How Eggholic Is Redefining Indian Fast Food in America | Eater

"Founded in 2019 by cousins Bhagyesh and Lay Patel, this fast-growing, Gujarat-focused, egg-centric restaurant chain doesn’t serve breakfast (it opens at 11 a.m.) but instead specializes exclusively in Gujarati egg recipes—egg bhurji; lachko (soft-cooked eggs in a vibrant green chili gravy); masala egg kheema; bread omelets; cheese katori; lava pulav; and surti gotalo—often unapologetically spicy and richly spiced. The menu is intentionally tailored to South Asian palates (many locations are placed in suburbs with dense Indian populations such as Schaumburg, downtown Chicago, Sugarland, and Brampton), and the brand has added a robust egg-free vegetarian section to respect cultural dietary sensitivities. Customers will travel long distances for the food, and the founders have pursued rapid franchising: about 20 locations across the U.S. and Canada with a dozen more planned in 2024 and ambitions to grow to at least 50 outlets." - Khushbu Shah

Eggholic Chaat Place – A Mixed Experience Eggholic is a decent chaat place for a casual hangout, though the food can be hit or miss. The ambiance was good, making it a comfortable spot to sit and chat. If you’re stopping by, the Samosas and Tea are a safe bet. However, the chaats leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. But Tea wasn’t served in classic glass they advertise. The egg-based dishes weren’t the best, as some seemed undercooked, giving off a raw egg smell. Mango Masanti isn’t good (less nuts as toppings). Service was also a bit slow, which might be something to consider. That said, I did like the paper they serve the food on, as it added a nice touch to the presentation. The entrance faces west, and while I wouldn’t call it a must-visit, I’d recommend trying it yourself to see if it suits your taste. I may return to explore other dishes on the menu and see if they offer a better experience.

⸻ Subject: Feedback on Recent Order – Chicken Fry Piece Pulav Hi Team, I’m a regular customer of EggHolic and usually order the Lava Pulav, which I really enjoy. This time, I decided to try the Chicken Fry Piece Pulav, but I was quite disappointed with the portion I received. The quantity of rice and chicken pieces was very, very less compared to what I normally get, especially considering the price of $17.91 (including taxes). I would appreciate it if you could look into this and ensure better consistency in portion sizes going forward. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This was our first time here. We really enjoyed the food and the staff as nice. We had few veg items from the menu and it tasted really good. Would defiantly try to come back for more. They seem to be opening more locations and looks like a successful venture.

Eggholic is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. The restaurant is in good condition. Amazing Indian food. Must come back. 10/10.

Google
Eggholic is a good Indian Restaurant with a small variety of options to choose from. An important thingto note is that most of the chaat items they serve are premade and only heated before serving. For anyone visiting, I would definitely recommend you to try the Dabeli, it's delicious. The Masala Chai was also quite amazing and qt par with what is mostly served back in India. The Plain Egg Bhurji was also tasty. I would not recommend getting the Lava Tawa Pulav. It is a dish topped with too much cheese, and did nit taste good.

Upon entering the establishment, we were greeted by a charming and accommodating individual who took our order with genuine warmth. Placing our order at the counter, we opted for the Paneer Bhurji accompanied by bread, followed by the Amdavadi Touch sandwich. The Paneer Bhurji was an absolute delight, bursting with flavor and expertly cooked to perfection. Its savory aroma filled the air, enticing our taste buds with every bite. Paired with freshly baked bread, it offered a satisfying balance of textures and tastes that left us craving for more. Next up was the Amdavadi Touch sandwich, which arrived accompanied by a packet of Lays and ketchup. While not as standout as the Paneer Bhurji, the sandwich still managed to impress with its delicious filling and well-balanced flavors. The addition of the crunchy Lays chips added a delightful twist to the meal, making for a satisfying and enjoyable dining experience. To wash down our delectable meal, we indulged in the Mango Lassi, which proved to be a true highlight of our culinary journey. Rich, creamy, and thick, it offered a refreshing burst of tropical flavor that perfectly complemented the spicy notes of the dishes we sampled. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the quality and taste of the food at this establishment. From the friendly service to the mouthwatering dishes, every aspect of our dining experience exceeded our expectations. Whether you're a fan of Indian street food or simply looking to satisfy your cravings for flavorful cuisine, this place is a definite must-try.

Delicious ! I never try this type of delicious egg dishes before. They reminded me Indian street food. We ordered Anda pulav and boil tikka was so fresh and delicious. Quantity was enough for two person. Staff is helpful and friendly. The wall inside the restaurant was attractive.

Street food is my jam! Plenty of parking but rolling up on a weekend can make for some busy times since it's in the same plaza as Patel Brothers. Tried the Chicken Masala sandwich with the mango lassi and really enjoyed them! The sandwich was served with some packages of ketchup and it added a nice tangy acidity to the sandwich. I enjoyed the crisp bread and the veggie fillings as well. Also ordered the samosa chaat and surti gotalo. Both had a nice portion. I enjoyed the samosa chaat with all the different veggies on top. The surti gotalo I ordered with roti…overall was just ok for me, I enjoyed the fried eggs on top, the shredded/chopped hard boiled eggs were subtle in flavor compared to the other items I tried. I like that they’re open late and have a number of tables and booths to dine in.

Yelp
As an Indian, I have high standards for good Indian food. Eggholic hits the cravings every single time. Whenever I'm craving street food, this is my go to place. The samosa chat and bhel are my absolute favorites. They make it spicy per my request and it's delicious! They'll make it milder based on your preferences. The sandwiches - the samosa and paneer - are my favorite! My husband also loves the chicken sandwiches and chicken 65. Definitely one of our regular spots, 10/10 worth the try!! Have tried all of their locations and it hits the spot every time!

Yelp
Eggholic is good and maybe one of my favorite Indian street food restaurants. Their surti gotalo is sooo good, and it takes me several meals to finish one order. Remember to order extra rotis since it only comes with two and you need probably six to finish it! The desi omelette is average and just a typical omeltte. The green boiled fry is very good, but quite spicy. The cheese katori is covered in way too much cheese for me, so it wasn't my favorite. Their corn masala sandwich is very good and good portion size for lunch. I love their mango lassi and might be one of the best ones I've had. I wasn't a fan of their sweet paan since it was overly fragrant with rose, but I know that's a me problem and other people prefer it that way. Lastly, their pani puri is very spicy, but tastes really good with the tamarind chutney.

Yelp
Plenty of options for both vegetarians and non vegetarians Clean place. Fast food place Sandwich was good but greasy food. Choose your spice level wisely because their food runs spicy

Yelp
I ordered two sandwiches with extra cheese. I paid for the extra cheese. Forget the extra, there wasn't even the usual amount! and one of them was the Veg "Cheese" Grill

Yelp
What a fantastic Indian eatery! From the food to the staff to the ambiance, I really enjoyed EggHolic. First off this place is like a little taste of India in the Chicago Burbs. There's parking right in front and the location itself is medium-sized with plenty of seating inside. It's decorated nicely with fun wording on the walls and bright yellow colors. It's counter service so you order at the front counter for takeout or dine-in. The chicken masala sandwich was flavorful, just the right amount of spicy, and delicious. It was my first Indian inspired sandwich ever and it did NOT disappoint. The mango lassi was creamy, thick, sweet, and mango-y. It was perfect for an accompanying drink or even as a dessert. Everything was reasonably priced and I was welcomed and helped by their friendly staff too. Truly no complaints here. I enjoyed EggHolic and definitely will be back!

Yelp
I went on Wed night after 8 pm. The cashier didn't greet me immediately, he seemed flustered and inexperienced because there were constant customers coming in. No problem. After he came back to the register, he seemed to be in a rush. The lack of good customer service, I had to deduct half a point. I got the chicken masala sandwich, chips, and mango lassi. I ordered this non spicy but it just had a small kick to it. That was fine with me. It had the same quality as the Niles location so that is a 5. I could honestly eat this every week because I love that savory taste with that extra kick. Mango lassi was delish. This is actually 4.5 for me, if the service was better then it would have been a perfect 5. This was located in a strip mall at the very end on the left side. Plenty of parking. Prices were very fair for the amount of food served.

Yelp
This was my first opportunity to try Indian Street Food. Located in a business Indian center,EggHolic offers fresh food creations of eggs cooked in different ways with a variety of sauces and spices. They also offer different types of sandwiches, rice and chaat. I had the chicken masala with a spicey chicken between a two layered grilled cheese sandwich with veggies. Just the right amount of spice and the bread was amazing ! Since my wife is Gluten free and they didn't have any options for her they suggested we try their homemade Samosa which was a crispy fried pastry puff filled with spices, potatoes and peas served with a sweet sauce. Very good. We both had a Mango Lassi which was not too sweet and had the consistency of a creamy yogurt drink. The interior is super clean and the staff is super friendly. I would like to go back and try some of their egg dishes with their unique blend of spices.

Yelp
We had a great experience at this new Indian fast-casual eatery! They were able to accommodate my requests to leave off the cheese and mayo (no dairy, no egg) when ordering the Amdavadi Toucb sandwich, and it was still just as delicious. It had a kick to it and was very flavorful with a generous amount of spice, which complemented the soft bread well. The employees were very friendly and welcoming and took the time to make sure the sauces with dairy and egg were removed for me! My sister thoroughly enjoyed the Mango Lassi and agreed it was very flavorful and tasty as well. The interior ambiance is large and spread out -- not cramped or crowded. The portions were also decent and the sandwich included a side of chips, which normally you won't find included elsewhere!

Yelp
When you first walk in you smell the yummy food and hear the most relaxing / calm music. We sat at a booth and grabbed a menu. I love that they have daily specials. I ordered the (Monday) Daily Special Samosa, Anda Masala 1/2 sandwich and potato chips, Paneer Bhurji entree, and it came with two pieces of white bread toasted. What a great deal for $12.99 My husband ordered the Kharati Chicken with Roti $14.99 The employees were very kind and the food was very delicious, I would eat here again for sure! Cannot wait to try their other specials.

Yelp
I thought this was a breakfast place. Was surprised to find out that it is an indian street food place. I ordered Chicken Tandoori but it was ok for me. I did like their other stuff which we dip Roti in. It was really good. I just dont know the name coz it wasnt my order lol. The good thing about the place is you can choose your spice level. I would definitely go back and try more food on the menu! Oh and the name says it all. Most menu items have egg in them. This is more of a self service, self clean, fast food concept type of place. Definitely worth a try! Happy Eating!

Yelp
They have a location downtown but never been in there had a picnic meal from here once before.... Was in the area for work and wanted a quick bite ordered the sandwich upon the employees recommendation. I had to pee and big mistake went to ladies bathroom, I think baby changing station hasn't been sanitized in days I could smell the stench through my mask ...ugh!! Nevertheless got my sandwich and chai to go. The guy in the counter seemed very distracted.... Anyways the best thing was the chai (masala tea)Made me feel good on a cold chicago day instantly. Sandwich was ok. Will I come back? Maybe not .... Only for the ginger masala tea which hit the spot.

Yelp
This is an interesting Indian place focussed around eggs ... they have a large variety of egg based dishes Indian style ..I have tried the gotala and lachko... both were very tasty and flavorful.

Yelp
Never coming back again. Order samosa, samosa chat, Pani puri & chai. None were good. The Pani puri was terrible and chai took almost 25 mins to prepare.

Yelp
The eggholic paneer masala sandwich is a 10/10. It's abundant in taste and flavor. I went here on a rainy day with my dad and it was perfect for those cold days. The store is clean and good vibes. It's a must try, and service was quick!

Yelp
Egg lovers - this is the place for you guys. Full of flavors and masala egg curries is what you will get to experience here. My personal favorite is Lachko. Don't worry if you don't eat eggs. Try the Paneer Cheese Masala and it won't disappoint you.

Yelp
I love to try different things, especially when it comes to different styles of food. I watched a video on YouTube rating this next restaurant. They said that this was a very delicious Indian food restaurant. EggHolic in schaumburg. The moment that you enter this area of Schaumburg where the restaurant is located. There is a strong smell of spices that takes you back to an Indian restaurant feel. There are multiple Indian eateries in this area. There is also a Patel brothers grocery store. I walked into EggHolic and the first thing that I noticed was how clean it was inside. There was one customer even when I walked in so it was fairly slow. I felt that this was good so I was able to look over the menu. I wanted to go to what everyone was raving about. The chicken masala sandwich. I also want to try some of their samosas. The sandwich was around $12. The samosas were between $4 and $5. I opted to get takeout in order to relax and fully give my honest opinion of the food. I sat in a booth as I waited for my food to be prepared. The music Playing over The speakers in the restaurant was Indian music. I found it unique that they had Bollywood posters down the hallway leading to the restrooms. It took about 15 minutes for my order to be complete. I grabbed the bag and went to go find a nice area close by to sit and relax and try out the food. I noticed that most of the menu was geared toward egg dishes. I would assume that most of the menu would have something to do with eggs simply from the name of the restaurant. I first try the samosas. They were ice cold. They were not heated properly. The inside tasted cold as if they came from a refrigerator or freezer. The flavor was not bad heavy on spices. I did like the dipping sauce that they provided. It was very spicy and tasty. The sandwich from the outside almost looked like a tuna fish sandwich. The texture was good. The bread was crunchy and toasted well. The inside was creamy. The flavor was not bad. It had heavy spices that had a unique flavor. I do not know if I would return to Eggholic. I definitely do like Indian food, but this was slightly subpar. The sandwich did come with a small bag of Lays potato chips. I feel though that the price was slightly high for what I received. I give a rating of 6 out of 10. I would say if you are in the area and really want an Indian food fix geared toward an egg-heavy menu go check this place out.

Eesha B.

Yelp
The food came quickly and everything was very flavorful, I was very impressed by their service and quality. The ambience of the restaurant was great and I had an amazing experience there!

Hari V.

Yelp
Their food is tasty and choice of egg dishes is good. I also liked their masala chai, which added a nice Indian touch to the beginning and ending. Ambience is ok.

Sean R.

Yelp
And now the spam has resumed -- two texts spams to my phone today alone. FUCK ENTIRELY OFF already and LEAVE ME ALONE. I keep telling you I'm not interested in your shitty e-marketing and you keep telling me "too bad we're gonna send it to you anyway." This is not a brilliant customer retention strategy.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Appreciate the decor/art. Service could be more inviting. I asked if they had khati rolls and he suggested some egg wraps but didn't go into much detail. Based on reviews I went with the chicken masala sandwich and it was very tasty. Didn't seem over powered with just masala flavor. I also had a masala Chas that was not poured to the top. I mean it was like 3/4 full but it was really good. Yes, the prices are a bit steep but I enjoy the offerings. By the way...the golden triangle boxes in the cooler are paan. I walked over next door to Honest or some other restaurant to grab one and noticed the same triangle box. Had I know they sold it at EggHolic I would've picked it up from there.
google avatar

M K.

Yelp
Food was very average. It was a warm day and the inside was warmer. The ice cream was probably bough from the store next door. and the prices were high as compared. And the drink machine has no ice . If you can drive to Devon street please drive there.

Anierudh

Yelp
Ordered dahi puri and bhel puri. The curd was stale, the bhelpuri was so cold that it was soggy and taken out of the fridge. The man at the counter argued that they were on top quality. Instead of eating that crap and getting food poisoning, I threw the stinking food and walked out of the disgusting place. Wont be going there again and encourage other to reconsider ordering certain chats if you are conscious of what you eat.

Sherene T.

Yelp
Heard about this place from a friend, so stopped in. Toofani curry was flavorful and just the right spiciness. Rotis that came with the curry were fresh and hot. Desi chai was good but a little overly spiced for my taste, but was still good. Inside was clean and well-kept. Would come back.

Yelp
I recently checked out this place for lunch for the first time. I liked it. It's a fast-casual, counter service restaurant that serves Indian style egg dishes. Their menu has a good variety and the prices are reasonable. Egg is the star of the menu as most of the dishes are eggs oriented. Their specialty is that they make various egg dishes with Indian spices and gravies (not all but in general). After scoping out their menu, I decided to go with something called, 'Surti Gotalo,' from their House Specials. Surti Gotalo (Surti refers to a city named Surat in Gujarat, India, and Gotalo loosely means a mess or a mix-up) is shredded hard boiled eggs mixed with sunny side up in their special house spices. It's served with a side of bread or Indian roti and red onions to garnish. I went with roti. You only get one roti. Anything more is an additional cost. The taste of the dish was pretty good. It was flavorful. It was akin to a comfort food dish. (I forgot to mention to them while ordering that if possible, make it spicy. I guess, I'll do that next time.) Egg-O-Holic is family friendly place that's good for lunch and dinner (but mostly lunch/ brunch, I would say). It was clean and relatively spacious for a small, strip shopping center restaurant. I would recommend checking this place out if you haven't before. It's definitely worth it.

Yelp
Food was awesome. Who knew egg with Indian food? Highly recommend you try. We ordered carryout and it did take awhile before it was ready but we ordered a ton of food.

Yelp
Cold chill day...hubby feeling stewy and I wanted to check out Eggoholic since we were in the area...so glad this place delivered! The surti gotalo hit the spot! He ended up getting a stack of extra roti to mop up everything on the plate. And that masala-grilled cheese sandwich the staff rec'd was really good! Hubby was supposed to take a bite but ended up robbing me a quarter! So I had to order a chicken masala wrap to fill the void...a bit pricey for how tiny it is, but man...this is the real deal! Reminded me of those Kati roll I had in some small NYC to-go place! So many intriguing items on the menu, so little stomach space

Yelp
Late night Fast food joint! We had the Paneer ghotala sandwich and the chicken sandwich, highlu recommend it! Didnt quite like the rajwadi lassi but was loaded with dryfruits. Quality and taste 5stars.

Christopher V.

Yelp
Nice spot open late-night and reminds me of the sandwiches my mom would make. Three layers of bread like a true Indian sandwich with 2 layers of spiced paneer masala between them. Comes with chips on the side too. This was honestly okay to split with another person as a quick and light meal. Will be back to try the other flavors.

Yelp
Sooooo good!!! The cheese katori and gotalo 2.0 are to die for!!!! The desi chai too! Can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
MY RATING: 2.5 ORDER TYPE: Dine-in MEAL: Dinner MY ORDER EXPERIENCE: I have been to Eggholic's Chicago location before, but I wanted to try this location as I was trying the egg related restaurants and reviews from my fellow Yelp elite on Yelp. We reached the restaurant by 1015PM, and the place was quiet, casual and there were already four people at the restaurant, and later the restaurant was almost full. The waiter did not seem enthusiastic and did not even try to add my order to the rewards. The place is popular for their egg varieties where the curries, sandwiches, and rice are made from Egg. It was an Egg hub. They have various locations in different states. Upon scanning through the menu, we ordered Paneer Masala Sandwich as our starter, Boil Tikka which is their Holic Special curry along with four rotis. After a while, we had arrived, and we were ready to dig in. First, I had the Paneer Masala Sandwich which was served with Ketchup. The taste was delicious and especially the masala in it was amazing and we were tempted to order more but we kept our dinner light. It had marinated paneer, veggies, and cheese. I enjoyed it until it was finished. Then, I had the Boil Tikka with roti and onions on the side. Personally, I did not like it much because the taste was unexplainable and was not very appealing. It was made from sliced boiled eggs, garlic, and chilies and the rotis were good. Later, we asked for more rotis for us to finish the curry, but they ran out of rotis. Then, the last touch was with a sweet pan which looked fresh and was a good mouth freshener. Moreover, it was good to know that they sell sweet pans as I do not know a lot of places that sell sweet pans. Overall, the food was alright with decent prices with a casual ambience. The food presentation was good too. If I ever go back, I will try their chaat, street food and other sandwiches only. PROS: They have a rewards program which one can sign up for.

Jduehfhdhs J.

Yelp
SO GOOD!!! I got one of their sandwiches and a couple appetizers, aswell as a yogurt drink they had... and let me tell you some of the best indian street food i've had! The service was awesome too! The guy and the counter was very nice and helpful. would definitely recommend coming here!!!
google avatar

Devanshi S.

Yelp
The amdavadi touch sandwich is really good!! Comes with chips and ketchup! They fill it up a good amount and overall the taste is perfect! The masala half fry was very oily to the point that we couldn't finish it because it. The taste is really good though. I did appreciate that they gave chapati with it!

Jen J.

Yelp
What a surprise! I had no expectations going in to Eggholic but I will say that I absolutely enjoyed my experience there! I had the chicken masala sandwich and it was perfectly seasoned and had a kick to it. It was very flavorful and the bread was toasted to perfection. Hubby had the samosa chaat, he said it was good but the samosa itself tasted stale. We do plan to go back to the chaat again when its close to lunch time. We came in the evening so maybe that was why the samosa wasn't as good. He did say the chaat tasted good and has potential. The drinks were delicious as well, it wasn't overly sweet

Yelp
Just waiting for my food to be ready and inside the kitchen throughly the little window, I noticed the lady itching her foot for a good 2 min in the kitchen disgusting. Literally stood there and recorded a video of her doing that. Literally after that she stood up and started making someone's sandwich no GLOVES even!!! I have a full video just couldn't upload it to this review!!!

Yelp
If you're looking for street food, this place is it. It has great quality of sandwiches which are freshly made. There is so many options you can choose from. Also, the was very friendly.

Yelp
Ordered food online 11:40 AM on 20th June 2021. I was told food will be ready by 12:20 PM. I am standing here at 12:35PM and I am told that it will take another 15 mins for the food to be ready. Finally i got the food at 12:57 PM. There were 4 other guy who were waiting and in the same boat!!!. I am never ordering food from this location anymore.

Yelp
Food is delicious. You can explore different varieties of egg dishes . The service is good and ambience is okay.
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
The chicken kadai and sandwiches we tried were good. Chicken kadai came with roti, I wished they could offer more than 2 pieces, but the taste and the combo were pretty good
google avatar

Essie E.

Yelp
We come here for one thing & it is the Chicken Masala sandwich! This review is based solely off that item. Good flavor combo. Comes with a side of chips.

Paul S.

Yelp
We have now eaten there two weeks in a row and both times the experience was great! We are not familiar with this type of Indian food and the people there gave us good descriptions of what we were looking at on the menu. After we ordered the food came out fast enough and was hot and very tasty. i am talking about it with our friends
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I love Indian food and was recommended this place by a young Indian woman in a local retail store. The rice plate that we had was very flavorful with a great sense of Indian spice, yet without the intense heat ( at my wife's request). I had never had Indian street food and the sandwich was quite a beautiful blast of flavor with a greater heat level, but in my opinion, even better than the rice! Mango lassi was delicious and perfect touch with the classic samosa. Price is fair, though the plates were kind of small, but great flavor. All in all I will definitely be returning with more family to try this Jewel of a restaurant!

Nim K.

Yelp
Terrible food, way too much expensive, feel like throw money in the garbage, at least I would expect little bit Flavour in the food besides only spices

Yelp
Awesome food great for vegetarians with plenty of selections. I tried the club sandwich

Purnima V.

Yelp
The service is bad. The quantity of food is very little. The person standing behind the counter is clueless about most of the items and has a very demure demeanor.

Green Boiled Fry - Eggsellent and would order this again Boiled eggs in a Spicy fragrant green sauce, similar to samosa sauce. Lachko - Eggsellent and would order this again Similar sauce to the Green Boiled Fry mixed with runny eggs and some cheese. I didn't really notice the cheese much but the texture of the eggs reminds me of a great scrambled egg dish where the eggs are silky smooth as opposed to hard. You also get purple onions to put into the dish, your choice to put them in or skip them. You will be asked if you want bread or roti (I couldn't understand the guy when he was talking to me). Roti is flat pita bread essentially. Bread is sliced white bread. I preferred using the Roti, tear off a bit, pick up the Lachko. The bread works too but since I'll eat the leftovers with rice at home I would go with the Roti. Sadly you only get 1 roti vs 3 bread, neither are really enough haha. Desi Omelette - I'd pass on this because of the texture. Thin pan fried? omelette made with onions, tomatoes, & chillies. It's very flat and thin so you get a bit of browning and it ends up making it a drier texture than I would like in an omelette, definitely not fluffy, think like thin almost crisp pancake. The flavor of it is very good though. Not spicy. Chicken Masala Sandwich - I'd pass on this due to the Masala, but if you like it, go for it. Grilled cheese with 3 pieces of bread and tomato and lettuce on the top layer and Masala chicken on the bottom, or vice versa depending on how you hold it. A very strong pungent spice on the chicken.
