Tokaji Aszú in Cocktails – The Next Big Thing?

"At Niklas Ekstedt’s fire-driven restaurant in the Great Scotland Yard London hotel I tried Amber of Tokaj, which centers Juliet Victor Late Harvest Tokaj and deepens it with smoky whisky, crème d’abricot, a drop of tobacco grappa and bitters for a radiant balance of sweetness and flame; the cocktail’s embers and framed radiance make it an ideal match for the restaurant’s flambadou scallop with Ibérico lardo and damson plum, where the preserved plum heightens the Tokaji’s sun-dried fruit notes and the lardo complements the smoky, tobacco edge." - Lane Nieset

"Niklas Ekstedt’s first restaurant outside Sweden is this cosy, designer-rustic spot in the Great Scotland Yard Hotel. The chef has become synonymous with his wood-fired cooking techniques, so expect dishes cooked over or immersed into the embers – whether its seaweed-baked langoustine or pine-smoked wild duck breast. Plenty of pickled, fermented and cured ingredients also do their bit to transport Nordic flavours to central London. Choose between a 5 or 7 course tasting menu, or treat yourself at the Chef's Table for a special occasion." - Michelin Inspector

Goodness, what an experience! Ekstedt at the Yard was outstanding from start to finish. The fire‑driven cooking gave every dish a deep, smoky complexity, from the trout with vegetable foam and dill to the hay‑smoked sirloin with cherry. A delight for the palette. A highlight was my invitation to see the chefs at work in the kitchen as they prepared my oyster for me. Yum!! Service was faultless - attentive without ever feeling intrusive. and Yousef in particular was fantastic, I found him to be really warm yet professional. Would I recommend - yes I would! I will be back, for a special occasion, because this was indeed a very special experience.

I only tried the Sunday roast experience so might be different Overall it was good but won’t keep a big memory of the place as nothing really stood out Even though it’s marketed online as £35 pr Emerson everything around is expensive (£4 per person for a slice of bread??) - and with service charges it will likely be more around £50 I feel like the food was cooked well and that smoked taste is very interesting, but the plates were not balanced enough - the meat portion were just enormous compared to vegetables / carbs portion so I feel like it was a bit of waste just to have huge plates (look at the picture for the chicken takes 1/2 of the plate) But the setting was really nice, calm, with Christmas decoration - so a good moment but nothing extraordinary

It would be a shame to give this place just 4 stars — I’m not even talking about 3 or 2. Absolutely everything was perfect, from the service to the food, and how we were treated. They even invited us into the kitchen, which was a very special experience. Each dish was better than the one before — truly impressive. I always choose restaurants very carefully, and I can proudly say that this one is going straight to the top of my list. The atmosphere was also really pleasant. Definitely coming back.

One of the few restaurants in London with genuinely attentive service from start to finish. Delicious tasting menu and wines. It's interesting that they only use fire to cook food, no ovens, no electric grill. Visiting the chef's kitchen was a pleasant surprise. A really good value for money (which is rarely the case for restaurants by Michelin-starred chefs in London). Thank you team!

Amazing dinner experience. Located in the Scotland Yard hotel. The food is really fabulous and the wine pairing was fantastic. Wine I didn't like by itself but with the food was fabulous. So cool how it actually changes with the food.

Amazing experience in this unique restaurant. We tried the Scandinavian journey experience+ the volcanic wines pairing. We particularly loved the lobster and the fir potatoes dishes. Insanely delicious sauce and smokey flavours. The step that involved seeing the oyster being cooked in the kitchen was particularly fun and unexpected. The wine pairings were in general very good. We normally don't like white wines that much but these ones particularly well chosen and not too acidic / sour for our taste. The only thing we found a bit off was how long it took us to be served from the moment we arrived (about half an hour). Overall the dinner was fantastic, bold flavours, lots of theatrics and creative food combinations. It was lovely to celebrate my birthday here. Thanks
