El Charro Taco Shop

This little place is amazing. I finally tried out this little kind of a hole in the wall taco shop and as soon as I came in I was greeted by the sweetest girl, I told her it was my first time there and she was so happy for me to try the food. I ordered the surf and turf burrito which was $14.50. The burrito was a very good size and filled with flavorful tender meat and shrimp and a bunch of other yummy goodies. The burrito was so full of flavor and also lots of love. I would come back just because of the girls sweet service but now that the food was delicious too… I’m going to tell everyone about this place. Thank you guys for the great service and delicious food.

Great little taco shop for a quick visit. Super authentic atmosphere. We stopped by on a Monday for a late dinner. It was a one man shop that night. Server was nice and took our order quickly. He was also the one who cooked our food. Although he was the only one there, our food was delivered quickly and hot! Everything tasted great and was filling! If you're looking for a nice authentic, great tasting place to grab a bite, this is it!

The best fast food Mexican restaurant in town! Great service, great food, lots of specials, and friendly staff. What more could you ask for!!?? I consider myself to be of higher intellect so believe me when I say that absolutely nothing beats el charro taco shop!! When you come at night towards close they run out of everything. Steak taco was super dry and overpriced at 7.25. Wanted to add the beans and rice for 4$ but then they had no rice Very underwhelming food

El Charro is an absolute must try!! The owners always greet you with a smile and show appreciation for each customer. The inside of the resturant is clean and welcoming. My family and I have tried a variety of items off the menu and haven’t been disappointed. The food here is authentic and made with love.

We just searched up a taco place and El Charro came up. And its the best place to come for tacos burritos ect. First time here and they did not disappoint. Lovee it!!! Very good customer service as well!

Family and I came here as we were visiting SeaWorld. Wanted something to eat after, my mom saw this place on the map and decided to try it out. It was only one guy taking and making orders, it was quick even though he was by himself. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos and 3 carnitas tacos (I like mine plain), my other family members ordered sopes, tortas and burritos & everything was delicious. Mind you my dad & husband are both picky eaters and for them to say their torta & burrito was surprising for us

Absolutely an amazing place to eat at. I could eat here everyday if I could! The food is very delicious and the owners are very sweet & friendly. Grateful to have found this GEM in San Diego!!!

What an amazing place! Oscar is so friendly and welcoming! I would recommend ordering some carne asada fries and trying the horchata agua fresca! Definitely such a good spot and worth to try!

Love places like this! Wanted some better food than the crap they serve at Sea World so I was able to find this place and stop for a late night dinner... Staff is friendly, ordered a carne asada burrito and some rolled tacos... tortilla and meat were perfect, and the tacos were fresh, crunchy, and generous on cheese! Salsa bar was great, too Only down side was no public bathrooms and the parking lot was a little sketch with some homeless folk, but nothing crazy! Would definitely come back again to try something else

I was in the area and craved taco shop. I found this place on Yelp and was excited to try it. I ordered a full order of carne asada fries, and to my dismay - the fries were overcooked and almost unbearable to eat. The meat was flavorful but the fries were unpleasant.

Talk about LATE NIGHT COME UP!! We were leaving a show at Humphrey's and my husband wanted tacos before heading back to our hotel for the night. This little unassuming spot is tucked into a little strip of shops. We popped in a little after midnight. We were the only customers, but the service was speedy and polite. My husband got 3 asada tacos and I got 2 fish tacos. The food was solid and I'm full! We'll definitely come back when we're in the area again!

The most terrible service. I specifically called in 20 mins ahead of time with our order since we had to get to the airport. The order still wasn't ready when I got there so I waited another 10 mins. I told the rep at the counter to please hurry up as I had a flight to catch. She was completely inept and kept shuffling around for stuff and asking the guy behind the counter to help. They ran out of salsa, wouldn't provide chips, and they asked for an extra $4 if using a credit card. My total for three items was $56. That's insane for a taqueria. Despite this, they charge for cc fees. When I asked to add a jarritos, it was a whopping $6. WHAT. I walked out so frustrated. ON TOP OF EVERYTHING. The food was terrible. They forgot to add beans to my child's cheese quesadilla, the fish in my taco was so overfried and soggy, the shell was falling off and there was little taste in the salad half hazardly thrown over the tacos. First time I've seen lettuce on a taco. Avoid this place :/

What more can I say about this place? They serve homestyle Mexican food at a great price and their owners make you feel like you are familia! Today I had the chorizo burro and let me tell you, it was ginormous & delicious! The sausage was not greasy like other places and it blended well with the potatoes, cheese and guac. As others have mentioned, the flour torts are soft, flaky and actually have flavor! This meal was enough for two. But the main reason to love this place is by the way this beautiful couple treats their patrons - not like customers but guests. Each and every time I visit, I am greeted genuinely by both the Mr. & Mrs. running the show. And this is not just a one-off. I always observe wonderfully warm interactions with everyone approaching the counter, even today I heard "it's not your fault, don't worry," as a gentleman was struggling with the credit card kiosk. Time and again these fine folks engage in authentic conversation where their goal is for you to feel welcomed. In a day and age when life brings us mostly transactional experiences after the now standard "hi, welcome in," El Charro is truly a breath of fresh air. I will be back time and again to support this lovely family and I hope that my review further inspires viewers to give them some love!!

I came here randomly on a weekday a few weeks ago. I was getting my hair done nearby and omg the California burrito was so good! The girl working there was so kind she felt like a friend! I have been telling everyone I know to go try this little hidden gem!!

I came from FaZe Rug's video. This place has amazing vibes, people, service and tacos.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, heck maybe even in all of San Diego. The food is rich with flavor, and the portion sizes are large. I usually go at night, and when the music is blasting you know it's gonna be delicious. The salsas are my absolute favorite, the dark red is actually spicy! The creamy looking green one is lovely as well. It gives me a taste of what good Mexican food used to be since all my favorite old Mexican restaurants from childhood have closed down or gotten new ownership. No tourist pandering, just good flavors, and hot salsas! If anyone is visiting and wants to try what real so cal Mexican tastes like take them here!

Super friendly & serve you with a big smile ! It's our first time here , visiting from the Bay Area , we ordered the beef rolled tacos just to check , we were amaze with the portions , he puts a lot of cheese , guacamole & sour cream , it taste good & not too pricey for the amount we got in the plate , we walk out so satisfied & happy . It's a small place but not too bad for the price & food . I'll go back again if given a chance . I would check it out if you're in the area .

First, I read the reviews of El Charro Taco Shop here on Yelp. I was very hungry at 2:00 am and decided to give them a try. Called and yes they're open. Ordered Carne Asada plate. Arrived 10-minutes later, and my order was on the counter. Cost $15.00, which seemed a little high, but the order was huge and very heavy. Probably enough food for two or even three people. Consisted of steak, refried beans, and rice as usual. I immediately noticed that everything was very salty. Too salty for my taste. I did not enjoy the food, and I would not buy here again.

Great food and service. Oscar is the man. The burrito was the size of my arm and delicious. I would recommend!

Rode my bike to this place on a Saturday at 1pm. Show up, there are patrons sitting at tables eating. I proceed to the counter where the guy tells me they aren't taking orders. I ask how long if I wait and he just tells me no. I get times are tough with service work but based on reviews this is recurring and they clearly aren't too motivated to solve it. I can't recommend a place that may or may not be open when I show up.

Really good spot well recommended brought the family out here for vacation and seen this one on yelp reviews sound good but the food taste way better and what you see on yelp music while you eat makes you feel at home

The service is amazing. 2 great gentleman with a wonderful attitude. Explained items on the menus for two new visitors. We ordered the giant 3 meat burrito. We will be back. Telling all our friends about this new find. Ambiance is throw back to Mexican style dining. Enjoy.

Came in for a chicken California burrito and they gave me carne asada, it's ok, came back the next day and they made it right. 5 stars for caring for their customers. I'll be back more and more as they made it right and were super kind.

Service & food was excellent! I had beef rolled tacos while my friends had a carnitas burrito and carne asada tacos. We also had two sides of the refried beans. We ate everything because we just couldn't stop. The salsa were flavorful as were the agua frescas. Thank you for a great experience!

Stopped by on a whim since I had time to kill before my class and whoa, I was blown away by the California burrito. I asked for crispy fries because that's the best way to eat fries in my opinion and they were done perfectly. They had an actual crisp to them. Not all taco shops do this even when asked. The Cali has no pico and already comes with the guac and sour cream so no need to adjust anything. Salsas were also very good. Tortilla didn't taste generic like it does at Lolita's. It was fresh. The actual place was clean and inviting. Not fancy but also not a dingy hole in the wall you'll find in South Bay San Diego. I would definitely come here again.

I usually get the California burritos and they are my favorite in the area. Today I tried the carnitas plate and it did not disappoint. The carnitas was really tasty and tender and they do not skimp on the portions, I could not finish it and honestly could have split it with someone. Highly recommended! Always fast excellent service!

Amazing food and hospitality. I had their California burrito and for the first time in years I could actually taste the tortilla in addition to the ingredients. Too often the taco shops use a tortilla that has no flavor. My son had the Enchilada plate and he loved it. My wife had 2 chicken enchiladas and they were so big she could only finish one. Their food is so good that I ordered another Cali Burrito to go.

The service was great! The waitress was super sweet and shared her recommendations. The food on the other hand was not great. We ordered the roll taquitos, asada fries and some adobada tacos. The taquitos looked great but it is literally just a rolled tortilla with no filling (e.g. photo attached). The carne asada lacked flavor and was chewy. We ate less than half and threw our entire order away.

Our new place when in town. The help was super friendly, breakfast burritos and cali burritos were amazing. Guacamole was fresh, salsa flavorful. God Bless it!!

This was the best food my family had on our vacation to San Diego. Everything we ordered was excellent. The staff were very friendly. I'm going to be daydreaming about this place for the rest of my life.

my group and i came in late around 9:30pm and we had about 20 people in our party. i had recommended the place bc 1) i LOVEEEE their fries, literally obsessed with them no joke and 2) my friends really liked their food when they tried it recently. they were so kind to us and they brought out all our food at such an impressive pace! and the quality of the food stayed amazing and consistent the whole time! it was such a nice atmosphere too, super comfortable and open and it was very relaxing to eat there after coming in from a big event. (will definitely call ahead next time we bring in a big group though, sorry about that!) the food was delicious and well-prepared, the staff and service were absolutely wonderful, and the place was clean and comfortable. i wish i had pictures of the food; i would definitely come again and try the burritos bc WOW!! and their torta was HUGE and delicious! grateful for their hospitality! we will be coming again!

The adobada tacos as well as the chicken tacos were so fresh and HUGE! The guacamole and the salsa were fresh and clearly made fresh. Their agua frescas were delicious, we had the piña and horchata and both were perfectly sweet. Muy Rico! Perfect taco shop to stop in with great employees, prices and food.

Wow! I'm really impressed after coming back here for the first time in 4-5 years. I was able to talk to the owner for 10 minutes and got a great feel for how difficult it has been to keep business going. As for the food, I ordered the Carne Asada and Pollo Asado Taco combo with Rice and beans. After talking to the owner he recommended the Carnitas instead of the Pollo... so I switched. The Carne Asada and Carnitas were both fantastic! They were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Also I really enjoyed the beans! They are more on the whole pinto side than refried which makes it slightly unique. All an all I really loved this place and definitely will return! Its hard to stick out in Point Loma with so many Taco Shops within a small few square mile radius... but El Charro is definitely worth your time!

I stopped in late last night, on 6/13/24. Hands down the best burrito I've had since moving to San Diego in 2010. I had the super burrito with carnitas. The first thing I noticed was the PERFECTLY blistered burrito skin (large flour tortilla). Unfortunately, almost everywhere else simple warms it up and it stays tough and chewy, so it's a huge plus when a place makes the simple effort that takes a bit of time longer and a little bit of attention not to overcook it! Everything was flavorful and fresh and nothing was overly salty or greasy. Also, the burrito was wrapped nicely and firmly, not too tight or too loose so everything stayed intact. I'll definitely be back!

headed here during midnight after a concert and thank goddd a bomb taco place was open. the owner is super sweet and topped off my horchata after i finished waiting for my order. get all the sauces it's so good. i would go here again if i lived nearby.

This place is absolutely amazing. We are from Arizona and this is by far the best carne asada we have ever had! The lady up front was nothing less than spectacular. You walk into the store and the smell is amazing, the service was phenomenal. 10/10 would drive back down here from Arizona to get this food! They made fresh guac for me, they ran out of rice because they had a catering order earlier and she made it appoint to apologize.

Just had El Charro provide food for my daughter's graduation party and everyone loved the food. The Adobado and pollo asado drew the most raves. Jorge and the rest of the staff were super nice and helpful in providing the food as well as plates, forks, napkins and all of the fixings. The one slight negative is we could have used more of the cilantro and onions. But overall, big thumbs up for El Charro!

Best refreshing horchata after the beach. The guy working the gave us another refill and was working hard making the food. The place is a cool environment and cozy.

We had the adobada tacos and the carne asada chips, and it has been years since I've been this happy about my food and just moved to write a review about it right away. It gave me nostalgia because this is what taco shop food used to taste like in the 90s, no matter where you went it was all good. I can't wait to try other items on their menu. Also the place is super clean.

The guy at the counter was nice but the food was not good. It was a small place with lots of tables and chairs. We ordered the Carne Asada Fries and they were good at first but the Carne Asada were filled with bones. My husband ordered the hot Cheetos burritos with the carne asada and that was filled with bones also! I got 3 different tacos, Carne Asada Taco, pollo Carne Asada Taco, Carnitas Taco and honestly the flavor was good but the meat was off and the carne asada had bones in it again! We had high hopes but this place left us wanting to throw up.
