How to Pressure Cook with a Portuguese Copper Cataplana - Eater

"The steam also condenses and then falls back on the dish, like a constant 'aromatic rain,' according to chef José Pinheiro, owner of the A Eira do Mel restaurant in Vila do Bispo and one of the best cataplana cooks in the Algarve. 'There is no dispersion of liquids, enhancing all the flavors. Everything is concentrated, and the aromas you get are incomparable,' Pinheiro says. 'I love when one side of the fish is cooked in the broth that gathers at the bottom of the cataplana and the other part is just steamed on top.'" - Rafael Tonon

Excellent food, every single dish we ordered was absolutely incredible. The restaurant was recommended by a waiter in Lagos and he was spot on to say the best cataplana in the Algarve. Beutiful traditional Portuguese style decor and cosy. Highly recommend

Highly recommend off the beaten path authentic português cuisine near Sagres and Lagos. We enjoyed peixe cataplana with nice wine options and dessert. The service was wonderful with a calming homey atmosphere.

We really enjoyed our meal here and the service was lovely. The shrimp cataplana was absolutely delicious with the rice scented with cardamom. Local rosé wine went really well with it. It was very quiet as right at the beginning of the tourist season on a cold, wet day, but still friendly. We enjoyed the snacky carrots with cumin! Lovely.

Paula the owner and waitress is absolutely amazing! She will do everything to enjoy yourself! Her husband leads the kitchen, which serves dishes you will not have anywhere else! For us it was an ad-hoc, but great choice for something special at a great atmosphere!

Amazing people and food! One of our favorite restaurants for sure 👌 The food is made with incredible local ingredients and is the simply delicious and the owner and staff couldn’t be kinder and more attentive. If you haven’t been you need to go!

Food is okay, but owner is not welcoming at all. Do not recommend because of the service! 1) Owner complained about our delay in a rude way (15min) even though the restaurant was completely empty. 2) We brought our baby (2 months old) and my wife went to feed in a separate dining room which was empty and dark - owner said in a rude way once again “this is a public place not your home” and in the end said “babies are not welcome” and complained we didn’t warn them about the baby during the reservation even though we did (we warned her husband that picked up the phone) I recommend you go to a much better place next doors called “Ribeira do Poço”
