An Egg-Everything Indian Street Food Joint Hatches in D.C. This Fall | Eater DC

"Opening in Dupont in October at 1990 M Street NW, I’m looking forward to the Chicago-born Eggholic bringing an all-day egg fix with tentative hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (and weekends until midnight). Founded by cousins Bhagyesh and Lay Patel, who draw on egg-based street-cart dishes from Ahmedabad, its 50-item menu spans omelets, scrambles, curries, burritos, biryanis, rice dishes, roti wraps, and double-decker sandwiches. The best-selling surti gotalo plate tops two sunny-side-up eggs on a rich red egg curry cooked with butter, ginger, tomato, chiles, and shredded eggs, and the acclaimed Anda Masala grilled sandwich layers chopped egg with masala, cubed cucumber and bell peppers, and American cheese. Dinnertime specialties include a mint-infused rice entree with egg, mustard seeds, and curry leaves; there are vegetarian, paneer, and halal chicken options, plus chais and nutty lassis to drink. Since launching in 2018 the cult chain has grown to nine U.S. locations (a local edition opened in Chantilly last year), and each spot features sunny design touches — bright yellow ceilings, sleek woods, white metal chairs — with playful menu riffs on movie quotes written in Indian languages; Eggholic’s yolky element promises to bring something new to D.C.’s fast-casual Indian street-food scene." - Tierney Plumb

I would’ve never guessed to order egg curry, but was amazingly delicious! The owner overheard us talking about my husband‘s birthday tomorrow, and he came to our table and provided him a beautiful dessert. That was also delicious! Highly recommend the Chicken Kadai, Malai Tikka, and Mango Lassi. Definitely coming back!

Stopped by for some chaat. Had the dahi puri which was essentially the puri with sauce and barely any filling. Some puris had no filling at all. The menu describes potatoes and chick peas as filling. Maybe this is just the way they make it here, but not really for me then. The atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant was great.

Stopped by for lunch today and wow, what a uniquely egg-centric restaurant with some very creative dishes in all forms. They have dishes featuring egg, vegetarian dishes, and some chicken dishes. We tried the following: Anda Masala - grilled cheese egg sandwich with cheese and spicy, flavorful veggies - Heaven! Superb taste. A must try. Paneer Pulav - seasoned biryani-like rice with cheese and rice gravy mixed in. Delicious. Another recommended try. Chicken Butter Masala - probably the only thing you can find easily at other places. This was good, especially the spicy, robust sauce, but I enjoyed the other dishes more. Service was very friendly and fast, great experience. Definitely check it out!

Came for some curry, was slightly disappointed. I ordered some kind of chicken curry, I think it was chicken tikka masala, but I dont remember anymore. And for some reason it cost $20?? All the other prices were reasonable, but all of the curry prices were inflated to unbelievable amounts compared to the rest of the menu. I still got it anyway, there wasn’t any other option. The person I was with got some sandwiches which costed around 8 dollars, and they tasted amazing. After a while our food got delivered, and I eagerly bit into my curry, and was disappointed. $20 spent on mediocrity. It just wasn’t flavorful enough, and the chicken tasted like soggy bread. The sauce to vegetable ratio was off, there were too many crunchy veggies in my curry. Look, I’m no vegetable hater or whatever, but curry is supposed to be a smooth sauce. And this just wasn’t. So yeah, get anything else except for the overpriced curry.

Ordered pav bhaji and paneer butter masala with breads for the dinner, the pav bhaji tastes really delicious but very very oily, similarly paneer butter masala came very oily too with too much masala.. wondering if it was made in butter or oil only. I’d recommend to try other dishes at this place if too much oil is your concern. I might try their sandwiches next time.

Authentic Indian street food. Fantastic place with the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The menu includes plenty of vegetarian and vegan options with 3 spice levels. The staff was friendly and helpful as I did not know all of the words in the menu - they explained me these ingredients and also provided the recommendations. Highly recommend, and will be back again.
