soup and the chocolate eggettes. The shark fin soup had an amazing broth, and the mushrooms were super tender and juicy. The chocolate eggettes were perfectly cooked with the right amount of cake like filling. If you're torn on what to order for a drink (sooo much awesomeness to choose from), I'd recommend the matcha freeze. If you're a matcha fan, don't even look at the rest of the menu. This matcha slushee (make sure you add boba) is the absolute best.
google avatar

Angela Y.

Yelp
Their eggettes are the best! They're crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I've been to places where their eggettes are just like waffles, and I don't like those at all. The original flavor here is my favorite but they also have chocolate and coconut. The drinks here are also really good. On normal days I usually get the regular milk tea with boba. The tea flavor really stands out, which I prefer when I get milk teas. The price is also on the lower side compared to all the hipster places. When it's hot, I prefer getting the strawberry freeze. Super refreshing! I'm also a fan of their "shark fin" soup. It's just comfort food to me. And yes, the shark fin is fake!
google avatar

Cecily I.

Yelp
My family I really enjoy coming here for a quick treat! I highly recommend their eggettes hence the name! My person favorite flavor is melon but my kid loves chocolate so she always gets chocolate. FYI the flavors change daily between melon and coconut but original and chocolate are constant. As far as their drinks go my kid and I love their mint chocolate freeze. And my hubby really like the jasmine milk tea and almond Thai tea. **During COVID you can call in your order ahead of time and you can walk up and you don't have to wait!!!

Jeff L.

Yelp
This place is great. You can mix your slushie flavors. The eggettes are always crunchy, never soggy. I need to try a siu mai.
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Had the best lychee green tea drink ever! And the honeydew eggettes also just hit home!

Yelp
HONEYDEW EGGETTES WHERE YA AT?? Why is it that everytime I visit, honeydew flavor eggettes aren't available?! waaah!! I came here with a friend on a Monday evening 5pm-ish. There was HELLA parking outside and barely anyone inside. A couple kids and their parents came trickling in here and there to order boba/eggettes, then leaving. So I ordered a milk tea with boba and coconut flavored eggettes since they weren't serving the honeydew that day. The eggettes came out fresh and hot but lacked a strong coconut flavor. Come to think of it, I don't think I tasted any coconut at all except like two or three pieces. I still enjoyed my eggettes though because they were really fresh and satisfied my craving at that time. Honeydew flavor is the best, for sure. Hopefully when I visit next time honeydew is an option! The milk tea boba wasn't anything special, I think their other drinks are better but tend to be super sweet. I recommend reducing the sugar level if you're not a fan of overly sweet boba drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely HATE wasting food, because I'm that friend who nags others about finishing their food to the last bite, the last drop, "think about the starving children in the world!!", etc. etc. But wtf Eggettes, you got me, because I think this is the first time I've thrown an order away. Chocolate eggette: The edges are cut sloppily and the center is mushy like an undercooked pancake. I'm used to egg waffles being moist or chewy, but this is just plain doughy. The chocolate flavoring tastes like diluted, cheap hot cocoa. After pulling apart a piece, there was LINT in the egg waffle, like a long, gray piece of lint. Whyyyyy Toffee milk tea: I got this with no ice and less sweet, which was still sugary af. The first thing I noticed was the overcooked boba... Super gooey and unappetizing. The light toffee flavoring initially goes well with the milk tea, but later leaves this fructose aftertaste. I'm no stranger to syrups and powders in milk teas, but this has that weird plastic flavor that screams artificial. The workers here were friendly but inattentive... Trash on the tables and floor, and all they did was text, talk to each other, or space out. It's unacceptably dirty indoors-- floor is grimy/sticky and the walls have drink splatters. Just overall really gross, I won't be back.

Yelp
I honestly find Eggettes to be very decent! It is not the best upon all the other boba shops that dominate SF, but it satisifes my cravings and my wallet haha. I really love how the menu for drinks and snacks is very simple and straight forward. There are a few options for both menus and I feel like thats helpful because it gets very overwhelming when there are so many choices on the menu, you do not know what the heck to get anymore. I love the egg puffs of course, hence the name of the store haha. So soft and fluffy, has a perfect chew. I have tried the Taro Milk Tea, I love how they use taro chunks!! There are a good amount of chairs to sit down whether by yourself, with one other person, or a group of friends! Metered/Residential parking is very successful around this area!
