Excellent chicken, just like the one we got in Mexico. Been searching for that taste and El Asadero delivered. Highly recommended

⚠️BEWARE!!!!! BEWARE!!! THEY CALL THE COPS 👮‍♀️ ON THEIR CUSTOMERS IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THERE FOOD!! I went to eat here after my son and daughter graduation. Let me start off saying the food is below average. We kept sending back the plates and the cook kept on giving us dirty looks! The waitress was actually very nice when we complained about the meat being very hard when we asked medium rare. The waitress apologized and offered to remake the steak however, my mother felt very bad we kept on sending back the plates so she waitress offered a discount. When I went to pay, I asked the cashier if she discounted she no my mom should have brought they plate back and she ate most of the steak. I explained my mother took a bite then complained so the waitress agreed to give discount. The cashier said we cannot give you a discount so I asked for a manger which she said theirs none. I then I asked for her name and questioned for what then I explained how the waitress agreed on the discount. A off duty cop came to counter and said we were very rude and we have to leave. So me being a professional I apologize and was leaving . Off duty cop said he comes here all the time.Police from Melrose park show up and asked us what was the problem. They seen nothing wrong and let me, my wife, four children and both of my parents go. Thank you cashier, cook and off duty cop for ruining my kids graduation lunch.

Friendly restaurant, food is great! If you're too tired to make dinner, this is a great option, way healthier than your typical fast food. You can also order a whole roasted chicken or parrillada mix to go and eat at home at a very reasonable price I just wish they had a delivery option

This place has delicious Mexican food, homemade tortillas, delicious chicken, and everything is yummy. Service is great and everyone is very friendly. Price is very reasonable. Definitely a great eat..

Let me start by saying, give this place a chance, it is busy for a reason! My experience is of this one day, one visit. The waitress was not mean but also not friendly, I like to be greeted with a smile. I had the Tampiqueña, rice, beans, salad and enchilada were good; the meat however was a little hard to chew and it had a funny taste like it was spoiled. I tried the carne asada tacos, the meat needed more seasoning. Also tried the bistec a la Mexicana, good flavor although it was cooked different from what I am used to. Agua de horchata on point! Servings are huge and the tortillas are hand made. I dislike that you have to get inline to pay.

One of the best places to get a pollo asado and tampiquena.. I been coming here for almost 3 years.. I know weekends are extremely busy. So the best day to stop for me is a week day. Very friendly people working here.. cantarito drink is my favorite

This tacos are to die for! They are the best you will ever have. The employees are so sweet. Their horchata is always consistently great. The chicken goridtas is my favorite.

Plenty of food and good quality. Tortillas were handmade, soft and warm but not as flavorful as I thought it would be, corn taste is subtle.

This is a well-established restaurant in my hometown, Melrose Park, IL. Their parking lot is usually full, and most of the tables have diners enjoying their meal. I love their casual, homey ambience. They have regular flatware -- no plastic forks, etc. There's usually a line of customers. but they move their line efficiently, which means my order comes up quickly. I appreciate they give a basket of chips and several different types of sauces to enjoy while waiting for my (fast!) food. So glad I decided to give their steak tacos a try a few years ago, and they still do things consistently.

Food it's so delicious. We love the Pollos asados package , rice beans and homemade tortillas . It's always a great deal.

You just can't go wrong with the carne asada here! Absolutely delicious and the chicken is some of the best we've had!!! The rice, beans, tortillas, chips and salsa all top notch. We will be coming here more often for sure!

One of the best places to eat tacos in the area. I dinned in here on a busy sunday. It was packed with many customers. I ordered the asada tacos. It was good. I would definitely comeback

The food is flavorful and delicious here, specifically the fajitas de res, the pollo, and the mixed meat barbecue platters. The bean and rice are really good here, too. Can't forget the salsas either--not spicy, but adds a great complimentary flavor to the food. AND Tortillas are made fresh!

I used to go here as a kid and it was great but last night my brother and I got horrible food poisoning from probably the pork tacos.

I can not figure out the bad reviews. The place is full of local community people eating here all the time. They do a busy takeaway business. The meals first amazing chips and salsa. I had the grilled chicken steaks enchiladas burritos tortas and the carne apache. All were great and I've eaten all the places in melrose and Berwyn. The must try is the carne apache cut up steak grilled with onions and chilli de abrol just amazing. The homemade tortillas are thick but I love them. A lot has been said about the waitstaff but we have a server and she is so friendly greats us takes great of us and honestly is one of the nicest servers. I think some people don't get the vibe you seat urself go up to register to pay and the staff is Mexican so English is the second language there but smile and all they staff is so helpful.

Best menudo I've had in the Chicagoland area. The staff is super friendly and we always have excellent service.

Terrible food and terrible service always seems to appear proper and there's mosquitoes that happen to be in the back whilst people are cooking terrible service for an overpriced restaurant

Been going here for a few years and it leeos getting worse. Today we asked for the tampiqueña well done. And it was red. So disappointing especially with the price. You would expect it to be as you ordered. Last time We ordered two chickens. One was super dry and the other almost pink. Last time we will be going here unfortunately.

The food was a 3 star performance but the service knocked it down, big time. I don't understand how they only have 2 waitresses for the entire restaurant that was about 90% full on a day where most Spanish people celebrate their Mother's Day today. Nothing new with the parrillada. A lot of meat cooked to be eaten. The meat was nice and tender mixed in with vegetables. It also came with rice and beans. The rice and beans were mediocre at best. The star was the meat. We also had the grilled chicken. Some parts were nicely done and some dry. The ones that were done correctly tasted good and had a lot of flavor but mostly towards the bones and not the meat. The service was horrible! We got our appetizers and our entrees before even getting our drinks, not even water. I usually rate my service on how they refill my cup of water and they didn't. Mix in that I didn't even receive anything to drink until half of the meal was finished made it worse. I don't blame it all on the wait staff, the management is to blame for not adequately staffing during busy times.

Covid-19 has donenmirscles for El Asadero! I was about to give up on this place and then twice during this ridiculous sham of a pandemic, we ordered. Food is so much better than I remembered it last. Almost as good as it used to be. The beef cuts seem to be of better quality or better trimmed. The servings were large. The only downer is the prices. How did 6 meals from this place break $90? And two of the meals were taco dinners for kids! Maybe a COVID upcharge? Anyway, the food was good. Thanks El Asadero for getting back on game!

If I were to just talk about the carne asada and margarita that I ordered, I would give this place 2 stars. But because I came with a group, I was able to taste some of the other dishes which bumped this up to a 3. The carne asada was expensive ($13) for what you get and my small steak was extremely dry. The margarita was the worst one I've ever had in my life. I guess I was a little concerned when the waitress asked if I wanted liquor in it. Well, yeah! Do I look like I drink Virgin anything? Yes, please, add liquor. The drink came out and had no liquor in it and if it did, it was probably like a thimble-size amount. A baby thimble. The top of the drink had like half an inch of foam from I'm hoping the margarita mix and not from anything else. The good things were the half roasted chicken which was extremely tender and something I would get again, the house made tortillas and the fresh salsa. Worst Margarita Ever! -Comic Book Guy

I was referred by a friend. Why!? This place is overrated. Food is ok. This is a type of joint that you visit when you're hungry but it's the only place open if you want Mexican food. Last resort. Service sucks. Took 20 minutes to pay my bill. Stay away!

This was our go to place for Mexican lunches. Until yesterday. My group was sitting and as I walked in I glanced on the floor and noted a huge cockroach go right by my friends foot. He kicked it when I pointed it out and so it was laying on it's back trying to right itself back up. This of course freaked the "girls" in the group and so we simply walked out. The one guy said to the waitress that we changed our minds. I yelled at him, he should of told her the real reason since he was speaking to her in Spanish. Oh well. The way I see it, if the roach is out during the day, there's an infestation. The good thing is that he was slow which means he's been poisoned. My fear is what else are they walking on. Oh well, I'm sure the boys will be back cause when I suggested going across the street the one guy says "why would I go somewhere that I have no knowledge of? At least I know their (asaderos) roaches!"

Came in here after memorial services for a loved one and had the worst service, waitress was very rude, meals were not done correctly and she was ignoring our requests, she was not attentive therefore only creating mistake after mistake. I also received my order last with no utensils and the burrito uncut with a large hole in the tortilla with meat spilling out of it. By the time the order was received it was time to ask for to go boxes. I don't know if they were understaffed but there was no explanation nor apology for the mistakes made during our time there. This is the first and the LAST time I ever come here with my family.

This place sucks everytime i order food from here they hive me the weong ordee and i called them and they still get mad for ficinf me the weing things plus the waitresses there they are all rude!! Seriously tbey need to hired new ones never going back ro this place and neither do i recomend it!!!!

more like el robadero. $91 for two taco dinners. 1 extra taco because the waitress heard my order wrong and a plate of chilakiles verdes con carne. 2 small horchatas and a medium one with a Mexican bottle coke. The food is nothing extra ordinary for this price. meat is not good tasting and poor quality . horchata tasted sour and be aware of the mandatory gratuity already added to your bill. you are better off somewhere else.

Love the authentic Mexican food, reasonable prices and generous servings, you get more than what you pay for and service has gotten much better. Good for big family celebrations.

The food was awesome as always but the person who took our order she always has a nasty attitude we love this place but they need to change the person in charge of taking the orders she's the one in charge of making sure that the customer returns but it seems like she don't care at all and this is why I gave you 3 stars it should be 5 but after today I don't wanna go back to this place anymore I like to spend my money where business value their customers

My boyfriend and I stopped in here one Friday night bc he was hungry and j was thirsty my coworker told me they have really good micheladas. My boyfriend is Mexican and Spanish speaking and I am neither. Our server refused to speak English. It's not because she didn't know it either. I heard her speak perfect English to the table next to ours. I'm not sure if she thought I was Hispanic and should know Spanish or what her problem is, but for that simple fact I will not return to this establishment. As far as the michelada goes it was just okay. It definitely looked a lot better than it tasted. The food was okay as well. The steak didn't have much flavor. The rice and beans were decent. I ended up eating once taco and chips and salsa taking the rest of the plate home and forgetting about it. So it got tossed out. So I guess the food was actually worse than okay. I wouldn't come here again. There are a whole bunch of tastier and nicer restaurants to choose from.

I walked in here for lunch looked decent, figured I would get some tacos hard to go wrong with tacos. Boy was I in for a surprise order comes up and she hands me my bag and no can of coke?? I only charged you for the tacos she said she had the audacity to say I asked you if you wanted anything else so I casually told her no I ordered a coke you didn't hear me bought coke got in truck started to eat terrible meat was very fatty and had little taste so I didn't eat the couldn't they were too nasty and expensive almost 8 for thresh I won't recommend this place. On another note the bathroom was nasty had writing on walls soap dispenser was broken roll of towels would not dispense and they had a big serving of salsa(in molcajete) uncovered not very SANITARY!

The food is amazingly good but the terrible service brings the entire visit to shame. I've never seen such a slow bus boy in my entire life. The waitresses move like snails and perform at the absolute minimum. Should you decide to visit prepare to wait 5 minutes for a menu 10 minutes for your drinks, poor attention to drink refills. I've been coming here for about 10 years and believe me when I say the service has not changed. My patience level is high, if yours is not prepare to lose your mind. If your reading this and your in the management please for the love of Pete get rid of the flamboyant bus boy he's useless. The food isn't magical by any means but due to the fact that I live 2 minutes away I always find myself back here for late night cravings. The waitresses are the worst I have ever encountered. 99.9% of them need to get re-trained or fired

Food is awesome!! Authentic Mexican food. Would of gave them 5 stars but due to poor customer service, waitress need to learn the definition of good customer service or at least be trained correctly. We always avoid one certain waitress because of her attitude, with her it's everyones fault but hers. The super taco is awesome and so is the parrillada.

I Dont know what is wrong with these waitresses, they are so rude. I called in an order and she couldn't understand what i was ordering so she got upset. She started asking me why was i being so difficult with my order, when i asked her to speak with soemone else she refused and after everything she hung up the call on me. The reason why I always get my orders to go is because ive had the worst experience with service when i eat-in. I will never go in here OR CALL again, I was very upset. Gross! My mother ordered a guacamole for me today. We were at home enjoying our food. When I found a piece of bug, not sure if it was a cockaroach. And not sure if it came from the salsa or guacamole. But disgusting. beware

I used to come here and it was good! But i just went and it was very busy and still food was not fresh. The pico was old u can tell by the color and my guac was so dark and flavorless.. you guess can do better come on now

I don't know about this place now. I went here about a month ago and ordered the steak dinner which was great and they even hand make their own tortillas but I just went back today and was very very disappointed. I ordered two taco dinners to go. Well, when I got home: First, the cilantro tasted funny and it was all soggy and wet! That kinda ruined the whole meal, but I took it to go and was hungry so I didn't have the energy to go back which is 15 minutes from my house. I tried taking all the cilantro off but it was hard since it was wet and sticking to the meat. If I ate there, I would have sent it back. Also, everything was lacking flavor from the chips, guacamole, the actual tortilla, and the meat - all no flavor at all!! Are they on a low cholesterol diet! Sooo disappointed as my first meal was so good with them. I also paid a good penny for my meals so not happy I flushed that money down the drain! $25 for 2 taco dinners!?! I couldn't even finish my meal, I gave the rest to my dog!

i wrote this on google too but i'm saying it here too, the food was good! but the waitress, the one with black hair and ugly glittery eyeshadow was giving my family so much sass and attitude, as soon as i started ignoring her is when she was being "nice" by asking us every 2 minutes if we were doing okay. don't recommend eating in if you don't want to be met with this lady's attitude. pinché vieja amargada, estupida piruja.

My buddy Mo turned me in to this place. But in Melrose Park everybody is called Mo. But he's the real Mo. Anyone who knocks this place must be used to eating at Taco Bell. This place is psycho good! I drive from 4100 north just to eat here on weekends. They very best salsa and chips I mean the salsa is surely homemade and they aren't stingy with it. Most places love to charge for additional chips and salsa not these folks! The best broasted chicken and chicken salad ever. Excellent chicken cooked in a grill. The prices? I feel like I'm stealing from them! You have to try the menudo on Saturday and Sunday get it early or get nothing at all. I swear I've never had better. Like I said, the prices are insanely reasonable. Homemade tortillas and all. Some complain about the service but I've never had any problems and most of the servers and I can't even understand each other. I just point and spew my little street Spanish and anything I can type into google and we get by. If you can't swing that much don't go make more room fir those of us who appreciate authenticity. On weekends they're packed and have roaming bands and a little old guy who might stop by your table and sell you fresh fresh cheese from his cart. I love it and love supporting the real working folks. Melrose Park has always been ethnic predominantly Italian and Mexican and its always shown in the food. Try this place you cannot beat it. Parking can be a little difficult on weekends but usually plenty on side streets. For those who knock it do us all a favor stay at Chipotle or Taco Bell we need the room at El Asadero. As they say in Melrose Park Fugettabotit.

We were pleasantly surprised to find this Mexican restaurant. We ordered Bistec a la Mexicana and carne asada. My husband ordered a drink that they did not make, but they made it for him without a problem. The food was great and the homemade tortillas and salsa we awesome! They staff was so friendly and helpful. We will be coming back soon.

The food is so so. It's really nothing special. Our tampiqueña was over cooked. It was burned on the edges. Also we ordered a plate of chicken and it was extremely dry. Everything else was ok. I do have one major issue with this place though. We went at night and the place was freezing! The heater wasn't on and it was 30 degrees outside. Everyone there was eating with their jacket on! You couldn't even really enjoy your food since you were shivering the whole time! This is a public restaurant, turn on the heater!

Ass service if I'm being honest. Recommend by a friend but honestly very bad service. The waitresses are super rude and not at all attentive. Asked for a bigger table and she got mad. And declined and insisted we were fine without one. When clearly we were many people. Don't recommend to go at all! We asked for a water for our baby and they rudely said wait. We have been waiting for over 30minute and still now water. The waitress can barley walk wearing flats. All bad.

Great service! Great food. The steak dish is my favorite. Love home made corn tortillas!!! The only bad thing is when time to pay. Long line when is busy... would be better if the waitress can take our ticket vs me having to stand up on a long line.

I would give it half a star if I could I went in for two burritos and two steak quesadillas and paid 54$ but when I began eating my burrito and took a look at the meat there was so mush fat attached to the meat that it was chewy I wouldn't even feed it to my dog but I had payed over 50$ so I forced myself to at least try eating it and I just couldn't even get past the burrito it was just to disgusting every piece of meat had fat attached to it and for those prices I would expect way more La Rosita in Glendale heights is 10 times better with way cheaper prices I'll spend no more then 20$ and eat really good this is the last time I'll come to this place oh and to make things worse I was there in the morning so you would think the food would be better since they had opened less then an hour when I had gone in

The waitresses are in need of training to learn the definition of customer service. No one came to take our order so I had to ask a bus boy to find someone. After our order was taken we didn't see our assigned waitress and wasn't checked on for refills or anything. I was ready to leave but I had to get up to find someone... It wasn't busy at all and there was plenty of staff to take care of us. I won't be coming back. Save your money and find another restaurant. There's no need to pay for terrible service. Management you need to get on top of customer service. Good service = loyal customers Loyal customers = more money for the business.

I am giving it 5 stars because the food is SO, SO GOOD!!! and you get a ton of it for such a decent price. It is very authentic Mexican food. The service is okay at best but honestly that never discourages me and my friends from coming here. I love their chilaquiles with eggs and steak the best.

The carne asada quesadilla is whack I wouldn't feed that shit to my lovely dog in general the carne Asada sucks here more fat than anything and the prices they charge for what you get is fucked up.i would give this half a star if I could

Anytime I visit any kind of Mexican restaurant the salsa has to be perfect- by perfect I mean not too much spice not too mild. For me the salsa either makes or breaks the location- I have to say that I was extremely,extremely satisfied with the food, service, and SALSA!!! We ordered la parillada which said was for 2-3 people but honestly it will STUFF 4 people well. The meat was tender and the veggies were grilled to perfection- The home made tortillas were perfect and the waitress was awesome. The only downfall to this location would have to be the parking situation- It is located in a strip mall ( never judge a book by its cover) and it was overly crowded so street parking can be better if you go on a busy day.

First Impressions: As you walk in the door you can see the pollo al carbon sitting on the grill and if that doesn't whet your appetite, you should probably turn around because you're in the wrong place. It's a clean, family friendly restaurant with comfortable seating. Food Impressions: Based on previous reviews, I ordered the chicken and I was not at all disappointed. I received a generous portion of chicken, rice, beans, and handmade tortillas. The chicken was beautifully spiced and cooked to perfection, with juicy and flavorful breast meat. Rice and beans are standard. The tortillas were thicker and more doughy than I'm accustomed to, even for handmade, but I'm hesitant to complain, as they were still rather tasty. The tortilla chips were average and likely prepackaged. The red salsa was a bit off-putting with it's sweetness, but the green was good. The other people I was with ordered huaraches and they both remarked that they were excellent. Final Thoughts: I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. At their prices they're definitely worth checking out.

The foods pretty good but it's pretty hard to eat when there are so many roaches around you. The waitresses are rude and stuck up. Last time I was there I ordered some fire ass tacos de tripa and my girl got some good ass enchiladas! Everything was going good until we finished eating and saw a roach on top of the table!!! They should really invest in an exterminator or something

Great grilled Mexican style chicken similar to what one will find at roadside stands throughout the Yucatan. The chicken is rubbed with adobo, achiote and salsa before being quick grilled. If your timing is right. you can get an incredibly juicy half chicken, refried beans, rice, salad and wonderful fresh made tortillas for around $6.25. If your timing is wrong, the chicken can be a bit dry. This is great authentic Mexican food.
