For those who've been keeping up, you know that Atlantic Ave isn't exactly my favorite haunt in Delray Beach. Even though I live nearby, I tend to avoid the street full of tourist traps, influencer hotspots, and middle-aged ladies on the prowl for free drinks. So, when a friend texted me asking if I wanted to hit up Atlantic for Taco Tuesday, I was a bit hesitant. Taco Tuesday on Atlantic? Ugh. But, against my better judgment, I decided to give it a shot and agreed to meet up at El Camino.
Trying to make a reservation online was a bust, but I saw plenty of open slots across the street at Rocco's. I told my soon-to-be dining companions that we'd meet at El Camino and, if all else failed, we'd head to the "other place." We met up at 7 PM, and much to my surprise, our party of three was seated in less than five minutes. Color me impressed!
Our server, Lauren, came over immediately with bottles of tap water and gave us some recommendations. The drink menu boasted a TON of different tequilas and mezcals, but I was disappointed to see they didn't have any non-alcoholic beer. Since I don't drink if I'm driving, I was hoping for an NA option. Seriously, El Camino, it's 2024--get with the times and stock some Heineken 0.0!
We started off with chips and salsa, which were a great way to kick things off. The salsa was fantastic--fresh, zesty, and just the right amount of kick. Since it was Taco Tuesday, I asked if they offered à la carte tacos instead of the standard taco platters with rice and beans. The answer was no, but Lauren said we could order them without the sides. Not exactly what I wanted, but...
One of my friends went with the tacos, while the other and I decided on fajitas and a gigantic kale salad. Lauren had warned me that the salad was "huge," and she wasn't kidding. It was massive, but delicious, and perfect for sharing. The fajitas were a highlight--loaded with flavorful chicken, peppers, onions, and the usual accompaniments like cheese, pico, guac, and sour cream. Everything was spot-on and absolutely delicious.
Unfortunately, we were too stuffed to even consider dessert. But I have to give a big shoutout to Lauren and her team, who provided exceptional service throughout our meal. They kept the chips coming, our drinks refilled, and whisked away dirty plates with the grace of dining ninjas.
It's easy to see why this spot is a favorite among those who love to frequent Atlantic Ave, even if it's not usually my scene. Add some NA beer to the menu, El Camino, and you can bet I'll be back for more Taco Tuesday fun!
