San Francisco Bagel Shop Midnite Bagel Opens Austin Pop-Up for January | Eater Austin

"I found Midnite Bagel, a San Francisco shop run by founder Nick Beitcher, currently slinging bagels in January at Zilker neighborhood hotel the Loren as a month-long pop-up. The menu includes bagels in plain, everything, buckwheat–black sesame, and cinnamon-raisin, paired with cream cheeses like jalapeño, plain, and scallion; there are also open-face sandwiches such as one with smoked salmon and another topped with vegetables like onions and sprouts. The bakery’s breads (buckwheat black sesame, pumpernickel) and baked goods and snacks—granola, buckwheat banana muffins, and everything cookies—are also on offer. Beitcher previously worked at essential San Francisco bakery Tartine, started Midnite as a pop-up in 2018, briefly opened a physical bakery, and now sells bagels out of a commissary kitchen and at farmers markets. The Austin pop-up runs January 1–31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (or until sold out), and a portion of proceeds will go to the Loren’s nonprofit, Loren Roots Imperative, to help offset carbon footprints." - Nadia Chaudhury

I recently stopped by Einstein Bros. Bagels, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my visit. While their classic bagels are always solid, this time I had the chance to try their seasonal Oktoberfest Egg Sandwich, and it was absolutely amazing. The sandwich captures everything you’d hope for in a seasonal special. The combination of flavors was rich and comforting, perfect for this time of year. What stood out the most was the Beer Cheese Shmear — creamy, flavorful, and just the right amount of indulgence. It paired beautifully with the eggs and sausage, creating a hearty breakfast sandwich that was both satisfying and unique. Each bite had a balance of savory, cheesy goodness with a subtle tang that elevated the entire experience. I also appreciated that the portion was generous without being overwhelming, making it ideal for a filling breakfast or even brunch on the go. The seasonal twist made it feel special, something you don’t find every day, and it honestly exceeded my expectations for a quick-service spot. Overall, Einstein Bros. delivered not just convenience but great taste. If you’re a fan of seasonal flavors, the Oktoberfest Egg Sandwich with Beer Cheese Shmear is a must-try before it’s gone.

It was ok , I tried the Santa Fe but it felt similar as eating mcdonalds breakfast no wow factor for the one I chose. Atmosphere is relaxing

I had a decently large order for takeout that was ordered 2.5 hours prior to the pickup time. I arrived and had to wait an extended 35 minutes to receive the food as they started making it as soon as I got there for pick up. There were no prior customers there that would have taken priority over my order either. They were very slow and inconsistent. Would not recommend for take out. The rest of the people that showed up in the mean time were told they had to wait 20-30 minutes for their orders as well.

Google
Everyone here is so nice! The GM is super friendly. Nathan especially is super cool and always gets our food out to us quick.

Sometimes I order online to pick something up, most often a Nova Lox bagel sandwich. Of course they are tasty but I have found significant INCONSISTENCY in terms of how much lox [especially] & other toppings are included; at least once, I was pleasantly surprised, but other times, somewhat dissatisfied. The photo on the official menu indicates they should be loaded much better! And the spreading of my shmear can be kinda sad. I expect something slightly special for $11. 😅 IMO there should also be a place in the online ordering form to further customize beyond type of bagel and whether it's toasted and/or thinned. For example, to request adjustment of toppings e.g. light onions or no capers. Perhaps even a choice of shmear. Finally, be sure to check your bag before you leave when picking up because they may forget to add the bag of chips, for example. The cashier was glad to grab me one, but just sayin'. Common sense practice is best. I recommend Nervous Charlie's on North Lamar for bagels & bagel sandwiches. **Photos show my bagel sandwich (none consumed yet, as it came) & ticket from 9/26/24.**

Google
KT was goated. W experience. food was fresh KT himself said my sandwich wasn’t fresh enough for me and remade it on the spot. Ray and Naomi were so nice and helpful they should be the CEO‼️

Google
Very disappointed with what I received, I paid almost $11 for a sandwich that’s missing half of the cheese if you look closely. Look what they’re advertising on the website what they’re actually selling. I order 4X sandwich paid more than $50 and more including the fees. Please please!!!! Look at the staff that’s working this morning of 11/3 they need BIG TIME HELP!

Alexander K

Google
I had no issues with supply or service. Super nice staff ordered quick had my Order out in less than 5 minutes. Tasted fresh and the bagel was fantastic. I liked the sausage egg and cheese the best.

Yelp
Happy birthday to me! Of all the birthday free food I get every year, the free breakfast sandwich at Einstein is the best breakfast one. I usually will avoid this location at all costs cause I once got a boot put on my car tire in their parking lot when trying to pick up a late delivery order (when they were apparently closed) and had to pay the crook $100 to get it taken off which was never refunded to me (and ruined my day of Grubhub work). In any case, my free Oktoberfest Breakfast Sandwich same coffee was ready when ai arrived and is all delicious. I didn't get a boot this time, despite being double parked in their back lot as i ran in to get my food. But only 3 stars, cause this location sucks if you're driving!! Btw, the inside is nice if you live near UT and want to hang and use their wifi.

Yelp
very slow staff. place is a pain to park at. not well cleaned. haven't been to a E bagel in a while and now i remember why.

Yelp
Stopped by Einstein Bros. Bagels for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. Quite a good number of options on their menu. Took my time to go through it and stood in the line for order. This place was crowded around 10am. Service was quite fast. The order was taken quickly. The coffee arrived first, then the sandwich. They have good number of tables to dine-in but almost every one of them were occupied when I got my order. The bagel was very soft and loved the sandwich. It was scrumptious. The pricing is also quite decent. Ambiance of this place quite good. Lighting, wall-art and the whole set up is class. Loved the food and service. Thought of going back again for more bagels, but shame that I didn't find enough time! Next time!

Yelp
Very friendly staff! Love having you guys here in Leander. All new shopping area right near the Cap Metro station and neighborhood growing so fast.
google avatar

Missy I.

Yelp
Ya'll raised the prices last week and then don't even heat up the food?? Awful business plan.
google avatar

Romy G.

Yelp
I have never seen such a sad excuse for a schmear of cream cheese. Unfortunate that their marketing photos dont reflect the product.
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Can never go wrong with Einstein's! Always quality bagels for a decent price. I love the large flavor variety - i love experimenting with different bagel flavors and different schmears. Current fave is the Cinnamon raisin bagel and honey almond schmear. Great for any sweet tooth. Don't skimp on breakfast it's the best meal of the day

Joon S.

Yelp
Food was fine. Service left a lot to be desired. The customers in front of me didn't get their items and received attitude from a worker. Additionally, it took me nearly 45 minutes to receive my food, and I watched several people in front of me receive theirs. I also watched an employee pick up a receipt off the floor with her gloves, and continue to make food in front of me. Absolutely disgusting.

Yelp
Alright, Einstein Bros. is a chain and we all know the bagels are great. Let me review this specific location by UT campus. I can't deny that proximity to this one was a factor in choosing my apartment for college. I get a bagel here 3-5 times a week and no bad experience can stop my from getting my daily bagel, so let me give you an honest, unbiased review. This location is the worst bagel shop I've ever walked into, ever. You could make direct eye contact with an employee and they would just look back at you and not say hello I've seen bagel shops 2-3x busier than this one that manage to keep coffee and creamer full, but man these people can't manage even when no one is in the lobby! The consistency of shmear from bagel to bagel is nonexistent. The consistency in general is nonexistent - they regularly provide me with a knife and fork for my single bagel with shmear (?) but never for my sandwich with hash brown side? I feel like this is a side project from "Nathan for You." I can't wait to walk in here one day to have my sub-par customer experience interrupted by a camera crew and find out this Einstein Bros. was some big joke all along

Susan O.

Yelp
**Back to this location for a baker's dozen blueberry bagels and while they could only sell us a half dozen, the manager threw in a free cream cheese for our troubles. Excellent customer service as usual and we understand that they have to hold back some for other customers. We were just going to freeze some anyway. We understand and we will return! First time visiting this location and it was a fantastic experience. I ordered the baker's dozen with 2 cream cheeses. I've been buying bagels from Einstein for years and have never had my order packed so well. The 2 onion ones were placed separately in their own bag in the box. The rest were very neatly and well packed. They even offered freezer bags. At other locations, I've received bagels simply tossed inside or stacked but never so carefully. I felt very valued as a customer. See you again the next time I'm in Austin!
google avatar

Naomi L.

Yelp
The bagels are good and there is a variety of options. So, no problem with the food. The location near campus has become extremely stingy with its hours. I used to eat lunch here but now they close at 12. Also this location sometimes simply shuts down altogether when UT is closed. The location on 15th completely closed. I would eat here if it were not so inconvenient.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
I was shocked to see such low reviews! Maybe I've gotten lucky with my experience, but I love Einstein's. My favorite bagel sandwiches are the farmhouse, all-nighter, and chorizo sunrise. I'm no coffee aficionado and just like it sweet, but I like getting iced coffee here too! My only complaint is that it's not open later. It's hard to find time to get a bagel before class and by the time I get out, Einstein's is closed.
google avatar

Suriya S.

Yelp
Einstein is good and a reliable option but the staff isn't that great at this location. Generally, I'm asked if I want the bagel to be toasted but they never ask me here. It's frustrating when I forget to specify unprompted and my bagel is cold. The chips are included with a meal but the staff will also omit that information. They generally close at 2pm even though Google says 12p
google avatar

Diana X.

Yelp
It has really good bagels and bagel combinations I just wish there was more stuff in the sandwich but for its pricing it's amazing. because it's on the way to class I go here way too often I do love it's coffee and coffee slushes.

Toni T.

Yelp
Service by Andrew was amazing. I didn't know whether to get a plain bagel or avocado and he help me with the decision so quick. Seriously I was so indecisive and him and the rest of the staff was so patient with me. The food and ambiance was spectacular. Will be back again!

Yelp
The exterior definitely looks pretty rundown and is very the store's logo is very unnoticeable. They never look like they're open because their "Open" sign is always turned off. The inside is not super cozy and is a little dark, but I came here one day to study and it does it's job as a study spot. I've been here twice and both times the cashier ladies weren't very nice. They weren't rude but they just had a "whatever, bagels are bagels; why are you asking questions?" attitude. Food wise: the bagels are pretty fresh and tasty. I got the rancher sandwich and the bacon and caramel used onion cream cheese that they put inside of it is to die for!!! Therefore food=4/5 Service=3/5 Store=2.5/5

Yelp
The 4 girls that were working in the morning at 7:45 am on Thursday the 19th were incredibly rude. We walked in and like any other Einstein bagels we've been to we walked up to the counter and saw what was available. After about 30 seconds I was wondering why none of the girls acknowledged us and mind you we were about to go to the lake and we're in swim outfits and I had a hat on backwards. I walked up to the cash register and I was about to order when my wife started yelling at the other three girls apparently they were calling us stupid for not walking up to the cash register first and they were trying to talk smack about me wearing my hat backwards which pissed her off and called them out. They tried the backpedal and say they weren't talking about us but she heard of for a good two minutes and when she heard the hat comment she said who else is in here that's wearing a hat backwards in fact no other customers were in their but us. We walked out and went to another location never had a bad experience before. Instead of me arguing with them and making them feel itty-bitty I just assumed they were about 16 years old and young and stupid better just leave it at that

Yelp
i was nervous going to try this place because of all the bad reviews, but i think they changed for the better. the workers were sweet and they got my order out quick. i dont know if this thin sandwich is worth the $6.50 i paid considering it didnt make me full but it was a solid bagel and i dont regret it.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely love Einsteins and love having one so close to where I live. I pass it everyday on my way to class sooo I probably stop by there 4-5 times a week. I would recommend you definitely get their rewards app- it's so worth it! You get 2 points per $1 you spend and can redeem those points for free things. I usually get a bagel with schmear, but recently starting getting their turkey sausage and cheddar cheese egg sandwich and it's great! And of course, I always get their ~amazing~ coffee. I loovvee their Vanilla Hazelnut coffee. It's medium roast and it tastes delicious. They even have a vanilla hazelnut creamer, and I highly recommend that. It's a cute place to study, but the wifi can be kind of spotty. Noise levels vary depending on the time of day. Unfortunately, this location has a lot of negative reviews. Management does switch out often, but I think that they do a good job of training people quickly. They get your orders out quickly and accurately. All in all, I love Einsteins and will definitely continue being a regular here!
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Always a favorite stop for me. Chocolate chip coffee cake and milk. This has become my "go to" combo when I find an Einstein's. I also love the cinnamon raisin bagels but this time the child in me won!!
google avatar

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
The honey almond shmear is a must try! I also love their ham and Swiss egg sandwich. Sometimes it gets super crowded because it's so close to the university and they accidentally skipped my order. This location is rather filthy. If I were to get something from here, it would most likely be to go. They don't seem to clean the tables or floors often and every single time I've been here, it just looks messy.
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
Einsteins is great when you want a quick bagel and coffee fix on the way to class. Always expect a line of students thinking the same thing though. This Einsteins is pretty spacious and thus a good spot for meet ups, but they sometimes run out of items because of it's location near campus. You'll also get random homeless people that like to loiter around. In terms of food, I always try to get something different- but with the consistent vanilla hazelnut brewed coffee. This time, I got the asparagus mushroom Swiss egg sandwich. Taste will be what you expect- a nice toasted bagel with whatever flavors you ordered in your creation. You can never go wrong with the food here- some tips: change it up by getting a different schmear per half, make sure the bagel is toasted, ask for extra schmear, throw in a free topping. Customize that bagel!

Yelp
My husband and I love Bagels from Einstein and always have really good experience we went to this location this morning around 740am we walk in and notice 4 girls in a group behind the counter and one at register we were looking at the lack of bagels and wondered why with 5 employees they did not attempt to clean the coffee area that was a mess and top display and over half of middle no bagel selection so as my husband and I were deciding what to have I over hear one of the employees with green hair start talking about how long it was going to take for them to figure out to order at the register and that they should post a sign then one said it didn't matter the guy can't even wear his hat correctly this regencies my husband they another said how stupid we were and she was already annoyed no one offered customer service or a simple hi we have been to Einstein's and usually they take our order and then we pay no big deal if they want to switch the rules just explain I they got so tired of the disrespect that I clapped my hands to get the group of girls attention and told them hey if you want to say stuff about my husband and I you can say it to my face she of course denied it strange just own it and then I proceed to let them know that I understand it's early in the morning I needed some instruction she said it's not morning and laughed strange I said last time I checked it was almost 8am then she starts yelling I would appreciate you not use the R word not sure what that meant I would hope it wasn't a reference to racist since I am Asian? She also said to my husband when he was ordering he pointed to the pizza bagel which he loves she said ummm there is a lot of choice which one he pointed to the pepperoni picture she said again which one then the cashier looked over at the group of girls and rolled her eyes that's when we walked out and they proceeded to try and argue sad I would like a response back from corporate in regards to this thank you

Yelp
Attention Einstein Bagels on Guadalupe: Allowing your business partner, Republic Parking Enforcement, to place that wheel boot on my daughter's vehicle approximately 3 minutes after she purchased a bagel from your establishment and was your customer was really not a good idea. Attention Republic Parking Enforcement: Writing that my daughter was not a customer of this Einstein location on her "parking ticket" (when, in fact, she was a customer) was really, really not a good idea. Attention Fellow Yelpers: If you are reading this and you (or someone you know) have had a car booted at this Einstein Bagels location by their business partner Republic Parking Enforcement AFTER YOU (OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW) WAS A CUSTOMER WHO PURCHASED GOODS HERE, please contact me via PM.

Yelp
The three girls working on July 18 were extremely rude. They said they were closing 20 minutes before closing time, lied about an online order. And then after deciding to make the bagels put the tiniest bit of cream cheese on each. Completely unacceptable.
google avatar

Aaron K.

Yelp
Trash a** bagel. How do you burn a bagel when all you do is make bagels? Honestly, I'm kinda offended and obviously annoyed. They also changed their coffee to some new hipster stuff and it's trash too. They call this coffee, "cold press" and it's just watered down iced coffee. Not good at all. No option for any sugar except outta that thing that like pours raw sugar like all the old people use with coffee but like hit a homie up with some stevia? Idk. Not a good time. Wasted $7. A burnt bagel????
google avatar

JB H.

Yelp
Ordered a breakfast sandwich without cheese, which didn't reflect on my receipt. Was told the people making it would know however when my sandwich came out (surprise surprise) it had cheese on it. Not a big deal, I can take it off myself. But I was absolutely disgusted when I opened it up and saw 3 dark ass hairs that were immediately visible. This is without a doubt the hairiest meal I've ever gotten from a fast food place. This place is gross, definitely never coming back

Estelle S.

Yelp
The workers scurry around the stores with unprofessional behavior. When we ordered they said "this is why we drink energy drinks" even though I was just ordering their smoothie. Along with that I ordered the avocado toast. It came with three pieces of avocado that covered 50% of the bagel. The rest of the everything bagel was not fresh nor flavored. They were constantly chugging energy drinks and their cashier management was completely disorganized. When I ordered(not at the cashier as directed) she yelled at me to go to the cashier to order a smoothie because she doesn't "take drink orders"...I waited 20 minutes to get my food Lastly, they lied about their closing time....come on.*UT CAMPUS LOCATION**

Yelp
Yummy! I love bagels! Probably one of my top five breakfast foods to eat in the morning. The Einstein Bros. Bagels on Guadalupe is perfect for any student heading to campus to get a quick bite to eat, or a way to re-energize your day. I went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago to meet with a friend for a one-on-one. When you walk in, you are entering the presence of fresh bagels with tasty "shmears" and open spaces for sitting and dining. There are some outlets to do studying along the walls, but the space is relatively open for an "unplugged" environment. The bagels are outstanding, hitting my top three are: 1) Everything Bagel with Smoked Salmon Shmear, 2) Asiago Cheese Bagel with Garden Veggie Shmear and 3) Plain Bagel with Regular Cream Cheese Shmear. Can't go wrong with any of their wonderful choices!

Yelp
It's about principle. So, I decided to choose Einstein's over my typical trip to the Starbucks across street. Get a sandwich for a change a heartier one that will fill me. I choose a Chorizo Sunrise with two eggs. Sounds like a good idea right?! Refuse a receipt, grab my sandwich and whisk away to work. I arrive at work make some coffee and get ready to chow down to find I had NO EGGS on my sandwich. Lol. Hungry and now at a loss of time to go back and get a replacement I eat it sadly. Return to the shop the next morning, I let the cashier know I got a sandwich with no eggs (same cashier as yesterday). She creates the obligatory horror face of empathy. Then pauses not sure what do, I then say you know what I will have another. At that point I had not expectation of getting a free one to compensate their shortcomings. I refuse my receipt. After paying, I go and wait for my sandwich and watch the cashier talk with the manager about my situation. The cashier then comes to ask me if I had my receipt from yesterday. And as I did today I refused my receipt yesterday. The cashier looked at me with disappointment and walked away. (No compensation for me I assume cause I had no evidence of my purchase a mere 24 hrs earlier. I posed no fight. Got my sandwich (checked it of course) and left. I won't be going back for anything now. Back to Starbucks I go. Meh!

Natalie A.

Yelp
I honestly just feel bad for the staff at this Einstein's. There only seems to be a few of them and there were probably over 20 people waiting on orders. The bagels here are just bad compared to other Einstein's locations, not to mention the hours are very inconvenient as a student. The staff is doing the best they can because it's pretty obvious how overwhelmed they are. I hope management can do better for this location.

Abe F.

Yelp
I would rather drag my testicles through a field of cacti than return to this sorry excuse for an establishment. Bagels were burnt. Wait time exceeded online information by 20 minutes. Received incorrect order only to call, correct their mistake, and be greeted by another 20 minute wait. On top of it all, the food reminded me of what they served when I spent 2 years in an internment camp in the 40s. Not only do I not recommend, it would be in a potential eaters best interest to stay as far away as possible.

Yelp
Service: 3 | Quality: 4 | Setting: 4 | Value: 4 Must get: Vanilla Hazelnut Coffee, Bagel Toppers Einstein's is my go-to place near campus for breakfast. Who needs tacos when you can get two halves of a bagel topped with nutella, bananas, cucumbers, shmear, etc. for less than $4? Add on a small coffee, especially the super flavorful hazelnut brew, to round out your morning. They're usually really busy so don't expect the most attentive service, but if I'm on a tight schedule too it doesn't bother me. Their bagels aren't dense at all, taste really fresh, and there's enough options to satisfy everyone. If you need to study, whether by yourself or in a big group, there's plenty of table space! Affordable, tasty, and convenient.

Yelp
It breaks my heart to give any Einsteins a bad review but this place has not aged well over the years. I was famished on an early Sunday morning so I headed over expecting bagels, schmeary goodness, and lots of nostalgia. As I eagerly tore into my Santa Fe egg sandwich however, I was only met with disappointment. Two bites in, my sandwich started falling apart. It was pretty sloppily made and half of my sandwich came with a mysterious green smear, which turned out to be avocado...I guess from the prep line?? (cross contamination warning!!) For the other half of my sandwich - the sausage patty they used must have been freezer burnt or something because it was brown, dry, hard and had the unfortunate texture of cardboard. In my opinion, I would expect better from the employees... Like maybe a quality check on food components before they slap it together and give it to a customer. This Einstens visit was one of my worst. Be careful if you have food allergies because they clearly haven't fixed their cross contamination issues.

Yelp
This place is alright and gets 3 stars since there isn't anywhere else nearby that has competition in the morning (Panera Bread is pretty far from campus). Also, everyone loves free bagel offers and thats the main reason why I dragged myself out of bed early to come here. Pretty standard fare, but was really surprised they ran out of several varieties of bagels by 10am on the day I went. The shmears are really nice (light and fluffy) but really expensive (a shmear is almost the same cost as a whole tub of cream cheese?). Once again yay for the coupons. Their drinks are pretty decent too. I've tried the blackberry lemonade but it's a bit too sweet for my liking. Coffee is coffee to me. I'll probably swing by one day and try a lunch item.

Yelp
Lifelong customer lost forever! I go to UT and frequently go to the chase bank a few doors down. One day I parked here and sure enough my car got booted when I came back from the bank. The lady with the booting company was so rude when I simply asked "what do I need to do?" I literally left crying and $150 our of my bank account. Recently one of my friends REALLY wanted a bagel so we went and I ordered an everything bagel with salmon cream cheese. I got an everything bagel with SWEET POTATO cream cheese. I told the cashier that it was definitely not salmon and I didn't want to wait for another one because I was short on time so I scraped off my sweet potato cream cheese and tried to eat it with the salmon. Overall I'm done with their bagels there are plenty of better options in Austin. And if you really want a bagel near campus just go to Starbucks! UPDATE: unfortunately I love bagels and had to stop in one morning. The manager was so rude. When he handed me my bagel he basically shoved it into my hand. I know it wasn't just me because I watched him do it to everyone else before me.

Yelp
Everybody working here: you are so friendly and awesome at your jobs. Keep it up. I came in a few days ago to get a bagel bucket for the office and everyone helping me was so friendly and helpful for a weekday morning. Also, the bagel bucket is a really good deal - 13 bagels with two tubs of cream cheese for about $15. That's like 15 meals, if you like bagels. I'm assuming if you're going to Einstein's you already know bagels, but my favorites are the everything, the asiago cheese, and the raisin. The whipped cream cheese has a strange consistency but it tastes good. Also, Einstein's has donated day-old bagels to many volunteer events I've helped coordinate. Rock on! Y'all are great.

Tracy B.

Yelp
I give it a two star because the bagels are pretty good but the customer service is not I waited 15 min for 1 bagel people that was behind me all got their bagel and left and I still was waiting I won't go back their I felt because if my color they did that to me

Mik F.

Yelp
This place literally stole from my friends and I. Ordered a nova lox bagel, sausage egg and cheese sandwich, and a cinnamon sugar bagel with honey almond schmear. Drove a ways to pick it up. When we got home we opened the bag and this is what we got LMAOOO no cream cheese on the cinnamon bagel, 1 micro smear of cream cheese on the nova lox, and the sausage egg and cheese sandwich was COMPLETELY missing. Which is fine, mistakes happen (not usually like this though) BUT when we called them they refused to refund us and had zero intention of re making our order (you could tell they didn't want to because of how busy they were) the lady literally said "I'm not sure where my manager is right now so I'm not sure if we can help you with the issue." The WORST customer service I have ever experienced to this day. Never had a s*** list until now & they're the only ones on it. I never write reviews but this one had to happen.

Yelp
When you call an Einstein Bagel Bros to preorder some bagels and the girl on the phone puts you on a not-so-silent hold to discuss her break with the boss for 6 minutes, you probably have a biased opinion of this place before you walk in the door. Not only was the girl on the phone rude, but I think it must have been her first day, since she had to ask all the questions. I wanted to preorder a couple dozen bagels for an evening event, but since they closed at 2PM, I needed to do it in the morning. I called and they don't do phone orders, couldn't hold that many bagels for me, and wouldn't let me prepay on the phone. I get policies and such, but had I been at the store in the morning I could've ordered as many as I'd like. Why can't I do that early and over the phone? By the time I went to pick up the bagels they would let me hold (just 13), I was frustrated and ready to pen a 2-star review, but damn if this place didn't change my mind. The staff was extremely helpful, courteous and fun. When I walked in they had just witnessed a homeless man steal the bathroom key and make a mess (which I can only imagine what was). It makes you realize that they have it tough. Really tough. But they handled such a shitty (heh) situation with unfathomable grace. 5 stars to the people who work here. It's so often that we judge a business based on a solo interaction and are quick to dismiss it all together, but this experience reminded me that the service industry isn't pretty and some days are just bad days, not bad businesses.

Yelp
I never really had a problem with Einstein Bros Bagels until today. I usually go because it's a convenient location before I have to go to work. However, their customer service is absolutely horrible. Surprisingly, they were not busy during lunch hour and so I was checked out faster than I expected. Yet, as I waited for my order I slowly started to notice that people who had ordered after me were getting their order before me. At that point of time, I had already waited 20 minutes for my order which was just a turkey tornado with a side of potato salad. When I pointed this out to the cashier, patiently waiting for him to check out the last person, before informing him. He went to the other 4 workers to ask them when my order would be made. They told informed him that it would be soon but proceeded to make 3 more orders that were not mine. Unapologetically, they finally gave me my order...but by then my patience was gone. Bagels are decent enough but seriously? NOT EVEN WORTH IT. I'm going somewhere else on the drag for lunch.

Yelp
My favorite bagel to get is the spinach florentine bagel with light plain or onion and chives shmear. It can get pretty busy in the morning, so make sure you're prepared for that, but the line does move pretty fast! If you sign up for their emailing list, they always send you deals like $1 off or BOGO bagel sandwiches.

Yelp
I stopped coming to this location a while back because it went downhill quite a bit, and doesn't seem to have gotten any better. Came to get a sandwich and they are out of the bread it comes on, out of potato salad, and out of every kind of chips except one. Also, nobody will help you if you stand in front of the "order here" sign, because that's not where they take orders. Oh, and as I'm standing here writing this review, they wondered what I was waiting on. Turns out they lost my order. Good grief. Gift cards are the only thing that will keep me coming here, and that's a maybe.

Yelp
It doesn't take Einstein to know that with UT across the street, you pretty much have a captive audience here. It's a nice, large building with fairly high ceilings and a pleasant atmosphere, and a lot of people come here to study and hang out. So the good bagels tend to run out fairly quickly. My advice is to get there fairly early for breakfast or lunch to make sure you have the best selection. I wish they'd clean the restrooms better. You do need to grab a key from the register, because it's the Drag and they're trying, but really, clean restrooms make people feel so much better about there possibly being a clean kitchen.

Yelp
I have been going to einsteins for as long as I can remember, all though I don't usually come to this location. Today my friend and I stopped in on my way to class and ordered a turkey sausage, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel and I ordered a pumpkin bagel with pumpkin shmear. My friends bagel came on a plain bagel with bacon not turkey sausage. My bagel came with the saddest amount of shmear I have ever seen from an einsteins (usually I have shmear coming out the sides while I eat). Will not return to this location.

Yelp
Their card reader at the register was broken and they forced me to tip $1 for my $2 coffee. I came in the next day expecting to get better service but they refused to give me a $2 coffee without paying the $1 tip because the reader didn't work.

Yelp
This was a great experience because of Charmaine. Charmaine was at the register and extremely friendly. I was having issues using my coupon on my app but she told me dont worry because she would look me up in the system. After she applied the discount from what she found in the system, I asked her to help me with the app and she did. I would go there again if I wanted a bagel just because of Charmaine. I think her customer service made the bagel taste better (I like and appreciate good service). But note I parked in the back and walked into the front of the store off Guad and when I came back to my car it had a boot on my tire. The parking attendant realized right away as I walked back to Einstein's and they took the boot off. I was maybe gone 15mins. So if you go, make sure to walk into the back entrance if you park in their lot or you may get a boot.

Yelp
This is probably the restaurant that makes me the MOST mad. I have been living in this area for three years now and every morning i wake up and say mmmm i could go for a tuna salad bagel or a chicken salad bagel, and everY. SINGLE. TIME. i go to this terrible establishment they say they are "out" . the audacity! every time! i even call ahead to see if they have it! sometimes i wake up at the crack of dawn to see if they really "ran out" and guess what? they don't. BRING BACK TUNA SALAD AND CHICKEN SALAD ! i am hungry and sad.
