The Best Tacos in Houston | Eater Houston

"Permanently parked outside North Shepherd Brewing in Garden Oaks, this Oaxacan food truck serves up tacos and street food at its finest. Choose from classics such as salted, thin-sliced beef with Oaxacan cheese, or more adventurous options of chicken mole or chapulines (roasted grasshoppers). All tacos are served in corn tortillas in sets of three or five." - Brianna Griff

Where to Find the Best Tamales in Houston | Eater Houston

"Parked at Northside brewery Astral Brewing, this food truck brings comforting and exciting street food straight from Oaxaca. Try its best-selling tlayudas, street tacos, flautas, and its deep-fried chicken tamales. A rarity in Houston but a common Oaxacan, the two tamales are steamed in their corn husks, then deep-fried and covered in sour cream, pico de gallo, and queso fresco for a decadent snack. If seeking tamales by the dozen, you’re in luck. The food truck, which also offers catering, sells chicken or rajas tamales — the latter a combination of tomatoes, onions, peppers, and cheese — by the dozen for $15. Call the truck to place your order ahead of time." - Brittany Britto Garley

18 Excellent Houston Taquerias

"Parked permanently outside Astral Brewing in Garden Oaks, this Oaxacan food truck serves up tacos and street food at its finest. Try the tlayuda — a crunchy corn tortilla topped with a chicharron spread, black beans, Oaxacan cheese, cabbage, tomato, onion, and a meat of your choice, or the deep-fried tamales, a fun twist on the traditional dish that’s topped with sour cream, pico de gallo, and queso fresco." - Brittany Britto Garley

This food truck is proudly Oaxacan and it is spectacular. The food was above and beyond my expectations in terms of presentation and taste. We also received a free cup of fideo and it was delicious. Will definitely be back.

This is 100% authentic Oaxacan food. If you want the real thing, you should try this amazing spot. Top notch service. Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing authentic food from Oaxaca, one of the best culinary regions in Mexico! Every bite brought me back home! What a fantastic discovery! My kids loved the picaditas and tacos, with hand made tortillas! And my husband and I had the Tlayuda. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service fantastic! We can’t wait to be back!

Google
We search for "Tlayudas en Houston" and this place popped up so we went to check it out. We went straight to the Tlayudas, I might add it is not the best I ever had, but for sure, it is far far away from the worst, even for a Oaxaqueño eating tlayudas in a food truck in Houston! The tortilla is really nice and has a good "crunch". The "cesina" is tasty, not too salty and very soft (they put it whole inside the Tlayuda, I personally, would have preferred it cut up). The cheese, poor but just enough! We'll be back for sure! there are a couple of things in the menu that we missed!

I dont know why this place doesn't have more reviews and why I haven't heard of it until now because this food truck is amazing. The food truck is tucked away in a lot right beside a white gas station/convenience store along with another food truck so it is a little bit hard to find, but you definitely don't want to miss out on it. They specialize in authentic Oaxacan street food and offer it at an incredibly affordable price fresh-to-order ($2 tacos!!), which is great for those looking to try something new and unique from the ubiquitous Tex-mex. I'm actually pretty surprised by the wide variety of options they offer, and I'm looking forward to trying them all out over the next few trips I take here. As my wife is pretty particular about her tortas, she ordered a customized El Chavo torta which the food truck owners readily accommodated. As more of a taco guy myself, I ordered suadero, beef, barbacoa, chicken mole, and carnitas tacos with agua de Jamaica to wash it all down. The food was phenomenal and the flavor was on point. Unlike a lot of other tacos I've had in Texas, the meat was juicy and packed with flavor (not greasy at all), the tortillas were hand-made, and there were GENEROUS mounds of meat served between TWO tortillas for each taco. They also provided some crunchy sliced radishes, lime wedges, and two salsas: a very spicy, creamy, smooth red sauce (spicy and savory) and a light mild acidic tomatillo sauce. They elevated the tacos to a whole other level. All the tacos were good, but I have to say that the barbacoa and suadero were my personal favorites. The barbacoa had an incredible depth of flavor and was crazy tender and juicy while not greasy. The bits of suadero had nice and crispy edges and a tender juicy center. The salsas were essential - next time I'll have to add a few more. I could probably use the red one on anything. I didn't get to hear what my wife thought of the torta because she scarffed it down pretty quickly and instantly went into a food coma, which I think are positive signs. The agua de Jamaica was great and refreshing too and NOT too sweet, which is the problem I often encounter with aguas frescas. Although the drink was served cold, I wish it could've had a few ice cubes to keep it ice cold. The only issue I had was that the food was a little cold by the time we got to eat it. To be fair, we did do take out but we only live 7-10 minutes away. Perhaps the food truck would benefit from wrapping the to-go tacos in aluminum foil or having some covered umbrella-tables in the lot for eating it there fresh. Regardless, the food is easily both good and affordable enough for me to look forward to the next meal here. I highly recommend anybody who likes or is interested in trying authentic Mexican food to come here!!! You won't regret it.

Google
I’m a fan of the tacos! we tried the chapolinas, the salsa and tortas are both unique and tasty.

Google
Authentic Oaxaca food. They accept cash and card. Quality of the food is very good not your average greasy food truck experience. Prices were comparable considering the freshness of the overall product. Worth the trip to try a little taste of Oaxaca.

Google
I was really stoked to try this place after reading several reviews but left thoroughly disappointed. Bought the set of 4 tacos. 2 pastor and 2 chicken mole. The pastor tacos were very subpar compared to any other pastor tacos I’ve had around Houston, probably the least tastey of any. And the chicken mole tacos were very disappointing as I thought would’ve been chicken cooked in mole to induce flavors but instead was basic boiled or grilled chicken pieces topped with a mole sauce. Not good at all. Oh well, was worth a try but I definitely won’t go back…..

Yelp
Excellent and very friendly. If I lived in Houston, I'd be there too often. I went there hoping they had Huitlacoche, which they did not. They do have it occasionally, the lovely and kind young lady that took my order explained to me. Disappointed to have visited my third place in 24 hours that did not have it, I ordered three tacos and they blew me away. I always have good food in Houston, and this trip was the very best I'd had, and this was in the top 3 dishes I had this weekend.

Yelp
This is the food truck parked in front of Astral Brewing and it is delicious! A big menu for such a tiny truck. I had the potato taquitos (you get 5 for $13) topped with green salsa (perfect amount of kick to it), cabbage, sour cream, queso fresco and cilantro. Eight things on the menu for vegetarians (black beans and potato)!

Yelp
Food is on point, service very very good. Ambience is great since you can order from the taco truck then get a couple beers from the brewery.

Yelp
Don't miss out on El Alebrije! The Food is great and always friendly and quick service!

Yelp
Possibly the best food truck in H-Town, hands-down!! Authentic Oaxacan food and legit as it gets! Recommend everyone try one or two more items while enjoying a brew at Astral Brewing. Seriously, all the options are worthy of purchase! Eat up and be super grateful you have this food truck in our fare city!

Yelp
So far, I've tried their fries with barbacoa (excellent), their taquitos dorados with chicken (good, but the chicken was a bit dry), their tetelas (also excellent) and the fried tamales...which might be the best tamales I've ever had. The churros are also great here. This place has great food, quick service, and the brewery they partner with (Astral) is a good spot to hang out and eat while having a couple of beers.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place based on the reviews but sadly, EVERYTHING was VERY bland, unseasoned beans in the tetelas, unseasoned mashed potatoes from the tacos dorados & the fajita meat had a weird taste, very odd. Maybe I caught them on an off day, idk.

Yelp
Oaxaca's delight at your fingers Tlayudas are huge in size and flavor, one is enough for two. Can't wait to try the rest of the Menu, specially the Mole. Is located outside Astral Brewery witch has decent beer variety and great vibes to stick around.

Yelp
A bit overpriced but overall I think it was good. We got some tlayudas and some Al pastor tacos. The tacos meat was ok nothing extraordinary and the tlayudas are pricey if you take into account that you have to pay extra for avocado on them but hey who is gonna notice after you gulp down some IPA beers from the brewery next door. I also find it tacky that you are ask to tip when you are the one bringing your food to the table and you're also cleaning up.

Yelp
ALWAYS the best. Never had a bad experience, and you can tell it's all made with love. Favorite taco truck in Houston!

Yelp
Food was really good. My wife and I got tacos and the fries. Service was quick as well. Fajita tacos and barbacoa fries were BIG FIRE

Yelp
Tried out Oaxacan tacos at this food truck by Axelrad. They were definitely delicious. I had the al pastor and carne asada tacos while my more adventurous friend went for their grasshopper tacos. I would recommend trying the picadillos, the salsa is delicious and full of flavor.

Yelp
Delicious Oaxacan Mexican food! The tlayudas are amazing. Must check out for authentic Mexican.

Yelp
Well, let me start with the positive: I ordered the 4 chicken tacos for $10 ( I did not plan to buy 4, but they did not sell individual ). The tacos had plenty of chicken, and they were nice and hot. This is where the positive ends. Sad to say, the chicken was super dried out! I could be wrong, but either the chicken was cooked too long initially, or they popped taco in microwave to reheat--I am thinking the latter because one of the tortillas was tough like bread usually gets if in microwave too long. I tried to eat, but I just could not palate-- $10 down the drain. Now I wished that I had got at least one of the tacos with another meat; but I am nota big beef or pork eater. Don't know if the chicken is always this dry or not... but I won't waste my money again to find out. I have tasted better street tacos from costco. This food truck has excellent reviews, so maybe it was just a bad day (at my expense).

Yelp
This place is great! Authentic Mexican food not the usual Tex mex that you see on every corner. Their Tlayudas are amazing. Also they have the best Torta!

Juan G.

Yelp
This place was an amazing find! We were given a free taco to sample the grasshopper taco they sell and let me tell you I was surprised the see i could actually eat it.
