"With a long list of fresh fish dishes and bevy of classic sauces like huancaina and aji verde, El Chalan is on high on the list of places to check out for Peruvian dining. The Westchester restaurant is a hot spot in the community and the menu features helpful photos of most dishes, making it perfect for those who aren’t familiar with the cuisine." - Amber Love Bond

Google
We had eaten Peruvian food at a friend's house in Miami, so today, we found a famous Peruvian restaurant for dinner. Because it was around 8:30 and there were few customers, we ordered three dishes, which were served about 15 minutes later. The fried rice was the best, and the fried seafood was also good, but the corn and fish were a bit sour.

Bruna Isensee

Google
Good food. The only reason for the lower than 5 stars is that the fried food is really greasy. The restaurant was super full even though it was a Thursday at 3pm. I’ll be back when I want a homie Peruvian place.

Jacklee Neal

Google
This place was heavily recommended by a taxi driver in town. I was craving seafood and this place hit the spot! The service was on spot and they were friendly. They explain the menu to us. The food was delicious and we ate as much as we could! Left the restaurant in a food coma. Almost forgot, the dishes were on the pricy side.

Alejandro Barreda

Google
While eating at this restaurant I felt as if I were in Lima Downtown in the 90s. This traditional restaurant im the middle of Bird Road offered good classic criolla food with good portions on the main dishes, in particular the piqueo criollo. The service was fast and friendly. We could come back

Melissa Mejias

Google
The food was delicious including the steaks. The serves here was perfect our server Maribel was very helpful and warm. The desserts are to die for.The background music is calming yet matches with the vibe of the whole restaurant. It’s also a very cheap spot if you ever just want to stop to get great Peruvian food in Westchester.

Google
Visiting Miami and we found this place my chance. The food was overall pretty good. We LOVE Peruvian food. Ordered ceviche with only fish, causa with octopus, and seco ( beef in a cilantro sauce). Our favorite plate ordered was the seco. It's definitely a place to come back too.

Google
Great food and service. A little on the pricey side but well worth it!

Google
If you’re looking for a simple family style place with tasty food, good service and reasonable prices, check this out. We enjoyed a very nice meal with a mountain of fried seafood and a thin grilled steak and closed it out with a slice of yummy chocolate cake. Service was excellent and they let us sit and chat as long as we wanted without any pressure. They were out of the whole fried snapper so that will be our excuse to go next time. Will definitely visit again!

Jose P.

Yelp
Good food and service was excellent. Would recommend to others. Home style cooking at decent prices

Vancy S.

Yelp
It's nothing fancy but the staff are always friendly and the Peruvian food is great! The ceviche is fresh and has so much flavor. The fried red snapper fish is well seasoned and the presentation is great when they serve it. Sometimes the best places are simple!

Hiro O.

Yelp
Probably the best place for Peruvian food hands down! You know i like the HUGE portions so make sure you dont get full on the bread! LOL (warning dont eat all the bread). Like always pretty much tried everything on the menu but went with my usual fish dish, of course the ceviche, seafood mixto platter, and the mussels. Super casual spot, simple and definitely try out the desserts! SLAMMMMMIN and also the fresh lemonada, but tell them less sugar... Been here like 10x's definite good spot!

Yelp
El Chalán has been my go-to Peruvian restaurant in Miami for the past 15 years, and it's easy to see why it's my favorite. There's a comforting sense of familiarity each time I visit, thanks to the consistent staff who've become like family over the years. The quality of the food has remained top-notch throughout, with each dish bursting with authentic Peruvian flavors that keep me coming back for more. Whether it's the ceviche, lomo saltado, or any of their other specialties, I've never been disappointed. The atmosphere is always welcoming, with an ambiance that perfectly captures the spirit of Peru. It's not just a meal; it's an experience--one that I've cherished for over a decade and will continue to for many years to come

Yelp
Used to love this restaurant but I do not think I will be returning. Ordered Papas Huancainas and the sauce was spoiled (they took it off our bill) but when we asked for Fish Ceviche we were told they did not have any because it had gotten spoiled. (Not very safe) Ordered the Lomo Saltado and the meat was overcooked and dry. The fries were old and there was hardly any sauce on the food. Glory days are gone.

Sheryl S.

Yelp
Very good food! Big portions so come hungry (and try not to eat all the bread in the beginning). Wanted to try everything on the menu but went with my usual lomo saltado. Casual ambiance, but the place doesn't feel very clean. Someone even brought their dog in - is that even allowed?!

Pedro Leonardo B.

Yelp
Wow! This dish exceeded my expectations in every way! The flavors were absolutely delicious, the portion size was generous, and the timing of the delivery was spot on. Plus, the price was incredibly reasonable! I'd highly recommend this menu item to anyone looking for a satisfying and affordable meal. 5/5 stars!

Seniorita D.

Yelp
Found this place on yelp when I was attending a game at a local high school. The reviews were great so we gave it a try. I have had Peruvian many many times. I can honestly say have never had such poor Peruvian food in my life. The ceviche was a joke - it was cut up fish with almost no lime and definitely not seasoned. The lomo saltado was similarly underwhelming so Was the jalea. The service was odd as well - no one was really our server, more like who ever walked by. Maybe they had an off day? Not sure, but I won't be back.

Rosario G.

Yelp
Wow...everything was absolutely amazing...our waitress Elizabeth was absolutely amazing. I have had been in a lot of Peruvian Restaurant and this is one of the best so far.

Alfred R.

Yelp
Delicious food, good service, medium priced, excellent quality, ambiance is not its key point. Decent, reasonable, respectful, one goes there for the food.

Jonny O.

Yelp
Some of the best vuelve la vida in Miami, I've had a lot of Peruvian food and none compares to El chalan both of their locations are amazing.

Jose A.

Yelp
Food is overpriced, a lomo salteado will cost you around $25 mostly is rice and vegetables, they will try to charge you extra for the bread that used to come included with the plate.

Connor B.

Yelp
Real hole in the wall spot. Ceviche was great! Fantastic portions. Sangria was pretty good too.

Raquel M.

Yelp
Food was not up to part, I read the reviews and nothing to do with what I experienced. 1st we ordered the causa de pulpo and was over salted. I ordered a parihuela mixta and when they brought it back it had a hair inside the soup, when I called i believe it was the manager he took out the hair from the soup and said if i wanted to order another soup it was going to take longer.. did he expect me to eat the soup just because he removed the hair??? After waiting 15 minutes more they brought me back "another" soup but my appetite was no longer there. Will not be coming back

Esmeralda O.

Yelp
La comida es muy deliciosa y la atención excelente y los precios son razonables yo ordené un lomo saltiado y un pescado frito expectacurar

Evelyne T.

Yelp
Traditional Peruvian cuisine & they've been DOING IT RIGHT for 30 years! Try their natural lemonade made on the spot!! FAB *not pictured*

Claudia P.

Yelp
Best Peruvian restaurant in south beach hands down. Don't be thrown off when you walk in. It's small and not luxurious but it is always busy for a reason! The staff at this place are always so busy but still so welcoming! They are proud of this place! The food is so flavorful how Peruvian cuisine is intended to be. My favorite is the ceviche mixto, there is an appetizer will all fried seafood you can ask for and the OCTOPUS left me in shock! The tacu lomo and lomo Saltado are my go to for entrees.

Giselle C.

Yelp
Great Peruvian food at decent prices. It's close to my mom's house, so it's my pick for ceviche de pescado (whitefish) and lomo saltado. Service is a little spotty, but friendly. This place is always busy, no matter when I've gone, and that says a lot to me about the quality of the food. The ceviche is super fresh and has a tiny spicy kick that makes it that much better. The Lomo Saltado could've benefited from a little more beef, but it was fresh and tasty. The portions are large enough to share (unless you're seriously hungry). They also carry my favorite Colombian soda, Postobon! Overall, this is a great local Peruvian spot...check it out!

Erika V.

Yelp
We visited the Chalan Restaurant at the beginning of the month since we were in the area. As soon as we sit, our server brought us some bread and a spicy sauce which I really like that detail, in Peru is very common to eat bread with any signature spicy sauce. The bread was good but the sauce had this strong taste i couldn't tell what it was but it was overpowering the taste of the sauce. We started with a beer and a passion fruit juice that was delicious! Then to start, we ordered a Papa a la Huancaina and it was good and really creamy. For entrees, we ordered the Chicharrón de Pescado which was really fresh and it was really good! Also, we got a Veggie Chaufa Rice and it was good but it throw me off a little because there were green beans in the rice and that's not very common. The size of the rice was huge, easily 4-5 people could have eaten from the rice bowl. Our server was nice and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is ok, very casual.

Ken S.

Yelp
Wonderful food and very fresh seafood. A real joy. Family owned, too. They used to make us feel like family when we came to eat but something changed. The hospitality was a smile and a basket of warm bread to enjoy. Now there is no bread, not even to pay extra. This is very foolish on the part of the owners, to lose the hospitality and welcoming atmosphere. No welcome. Do you understand save a penny lose a dollar? Let us pay an extra buck or two and have our bread again.

Chingolo C.

Yelp

Yelp
El Chalan is one of the oldest Peruvian restaurants in Miami, I have been coming here since I was a teenager. Over the years many Peruvian restaurants have been opening and now I decided to make a recent visit to El Chalan to see how it stacks. We ordered two dishes the shrimp causa and the grilled seafood platter. The causa is the mashed potato stuffed with shrimp, and for me it was very underwhelming, the mashed potato tasted like a boxed version and the pink sauce was flavorless. Than came the main entree and it contained shrimp, fish, mussels, slices of octopus and mostly calamari rings. It was ok I felt it needed more seasoning. Like I said the food is not bad but compared to other newer Peruvian restaurants and bonus of being married to a Peruvian I know certain taste.

J L.

Yelp
Wish I could eat here again for the ceviche but unfortunately they only use Sway fish and not Corvina!! So I wont be eating here unless they start serving corvina for the ceviche

Ronald J.

Yelp
What can I say about this place ? Other than the following: great food, great service and pretty nice location. Place seats about 170 people... have not figure out how but we have always been able to be taken care off rather quickly. Ambience is ok. Can never go wrong with a nice ceviche either just fish or mixed. Jalea mixta is a must. Wife and I love this spot.

Nelson R.

Yelp
I always order take out from here. I ordered some Ceviche online and went to the window to pick it up 15 minutes after the due time. I stood at the window for 15 minutes and was not acknowledged while they answered phones and talked amongst themselves. When I was finally aknowledged my order wasn't ready and had to wait even longer. If it wasn't because I paid for it, I would have left. When I got home the ceviche was nasty. It had no lime juice in it and the seafood hadnt be cured. Biggest wast of my time and money. Time to find a new ceviche place!!!

Christian M.

Yelp
My sister and I when to this place on a Saturday afternoon to go experience a the food. But what we experience was big roach crawling in the roof of the place. I will not be going there anymore.

Maria B.

Yelp
Very delicious, I had some fish appetizers Deep Fried Fish Chunks or Calamari / Chicharron de Pescado o Calamari and causa de camarones with a Cuban friend to provide some good taste of Peruvian food. Super delish! It was a Sunday at noon, it was completely full. Had great service by the server Rossy. I've been coming here since I was a child. Loving my Peruvian community. Can't go wrong with El Chalan on Bird Road. Bon appetite!

Jessica R.

Yelp
Worse service ever. They don't take reservations and they don't give you a time frame of the wait time. we waited about 20 mins. Got sat down and no one came To us until we told the guy cleaning the table If he can take our order and he got someone else. It was our first time here and we were actually celebrating my mom's birthday and I feel horrible that she had to experience that on her day. The food was okay. Could of been better. The complimentary bread they give you was hard like it was heated up on the microwave. My mom said her fish was a little too salty. My dish was ok the rice seemed to be heat it up and not fresh and my sister had a ceviche was too spicy for her to even finish it. The only thing they enjoyed was the sangria. Half of their dessert were supposedly sold out too. Won't be returning here.

Norberto B.

Yelp
Best Peruvian food by far, arroz chaufa was amazing and huge portion, fish was crispy and delicious, papas huancaina super tasty. Service was good considering it was the lunch rush and it was very busy. This is our third time here highly recommended, I have been to other Peruvian restaurants but they don't compare to El Chalan

Glenny M.

Yelp
I loved the food and desert as well as the service so welcoming and friendly very clean as well thanks for the service will be back next time

Roxana L.

Yelp
I've been going to restaurant for years now. I no longer lived in the area but decided to go for a drive for the Jaleas. The food was good although the jalea was a bit dry (not as fresh) but the service was awful. She only came by once to fill our water and it wasn't our waitress who did this. Not once, did anyone asked how our food was or if we needed anything. We had ordered a Chaufa (fried rice) and we were not offered or even had a chance to ask for soy sauce. When the bill came, I gave $5.00 tip and the waitress didn't even say thank you... she turn away and left us there. Not even "Have a good night". Yes, the food is good but the service lacked and because of this ... not worth the drive anymore. It's a shame....

Marian Q.

Yelp
This location works on a first come first serve basis so either go at a random time or prepare to wait to be seated. They offer authentic Peruvian dishes and serve generously sized portions. The Lomo Saltado was packed with favor, which made eating the fries so much better as they absorbed a bit of the juice. The Parihuela is full of seafood (shrimp, mussels, calamari, fish, and small pieces of squid). If you enjoy seafood soup then this is probably the dish you should order!

Natasha T.

Yelp
This place is awesome! My husband and so stopped in after getting a referral. There was no wait to be seated; however, what was available was a small table by the door. We were warmly greeted and ordered a Sangria pitcher and appetizers. After we placed our order, our waitress asked if we'd like to move to a bigger table. Which we did and it worked out great. The portion sizes here are large and it's hard not to order multiple items from the menu. Everything was delicious! We also noticed that there are a lot of "regulars" which gives this place a warm "at home" feeling. Needless to say we will be returning and referring.

Suzy B.

Yelp
Came to this restaurant for the first time with my family. The food was fresh and really good. We had ceviche, fried rice. The lemonade is to die for

Roland M.

Yelp
Saturday 03 September 2022 we ordered Online and the attention provided by the Staff was not great. Once the order was picked up,there were no utensils, napkins etc... We are not too happy with the Service provided and one star is too much to give. Honest Review.

Alexandra M.

Yelp
I'm Peruvian and I've eaten a lot of Peruvian restaurants but this one is the most authentic. Their huancaina sauce is authentic. Other restaurants have their own version. I had los tallarines verdes with lomo salteado!! It's a big serving so you have enough for left overs. There's also a Peruvian store next door where you can purchase food & home decor items from Peru

Ingrid E.

Yelp
Discovered a nice little Peruvian restaurant. With incredible ceviche, little salads called "causa", creamy shrimp soup, lomo salteado, pollo salteado, Peruvian style fried rice, fried whole fish and unique desserts. The menu is pretty extensive. Their staff is professional, courteous, quick to assist. Everyone works together to bring the best service to the table. I've only been there twice and can't wait to go back. I decided to try it because my son and his wife, who are super picky about food were raving about it. Will have more to share soon!

Alejandro P.

Yelp
Great ceviche, and I highly recommend the Jalea Mixta. Known as "Fried Seafood Mountain"! (Deep Fried Fish, Calamari, Shrimp, Octopus, and Mussels).

Melanie L.

Yelp
If you love Peruvian food, you will love El Chalan!! I've been here twice, and the second time has made me love it even more. The environment is nice, the staff is quick and friendly, and the food is amazing. They have so many popular Peruvian plates. Each entree is huge and shareable. I ordered the Aji de Gallina and I will never get tired of it! Shredded chicken is different but very delicious and filling. I suggest ordering it at least one time so you know what shredded chicken tastes like. The ceviches are absolutely incredible. They are actually pretty big too. The Ceviche Mixto came with lots of fish and is also shareable. The Choros a la Chalaca (comes with 6 pieces) is a MUST try! So much flavor! They also have many appetizers to choose from. The one we chose was the Jalea Mixta, which comes with different fried seafood pieces. Yummy! If you are in the area, you must stop by and try this place! You will not regret it! The prices are fair and very much worth it.

Alina D.

Yelp
Poor service - expensive. Food mediocre. The ceviche was overly citrusy and the Peruvian rice was cold.

Snow K.

Yelp
This place should be 4-5 stars, but have to give it 3. They allow some random street flower/bouquet hustler to enter the store to harass customers while they are eating. If you decline, he keeps hustling you while you just want to enjoy your time with your companion. When you tell him that's enough, he walks away while staring you down in an intimidating way (and may continue to do this at other times thereafter). I brought it to the attention of the host and server, and they acted like they couldn't do anything about it, although it's obviously a private establishment and they can totally ask him to leave. What's hard about this?

Helena A.

Yelp
I'm so upset!! We planned on coming for a great dinner on New Years because we love this place so much! I called to ask about reservations and to verify they would be open. Their answer? No reservations needed and also "una noche igual que cualquiera otra"... translation: a night like any other night. We show up at 8:15 and they are CLOSED! What a let down.

Reginald A.

Yelp
Best value. Copious quantity and hearty flavors. Bistro type atmosphere which makes it totally unpretentious. The chaufa is sooo umamai laden it's ridiculous. The ceviche sparkles. The bavarois dessert......hello!!!

Sandra C.

Yelp
When you walk into El Chalan it's not the fanciest restaurant, but it's usually packed no matter time you go. For my family that's a plus sign since it means people love it. We do to we love the food, the portions of the food, the service and the prices are good. If you want authentic Peruvian food you should try it and keep coming back as we do.

Monica V.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite Peruvian restaurant! We come here at least once a month sometimes more We always order the Jalea mixta de pescado (chunks of fried fish) enough for 2. My husband loves the ceviche and the shrimp and fish is all amazing!! I have never ordered something that I don't like. My kids love it too! They love the Chaufa it's like a Chinese fried rice but better.

Dee L.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time---- Our Sister-in-Law suggested. Ahh... not great. Our Server was a bit grumpy; not friendly, not smiling; food was very bland... not much flavor--not great. Prices were a bit high for the quality. Not Happy. We will not be returning.

Roxana B.

Yelp
Very tasty ! Quality food , a little bit pricy but deserves it ! The ambiance is perfect ! The sea food is fresh !

David B.

Yelp
This place is perfect. Been going for over 20 years. Pollo Saltado highly recommended.

Tony G.

Yelp
Great restaurant, I stop by once a month when I fly in to visit my father in the nursing home. The cafe con Leche is great, the lunches are excellent. Inalways order the Cuban sandwich or rice and beans, yuca and pork. Great prices, great sercice. I highly recommend it!!

Marlon M.

Yelp
Need more customer service . Food not a lot portion 120 $ some of them are nice and other rude
