I visited this establishment for the first time on Saturday, accompanied by my best friend. The red sauce chicken enchiladas were exceptional, and the experience reminded me of a Mexican restaurant located in downtown Oakland. The chicken was rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. I also enjoyed a blueberry margarita, which featured fresh-tasting tequila that contributed to a delightful experience. I intend to return; however, there are areas for improvement, particularly concerning the service. Our server was courteous but seemed to overlook our needs at times. Additionally, we ordered takeout due to the generous portions, and it appeared there was a reluctance to provide extra chips.

I had the carnitas enchilada lunch special. I liked it! For a meal, I thought it was missing vegetables. A serving of salad would have completed it. They served the usual chips 'n salsa before they brought in the main meal. As for the ambiance, it did feel like a Mexican restaurant, with vibrant colors of decor. All in all, it was a positive experience!

Great vibe here is really good. The food was amazing and drinks awesome. Lots of options for vegetarians. The portion sizes are so huge that my wife and I had to split the meal.

I’ve lived in the area for about a year and haven’t managed to try this place out yet! A wonderful sit down experience, perfect sized restaurant too. Staff were very nice and even sang to celebrate someone’s birthday near us. We ordered a spicy chile liquor drink and it was definitely a strong drink. Street tacos and red enchiladas were absolutely amazing, major compliments to the shrimp tacos as well the shrimp is amazing. Will definitely be coming here again.

Google
We love the food here. Authentic food, great flavors and plating! Large portions so definitely come ready to eat or take home for lunch for the week. The family staff makes you feel at home. They are all wonderful and will get you what you need. We had to wait for our check for a bit at lunch time. Also, tables are limited for such an in-demand place. The food is worth the wait!

I got the Carne Asada torta and it was great! Far too big for me to finish in one sitting, but it was a great lunch the next day. Atmosphere was really nice lots of televisions to watch the game and they have a full bar.

Google
I found this place by chance. I ordered a burrito, quesadilla, and had some drinks. The portions are good, and drinks also good. You can easily past this place due to location, but don’t pass it by. Service and staff are amazing, and very friendly. I will be back.

Great experience! Love the chips and salsa and every food they bring to us! Ver satisfying for a Friday night dinner.

Yelp
Our family loves El Agavero. Indoor dining has a nice atmosphere and TVs if you want to keep up on a sports game, but they also have outside seating which is enjoyable as well. The servers are friendly. And the food is delicious. My favorite is the fish taquitos--best fish tacos I have ever had. I also enjoy their margaritas. Free chips/salsa is a nice touch. It's also good for kids given the low-key environment.

Yelp
El Agavero is a Mexican restaurant and tequilla bar in Oakland's Montlcair neighborhood, it has been there for decades, I'm assuming under the same ownership the whole time. I've always gotten their super burrito's which are not just large but they're tasty too, I usually order them with al pastor (grilled spicy pork). As of last week the Super Burrito's were $20, but the price matched up with the massiveness of the burrito. I had it for lunch, packed up the leftovers and had that for most of my dinner. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I will say, I've seen Mexican folks eat there, one of the ways to tell whether an ethnic restaurant is good/tasty/authentic. I haven't tried their tequilla or cocktails.

Yelp
This review is for their lunch service. Overall: 3 stars for getting lots of food for your money and very clean restroom facilities. Staff - They were very kind but service was slow despite there not being a lot of people in the restaurant on the Satuday afternoon we dined. At one point, I had to go over to the bar and get the items I had previously asked for and not yet received. Since I have never been there before, I could not determine if this was an exception, rather than the norm. It seems like a popular place. Food - That was my biggest complaint. I do want to stress that servings are plentiful. I ordered the Chile Relleno lunch special and it was not good. I couldn't identify the coating (and it was hard to cut through to get to the chile and cheese.) And once you did get to it, there was very little chile or cheese. In fact, very sparse. The rice was OK. The pinto beans needed just a bit more cooking. There was a pickled carrot on the side, which was hard to chew and overly-pickled. But the biggest transgression was how salty the food was. I was only able to eat a little for fear my blood pressure would skyrocket because of the high salt content. I mentioned it to the waitress when she asked if I wanted a take-out container. Of course, my answer was NO ! My mom had the tamale lunch and she said it was good. She has dementia so I wouldn't hold a lot of weight to her comment. Food was piled high on the plate and I could not see any tamale. Perhaps the biggest bone of contention I had with this restaurant was how thin and cheap the silverware was. It was laborious trying to cut, eat the heavy food with such small utensils. Think "dollar store" type dining ware. Consider bringing your own (smile) if you want sturdy, larger utensils. I would if I were to return (but not likely- return that is). Despite this review, it appears to be a popular place. Perhaps, I am missing something. Perhaps, it is because the restaurant is one of two in the area and just convenient. Actually, the second one, I prefer better. But its menu and seating is limited. Drinks: I only got water but the BAR MENU had its own book of drinks of everything imaginable. I wondered about the quality of the drinks given the food. But it is not fair to critique something I did not order or taste. Tortilla Chips: THEY WERE VERY GOOD AND SERVED WARM. Finally, I wasn't a fan of the food quality and would not return. Worth repeating: The staff was very lovely and friendly.

Yelp
El Agavero was a pleasant surprise for us. They offer a typical selection of Mexican food, burgers, and a few Mexican house specialties. I enjoyed the pollo a la crema which was strips of grilled chicken, tomatoes, onions and peppers all cooked up in a creamy chipotle sauce, served with tortillas and a side of rice and beans. The food quantity was enormous and we got chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. What really shines is their bar selection with a variety of specialty cocktails. If you sit at the bar they don't have the cocktail menu out so you'll need to ask for that or the friendly bartender will set you up well. There are TVs so you can watch sports while you're there. Good family-friendly atmosphere with lots of tables in the dining room.

Yelp
Since moving from the central valley (decades ago now, yeesh), I've been missing good homestyle Mexican sit down cuisine. El Agavero can fill that void for me up in the hills. They started putting down the chips and salsa before I even sat down! The service here was so good that even when the tables all filled up at dinner, someone came by every few minutes to make sure we were okay. The two item enchilada and chile relleno dinner plate was enough for three meals, so while the cost is high, the value is appropriate. I favor non-breaded, roasted poblano-only rellenos, but everything was still fresh and delicious. Their homemade salsa was perfect. The jamaica (hibiscus) margarita was also a highlight, and I look forward to trying more of their many delicious-looking margaritas in the months to come.

Yelp
I've been going to El Agavero since high school and it's still the best Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area. The food has always been amazing and my favorite is the large portions of everything. A burrito is my go to as always. But, it's not just any burrito...I want one a ginormous one that reminds me of the size of a one month old infant. lol. And this place always delivers with large sides of guacamole, sour cream, and pickled veggies. The flavor is always delicious and leaving you with wanting more. They also have a great selection of margaritas and alcoholic beverages. Anyone that I've brought to El Agavero through the years has always loved it. The staff are friendly and welcoming. There's ample seating indoors and some for outdoors. I'm just dreaming of my next burrito visit as I type this out. There's plenty of street parking usually.

Yelp
I don't normally leave reviews, but I ordered rice and beans yesterday as the only thing I could stomach while sick. This is a very simple meal and I thought I couldn't go wrong, right? Wrong. The rice was still hard. Uncooked. I gave multiple chances and took multiple bites from multiple different areas but the rice was hard. Very unappetizing. I am disappointed :(.

Yelp
Came here a few times for lunch.. I usually make a phone order and pickup to go.. Mondays special for the burrito with a soft drink .. can't go wrong.. I didn't realize until my coworker told me they have another location in Oakland . I would have never thought Guadalajara by Fruitvale bart station.. this location is nice and spacious. Can be busy during lunch hour.. they have a few tables outside to eat So far I've had the steak and chicken burrito and the chicken salad. The salad was good and was big enough I had it for lunch and dinner..my only complaint was this dressing they could have a better vinaigrette..

chuck ..

Yelp
Best restaurant I've ran into thus far. I would definitely go back to have a drink and dinner. This is also a great place to take your family 10 outta 10 fashodoe

Yelp
Food was tasty, ambiance was nice, but the margaritas were really sad (so weak, like drinking juice). I had high hopes on the margaritas given the extensive drink menu, but I guess they are all about the mixers rather than the tequila. We'll probably be back though since the fajitas were epic and good

Yelp
My boyfriend has been coming here ever since he was a kid! So I was excited to try this place for a week day lunch meeting. Portions are great, lots of table seating, as well as a few tables outside. The service at this restaurant was quick and the location has fun Halloween decor for the holiday. We ordered the plate with two chimichangas, portions are perfect sharing size. Wings were tasty and tangy.

Yelp
East bay burrito #39 Initial taste 5/7 Meat 5/7 Beans 5/7 Rice 4/7 Cheese 6/7 Onions and cilantro 4/7 Tortilla 4/7 Overall 5/7 It's been a long time since I've eared here and mostly because my previous experiences were never that good. Perhaps owners or cooks have changed since? Either way, it's much better than before. The beans went from a soupy, acidic tasting thing to a more flavorful and improved texture thing. This is not apart of the burrito review but as a side, the cucumber margarita was very drinkable, however the decor is still a little dated.

Yelp
This is a solid Mexican restaurant in the Montclair neighborhood. I came here Sunday afternoon for lunch. The menu is quite extensive for a Mexican restaurant. The vibe and wide open atmosphere is nice. We ordered a couple items: Super Famoso Burrito $19.99 : this is a large burrito with enchilada sauce spread across the top. It was a solid meal. Combination Fajitas $30 : good portion of chicken, shrimp, and steak along with rice, beans, and tortillas. They skimped on the tortillas but I would think if we asked for more they would offer them. The service was a little neglectful but if I got up and chased them down they were happy to help. Overall I thought the food was good but it came at premium prices. For our two entrees and two diet cokes, it came out to $63 without adding the tip yet. So above $70 something for lunch. But still a nice Mexican spot to eat at.

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff, excellent margaritas! The place is buzzing with fun energy

Yelp
Nephew and I decided wanted Mexican food while we had time to have his car fixed. My first time but it was after noon and I was starved. We sat in a booth and as we sat the server brought us a basket of chips and salsa. The menu is very extensive. Nephew had a bougie beer and since I wasn't driving I ordered a margarita. OH YUM! The restaurant is very clean and spacing between tables and booth made me feel comfortable. I had the lunch special verde carnitas enchilada with rice. It was delicious but I could have used a bit more sauce (my preference since I love green sauce). Nephew had a torta with fries and of course I had to sample the fries. Since both of us were hungry and woofed the basket of chips while our order was taken, we responded "YES" when the server asked if we wanted more chips. Food was just right, good temperature and just yummy! Thank you to the staff. I'll ask to go back!! I'd like to rate 4.95 only due to I'd have like more verde sauce. Next time I'll ask for more.

Yelp
A few colleagues met for lunch yesterday. The service was excellent, Raul and his team went out of their way to make sure our luncheon went well. The staff were friendly, and polite. The food was delicious, lunch specials were priced well. Food was hot and tasty. They also have a fun happy hour. The restaurant is always busy with local customers.

Yelp
This is a nice family restaurant. Easy place to grab food and take the kids. It's nice that they have a full bar, and the service is always great. Food quality is above average, and quantity is generous. Overall, great value and a nice casual restaurant!

Yelp
Delicious Mexican food. Highly recommended. Order at counter, they bring it to your table. A slight step up from the average casual taqueria, but not fancy either. Big servings, friendly service. The super burrito I ordered was nearly the size of a child's leg. I had to resort to knife and fork, instead of hoisting it to my mouth like a proper burrito should be eaten. In addition, hand-feeding with a food log this big, you would need to unhinge your jaw like a boa constrictor consuming an unfortunate fawn. It's debatable whether a meal you have trouble picking up and eating by hand, could be defined as a a burrito. I'll leave that debate up to philosophers. But it was fantastic al pastor, and I couldn't stop scarfing it down. I consumed more calories in one sitting than some families on Thanksgiving . It was a mix between shame and bliss. I'll be back after the next bike ride in the hills, and after a two day fast to make up for what I know will happen.

Yelp
Raul, waiter was a SCAM artist. Party of 4 with a not so good service where we had to raise our hands to get attention at-least 4 times on a slow night. Had to raise our hand 4 times just to get attention to order and refill our chips. Final check came in with added 45% Gratuity for a party of 4. Luckily we caught it and confronted Raul and ofcourse he denied and it's a system error. System don't automatically add 45% gratuity. He wanted the check back but we kept it as a proof. Asked for the manager and Bartender pretending to be a manager thought it was very minor and made us feel it happens in the establishment a lot. I know times are tough, provide a good service and you will get your tips don't CHEAT customers. Please double check what you pay specially at this establishment!

Yelp
First they have one of the best tequila selections I have seen almost anywhere. Off hand I really can't think of a location with more. They also have that other stuff like bourbon, scotch, vodka etc. So it's one thing to have the spirits on hand but its more important what they do with them.  The drinks here are the best.  The bartenders totally know what they are doing and it's not a one size fits all like Sutter Medical with your medical care. Sorry I digress. You can ask for any variation you want and they are good with it. Also beer selection looks and they have wine.  More on the wine later. The food is great we have split burritos and shrimp fajitas. The menu is extensive we will try more. We are here typically once a week. The staff is awesome. I'm  not sure but it appears a lot of relatives work here so prolly a true family operation. The bar is way cool.  We have never sat at a table inside or out but they are there. So if there are any down thumbs they are these: The ice tea is dispensed from the soda gun. So a concentrate mixed with water on the fly. Not a fan. Next thing up until now the wine was Line 39. Totally lacking. But today I noticed a Bogle Cabernet Sav on the counter so not steller but way much better. And of course the standard Mexican music. I can handle some but not when I'm killing an afternoon at the bar. Which brings up one of the really fine points. And they are....... Later in the day Tito bartends and switches the music to Euro pop. Think Purple Disco  Machine. After spending the last half year abroad, I appreciate the Eastern European/European  music a lot. So also Tito knows his tequila and mezcal. If you aren't sure and want to try stuff wait till he is in the house. Plus he never let's your drink go dry.

Yelp
I have eaten here only twice. 1st time was the week they opened years ago when I ordered a combo dinner with tacos and chile relleno. The food was mediocre at best (not much flavor). I ended up with food poisoning and refused to go back until this year. My partner talked me into giving it another chance, as it is owned by family members of some very close friends. I really wanted it to be good. When we walked in, only one other table was occupied and the reggaeton music was so loud that we couldn't hear what the waiter was saying. We had to ask several times to place our order and ended up shouting at each other to hear. I ordered a chile relleno and chicken tamale combo. The totopos were very greasy and thick / chewy. The rice was leftover and reheated. The black beans were barely cooked - crunchy. The relleno was fresh, but the batter was too heavy and there wasn't much queso or flavor. The tamale was 80% masa, with leathery, dried-out, flavorless chunks of chicken. The portions were huge but it was way expensive (close $50 per person with tips & no drinks). Sorry, but there are so many tastier, fresher options in the Bay Area. I won't be wasting my time or money on this place again. Growing up eating high quality Mexican food in San Francisco's Mission district, and in Oakland's Fruitvale, this level of inedible cuisine is unforgivable, especially at this price point. The take - out from the burrito shop next door is much higher quality at a fraction of the price.

Rulon D.

Yelp
The food is very good. I ordered takeout and discovered an item missing when I got home. The chili relleno comes with beans of your choice. It is listed on the menu and was listed on my email and printed receipts. When I called to report the missing pinto beans, I was told chili relleno was served ala carte. No big deal about missing beans, but a big problem with the dishonesty. I will not go back.

Yelp
Best spicy margaritas! Love the music and ambiance. Traditional Mexican cuisine, cannot be beat. Chips and salsa are to die for, yumm yumm!

Yelp
I walked in tonight to order. I sat and was not asked what I wanted. Several tables arrived after me and their orders were taken and they were long and complex. When I finally got service I asked - politely - for my order to be put in ahead of the tables that arrived after me because I was in a bit of a rush. The response was that I "should not be in a hurry". Whatever that means. I walked out.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. The complimentary chips and salsa are amazing. The service alright but the employees are really nice. Super juicy tacos and burritos and some things are at a good price. The one problem is the price of some items. Some things are very expensive. Me personally, I always get the street tacos and their delicious for a good price. Overall, a great option for mexican food in Montclair.

Yelp
Holly Guacamole. Just got done with a fishing trip me and my buddy. Found this spot to grab something to eat and the vibe said beach friendly / Mexican cantina vibes. The Waiter Suggested the Molcajete so delicious!! Had Grilled Prawns/ Steak Strips / Cheese / Avocados/ bunch of other goodies that all blended so well together. I felt like I was tasting something off of a cooking show! Amazing!

Baltazar R.

Yelp
I ordered a suoer burrito the guacamole and sour cream came on the plate not the burrito. My burrito was so dry I almost dipped it in my michelada. Overpriced as well. The michelada was not that good either. Not worth the $35+

Yelp
I don't know how this restaurant can be so different than it's parent Guadalajara which is far superior to El Agavero. Where do I start?....Maybe that our latest experience there sent us over the edge and I'll never be back. The past times I've been I ordered the enchilada verde which is ok but nothing amazing. And I love corn chips but theirs are about as appealing as cardboard. Now this time, ttaqueria a few doors down was closed so I thought how bad can it be to get a few burritos from El Agavero. Oh how wrong I was. I ordered a beans, rice, cheese, lettuce burrito with mild salsa and guac on the side. The burrito was filled with cooked veggies and jalapeños. How does that happen? I only repeated the order three times and then asked her to repeat it back for good measure because she had trouble inputting it into the system. For myself, I ordered a super burrito with jalapeños. So maybe that explains the jalapeños in the other burrito but whatever. My burrito was so big it filled a large plastic container and was probably 5+ lbs. and could barely be folded. And despite having all the trimmings, was the most flavorless burrito I've ever had. For the small side of mild red salsa I ordered, I received 10, yes ten! small, plastic environmentally wasteful containers of a mix of red and green salsas. Who eats ten containers of salsa? Maybe ask a person how many they want before wasting all those containers? The small side of guacamole I ordered was just about the only thing they got right but is so bad it's practically inedible. I will add that the people are nice, and the drinks are pretty good. But I don't understand how they stay in business with such sub-par food. Go to the original Guadalajara Restaurant on Fruitvale instead. It's so much better and the people super nice.

I M A.

Yelp
The ambiance was noisy, but tolerable and understandable given that the Montclair farmer's market had just closed and people were flowing into the restaurant after that. Still I was immediately seated as a walk in. And the waiter brought out warm, thin, crisp tortilla chips that were 4.0...best part of the meal. I ordered two enchiladas verde with carne asada. The carne wasn't "asada" it was charcoal. Overcooked, dry, way too salty, and had the consistency of charcoal pellets. And the salsa verde was overshadow with sour cream that basically drown out all the other flavors. Several years ago, before the pandemic, I also went into el Agavero and ordered two enchiladas. That time they were served with cold interiors. It was clear that the enchiladas had been microwaved to heat up and they didn't heat them enough. I do not recommend this place if you are a real aficionado of comida Mexicana.

Yelp
Excellent food. It's also very cutie in there and they have a full bar. Great portions, and the regular salsa that they bring out to the table is exquisite. I will be back

Yelp
My partner and I were looking for a new place to try for lunch after our hike in the Oakland hills. Mexican sounded good, and my partner found this spot. It's an attractive and popular place - both the dining room and bar were pretty full. We sat at the bar. My tequila connoisseur partner was impressed with the tequila selections, and our friendly bartender was happy to make recommendations. They have a very extensive menu. My partner ended up having the Arte Nom Seleccion Anejo, the Jose Cuervo Reserva Reposado, and the Centenario Plata. The tequilas were served in nice shot glasses on a plate with accouterments. I went with the house margarita, and requested less agave, and it was perfect. Food wise, we split the super famoso burrito with shrimp. This burrito is huge, more than enough food for two people, and it was really delicious. We'll work off the calories in our next hike, ha. Fun environment with good music, and the bartender was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Delicious Mexican food with a nice little bar. I frequently visit this restaurant. I love sitting down for a carne asada platter,Enchiladas or soups. Everything you would want from a Mexican Restaurant. Killer margaritas and a huge Tequila selection only add to the reasons I keep coming back here.

Yelp
I had a fun time here with my children. Food and service were great. The Flan was amazing!

Yelp
Food is decent, compared to other Mexican places around this area, Ive gave this place a couple chances and have tried different plates, if you are coming here for the quesadillas I say turn around and go to a different spot, If you are looking for a decent fat burrito this is your spot, the chilaquiles are okay not spicy at all tortilla is soggy. Stay away from the tortas they are awful you would think the asada would be chopped up but it's not they just slap a big steak on the torta. this place is alright if you've never had really good Mexican food.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for breakfast to feed a Mexican food craving and had an amazing experience. I had the nopales con huevos and it was the closest thing to home made that I've had in a long time. Coffee had a "cafe de olla" taste since they use cinnamon. Service was great, all serves were friendly and attentive. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for some good, home-made-like Mexican food.

Yelp
I got chicken enchiladas verdes with refried beans and rice. Everything was SOOO BLAND, including the chips. The house margarita was OK but too sweet. The service was fine; not friendly but fine. I try to eat healthy low-carb food with fresh veggies most of the time. If I'm going to subject my body to high carbs with no veggies, I'd sure like to enjoy it more. I'm puzzled about all the reviews that say the food is good or great. Maybe if you add a lot of salsa and salt to it? Extra cheese?? I did find the atmosphere comfortable.

Yelp
4/11/22 I think I'm gonna cautiously give this place 1 more star over my last visit. No, the food ain't gonna blow you away, and no not all will even be good, but their lunch specials are legit amazing values (especially given today's insane inflation) so they deserve some credit... Lunch Special Mon-Fri 11am-2pm "served w/ rice, beans & free fountain soda" 1. Ground Beef Burrito $11.79: So get this, the special includes soda but I asked if they got juice, and the dude's like, "yeah." Um.... alright, what you got... I heard pineapple and so I'm like give me that. And sure enough, he brought over a glass pint of pineapple juice. Wow.... And that burrito, it's a frickin' yule log. I guess technically they didn't do as described since it was just the burrito and some veggies on the side, not served with rice and beans, but I guess they figured if they just put in the burrito they sorta did what they said? Haha anyway, so another part about value--they loaded it with real guac. Lots of Mex places like to skip guac, and I assume it's due to cost, or they're like gimme $2 for guac and I'll put it in. Not here. Didn't ask, and it's loaded. Just a bag of lovely saucy greasy heart attack love juice. And I loved it. 8/10 2. Taco $11.79: I don't think I tasted this (it was my gf's) but she did complain that since they only used 1 small tortilla, it was impossible to hold with you hands because it disintegrated. So....... yeah, like I said, not everything is gonna be good. 3/5 just cause of the lunch deal. I probably wouldn't come any other time. I mean, a pint of juice (or more if I get a refill?), loads of guac, and a burrito you should only finish if you intend to get on the shoe Biggest Losers..... that deserves recognition. #star #mexicanfood #mexicancuisine #groundbeefburrito

Yelp
I'm not exactly sure what to make of this restaurant. It's part bar and part restaurant. There were lots of people sitting at the bar enjoying their drinks and chips, but there is a huge seating area as well. We were with our kids and it's definitely a comfortable place for families, there were lots of kids there. We got the chips and salsa delivered to our table. The salsa had a nice amount of spice without being too hot for my children. My husband and I each ordered a house margarita. It was OK. I prefer my margaritas on the rocks and not too sweet. This margarita wasn't sweet, but it wasn't great either. If I went back, I would skip the margarita next time. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes, which were really good. My kids both ordered a bean and cheese burrito, which they liked a lot, and my husband ordered a combo with a vegetarian enchilada and a chile relleno. He loved his meal. The food was good. It's the overall vibe of the place which left me feeling not so great about the restaurant. The service was passable. We did get what we ordered, but we were ignored until we asked for the bill. We requested more chips but those were not delivered. I would have killed for some hot sauce, but nobody came over to check on us after the food was delivered. It was just an OK experience. The food was good, but I would opt to try something different if we were traveling in the area again.

Yelp
Came here for the enchiladas and drinks. The service was great, we were greeted at the door, and our waiter was a tentative. Mellow crowd, Thursdays afternoon,

Yelp
Dude and friends love Mexican food, me I just go along with it as I like to try different cuisines. And this is our first visit here as we heard this restaurant has been here for 12 years! So we came here for dinner last night as parking can be a problem on a Saturday night but we had parking karma. We got seated as soon as they set the table and it is a lively place as people were coming and going. Service was prompt and they gave us a warm basket of tortilla chips and salsa as well as a refill of both. It is a cozy place and has a bar in the front as you walk in. We ordered the two red enchiladas, burrito famoso, chorizo and egg burrito, and I had the shredded chicken enchilada and grilled chicken taco (not crispy) with refried beans and rice. And they also have breakfast and hamburgers on the menu for those who aren't into eating Mexican food Service and atmosphere is good and my entree of shredded chicken enchilada and grilled chicken taco were bland. I would come again and try the fish tacos. Maybe it will have more flavor.

Yelp
I came out to celebrate a new job venture... with my husband and BFF! Ordered a margarita with the shot on the side. The manager refused to make a margarita with the shot on the side He said I had to pay 9 dollars for a virgin margarita and 10 dollars for a shot on the side... making my margarita about 19 dollars...wth Why would they have this rule Wow! Never heard of this I have done this at many Mexican restaurants being that I don't want a full shot in my drink. Honestly this is sad Coming from a Mexican restaurant... sorry but last time I come here The food left much to be expected tasteless.... The grilled chicken taste weird and no flavor.

Yelp
I regrettably found a piece of an insect in my food (they sell waffles for breakfast here). I was 75% done before I noticed the body of the insect. I did see also see the wing nearby. Disturbing and disgusting. I agree with most other reviews that the food was bland and tasteless as well. Please don't take your money or appetite to this place.

Yelp
One of my favorite things about this place is that they actually read the special instructions on the order. No avocado. I'm allergic. I've never had avocado on an order by mistake. I appreciate this immensely. Now for the food - I've gotten food in the restaurant and take away. It's all good. Nachos, soft tacos, taquitos, fajitas ... I need to go back to try more things. Now I'm hungry.

Yelp
i ordered from Grubhub & was so happy with my order. the food is very thoughtfully packaged, portions are huge, & the flavors of the protein & salsa, as well as the cook on the flautas, were perfect.

Yelp
I chose three stars for this review because Yelp classifies it as "A-OK". That's how I feel about my visit to El Agavero. Nothing was bad, nothing was over the top great. I really like that they use black beans here. Pintos are overused. I really like chile rellenos so I get one almost everywhere. It was good but forgettable. The really impressive part of my lunch was veggie enchilada. I avoid meat and cheese enchiladas are usually overly-cheesy, so I try to shy away from them, too. But here they have a veggie enchilada on the regular menu and allowed me to choose it on my two-item combo. It was great. The downsides were the lack of hot sauce and the margarita. There was no hot sauce in a bottle on the table and the server nowhere to be found after food delivery in order to ask for something house-made. I ate my food, but it lacked zing due to no sauce other than leftover salsa from the initial chips. I ordered a house margarita at I think $12. It was bitter and I'm not sure if there was any alcohol in it. And it was delivered after my food was on the table. We ate, we paid, we left. No need to go out of our way to come back.
