Big Plans Unfold for Sister Restaurants Cultura and El Chingon - Eater Denver

"El Chingon Mexican Bistro, originally located at 4326 Tennyson Street in a converted bungalow, will be relocating to the third and fourth floors of a new building at 4337 Tennyson Street by early 2019. The new location will feature the main restaurant on the third floor and a rooftop patio on the fourth floor. The move is due to the current location causing a bottleneck in serving guests. Owner Lorenzo Nuñez Jr. plans to retain the current Tennyson space for a new, yet-to-be-announced concept." - Josie Sexton

Just so/so. It was nothing spectacular. The chicharrones (pictured here) were alright. It tasted like what I could get from local food trucks for much less money. I think the pozole was pretty good, but I've certainly tried much more amazing pozole. Honestly, I probably will not be a returning customer, although I hope others find this review helpful.

Would give this place 10 stars if I could. They don't just have great carnitas, they've got THE BEST carnitas. Unlike any other restaurants carnitas I've had. Definitely recommend you get that first. Their Chingon Papas are great. If you like a cocktail with some kick, try the Pistola. Update 3/7: just went for taco Tuesday and good lawd! Carne asada, Chicharron, pollo Tinga, pollo asada all amazing... Got an order of Chicharrones too and I could order 30 of toast they are so good!

Half of it is a bar/lounge, the other half had tables. It's really dark and loud like a club. I would go there for drinks maybe but not to sit down and eat. I ordered to go and I guess the hostess couldn't hear me because I got the wrong food. Portions are small and expensive. The rice and beans tasted like the ones you get at any cheap Mexican place. The chips were obviously the cheap ones from those huge bulk bags but they didn't even fill the to go box more than halfway. The food tasted ok but it's not worth the price.

El Chingon Bistro is our new spot! The food is fantastic, the staff is welcoming and on top of it, and the environment is relaxing and a beautiful space. This is a great place for a meal or a party spot for drinks with friends.

El Chingon just opened back up and it's great to see it back. The space is bigger and they are going to have a great patio this summer. Let's talk about the food! The dishes are family recipes modernized by their amazing chef. I had the Carne Asada and it was 🔥. Their Carnitas plate is amazing too. Shout out to Oscar for taking care of us during a very busy evening. Make time for this place. It's worth the visit. We'll be back!

I really enjoyed El Chingon! Cool ambience inside. I sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and attentive. Had the carnitas and it was out of this world, highly recommend! Pozole was also fantastic to start. Excellent margaritas too.

Excellent Food! My friends and I decided to try el chingon and we were amazed. The asada tacos were definitely my favorite! If you enjoy some drinks “la gloria” is delicious.

Went to dinner at the new location for the first time. Man, Lorenzo and his staff have it nailed. It was my 22nd wedding anniversary so a trip to my local cantina was out of the question. Needed to up my game. Had civeche app....delicious. Asada for my main, wife had the asada tacos. Both were cooked perfectly. Tender and flavorful. Been going since they opened in Arvada 11/12 years ago (?), each place better than the last. Kudos El Chingon!

Yelp
Went on a walk with my friend and ended up grabbing a few cocktails and dishes at El Chingon. We sat at the bar top and the bartender was very attentive and helpful with getting our drinks and food out quickly. There are Tuesday specials and we took advantage of the $6 margaritas. Hand shaken and spicy!!! Hand muddled jalapeños are always a 10/10 for me. we split the chicken lime salad which was a generous portion with great flavor. I ordered a side of fries and was pleasantly surprised with the homemade ketchup! My friend ordered the tortilla soup and said ie was great but it was SPICY! There are a few tables that have couches and it looks more lounge like -- would definitely sit over there if I was on a date or wanted to relax a bit.

Yelp
It's permanently closed. It would be nice to have known that before going there. Needs to be updated.

Yelp
Identity crisis and need to work out service issues! There was a DJ and turntable at the entrance. Is this a restaurant or a club? Know the area and the clientele that live in the area which would be your regulars. That area isn't a clubbing area. What really made it say "we are a club" is the mouthwash in the bathroom. See photo for how disgusting it was. On a positive note, the food was delicious! We walked in and there was only one other table of 2 and a few people at the bar. We were seated right away since we had a reservation. But it took about 10 minutes before one of the 3 bartenders walked by and asked if we had been helped. Finally, he figures out who our waitress is and she comes over to take our drink order. Once the drinks can we ordered an app of guacamole and chips. Then a few minutes later she came back to take our entree order. Our food came out extremely fast but everything arrived at once. We didn't get our app first in order to enjoy it before our entrees came out. Everything tasted delicious but the pork needed more sauce. The place would be good for an app and drink at the bar (since it seems the bartenders are attentive) but they need to figure out their identity crisis and improve their service or they won't make it in that neighborhood.

Yelp
We had a really nice dinner for a party of 10 last week. The service was fantastic, Lorenzo the owner came to our table many times and even sent us a bottle of Azunia tequila. The food was beautiful and at a fair price point for the area. We had a fabulous time and would come back. Thank you

Yelp
Food and family are always great. Been going there since Arvada days. David and Lorenzo mama would be proud of this place. Jeff and Tammy

Yelp
Their breakfast burritos are the best kept secret in the area. Amazing flavor, homemade taste and the salsa gives it just enough kick. During their main menu hours their carna asada is phenomenal but should definitely be served with rice or beans so be sure to request. The camarón / shrimp is any guacamole lover's heavenly dream!!!! Can't wait to keep exploring the menu.

Yelp
A flop. Food meh. Short menu. Drinks meh. Not the El Chingon from Tennyson to avoid confusion.

Yelp
One of my new favorite Mexican restaurants in Colorado. The ambiance is really fun, service was great, manager was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the food was incredible. The Chicharron burrito was literally the best burrito I have ever had. I will be back for more!

Yelp
Had my birthday dinner at El Chingon Bistro recently and was super happy with this great neighborhood gem. The food was great (we had the elote, ceviche, and chili rellenos), drinks were perfect, and the service was outstanding (thank you Johanna!). It was also competitively priced, making it an affordable choice for more occasions. We'll be back, for sure!

Yelp
We were excited to eat at the new EL Chingon restaurant. We had been patrons of the original location for years. After 2 years of being closed, we were happy to see them reopen in their new location. My fav was their posole among many other plates. The atmosphere was quite nice. Very trendy with a nice bar, larger space, and great location. There is no website to look at a menu or to indicate that dinner plates are served starting at 5 PM. They open at 3 PM, however, there are small plates with few options. It's more like a happy hour with no ability to order from any dinner menu. We came back at 5 PM and were seated right away. The staff is very friendly & service is great. We were a little disappointed in the food. The posole was not good & I couldn't eat it. The starter papas and shishito peppers were fine. The Carne Asada was not as good as the original. This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant. We were hoping for a similar experience from before.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Love the food and the entire staff. It's never a dull moment. Awesome location in lo-hi. Definitely recommend checking this spot out!!

Yelp
This was on Eater as the hot spot. Food was not good and ambiance was so-so. There are way better Mexican restaurants, probably 30 within a 5 mile radius. Save your money.

Yelp
We had been regulars at the old location of El Chingon Bistro. Went to the new location in the Highlands tonight and it didn't disappoint! The atmosphere is beautiful! It is trendy, yet still homey and you always feel like family when you are there. The service was phenomenal and as always the food was fire! Love El Chingon! We will be back soon!

Yelp
Food was fantastic! Service was meh...in the 2 hours we were having dinner our waitress did not check in enough for us to keep drinks refreshed. So we sat waiting with our thirst for a yummy margarita or beer. While I enjoyed the ambiance, the music was loud enough that our table of 6 could only talk to the one person on either side. Def could not have a table-wide convo. And I'm in my 30s with good hearing, so might not bring a group there on a week night if we want to have conversation. It's early days at this new location so hoping they adjust!

Yelp
I mean what's not the love? The view of Denver is amazing from this new location, the food is fantastic as usual and the team just treats you like family!!! We love this place!
