The 25 Essential Albuquerque Restaurants

"A truly outstanding bagel was hard to come by in Albuquerque until recently. This weekly bagel pop-up started in 2021 by offering online orders for pickup outside a commissary kitchen, and it has since shifted to two standing weekend dates in downtown Albuquerque: Saturdays at Zendo Coffee and Sundays at Gravity Bound Brewing. You’ll find staples like sesame, onion, and everything bagels, but also unique rotating variations like blue corn bagels made with wild rice, herbes de Provence, Earl Grey tea, and local blue corn. Preorders go live on Wednesday mornings; stay up to date on Instagram so you don’t miss out." - Justin De La Rosa

Came friday morning to pick up a half dozen of bagels. Walked in and was greeted friendly by the two ladies opening. Stacey was a tremendous help and a great way to start my day. She provided helpful advice of what’s good and was patient with all my questions. She was very nice and sweet and so was the other girl didn’t catch her name. Dropped my entire coffee and still helped me out. Amazing service.

Google
I can't speak of the Location Service or Atmosphere as I ordered from Uber eats, but let me just say this. Hands down, the best food delivery experience I have had! My sandwich was hot and extremely delicious, I wish I could directly thank the person that made it. My Uber driver was super outgoing and friendly too. Just super happy! Good service and food is hard to find nowadays so when I do I have to rave about it!!

Mark Coffing

Google
So the location is good and people are friendly but I was really disappointed in the avocado portions on the avocado bagel. It was like 1 Tbsp. Very disappointing for the price

Sunny Cielo

Google
Good selection of bagels. Got pretzel, onion and everything bagel which were soft & toasty. The ham and veggies were fresh. Coffee was good as well. There was alot of smoke at one point, thought the place was on fire and we ended up smelling as if we had gone to a b b que. But it was all good.

Google
I purchased several sandwiches. I was not satisfied with the outcome of one of them. Stacey, Manager, was attentive and acted promptly to resolve the issue. I commend her highly and believe that she is truly an asset to Einstein Bagels.

Angelique Turner

Google
Great food, average service. Prices are decent. A great variety to choose from. Good location but crudy parking. If you love a good bagel breakfast sandwich, this is the place for you. Nice that they have you the choice of one or two eggs on your sandwich.

Claire Barrow

Google
Very rude manager. I ordered 2 bagels, and the price range up higher than what I paid for the exact same items just 2 days ago. I asked her what was different. She got upset and said I don't know! It's just how it rang up. She then quickly turned around, walked away, and disappeared down a hallway! So bizarre! Guess she is having a bad day. I believe that she entered the incorrect original price. Oh well..I had to reduce my order because I didn't have enough money with me to cover the price increase.

Google
The customer service skills with all 3 employees I dealt with within the time span of 20 minutes were just not there. Each one was rude and made it clear they hate their job. Made me & my friends want to get out of there asap. I’d rather go to the one at UNM than deal with this location ever again:) Zero stars for service and atmosphere

Yelp
The absolute worst customer service I had ever experienced. As a food Service manager myself, and working in the industry for over eight years I couldn't fathom the way the cashier spoke to me the entire transaction I walked in, and there was immediate disgust in his attitude with a giant sigh. I proceeded to get my order placed and I had ordered a jalapeño farmhouse bagel and before I could get that out, he cut me off and said "I don't have jalapeño bagels, all I have is look available in case."! The other worker had hopped in at this point, and offered me a couple of bagels that were really good in comparison, which was very sweet. The cashier also had an AirPod in the entire time and on his phone. The entire transaction was talking to me, looking down at his phone, waving his phone and huffing and puffing. The worker that made the food was very kind and hopped in, and could definitely see that the cashier was hostile in his attitude. The cashier proceeded to treat the guest behind me with the same attitude. I don't normally leave reviews because I don't want people to get in trouble. Everybody lives different lives, but there was absolutely no reason to get treated like this for spending $30 on 3 bagels.

Yelp
We ordered ahead and our breakfast sandwiches were ready when we got there. They were significantly better than I was expecting. We got the Maple House Egg Sandwich and the All-Nighter Egg Sandwich. Both were great! My husband liked the maple one best and I liked the All-Nighter. No complaints and usually have a lot to give.

Yelp
I honestly really enjoy Einstein's but I have to say their coffee is super inconsistent. I've ordered the same thing multiple times but never gotten the same thing. Not that anything has ever been bad but it isn't consistent which is kind of funny for a chain. This last time I went my vanilla cold brew was pre-sweetened so I ended up over-sweetening it because last time it was not. I was still able to get my caffeine fix and maybe a bit of a sugar high. The staff is always friendly and the bagels are decent for sure. I can never decide if I want savory or sweet but both is always too much haha. I miss my days living on campus when you could grab a bagel in between classes. A sugar cinnamon bagel never sounds like a bad choice lol especially when you're in undergrad and living without any real schedule.

Yelp
I was here for breakfast last Sunday. I understand that sometimes the food in the picture has been made to look ideal, and sometimes real life is not quite that spiffy. However, what was pictured on the huge sign in the store and what I got were not in the same universe. I ordered the brisket bagel sandwich. It looked incredibly appealing in the photo. What I got was wrapped in WET paper, because it was so greasy. It took no fewer than 8 napkins as I trudged through the sandwish to attempt to keep my hands clean. Yes, I could have taken it back, but I had been brought here by a friend, who paid for my meal, and I didn't want the friend to feel embarrassed. The bagel was sad and smushed. The whole sandwich was less than 1 inch tall, including the filling. A bagel by itself should be taller than that. It was just gross and sad. I'll never come here again.

Gabriel S.

Yelp
The staff were very nice, the store was clean and well kept. We had never been to einsteins before so the lady who took our order helped us decide. The brisket bagel was great and we even got a second one to split in addition to our own. There was some trouble with using our gift card to pay, but the nice lady worked it out for us.

Ryan H.

Yelp
Not clean. Workers unaware. Left out side of chips for my sandwich. Soda fountain had very little carbonation. Employees stated they didn't know how to operate the coffee machine. There was no ice.

Frida-Grace O.

Yelp
The staff were very unwelcoming, I stated explicitly what I wanted and she rang it up as something else and I ended up getting something I didn't want , I am not a confrontational person so I didn't say anything but please management listen it is not okay for customers to feel this way and it just felt like a place I did not want to spend my money please do better

Yelp
Love their bagels, sandwiches & coffee! U get free coffee with purchase.. YAY! This is probably the closest I'll get to new York style bagels! Lox & bagel sandwich is great! So are the breakfast sandwiches.

Yelp
I waited a full 12 hours to cool off before posting this review to see if maybe I wanted to change my mind before telling everyone about how horrible the service was today. Nope. Still furious. We came in this morning around 9 AM and walked straight over to where the bagels were. My husband wanted to place an order for a sandwich as well as some bagels. Now, several bagels were sold out so we stayed where the bagels were to evaluate what he wanted from what was left. The girl at the register, however, kept yelling for us to order and come to her. I told her politely that we were trying to see what we wanted from what was available and she said she "didn't care." No, she was not taking orders from the order computer by the bagels but was placing them directly into the register. My husband also has a stutter. She told him she wouldn't place his order if he "didn't speak up." Um... what?! We paid and walked over to wait for the food. She continued to just give us dirty looks for no reason. I waited for a manager to come out of the back because by then I was FURIOUS. This girl was TOO LAZY to do her job adequately and then had the nerve to belittle my husband for his disability. The manager basically just didn't care because it was the cashier's first day. So that makes discrimination okay? Will NEVER return and WILL contact corporate! Now I understand why everyone gives this location such poor remarks!

Yelp
*Avoid* I cannot stress enough how awful the staff is. First not a single employee acknowledged anyone there. They were talking amongst themselves and worrying about a catering order. The line was long and no one cared. When it was time to attempt to order I ordered a dozen bagels, made a point to say "I want to choose the bagels", which the employee acknowledged then proceeded to fill a box with whatever she wanted. When I said that isn't what I ordered and I just wanted to pick my own, she rolled her eyes, threw attitude and then began shoving what I said into the box while making annoyed sounds the whole time. The people around me waited even longer because they had the audacity to order food that needed to be cooked and the employees let them know just how annoyed they were. This place has never been smooth, the staff has never been pleasant (looking at you manager) but today was over the top. I felt like I was bothering them for asking for food to buy. Absolutely ridiculous. If this was a one-off thing, I could understand. I'd be annoyed but I'd get it. But this is every time I go. I won't go back. Get it together.

Yelp
I love this location. I am always greeted with a smile and the girls are sweethearts. (I've never seen a male employee there). The bagels are fresh and the Manager is wise to the ebb and flow of our neighborhood demands. Our hood eats a lot of the hash brown bagels; she says she makes double batches we eat so many. Wow I am glad she is on top of it because I love my "All-nighter" regardless but it is best on a hash brown bagel. Even when there is a line it moves quickly and the entire lobby is well designed to keep us all a proper distance apart through these strange times. Very clean environment too. Bagel Monday is never disappointing but you better get there before 9am or pickins are slim! Coffee is strong and there is like 3 or 4 to choose from. I highly recommend you stop by have a fresh hot bagel sandwich or go Monday AM and get a great discount on a bakers dozen and make your own epic sandwiches at home. JUST GO TRY IT!

Yelp
This is the last time I buy anything here. The last time I dropped in the staff had vulgar rap music blaring in the back. I walked in to the N-word, among other profanities, and waited several minutes for the staff members to come out to help. I let them know that the music was wildly inappropriate and the manager on duty argued with me that it was in a different language. It was not. I took my food, left and decided not to go back for a while. It's been a few months since that incident and I returned today. Surprise, surprise nothing is better. The customer before me ordered a Nova lox bagel and the staff just must not change out their knives because my bagel had some gross, reddish, gooey stuff on the bread where it was sliced (see photo). Cross contamination is a HUGE problem and it seems to be one that to one in this store cares about here. I went to let the staff know and stood there for a while while the two girls had their backs turned to the front counter and they were giggling at something on one or their phones. I was willing to let go of the fact that while we ordered one girl talked over the other to get a bagel flavor while we were ordering, but this was just too much

Yelp
The biggest challenge at this location is finding a place to park. There is little street parking the parking behind the store is usually fully in the morning. The staff is always nice and friendly and helpful. There is usually plenty of bagel options to choose from.

Clay W.

Yelp
It's dirty and the staff is rude. Don't expect to sit down and eat a bagel because the dining room is still closed in Oct 2022. Wow
google avatar

Luna L.

Yelp
This is one of the most disgusting restaurants in albuquerque. I ordered a brunch box through door dash and opened my box to find two moldy muffins. I reported it to DoorDash and am waiting for my refund. This place is disgusting. I wish they would get shut down.

Jose Z.

Yelp
On New Year Day with only 3 workers they have patience and take care of all DoorDash orders as well as all walk in customers! Great job!
google avatar

Jeanie M.

Yelp
I love Einstein's super delicious bagels and schmears. I keep an eye open for their fun seasonal specialties, because they are always a treat. They make yummy breakfast sandwiches, including egg white options. And FYI, you should check out $6 Mondays. 13 bagels, baby, for just six bucks. Who says Monday's are blah? Service is fast and friendly. There's lots of tables available. There's also bar seating along the window, which is great for people watching. There's tables outside, as well.

Eduardo B.

Yelp
Terrible. This establishment is terrible and I don't recommend spending your money here . They are extremely hostile. When I first arrived I was approached by employee, they approached and made me feel like I was not welcome because they say "you should leave Im calling the tow truck" it's crazy how they can act like this to a customer who goes there often.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
I'm come in here almost every other Friday to buy two dozen bagels for my team. Today I came in with my team leader and there was a problem with his card. The associate was very helpful and polite and allowed us to have the bagels for our team in support of the military. We will definitely be coming back with cash this afternoon and bring as much business their way as possible. It was great to receive such trust and support for the military and a consistent customer.
google avatar

Alyssa P.

Yelp
I really love this store but it seems to be mismanaged at times. The staff is wonderful but the store is messy, under stocked, and slow. It seems more a management issue than the employees but it makes mornings difficult when you have to wait 25 minutes for a bagel with spread.
google avatar

Shawna K.

Yelp
I always get the Nova lox sandwich and I highly recommend that! Today I got the nutty monkey which is Nutella with almonds and banana. Yummo! This location is convenient to the UNM area and the service is always friendly.
google avatar

Diana H.

Yelp
An un-toasted poppyseed bagel with peanut butter and honey. Cut it, slap on the PB and honey, BAM! Yet, for the last year this simple order has been difficult for the employees. I don't get upset because I don't want to embarrass my husband, UNM faculty, who often sits there to correct papers etc... but seriously, although the staff is pleasant, I wish they'd get my order right. They have a problem with "No onions on the lox bagel" too.
google avatar

Becca G.

Yelp
Methinks you should choose another EB location! It's very hard for me to do, but I will be driving either to uptown, and or the heights location from now on! The staff at the Central/University location lack the customer service skills to run the restaurant. Breakfast Sandwiches: I don't know how hard it is to understand "Don't cut my bagel breakfast sandwich after wrapping it up" They have started this "trend" of wrapping up the bagel, and then...cutting it in half in the wrapper.....that may work great for "cold items' but when you are trying to keep a HOT BREAKFAST SANDWICH HOT---it doesn't. Also, Breakfast Sandwiches DO NOT BELONG in the FLIMSY little BAG they put bagels and smear in since it falls apart from the weight of the food! Ordering Food: There have also been times that I have given someone my order, and I swear, I have to say it 3 times for someone to understand, and then when I get to work---it's not what I ordered! Now every time I order, I have to stop, open my bagel and make sure it's what i ordered! Coffee not brewed and half and half: I can understand that there's not coffee, maybe they had a rush, but sometimes I think they are too focused on getting their catering done, that they don't realize that customers need to go to work themselves and don't want to sit around and wait 20 minutes for coffee to brew! If you bring the half and half container to them and drop it off, they give you this look like "and?" and then sit there and talk to each other. I'm like...hey, how about one of you all fill the cream up? If I have to go here again, and there's no cream, I know were they keep it now, maybe i will just fill it up for them, since it takes them 5 minutes to figure out how to do it! Fresh Eggs???? They have gone to "making eggs fresh on site" which is fine, but now they also charge you 50 cents extra if you want two eggs, when before, the breakfast sandwich came with two eggs. For the extra price, it would be much more economical to go to Twisters and get a burrito and coffee which only costs $5.45 cents. Why pay $8.02 cents for lousy food, lousy customer service, and lousy coffee choices?
google avatar

Cass V.

Yelp
I love a coffee and bagel in the morning! Green chili bagel is required though. With any shmear, but plain is always safe. They have Nutella now which is awesome. I love this location by campus because it's also a great sport to study or do some work or to grab a quick breakfast. Service is always the same and reliable.
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
Thank you Einstein Bros. for being my morning savior with delicious coffee - as always. My hotel really tries to make a decent cup but nothing compares to Vanilla Hazelnut! Friendly service and conveniently located across from the UNM campus. I'll be here all week and I'm betting the staff will know me!
google avatar

Laurel S.

Yelp
What a nice friendly bagel place! Variety is fantastic, and service is almost always fast and efficient! Coffee is very nice, and usually you can even pick up a banana or fruit salad, orange juice or yogurt! I prefer to pick up my bagel, sesame, with cream cheese light. Then eat only half so I don't get too fat. (Not running 3-5 mikes any more). Now that they are upping the number of fruits and vegetables to be consumed in a day to eight, I'm obsessing about how to fit all that in!! but this could help. Does jelly count as a fruit? This is my favorite bagel place!!!
google avatar

Shannon C.

Yelp
I need to stop coming here. While I love there cream cheese selection, coffee, and bagel selection, I have found the service to be bad and I'm annoyed every visit. They never the coffee I want available. There are 4-8 people working and it doesn't matter if it's crowded or not, I always seem to be waiting for the coffee to brew. So, I'll go elsewhere and find fresh coffee ready. The bagels used to be great, but they seem smaller and never fully cooked, chewy, and just ok. The cream cheese is outstanding as always-I guess it's good that it comes in a tub and no human at the store can really mess that up. Overall, I have a sense that no one there really likes there job. And it shows. I guess I can't blame them, but hey, go get another job!
google avatar

John Jah F.

Yelp
I get home and open up my sandwich to find that they somehow put mayonnaise on the very bottom of my sandwich...on the outside! Where your thumbs go when you eat it. It's like they purposely tried to make my sandwich awful. I was being so nice to them despite the 20 minutes it took to get in and out. I will never eat or drink here again. Awful experience! And by the looks of the other reviews...they couldn't care less about their customers Ps: I wrote this as I'm trying to eat this mess and I just realized they didn't even give me the sandwich I ordered. For repeating back my order twice I guess the sandwich maker didn't pay attention. I guess it's my fault for eating at a chain and not local. Lesson learned
google avatar

Jenny M.

Yelp
Thank you thank you! I am came in with no notice and got bagels for the whole er staff. Not only did they slice them for me. They said no problem. And will have some ready for night shift! Now that's customer service! I didn't get their names....but they are my hero today!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Came here and picked up an Italian Chicken Panini for lunch, it was pretty damn good and the smell attracted a few inquiries. The only downside was the amount of time it too to prepare. If I worked in the area I would probably frequent here for lunch. Comparing it to the surrounding places to get a sandwich, however, only nets it 3 stars.

Yelp
Let me tell you all the reasons you should avoid THIS particular EB like the black plague. We have a tradition in our little family. Every year on valentines day, he buys dinner at our favorite restaurant in town...and I bring Lox on a bagel for breakfast in bed. NOT. SO. MUCH. I've been this EB several times...for more than our yearly Lox Valentines breakfast, and every time, without fail I am entirely disappointed and frustrated. This year, I'm downright angry. Upon entering the building, I was "non-greeted" by an unruly looking gal, who gave off this I-can't-believe-I-have-to-even-think-about-bagels vibe. She was not very nice. I had to re-order my "2 Nova Lox Bagels and a coffee" order to her twice before she caught on and was able to ring it up on the register. THEN I watched as an employee instructed another how to spread cream cheese onto a bagel (this part took about 15 minutes). Next, the second employee put a delicate 1x1 square inch of lox onto each bagel...(must be a national lox shortage) He forgot the capers. When I mentioned the capers, he looked at me like I was from mars and asked "what are capers?". Finally, they bagged up the pathetic Nova Lox Bagels and handed them to me. I, as kindly as possible said, "I also ordered a coffee.." and as per every other review, I received the complimentary eye-roll and HHMMPH and was handed my cup. Also per reviews, there was no fresh coffee or cream...so as I waited for the coffee to be brewed, I made a mental list of why I would never, ever, in a million years, come hell or high water...EVER come here again. It would be wise of Einstein to turn over this entire staff and install new management that perhaps gives a TINY shit about customer service.
google avatar

Sandra D.

Yelp
coffee was nice & hot and bagels were delicious! I was hesitant to come to this location based off reviews, but everything was great! friendly staff as well!

Meaghan B.

Yelp
Waited 20mins for a breakfast bagel only to have it come out cold, the vanilla hazelnut coffee was completely out, and all the tables were dirty. Usually Einstein's is on point. This location is the worst.
google avatar

Miss A.

Yelp
This is the ghetto Einstein Bagels I guess. The inside is old looking and dirty. The coffee area is filthy. My hot Italian Chicken sandwich was cold. My pickle was old. I decided to try to eat on the patio. A homeless lady smoking cigarettes stood in front of me staring. Over staffed employees that cannot clean up for customers. I never been to an Einstein Bagels like this. This is awful. Management needs to see another location and learn how it works. If you want a nice clean meal near the University, this is not the place you want to be.
google avatar

Laina S.

Yelp
Took way to long for a plain bagel !!! I will not come back to this location . With 4 people working it shouldn't have taken so along.
google avatar

Matthew V.

Yelp
Horrible- store is dirty and gross feeling. Not stocked on hardly anything. Took 10 minutes to get my Caramel Mac. Store just sucks ass
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Every time I'm in ABQ I end up here with my finicky-eater elderly mother. We've enjoyed it in the past, but this time didn't go that well. When I pointed out to one employee that their main coffee container was empty as was the half-and-half, she made a "huffing" sound as if I was inconveniencing her. The male who took our order had to be told repeatedly that it was "staying" (vs take-out), and he could not manage to combine our four orders into one so I had to pay four times. Really, dude? No plans to return.

Olivia K.

Yelp
This is consistently the worst Einsteins ever. They always put way too little cream cheese and take exceptionally longer than any other einsteins I've ever been to. It's incredibly frustrating how much this einsteins sucks compared to the others.
google avatar

Sherri B.

Yelp
not bad, not great . . . the bagels are a step up from frozen. the best bagel I had was the pumpkin. this place is a little disorganized and a lot messy. emergency bagel only. I was surprised that it was so so oh well Downgraded to 2 stars because I ordered 2 bagels and they got one wrong ...sheesh it's not that hard ... And they charge 1.85 for butter? Wtf?
google avatar

Nevil B.

Yelp
Ok tasting bagel, I'm mean it's hard to mess up a bagel with cream cheese. But the employees are so slow and do not care. Got my bagel then waited 15 minutes for my latte.... Then when I asked about it, the lady was so rude like I was inconveniencing her.
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
If you have had bagels in New York state you will find these somewhat disappointing. Always seems to be busy here, due to proximity to the University of New Mexico. An OK option by Albuquerque standards. The staff are quite friendly. One orders at the counter. I find the prices to be quite high..
google avatar

Jaime Patricio M.

Yelp
Not a bad bagel but not the most savory or sweet if that is what you select. I do not like BLOs (bagel like objects)---i like New York style chewy bagels these are good but they are not great.

Erin E.

Yelp
I went to this location about two weeks ago. I had a very good experience. My server was very friendly and patient as I took some time to think about what bagels I wanted. She was very helpful too. I ordered a dozen box and three cream cheese containers. I had the store cut the bagels and they were all cut beautifully. When I got home with the bagels, toasted them, and cream cheesed them up- they were extremely delicious!

Danielle H.

Yelp
This is by far the worst location I have visited. First I place my order and the employee doesn't know how to ring in my sandwich, then he tells me they are out of the bagel it is made on. It takes about 15 minutes for them to make my sandwich when I get it it is cold and they cut my wrapper in half and threw it into a bag so it was falling out. That's not even the worst part; one of the employees had her child in there and went to sit with her then took a bite of the food and proceeded to go back behind the counter and help customers without washing her hands. After I seen that another employee gave a dog a biscuit and did not wash her hands either. I was so disgusted I threw my food away! I definitely would not come back to this location!

Moira T.

Yelp
Good breakfast. Large selection of bagels and sandwiches.

Jason J.

Yelp
Terrible service. The shift manager was just plain rude to both me and the employee working. Just threw the food at me when it was done. I will never come back here again
