Google
A family-owned restaurant with open seating where you order in line unless you choose to sit at the bar. The food is authentic and bursting with flavor. Enjoy your drinks in nice, cold beer mugs. Don't miss their must-try Sunday breakfast!

Google
I have been to La Azteca a couple of times recently…after searching all over Roseville for an authentic Mexican restaurant, I’m so excited to say I finally found it! I forgot to take photos of the actual food both times because I was so eager to jump in, but I would highly recommend their adobada burrito. Very flavorful and filling! They have a great selection of salsas, including a couple of very spicy ones if you ask for them 👍🏻 and their jamaica drink is very refreshing! I will definitely be back, and would recommend this place to anyone else in the area looking for authentic Mexican cuisine.

Lisa Gonzalez

Google
The best authentic Mexican food in town! This place has been our go-to for many years now!

Google
Of course I had to try the casa birria tacos. Been to many places in Roseville trying to find a good spot. And finally found it. Best in Roseville. I would definitely come again. Large portion of rice as well. Good service. And pretty packed for a Sunday.

Google
Wow, this place is AMAZING. So delicious. Quesabirria Tacos highly recommended. Guac, necessito. Awesome staff and owners. This is a must try!!!

Ariana Hernandez

Google
I got the 2 taco plate with rice & beans. Chicken was good, shredded with lettuce & tomatoes. Michelada with corona. Rice and beans were good too. Beans had melted white cheese on it and tacos had shredded Mexican cheese on top .very good. Definitely going back. For 3 people with 2 alcoholic drinks came out to $90. You order in line first then choose your own seats..chips & salsa came right away followed by the food shortly after

Yelp
It's hard to find good authentic Mexican food in Roseville... but I definitely recommend this place. Especially if you like Menudo/Pazole and looking for Tacos de Cabeza, Langua or Buche. The mole is bomb as well. My fiancé is super picky on his Mexican food, coming from all the San Diego food options, but he loved the tacos here and said it was the best Pazole he's had since he's been living here (1.5yr). The micheladas are made with or without the Clamato, which I really appreciated that option because I actually prefer to go without the Clamato. The bar has a wide range of Tequila options and is my preferred seating area so you can just sit and order with the bartender. Otherwise you walk up to the counter and order your food, then find your seating and wait for it to come out. Chips and Salsa are served and the salsa is not only delicious but has a little kick. I think you can tell a lot about how the food is going to be, based on the salsa. Just my 2 cents. The ambiance is chill, open seating, plenty of space and they have a live Mariachi on Fridays. If you're in Roseville, I recommend.

Yolanda F.

Yelp
Service is always excellent! While the food may be a little on the pricey side, it's absolutely worth it. The weekend pozole is a solid 10/10 highly recommend!

Yelp
Delicious food. Clean, open space. Nice people. I took one star only because it's a little higher price than I would expect. I had the taco/enchilada plate and my husband had the enchilada/tamale plate. I had a watermelon margarita and my hubby had a soda. Cost was 63 with tip, 75 for 2 people is a little steep for lunch. I would come here again!
google avatar

Yelp
Real authentic Mexican food. They have great margaritas & great customer service. Fun atmosphere!

Yelp
Have to agree with the many other Yelp 3 stars reviews. The food is okay, not outstanding. The prices are not bargain for the quality. My wife had just 2 tacos, no sides, I had the combo meal #12. I drank one beer, She had a watermelon margarita. Price = $89!!! I lived in Mexico 1976 - 1977. I went to college in San Antonio Texas. I've lived in California more that 50 years. I eat Mexican food both good and bad 3 days / week. This here food is typical Tex-Mex. Big on starches & sauces. Nothing fancy about it. Yes, the #12 combo (Chile relleno, chicken enchilada, beans, rice, lettuce. Surprisingly no warm tortillas). It was a heap of food that satisfied my usual ravenous appetite. Though I did suffer a belly bloat for several hours after. Friday evening dining room was completely packed. Lots of screaming children (Don't parents control their kids behavior anymore?). Noise level was unbearable. Servers, I met three during the meal, were in the range from rushed but friendly to almost outright surly. Tried this place once. No need to ever return.

Yelp
EXCELLENT Mexican food in Roseville! A heavy, two-fist burrito is always a good start and the fish was tender beautifully cooked. Also, I highly recommend the ground beef tacos. Alexandria was a super-friendly hostess and the kitchen staff are obviously top-notch!
google avatar

Aman G.

Yelp
The food is decent, but the prices are outrageous. Normally, I would not mind paying for decent food, but the salsa portions are tiny and they are unbelievably stingy with it. It is honestly insane. You practically have to beg for more, and it is obvious they are not happy about giving it. Call me crazy, but a Mexican restaurant should be generous with the salsa. Absolutely ridiculous.
google avatar

Barbara S.

Yelp
Good food, big portions. Crowded on a week night at dinner time. Yummy crispy chicken tacos, refreshing watermelon margarita! Would come again.

Lori P.

Yelp
We regularly eat here and food is good. I ordered a virgin margarita and it was the same price as a regular margarita (with lots of ice). Had I known I was paying $15 for limeade, I'd opt out. Will rethink next time. She said it was because it was handcrafted yet they added limey mix which tasted too much like article flavor (plus agave and lime juice). Would have been better without the mix.
google avatar

Bailey F.

Yelp
Food was good! Service great too. Ordering system is a bit different but I picked it up quickly :) highly recommend the burrito
google avatar

Marty D.

Yelp
$80 for lunch was too much considering the poor quality of the food. We had 2 lunch plates, 1 taco and burrito, 1 taco and enchilada and then a child's quesadilla plate. The food as mediocre at best. Nothing had any flavor to it. They brought out sala and chips. The table sala was so spicy no one could eat it. We did not take any leftovers home it was so bad.
google avatar

Lily D.

Yelp
It has been probably least 5 years since the last time I was here. Met a friend for dinner on a Thursday night. I always thought they were on the pricier side compared to most taquerias and why I have avoided them. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. There is a self service drink station. As others have noted, there is an upcharge if you do not pay cash. I ordered the taco and burrito combo which was better than expected. It was hearty and must say they have the best spanish rice I ever had. It was light, fluffy, and flavorful. Chips and salsa was just okay. The inside has a nice ambience. It is more festive restaurant style. Would be a great place to bring your family or group of friends. I would come back again.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
Not for us. Pricing is through the roof and the food is just okay. 2 combo plates, a burrito and taco with one fountain drink was nearly $80. We all agreed that the food was not as good as Don Quixote's in Rocklin which we enjoy. Service was just okay as well--none of the workers really seemed like they wanted to be there.

Larry M.

Yelp
The food we ordered was very good except the price was much higher than others in the area. The service is, well let's just say what service. We ordered at the counter, seated ourselves and then we waited for the food. The restaurant was nice and clean the kitchen was very clean. I will not be going back just because of the lack of common courtesy by the serving staff.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Can you say overpriced food poisoning? I can! I was wondering why there wasn't many people in here like there used to be. Food made me sick for nearly $100!!! The staff didn't seem very happy and the guy in the back was sneezing all over the dishes. Ambiance? Empty. Be better. I will be taking my money elsewhere for sure.

John S.

Yelp
We have been eating here at least 15 years every six weeks or so. The last three years we have only visited twice. There prices and service charges are outrages. Food portions are noticeably smaller. No chips anymore with to go orders. A side of beans (about a pint) is over $7 and is a smaller portion now. Service is not good and the place is not busy anymore, I wonder why. Very disappointed as this was our favorite Mexican restaurant around. Just not worth it.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Food was really good! I had the chili Colorado, and my wife had the fajitas. I grew up near Mexico and the food here is legit. This is a no brainer 5 star, but others have mentioned the prices are much higher than other similar places.

Janie H.

Yelp
Ordered to go, 2 meals. Was told to have a seat and they would bring it out. 25 minutes later, myself and another lady approached the counter to check on our orders. They had not even started her order and they handed me mine and said they called the number. Since I was sitting there watching him I know that was not true. He just turned around and walked off. Still have not tried the food but very little can make up for crappy service.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Super nachos. Asked for meat in the side and they said no. Charged me full price for meat and I got soggy nachos for $18. Burrito was good but won't come back.

Yelp
I feel bad giving a small review, honestly they don't deserve it. When they were a smaller location years ago before they expanded (yay for their business), they were fabulous. Here's a tip, DO NOT do their online ordering. #1, this is the 3rd time and though online it shows 10 minutes, it took them 30. Maybe they had a lot of other phone/online orders but there was only 1 couple in restaurant and several people at the bar. Regardless, unless you're dining in, go somewhere more affordable. They have great food but the prices are outrageous! They do have big portions though which is nice. The cleanliness and overall appearance is nice. I will probably go back because it's an old family favorite but just until I find something more suitable.

James M.

Yelp
Service time is horrible, way too pricey!!!! 5 dollar tacos for a 40 minute wait. Will be my last time going.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't write reviews unless is very good or disappointing. This one is the latter. I read several recent reviews before I write my review; pretty much a consensus: OK food taste and portion wise, but price is unreasonably high, or higher than other Mexican restaurants nearby, We don't live near this location, therefore we don't come here often. But we did several years ago and we recalled the food was good. So, one day last week we drove by, made a U-turn and decided to have lunch there. Nothing extravagant; 3 tacos ($4.25 each), one plate lunch ($19.99?) and a soft drink ($?). Tax and tip came to about $47, I was told (wife paid - she must have tipped good, I thought but I didn't check). Usually when I fold up the tacos, some filling falls out. Not these tacos. Fillings stayed in until the last bite. Nice and neat, on one hand, but it also tells the piling wasn't much. Taste was so so; I had better. Plate lunch tasted good, and portion was fine, according to my wife. My surprise was the price. When I checked my credit card transaction online couple days later. The charge showed up as $55.50. Hmm, that is $8.50 over the $47 I remembered being told. I asked my wife to look into it. She was told there was a 4% service charge (not a surprise nowadays) because a credit card was used to pay for the meal. Wife was not (verbally) informed of that by the cashier (probably a note tapped to the cash register, easily overlooked). Then there is still an $2 overcharged. I told my wife to forget the $2. Wow, $55.50 a simple Mexican lunch for two?! Fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me! (By the way, for $50-60 I could cook filet mignon dinner for four with a side.)

Yelp
Food is great. Service not so much. And prices have gotten way too expensive, especially for the portion size.
google avatar

Garrett W.

Yelp
From quality to quantity, the food is the best I've had in Roseville. Even when I go there and sit down with the family, the margaritas are very tasty

Michelle O.

Yelp
This is insane!!! $51 for 3 tacos, chips, drink and salsa!!! I love the food... but the fact that I paid $51 for this is not ok!

Keith M.

Yelp
$20 for a burrito. $30 for a burrito with chips and a drink. Their carnitas is steam table wet shredded pork that sits in water all day, not crispy like every single other carnitas I've ever eaten. The staff seems disinterested and unfriendly every time I go in there. Additionaly I'm not into getting up charged without knowing it. I told her to put the salsa on the side and she then asked me about the sour cream and guacamole, which I also stated on the side. I didnt know she was charging me and additional $3 for the sour cream and guac, and the fact that I said on the side should have been an indicator that maybe I didnt actually want them, but did she clarify? Nope, just ripped me off completely, sold me something I didnt want and gave me no indication I would be paying more for that. I'm in this shopping center several times a week and I'll never ever walk through their front doors again. Never.

K S.

Yelp
I would like to say......The food was amazing!! The employees were nice and fast. The restaurant was nice and clean. I saw other post complaining about price. Well.....you get what you pay for. The food was excellent and to pay a few dollars more for great tasting food is well worth it!! Get the Chicana when they have it, you won't be disappointed.

S C.

Yelp
Ordered a STEAK burrito to go. Waited 20 minutes. Came home opened the burrito. Nothing on it but ground beef. No onions. No peppers, no cheese, no steak. Never again
google avatar

Eileen M.

Yelp
Ordered a strawberry margarita it was really bad in artificial. ordered a scratch. Margarita on the rocks. It was excellent! service. Have been there many times with my son who is half Mexican speak Spanish received excellent service! tonightI was there by myself. A blonde haired, white female received horrible service was treated like I did not exist.! extremely disappointed ! shame on them! have been involved in several successful Mexican restaurants! they should know better...! Just because I do not look, Mexican does not mean that I am not Mexican !...

Mallan G.

Yelp
Been coming over here for over 10 years. Unfortunately food, quality and size has gone down. And the price has increased. Very disappointing.

Nick P.

Yelp
The food and service is always great here at El Azteca. Been coming here for years. Best Taqueria in Roseville.

Chris K.

Yelp
Rarely write reviews, but like others on here, I had to comment on the charges: 1 enchilada plate, 1 taco salad, 1 chicken burrito (with very little chicken), 1 soda, and 1 margarita. I made the mistake of not keeping my receipt, but when I check my bank, total charges were $97....I added everything up, including tip and their 4% CC charge - should've been $80. Used to be a nice little restaurant, but now it feels like a scam. Never again.

Isaac S.

Yelp
used to be the best place in town to get menudo though it was always a bit overpriced, but it was good so I dealt with it this morning I came in. It was a lot more money than I usually pay. The price went up way too much and it was the worst i ever had. I left it on the table and walked out. I will never be back.
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
The food is good but the prices are way too high! The place has a cool restaurant vibe but a walk up counter to order and pay. The service is ok. Nothing to brag about.

Lili

Yelp
This pains me to write this review as we've been going to El Azteca since its inception at just one suite. The food has always been delicious and nothing has changed but the prices are out-of-control.

Lisa J.

Yelp
Okay food, terribly expensive, poor service. I went there tonight for a glass of wine and one enchilada a la carte with a side of refried beans. $40.00! Carmelita's is better food and could have gotten 2 meals there. Won't be back to El Azteca.

Robert S.

Yelp
El Azteca used to be one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants. But they have priced themselves out of range and quality has diminished. We stopped going for the last year as the fajitas chicken quality has really gone down hill and they reduced the amount you get and raised the price to $24. The house wine is now $12 and margaritas are $15. So we tried it again tonight and absolutely dead at 5 pm and nothing has changed. Sorry but I think one of our old favorites is now off the list.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Never going again. DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT. if you order, eat there. DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT. They heat the food In styrofoam containers in the microwave. Been going for years but always wondered why the styrofoam containers were melted when I got home so I watched them closely in the kitchen, sure enough the cooks are putting the food in styrofoam containers then putting in microwave for minutes to heat up the food. I told them how toxic Chemicals can leach into the food and they didn't care. Their response was " We need to melt the cheese ". I should have talked to manager but was angry and left. Will never return. Called the health department. Hopefully they corrected this health hazard.

Heidi M.

Yelp
This place is way too overpriced. They gouge you on every little thing. No chips and salsa on Togo orders. I just picked up my Togo fajitas for $31 and they wanted to charge me $5 for a side of salsa. Carmelitas is better and they won't charge you $5 for a side of salsa.
google avatar

Amarpreet S.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend this place. The Mexican spot across the street is way better and much better service. We got 2 burritos and 1 Taco for $45 and they wouldn't even give us 1 extra SMALL thing of Salsa after we asked nicely, she didn't even offer to give it for a price. The service was slow, food came out slowly, and no one was helpful.

Carl M.

Yelp
Food is good they just can't get their take out order correct. Three times in row ordered green sauce (receipt confirms this) and every time came with red. The last order did have the green (salsa verde) but they forgot my wife taco (again on receipt) completely.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
Disappointed. Food was bland. Food was way over priced. The workers seemed uninterested to be there. I was excited about their flan but even that left us with a stomach ache. Overall, I rather go across the street to mi Tierra taqueria (mini shout out) never had a stomach ache from their tacos ‍
google avatar

Marialuisa M.

Yelp
Grouchy Service from the older lady at the front okay food that takes foreverrr to come out. Won't be back especially when I am getting tacos for $4.25 ea. Not impressed not much else to say.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
BEWARE OF 4% CREDIT CARD SWIPING FEE ADDED TO YOUR TAB! First time I have ever paid this fee in a RESTAURANT. No signage warning you of this fee should you use a credit card to pay your bill. Management there claims this is common. I say BS! At least gas stations let you know UP FRONT how much you will pay with a credit card vs. cash! CASH IS KING! After my first visit there this time, after being hoodwinked, is also my last. Other than that, food was spendy and just OK for "order at the counter" dining, beverages were airport prices. ($11.50 for a glass of Bogle Chard?!?) Also wanted to charge me for a spoonful of enchilada sauce! I prefer not being nickel & dimed. Surprised the chips & salsa were "free". One more thing: the printed menu prices on some items were not in sync with the wall-mounted menu boards.

Robert O.

Yelp
Comfortable place with friendly staff and honest Mexican food. Chili relleno was excellent!
google avatar

Cherie P.

Yelp
My family loves this place, but I just can't deal with their prices anymore. My husband and I went for dinner. We had a chicken fajita plate, carnitas plate, and two margaritas. Our bill (cash option) was $76!!! I'm sorry, but that is horrible. Also, when we asked for more tortillas, we were told there would be a cash price of $3.50 for three tortillas! I don't know who still supports this business, but they must have a disposable income. There are just as good Mexican restaurants in our area with much more reasonable prices!
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
We ordered online and went to pick up our meals. Their online system is top notch, and they actually call you to confirm your order... When I came in to pick up, the place was hopping.. the counter staff was very friendly and attentive to me as well as the other patrons. The rellenos are the best and big enough to be a main course item. Enchiladas and tamales were good too. Will definitely bookmark as a place to return to.
google avatar

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Visiting my aunt and cousins, we stopped here for lunch as they love the food here. Place is no nonsense: walk in, order at the counter, take a number, get your own drink and seat yourself. Plenty of bar seating which was full and regular tables for groups. Food came out in about 10 mins...along with complimentary chips and salsa...the salsa can make or break it and they made a good one! Ordered a steak burrito with guacamole and sour cream on the side...yeah I'm picky and don't like it in a hot burrito...filled with beef (sadly, didn't taste any char), rice, beans and pico de gallo...good but not wowed. The guac was the real deal and the sour cream was a homemade mexican crema with a thicker consistency! Loved it! Overall, *** 3.5 - 4 stars *** Cousin said place is packed on weeknights with a popular HH...nice ambiance and good food. They offer combinations which are a great deal and the Chile rellenos are the popular item...light fry with a flavorful sauce. Would definitely return when in the area.

Gary Z.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant. $15 "house" margaritas... Tacos, basically street sized, were $6-7 each. Sneaky way of adding in a 20% tip at the register, and oh, there is a surcharge for using a credit card as well. Not worth the money, and the food was so so tasting at best.
