El Sabor Poblano Review - Rogers Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"El Sabor Poblano is always on our minds—mostly in the context of wishing we had access to an ever-flowing fountain of their mole. Both the sweet and smoky poblano and the herbaceous verde are incredible, whether they’re covering fluffy enchiladas or chicken drumsticks. But make sure that every trip to this casual Rogers Park spot also includes something with masa, from puffy, fried quesadillas to a breakfast of picaditas and sweet champurrado. And since the cute blue-themed dining room (the chairs, walls, and tablecloths are all matching) is open 9am-9pm, seven days a week, you can stop by for every meal—and you’ll want to." - John Ringor

Google
The worst Mexican food I’ve ever tried in my life. My family is from Puebla, trust me, this place does not even remotely do our cuisine justice. No flavor. And who puts red tomatoes on top of enchiladas? Tortillas are mushy cuz they didn’t fry them first. Menudo tastes like NOTHING. Salsa tastes like straight green tomatoes and nothing else. Rice tastes like cardboard. I have no idea how anyone enjoys this food.

Google
Puebla has some of the best cuisine in the world. This place needs to change their name. They don't come close to the true flavor of our people's cuisine. This isn't even real mexican food. The only people calling it authentic in the reviews aren't even mexican. Let that speak for itself. Never again

I ordered the enchiladas and a horchata. I absolutely devoured the chips and salsa that come free, their salsas were fresh and flavorful and my favorite is the green salsa. The enchiladas were so delicious and came with the perfect amount. Come support this local business the food is great!

Was very good food, my first time eating there. I like to come back and try other things. We was the last people eating there. they close at 10 o’clock and we got there at 9 o’clock and they still say we can eat there, the food tastes great !!!

Google
Recommend: tilapia tacos*, salsa verde, campenchanos Good: tamales, barbacoa tacos Ok: chicken flautas, arabes tacos, lengua (tongue) tacos, tripa tacos *Probably would have been a 3 star rating if we didn't like the tilapia tacos so much. They were definitely the favorite. The fish was tender and nicely seasoned. The seasoning and cook on other things were a little hit or miss. Barbacoa had great taste but too salty, arabes were dry, lengua was disappointingly dry and bland. The salsa verde was used liberally to save many of the tacos. The flautas were nice and crispy but the chicken inside was dry. The tripe had some crunchy bits that some people might like but I found them tough. The campenchanos in the flour tortilla were also a bit salty but I liked how soft the tortilla was. The tamales had nice texture, but the cheese stick inside was strange for me.

Google
“El buen sabor Poblano“ is the best possible name for this place (which translates to “the good (Pueblan) taste”. The food was DELICIOUS. A very unassuming spot. The prices were very reasonable. The food was absolutely delicious and flavorful and came out fresh and fast. I had an order of the tacos al pastor- excellent in every way. My wife has the steak platter (tampiquena style) which was super generous. Essentially we could have split this platter and been satisfied. mole sauce on enchiladas, flautas (deep fried tortillas rolled with chicken), a well seasoned steak, rice, beans, salad and freshly made guac. My son (1yo) had bites of both dishes. We also ordered the champurado (hot chocolate) and horchata (cinnamon rice milk) which were both good. We plan to come back here again. ¡Gracias por todo!

Yelp
Decided to get burritos here because the reviews are good. I dont know what's wrong with everyone's tastebuds but I'm convinced they've never had good Mexican. Got a steak burrito and it was so bland. Even more than that, where is the meat?? Chipotle gives more meat than this. Their red sauce and green sauce is really watery. It seems like they skimp on ingredients and water down their salsa. My husband is from California so he knows good Mexican food, but he was disappointed also. He got the burrito Colorado and he said the sauce was very tomato-y. He also was not happy with the taste and lack of ingredients. Over priced and under delivered. Only thing that was great was our Mexican Coke. We wont be back, even if its the last restaurant in the world. I suggest if you're looking for good Mexican to pass.

Yelp
Amazing service and food. Had the regular burrito, it was so good. Everyone was kind and helpful.

Yelp
Main area (by entrance) has 5 tables and has an upstairs area. Place is bright during the day ... perfect for a family style place. We ordered (2) house dishes Bistec a la mexicana and the Mole de Pollo. Dishes were ok enough that we may be back.

Yelp
In 54 years, I've eaten hundreds of Cuban sandwiches. This is by far the worst representation of a Cuban sandwich I have ever had. Perhaps you should ask a Cuban how to make it properly. Everything was wrong about the sandwich from the meat, to the bread to everything in between. And, of course, it wasn't even pressed. I don't normally complain, but I ordered six sandwiches, and they all came the same way, and they were all subpar

Yelp
Tried this place on the recommendation of a friend. I love small authentic places and this place blew me away. Small cozy living room type setup. I got my order to go and you know the food is good when the kids go silent while eating. I got the burrito Colorado, enchiladas verdes, chicken tacos, and chicken quesadilla. Everything was top notch and they had my order ready within 15 minutes. I even got to practice my broken spanish while ordering Highly highly recommend and will definitely be going back often!

Yelp
New place opened up recently... Ordered for pickup and food was tasty and fresh.... Mole tamales were awesome and also tried chimichanga, burritos and sopes... This place opened in same location of Fusion Mexican which closed, looks like owner change but menu is pretty much similar. Taste wise I felt a notch up from previous owners....

Yelp
We love ordering takeout from this local restaurant. Everything was delicious! The chicken burrito is so full of flavor. The tacos are very good! Definitely will go back again!

Yelp
My first time coming here and the food is pretty good. Very impressed with the chicken fajitas. The chicken was well seasoned and very cheesy. If you want a good meal at a great price this is it. I took home leftovers!

Yelp
A great little place. I have not been here in awhile and stopped in for breakfast and it was very good. Classic huevos rancheros!
