I visited El Barzon with a friend for lunch, after it was recommended to us by several people. I ordered the Barzon burrito, which is a carnivore's delight for sure, containing steak and chicken, topped with chorizo, shrimp, and a white cheese sauce. I actually found myself wishing there were some vegetables thrown in to break up the meat, but it was very tasty. The chorizo wasn't too salty like I've found it to be at other restaurants, and the shrimp (something I'm not a huge fan of) were exceptionally tasty.
My friend ordered a delicious-looking fried item filled with cheesecake, which came served with ice cream and whipped cream, and though he regretted putting that and his meal away, he enjoyed both.
The decor is quite unique and charming, and shortly before noon while we were there, there was no crowd to speak of. Our waiter was rather sullen, about the only truly sour note I can mention, and I never received a refill on my water. He did offer to refresh our chips and salsa, which is always appreciated. I hope he was just having an off day, and I plan to return to reassure myself of that.
