9 Best Hikes in San Diego | Condé Nast Traveler

"Forget the Stairmaster—this epic hike is one of the most strenuous in Southern California. The 11.1-mile out-and-back trail is dog-friendly and accessible year-round, making it a favorite for serious adventurers. Those who brave the continuous ups-and-downs will be rewarded with impressive views from the top of "El Cap," but beware: this hike will likely take you a full day, so start early." - Archana Ram

Solid long hike with good views all of the way up. Very little shade so start early and pack more water than you think you'll need.

El Cap is definitely challenging, but so worth the effort. Treat it with respect.

It's a beautiful but brutal hike to summit of El Cajon mountain. Gorgeous views all the way. Be prepared for steep climbs even on the way back to parking lot. I used 5liters of water with electrolytes in hot weather. If you want to try it, do dome research on this trail before.
