El Chapulin Oaxaqueno Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This taco truck (with a second location in West Seattle) is camped in the old parking lot of a now-closed dry cleaners on Capitol Hill. And while you can no longer get your pants starched or unfortunate bridesmaid dress tailored here, you can get something much better—great takeout. Like a burrito the size of a football in a bed of rich red chile sauce and tasty vegetable mulitas that involves chopped brussel sprouts, carrots, and red onion roasted just a hair past the point of tender without being limp." - Kayla Sager-Riley

We've been fans of this truck since we moved into the neighborhood; their food is always delicious and reasonably priced. Even knowing this, they blew us away this weekend. They catered a party we hosted and fed about 40 people, all of whom raved about the food. The food was packaged thoughtfully, super fresh, and tasted awesome. They had great veg and gluten free options, so all of our guests got to enjoy a nice meal.

Google
The taco truck made me fall in love with tacos. Best in town, hands down. Meat and sauce are top-notch. Highly recommended!

I have been coming to this food truck for years now. Food is always excellent. They have veggie options. The dude working there is so friendly and chill. I eat here once or twice a week and it’s always exactly what I’m looking for when I’m in the mood for simple, filling, tasty burritos.

Google
A decent taco place here in West Seattle. Every time I drove by the aromas would entice me to try their stuff so this time I actually gave in. We ordered their torta (adobada), Quesa birria and Birria tacos. The Torta was the best of the lot and it was good. They could have added more meat but overall it was flavorful. The birria tacos and quesa birria lacked flavor by themselves. However, their salsas both red & green are bomb and can make any flavorless dish taste better. We drenched our meals in their salsas and were content with what we tried. Overall it is a good taco place but nothing mind blowing imo.

Me and my husband come here often and it always hits the spot , they’re always super nice and friendly and the food is 10/10 in my opinion. The food is without a doubt always super flavorful, I usually get a carne taco plate ,and the meat is always on point. Literally the best tacos I ever had and I’d recommend to anyone who loves Mexican food.

Google
Great little taco stand with a wide variety of options. I would say sauced dishes like enchiladas and huevos a bit better than meat dishes like carnitas. Tacos of course great

Google
I got two birria tacos, two pastor. Let me tell you they were both delicious. The meat is well seasoned. It’s well cooked has lots of flavor . The salsa is a plus . Really delicious definitely recommend stopping by. The tacos are worth the price. Really good food !!

Virginie Nadimi

Google
Really tasty pastor tacos. Juicy and flavorful. The medium and hot salsas are both very fresh and tasty too. This is going to be my go to spot for tacos now! used to live in LA and this spot reminds me of my favorite pastor tacos from a taco truck in Koreatown. 💯🙂 So glad this option exists for us in WS! Great to have awesome food options outside of the Junction area.

Yelp
So delicious!! I got the asada tacos entree with rice and beans. So happy to have this place in the neighborhood. Guy at the window taking orders was so friendly and smiley. I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Stopped in for our first time. We were craving some breakfast tacos and noticed they served them until 3pm. Service: let me just start with the service which is honestly sub par. The guy taking our order wasn't the friendliest and was rude to my wife when she asked about trying a few different breakfast tacos and said they come in 3's but of all the same type. We didn't have a problem with not being able to try more but he was just rude about it. Food: food alone would be closer to 4 stars. I ordered the carne asada tacos which were pretty small but came packed with meat and had good flavor along with salsa, and onion. The chorizo breakfast tacos were good sized and came with egg, potato, chorizo, cheese, and salsa. It was overall decent filling and kind of what I expected but nothing I'd be dying to go back for. It didn't look like there was any seating around there but from other reviews it sounds like there may be some seating now.

Yelp
Love them. We try to come about once a week for our breakfast burrito fix. We love their food, the speed of service is great and the food is always amazing. Very convenient as we live just up the hill but I would make a drive to get food from here if we didn't live close. They are so friendly and their house made salsa is AMAZING! Totally recommend to anyone!

Yelp
Delicious food & homemade salsas. Have been going here for years to get my burrito fix.

Yelp
Great taco truck! Lots of flavor, just the right seasoning! I happened to be driving by, starving! I wish they had diet coke, but oh well. Enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
Got a beef burrito, it wasn't anything crazy just your run of the mill beef beans and rice. I do like the fact they didn't stuff it with just rice and beans with a sprinkle of meat here and there (like some places famously do) Salsa wasn't too spicy which was a bumber, need that spice in my life!
google avatar

Yelp
This truck used to be THE best Mexican in Seattle. Sadly the owners changed hands or something happened here after they moved locations from California to Fontleroy because now it is C level at best. Which is SUPER sad because now there is nowhere decent to get my Mexican on this side of Seattle! I have to drive all the way to Ballard to a great place in Old Ballard. Such a bummer!

Yelp
Do you want some well seasoned tacos? Well, this is the place. The sign that say "coffee and tacos" is what got me. I love trying new places because i might find my next favorite place. They are super friendly and helpful. But let's talk about the food. We got a taco and burrito. I got an asada, al pastor and adobada taco. My favorite was the adobada. So flavorful and seasoned perfectly, hit it with a lime for some tangy and it was a master piece. If i could change something, i would cook the tortillas on the flat top with the juices from the meat. Al pastor was season perfectly as well and so delicious. My least favorite was the asada but that's just the other two were so amazing but still season well. Also, i tried the carnitas burrito and man oh man that was so delicious. The carnitas meat was perfect and tender! All the ingredient together made a perfect burrito. I will definitely be back and recommend some people here!

Yelp
Quick little update since I went again this past weekend and I'm so happy for them that they now have a little indoor seating area away from the elements just behind the truck to the right. Again these are my favorite tacos in the greater Seattle area (even over some of those hyped locations in downtown). I have brought a few different friends here from SoCal and Chicago and both have gave their seal of approval on these tacos as sole of the best.

Yelp
Best Mexican in west Seattle. The chorizo quesadillas are so good. They always have good quality avocados too.
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
This place has great flavorful food and salsa's. They also have amazing service! Will be coming back for more.

Yelp
Hands down best Mexican food in West Seattle. Im from California where Mexican food is just superior but this place takes the win. The breakfast burritos are my favorite in particular. Love these guys!

Yelp
Right of the bat for some reason I thought this place was a brink and mortar store - it is a food truck. Don't be an dummy like me and just look for a food trunk in the ally between the Pagliacci's Pizza and Lula Coffee. The menu is pretty robust, I was delighted to see a breakfast burritos on the menu. I am a picky person at times (most of the time in fact) and noticed the breakfast burritos on the menu were not exactly what I wanted - they were happy to satisfy my substitution of Carnitas as the protein instead of the options available. The burrito was fantastic, portable and hit all the spots I needed it to after running a race that morning. The taco plate was okay. We got asada for the protein it was pretty underwhelming - it was quite dry. If we came back I'd order the same exact breakfast Burrito I got.

Yelp
When I asked for extra silverware, the server acted horribly offended and declined. When I asked again (adding an extra "please"), the server angrily responded with "fine, but this is coming out of my paycheck!" If that is true, management needs to change their policy. Customers are going to ask for extra silverware and the servers shouldn't be penalized. If it's not true, then that server was a jerk!

Yelp
One of the better taco spots in Seattle! I came by for lunch and had the carne asada and chorizo tacos along with their horchata. Tacos were really good, very well seasoned and tender meat, salsa verde was very flavorful. Nice fresh taste. comes with lime wedges and all the normal add ons. Horchata was nicely sweet and had lots of cinnamon added. Tortillas were okay, I would love to see hand made at this price point but not the end of the world. Tacos are $2.50-2.75 each but that is pretty on par with most places around here. Staff was very friendly and gave great recommendations. I would recommend street parking on california ave a little down the street, the taco truck is in a apartment parking lot across from a drive thru coffee shop so finding a spot is a bit challenging. All in all great experience and if i'm looking for tacos in west Seattle i'll definitely be back!

Yelp
For those who aren't aware. These guys have moved to Fauntleroy across from Trader Joe's! This is my FAVORITE taco truck in all of Seattle yo! These cats know what's up with the flavors. My favorite item is their pollo burrito but everything else on the menu is delicious as well. Check them out. Look for their red truck in a parking lot on Fauntleroy next to the laundry service place, across from Trader Joe's.

Yelp
Angel and his "El Chapulin Oaxaqueno" food truck helped sponsor our neighborhood block party this past Sunday. The tacos were so tasty...lots of comments from those attending the event! Even better was the way their employees handled orders and added a great personal touch to every interaction. Would highly recommend "El Chapulin Oaxaqueno" for your next catering event...they will knock it out of the park!

Christopher R.

Yelp
I ordered the Carne Asada burrito. Flavor is good but this is the tiniest burrito I've ever had. They also charge a dollar for limes. Rude staff
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
This taco truck rocks! I ordered two tacos (birria and asada) with a side of rice and beans. They crisped the meat on the flat top which gives it the caramelization that it deserves. The beans were intensely flavored. Even the Mexican rice was very pleasing which rarely happens.

M S.

Yelp
Been here a few times and the story has been the same recently. The steak quality sucks. $12 for a burrito, there's an expectation that the meat will be good quality. This "steak" clearly is not meeting expectations. I gave them a few tries to be sure of it. The flavor in the other ingredients, such as the salsas and seasonings are really good though. The quality of the steak just sucks. It resembled steak-ums, not tender juicy pieces. Rather, it was thin sheets of grissle.

Rob P.

Yelp
I would give this zero stars if I could worst Mexican food I've ever had. We had chicken mulitas, tortillas are old, chicken is rotten, old lettuce, who puts lettuce on a mulita? Rotten tomatoes as well again, who puts tomatoes on a mulita? 22 dollars for four mulitas for this garbage. Save your money don't eat here.
google avatar

Eliza D.

Yelp
The meat was so chewy I ate two bites (one of the steak taco and one of the chicken) and just threw it out. Was hoping it was my new taco spot in west Seattle!
google avatar

Ari T.

Yelp
This is our go to taco truck for my whole entire family! Not only do they have tacos there, but they also have the BEST wet burritos (I recommend the burrito plate with red sauce and pork). All of the food is packed with quality ingredients and deliciousness! The staff are also super nice too! We're regulars there and will continue to be regulars!

Bill M.

Yelp
My bean/cheese burrito was 90 percent tortilla, basically empty inside and was charged FIFTEEN DOLLARS for it!!! Then they have the nerve to ask for a tip at the end of ringing me up.
google avatar

Bob J.

Yelp
I would highly recommend this taco truck. Asada burrito had plenty of meat and was a good size The green salsa from this spot is incredible, the tomatillos were so fresh and it was the perfect consistency. Definitely would drive at least 20 minutes to have this.
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
Excellent, authentic, real. Rich delicious mole sauce. Service was outstanding as they went out of their way to make us something that wasn't specifically on the menu. Worth the extra few minutes wait. Vegetarian friendly. Would give them a 5-star if the rice and beans were improved just a bit.

Justin H.

Yelp
This place has the makings of a great taco truck, but damn that burrito is pretty small.
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
First visit here after walking past a hundred times. Our burrito expectations were fully met. Just another bland and flawed Seattle burrito. We both got regular carnitas. The burritos were DRY! Like no foreplay right after a conference call dry. Certainly nothing offensive or rank about the burritos. Just a blah experience.

Rich W.

Yelp
Awesome food. Nice people. They had about a half-dozen customers when I walked up, and still got my food pretty quickly. I had a carnitas burrito and it was so good. My missus had a breakfast burrito and she said she wanted to cry, it was so good. The menus that you find for online ordering don't do their real menu justice. They have so much more, including enchiladas and Mexican Coke.
google avatar

Sylvia K.

Yelp
I went to this taco truck and they only had tacos or quesadillas - they didn't have their full menu available for dinner the night I went, which was a bummer because I wanted a tamal. I wasn't super hungry, so I just ended up ordering two carne asada tacos and added on avocado slices. For meat choices, they have pollo/marinated chicken, adobada (marinated pork), asada (beef), lengua (tongue), and veggie. The tacos were a reasonable $2 each (I've been to taco trucks in other areas that are cheaper) and adding avocado was $2. Overall the tacos were all right. It came with limes and radishes. I'm still searching for that perfect taco truck street taco in Seattle (why is it so hard??). Maybe I'll go back one day to get one of their tamales.

Ashley J.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME!!! Best tacos in West Seattle. They fill the tacos all the way up and to make it even better, the people who work there were so friendly!!
google avatar

Traci J.

Yelp
We had been here before by day and waited a bit for our food. Tonite's decision was here, Taco Time, Tacos Guyamas, Puerto Vallarta or El Chucapabra and we chose here. Called in an order and it couldn't have been any easier. Drive in by the Red Cup sign, park off to the side and scoop your order. 2 carne asada tacos, el pastor burrito and carne asada burrito. All for $20!! Everything was great and tons of meat in everything. Definitely will back to this quasi drive thru
google avatar

Om Nom Newin N.

Yelp
Great tacos They have adobada which is pretty cool, and very cheeeeeeesy quesadillas! Limited menu, little outdoor seating. $2 a bit steep for avocado. Takes card.
google avatar

Sofie D.

Yelp
Highly recommend the tacos! Chicken, Asada, and Veggie are all winners. 3-4 per person should fill you up. If you like spicy, double up on the red salsa - it had me sweating! Also, great value. $2.50 tacos. YUM
google avatar

Nicholas D.

Yelp
This taco truck is delicious. I love the tacos and breakfast burrito. They're also super nice. One day I went at 3:30pm and they still made a breakfast burrito for me even though they stop doing breakfast at that time.
google avatar

Christy C.

Yelp
Great burritos and everything tastes very fresh. Great hot sauce too! Lots of options but the pork is my fav
google avatar

Jay V.

Yelp
Solid tacos from this truck in the junction. Has seating for a few people which makes this place good so you can eat right away. Tacos would not do as well to go unless you are working in the area and taking it back to office or shop. The carne asada and pork tacos are basic and appropriately served with onions, cilantro on two thin corn tacos. These are relatively small so will need at least 3 tacos. Prices reasonable. $2 per taco. They also have burritos and tortas on the menu which might travel better to go. No frills straight to the point. Good for the neighborhood, no need to travel from another neighborhood fr this as u should have one already in the neighborhood that is comparable. Overall if in neighborhood and it's not raining I would encourage a stop in and eat there.
google avatar

Fanny L.

Yelp
Always a good stop by after a Sunday at the farmers market! Everything is good and make on demand :) I always take the lengua for meat in my order. Good service, good food, good place... and not expensive = 5*
google avatar

Cathy B.

Yelp
Delicious! Tried the al pastor, adobado, lengua and carnitas tacos and they were all amazing! Also had the Chile verde tamale which was excellent. Can't wait to come back!

Dan C.

Yelp
Dislike writing this, they have slid a bit over the past 12 months; burritos were bland, chicken was not something to look forward to, sauces lost their spark. Hopefully they get the message. Maybe new ownership, something missing last 3 orders.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I order 6 tacos TOGO. I then asked for sauce packets as well. He pushed back and said there is already sauce in there. Come to find there was ONE sauce of each in the whole bag. I was looking forward to enjoying my tacos at home, but then this happens.. really.. talk about stingy on sauce.

Julia B.

Yelp
Easy 5-stars. They were fast, friendly, and the tacos were incredible. I got pastor and adobada tacos, and they were some of the best I've had. The dining area next to the truck is nice, and I definitely plan to go through the entire menu.
google avatar

Vince S.

Yelp
Finally managed to munch-- I've been eyeballing this truck for years! First off: price. Holy wow! You can get a full belly for under $10 and it's high-quality ingredients. I ordered a couple of seasonal veggie tacos and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of veggies. I'm pretty sure I've never had a cauliflower/brussels taco before-- El Chapulin Oaxaqueno introduced me and I'm not going back now. If you're looking for a full-service, swanky night out... don't go to a food truck. If, however, you're in the mood for a tasty, delightfully-thoughtful take on street tacos and/or beans + rice, hit up this truck!
google avatar

Sai A.

Yelp
SO GOOD! I finally got to try this place and it is as good as the rest of the reviews say. I had asada burrito, meat is super flavorful! You can get hot sauces on the side, green or red. Green had more flavor and I think red packed more heat. Looking forward to trying their tacos next.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in all of Washington hands down! I've tried multiple places in the Seattle area and this is the only place that compares to LA/San Diego Mexican food spots. Don't skip this one if you have a chance for a $2 taco!!!
google avatar

Vicki R.

Yelp
We used them for a couple customer appreciation events, the breakfast burritos are amazing and so filling. If you haven't stopped in here you are definitely missing out on good food. Angel was great to work with and made this a great event for us and our customers, thank you so much for everything :) Miller Paint Crew

Patti M.

Yelp
A few parents of college graduates reserved this food truck for the celebration, it was a big hit, everyone raved of the taste & experience. I would definitely recommend!!
google avatar

Stephen J.

Yelp
Pork tamales were Carne Tacos Quesadilla And the couple that run this establishment The rest of the menu will be reviewed at a later date... Great food, and friendly people that take pride in the quality of food they serve. Definitely visit this spot if you live in West Seattle! Ask for the punch card as well! I'm pretty sure mine will be punched out very sooon...
