New Fort Worth Mexican Restaurant El Chingon Arrives From San Diego | Eater Dallas

"Opening December 18 in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, this 6,000-square-foot nightclub and restaurant brings a loud, party-forward take on “bad-ass Mexican” cuisine and cocktails from a San Diego group founded in 2017. The menu highlights theatrical dishes such as fire-roasted elote, “Bad Ass” fajitas flambéed tableside with tequila, and cheesy birria tacos, alongside margaritas and inventive cocktails like the Pancho Villa (banco tequila, lime, salt, Jarritos) and the TJ 1920 (Olmeca Altos Reposado with a Mexican Coca-Cola reduction and bitters). Cocktails can be upgraded “bad ass” style—served in a goblet with a Tajín rim, a Dulces Típicos Jabalina Xtreme candy straw and a paleta—and there’s an oversized, shareable Super Bad Ass Madero served in a halved watermelon. The space is designed as an Instagrammable party destination inspired by Pancho Villa and pistoleros, featuring Mexican-inspired art, 10-foot hand-carved Calavera sugar skull doors and a hand-painted Airstream trailer; promotional imagery reinforces a raucous, costume-friendly vibe. Programming runs from happy hour to the early dawn with DJs, taco and tequila flights, bottle service, branded “bad ass” drink packages, and daytime “Sundias” events with brunch and cocktail specials, and the Fort Worth opening will debut with a weekend of parties and ticketed events." - Brittanie Shey

When you go, expect that it’s not just a restaurant, it’s a bar that’s hopping!! My man and I seemed a bit out of place as we are older…but we didn’t feel it!! We wanted late night Mexican food on a Sunday and well, let’s face it; Since COVID, this isn’t easy to find… We didn’t care! Food was delicious, Service was super great and the ladies were sweet and attentive (despite other reviews)!!!! Beer was good and salsa tasted delicious (we made it Christmas and mixed the red and green together)!!!! I’ll happily return to this young vibing joint!! (PS. If you don’t want to wait on the kitchen they had a walk up Taco cart!!) Super cool place! (Sorry about the photo color, the bar really was on fire!! 😉😏

El Chingon Fort Worth – Review: El Chingon in Fort Worth is a vibrant spot known for its bold and authentic Mexican flavors. The menu features a great mix of tacos, tortas, and traditional dishes with fresh ingredients and rich seasonings. The margaritas and cocktails are standout, perfectly complementing the food. The atmosphere is lively and colorful, making it a fun place to enjoy with friends or family. Service is friendly and attentive. Overall, El Chingon offers a tasty, authentic Mexican dining experience with a cool, casual vibe. Highly recommended for taco lovers!

Google
Not a fan of this place, food was very mediocre but big portions, the mimosa tower was mostly water with orange juice, not worth it for $70. The only good thing is the frozen margarita ñ. We had a reservation but when we arrived hostess told us they dont take reservations so our group of 8 were seated in a table for 4 with a tiny and short table, we had to hold our plates with our hands. Service is not good, food is just meh but the music was on point, my compliments to the dj.

Marisol A.

Google
Such a great atmosphere, food, and staff. The music was a great mixture of genres and there are so many photo opportunities. Oh! And how could I forget, all of the drink options are awesome and different to anywhere else I've been. We'll definitely be back soon.

Cynthia C.

Google
Quick service on a Friday afternoon. The paleta margaritas are awesome. The queso also did the job. We tore it up. 🧀 Oh, and the AC was delightful.

Google
So I come in multiple times a week for the elotes and the 5$ fruit for my girlfriend. Today I came in and got the elotes extra Cheetos and sat there and had a beer enjoying the music. I think I scared one of the workers there when I came back in a hurry because I thought I hadn’t gotten any Cheetos. There were extra in the bag! 😂 super nice and super helpful. Thank you to the girl with the long dark hair.

Google
Came in at 9pm & was told i could seat myself, I sat for 15 minutes with no service so I ended up walking to the bar & ordering there. I ordered 3 tacos, a burrito & a drink totaling $50. Food wise, the carne tacos were really good but the burrito, the surf & turf, it was extremely dry because they didn't give me the sauces that's supposed to go on it or with it. The burrito was huge but was only given 4 pieces of shrimp. Couldn't finish because it was so dry, a mass of just rice & steak basically & hardly any cheese inside. The bartender who helped me was really nice & I appreciate her but I probably wouldn't come back to eat.

Google
My friend and I decided to check them out during happy hour and ready enjoyed the food and atmosphere. She got a drink that she said was just ok but I don't drink soni can't speak on that. The elote was AMAZING!!!! I'm already planning on returning to get some more. The rolled tacos were fried a little too hard for my liking and thile chicken was a little dry so I asked for ranch to help out with that. Their salsa is sooooo good (the red one not the green one lol). Lots of cute photo opts and a cool little dj section.

Yelp
Our Halloween pub crawl kicked off from here. It was a nice day so we enjoyed the open air seating of the large wrap-around patios. The decor is really fun if you like sugar skulls! The servers were friendly and efficient. We did not try the food. There was loud DJ music playing inside for a party vibe. Great location in the heart of the bar district.

Rashad B.

Yelp
Served me tacos with hard ass cold tortillas and swore that's how they were made and gave me a hard time bout sending em back to the kitchen

Yelp
The food was really good! We went at happy hour for margs and they were okay. We got the loaded fries and the nachos and both were on the happy hour menu. The fries were amazing. The service was awful. We were there between 4 and 5 and the restaurant was not full at all. We were frequently having to waive down the waitress.

Yelp
Visited El Chingon from California on May 7th and had a great experience ! Jennifer was our server and she was amazing, Sean the manager was also very helpful. Will visit next time we're in town!
google avatar

Jess G.

Yelp
This is a fun place for only drinking and music. The food not tasty. It is not Mexican cuisine. The tortillas are definitely from a bag and not fresh as well as the beans and rice. For the cost of the plates, you can probably find better food at a fast food restaurant for less. Very disappointed. It is overrated. The service was great just not the food.

CrPbtt G.

Yelp
The atmosphere is super chaotic and people are very rude. For a reason apparently... they're stealing phones in this bar and sending them to china. Multiple friends of mine have had phones stolen from here. Don't go.

Yelp
Directly across from the tattoo studio I was getting work done at....the music and aroma from the food was calling me. I had a two hour wait til my appointment time anyways. I wasn't about to venture far in 6 inch heels so why not take a seat close by. I'm glad I did! I starting eating so quick I half heartedly took pictures for you guys ;) When you check in here, you get a Chef's pick for free. My son chose the Queso Fundido and added Carne Asada. Chips with Salsa Verde and Tomato Salsa are complimentary. I ordered the Fresh Mex Salad with a avocado vinaigrette dressing minus the Corn with Shrimp and Shredded Chicken. The shredded chicken wasn't my favorite because it was like a sweet barbecue shredded chicken. There's not a lot of teas, and non alcoholic beverages here at least that's what I was told :( I was driving too far so I couldn't risk it. But I really love the atmosphere. They have tv screens everywhere. Cigarette machine on back patio. Small dance area. Fights are shown here. DJs are requested here. I would love to come back just to dance and look at all the beautiful people on Friday and Saturday night.

Samantha M.

Yelp
The food was great, I also had the margarita flight which I really liked the Chamango Margarita. Was really looking forward to the elote but it was kind of a let down. The shrimp tacos were sooo good though. Our waitress was friendly but could've been a little more attentive.

Yelp
Food/drinks decent at best and I am being generous. Employees are rude, disrespectful and completely untrained. The so called "General Manager" thinks he owns the town with his little job, the most prepotent and unprofessional individual there is, no wonder the staff is so horribly trained. First time in town trying to get the TX experience but boy! what a bunch of uneducated, rude employees this place has, starting from the "GM". Sad that a place represents a city so badly!
google avatar

Yelp
Everything I tried was good. Hot food was hot, cold dishes were cold. Wait staff courteous and priced right.

Yelp
FOOD INSTAGRAM: @northtx.gemz **** WHAT THEY'RE KNOWN FOR: bottle service/drinks! A great staple on 7th street to complete your bar hop stops. I love this place because they make the best paletta shots! THE VIBE: very colorful, lowkey rockstar vibes, pink heavy. Attracts a Latin crowd but I love going here because vibes are always lit and they play music from all genres. Definitely gives a more club vibe than bar but it's technically a lit bar/restaurant. PRICE: gifted WOULD I COME BACK? Yes. **** Overall Rating: 8.5/10 - One of my favorite bars on 7th street, @jackiegnunez invited me to show me all the great food options they have and the happy hour prices they offer! - El Chingon is a known spot for good Latin music and great vibes. Their bottle service sections come at such an affordable price you can party with your friends on a budget but still have a good time. Some of the menu prices are listed towards the end. They have different prices ranging in different days. - If you don't drink and just wanna enjoy some good bar food, El Chingon has so many different options at such a CHEAP price! You can't go wrong with loaded fries and I recommend trying them and the super sandia drink! I don't even like beer but the fresh water melon bowl and chamoy really took it to the next level. - Jackie recommended the carnita tacos to me but only got one but I wish I got them all carnita bc the meat was super juicy and delicious. Maybe skip out on the grilled chicken options! - Whether you come here at night or come enjoy a fun afternoon with friends, definitely come to 7th street and don't forget to stop by El Chingon.

Yelp
I was there yesterday for a friend's birthday. There was a girl dancing like a stripper on the table so much to where I thought I was at a strip club, her entire vagina was out and then her boyfriend started fingering her. The entire bar and staff just watched. Disgusting. Especially since they serve food. Trashy af go somewhere else.

Natalie J.

Yelp
Elotes were good Rolled tacos: chicken was dry, and you could taste the peanut oil they used. Service sucked, wasn't sure who the server was, and we were ignored a lot. Food came out at different times. Def more of a bar vibe than restaurant so have low expectations on food quality.

Yelp
Server seemed too busy - food was horrible - menu was not easy to understand and the server got irritated when we asked questions! Before all this we had deputy dog standing at the entrance who didn't say a word and I finally asked if he was blocking us from entering or waiting for our ID because he never said a word! And we were frisked before entering!???? Never had that before! And they charge to use a credit card! We were never offered chips & salsa!!!!! A horrible experience all the way around! Treated like criminals walking in, poor service, horrible food and all a rip off for the prices and charges for using a card. DO NOT GO! Worst experience ever in Fort Worth! Will never go back to this place!
google avatar

Yarisel S.

Yelp
Loved this spot. Came to Dallas for a girls trip and had a great time here! Service was amazing and food was pretty good. Their drinks were great! Loved the paleta on top of the margarita

Juanita G.

Yelp
We were at La Chingona and arrived early , place was empty and chill, so we had a table at the very front, no one ever told us it was a reserved table or anything, passed 12 am the securities arrived and very rudely just started saying, yall gotta move yall gotta go, and we were like what? Apparently they had sold the table and were rushing us out. We were just trying to get our belongings and they were trying to kick us out. Awful service, not even a " hey we need the table for a service or nothing" worst service ever.
google avatar

Amber R.

Yelp
A group of friends and I visited last Sunday for brunch and to have a few cocktails. When we arrived around 1 the restaurant had a few people in there. It's noted to seat your self which we did. We waited for about 15-20 minutes before the bartender came from around the bar since she noticed we never were greeted/helped. She took both food and drink orders and we were delivered both the food and drinks back in about 10 minutes. The food was just okay nothing to rave over (a couple friends went to eat someplace else after because they were not impressed.) and the cocktails were "watered down" (this was coming from the 5 other people I was with). We really wanted this place to be good because a few of us had visited the San Diego location and it is consistently good.

Eva C.

Yelp
If I could leave a zero I WOULD!!! Went on a Thursday / Friday 2/16/24 A parrot nose girl at the bar was hella rude!!! Don't give an attitude when I can give a bigger one"hun" just tasteless all around. We ended up at "Whiskey Garden" much better!!! El Chignon DO BETTER/ HIRE BETTER !!!
google avatar

Marquessa G.

Yelp
3 stars for the food, 5 stars for service so I'll split the difference and give this place a 4. Went during happy hour and we were the only ones there. I'm a month postpartum so I can only have 1 drink and I had my little one with me (I didn't realize it's a club) and the staff was so nice and accommodating. They made sure we were at a table that could fit the car seat and recommended one of their top selling drinks (it's a watermelon, agave, and coconut drink) which was very good. The food came out fast and for happy hour it was a big portion. As far as Mexican goes, not the best I've had but I wouldn't be mad if I was going there to turn up. It looks like a fun establishment later in the evening and without the kid. I would return for that.
google avatar

Melissa R. G.

Yelp
The fish tacos are a must try!!! And their Bad Ass Chico was good! Service was on point. Would definitely recommend a stop here!
google avatar

Tina Louise B.

Yelp
Go somewhere else! Food poisoning! I am still sick 24 hours later. I knew it tasted weird, dry and old but...my God! YUCK! NO ONE THERE CARES!
google avatar

Petra N.

Yelp
Well.. I'm contemplating about the stars. I mean I did have a nice time but I was also super drunk. So I think the drinks might have bigger factors on why I did have a nice time, because service sucks!!! It's slows, they need more bartenders, and you have to wait around for a long time to get anything at all. Even water! People get soooo drunk here I think they need more bouncers. And while it's cool and all I think this bar is a little bit too small for whatever they are trying to accomplish, which is probably Vegas club! ‍‍ You can totally see the owners walking around like they are important or something! Definitely not really down to earth. But again w how much booze I consume I don't remember much! Except that service were super slow. Maybe I'll go back and try them again soon!
google avatar

Mariah P.

Yelp
Fast service! Food is pretty good and consistent but I absolutely love the drinks, they don't hold the alcohol!
google avatar

Lily M.

Yelp
We walked by this place and decided to give it a try during our bar hop night. I immediately noticed police presence as I walked in. They asked us for our ID's at the door, searched our purses, and wanded us. We were sat immediately after arriving by our hostess, who was very friendly. It took a little bit of time for someone to come around and take our order, but that is understandable for a Friday night. It was very loud inside, I couldn't even hear myself think. We should have sat outside. This place was so loud, that I had to give my order to the waitress in her ear. I had a frozen Chamango Margarita and it was so good, they topped it off with tajin and a delicious mango paleta. I tried the Birria tacos which were good, but didn't come with cheese like they usually do. We went to the bathroom to wash our hands, and noticed a bathroom attendant who hands you the paper towel for a tip. There were also signs all over the bathroom saying please tip, tips are our only income. This annoyed me! I can grab my own paper towel! Overall try this place out if you are in the area. The music is nice and if you get drunk enough none of the things stated in this review will bother you at all.
google avatar

Samantha Y.

Yelp
Ambience, very colorful and lively. GREAT place for day drinking. The food was okay, but also, I personally don't like Tex-Mex, I love authentic Mexican food, but the portions were very sizable! I also LOVE that there is an option on the menu to buy the kitchen crew beers! Service was nice, I know they're short staffed so our server definitely did the best he can while also hand Other big tables. I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
Over priced. We earned in at 7pm on a Saturday and sat for 30min for table service and food. I got up and asked 2 bartenders if anyone was waiting on the Hightower tables we'd been sitting st and she said, Yeah someone will be with you shortly. I mentioned we'd been there for 30 already and she suggested they'd "get to us' when they could. In the meantime people at the bar c9ntinued to get drinks and as more people came in and sat in VIP sections they were waited on and given drinks and appetizers by the bartenders and server while we and 2 other tables that came after us had noone come to the table. We got up and left at the 50min mark. And that's about 40min too long. I'll not return.
google avatar

Brandy A.

Yelp
Decided to pop in one week night while visiting a friend in town. We arrived during happy hour (3-7pm) so we snagged a few specials: crispy potato tacos and drinks. Food was hot and fresh. Service was fast. Nice music selection. If you're looking for a chance to people watch, Wednesday is probably not the best night. However, it worked for us because we were just two friends catching up on life.
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
Worst service ever. Staff was so rude to us and racist I cannot believe the service we got. Did not want us to have a good time and they kept telling us to be quiet during the cowboys game. Will never go back there again. So uptight.

Reviewer B.

Yelp
Soooooo WEIRDDDDD. I was in the restroom and a man came into the restroom.. opened up these two ladies restroom door and literally kicked them out of the restroom???????? Started yelling at them to leave their drink and shit. I don't even know what these girls did. But COULD IT NOT HAVE WAITED UNTIL THEY WERE OUT OF THE RESTROOM. He was sayin that girls couldn't go to the restroom together. Straight up inappropriate. We left immediately. Won't ever be back. Definitely telling every woman I know what I witness. So freaking weird. Lol. I saw reviews from a different night already posted. A whole different situation. And I'm glad. If management can just enter a restroom stall like how I witnessed tonight, every woman deserves to know do not go there!!
google avatar

Juan M.

Yelp
The atmosphere of El Chingon is always so enjoyable and is the epitome of what Fort Worth stands for. I want to thoroughly recognize an employee named AJ that works at this location. Aj, always has a welcoming attitude towards the customers and staff. Can't ask for a better place of business.
google avatar

Leilani T.

Yelp
We came in for the bar crawl and this was our first experience! BEST bar we went to. We brought our baby and it was so fun, great drinks, family friendly , great music! David took care of use and runs a great ship here! We will definitely be back... next weekend! Lol
google avatar

Angel N.

Yelp
Not a bad place for drinks and food. They have complimentary chips and salsa and a Yelp coupon for checking in. However, when I tried to redeem if no one knew what the coupon was so they just took $4 off the tab. We got the chamamgo drink and made it "bad ass" which added a tamarindo straw and a coconut paleta for $8. It was yummy but for $19 it wasn't that strong. As for appetizers we got the chicharrones el chignon which came with chipotle Mayo. The two paired really well together! For entrees we got the enchiladas and 4 tacos (fish, shrimp, Al pastor, and carne asada). All the tacos were good my favorite being the shrimp one. Service however wasn't that great. It took 30-40min after being seated for our order to get taken and it took 40min to get the check and to go box.
google avatar

William C.

Yelp
What isn't to love about this place? Great tacos, tequila, and spicy senoritas. It's like if you mixed Bottled Blonde with a Tex Mex restaurant and a salsa dancing club. Easily going to be the best club in Texas in no time.

Hector F.

Yelp
Total disappointment. The beef fajitas were very chewy, shrimp looked boiled instead of grilled, and very pricey. I told the waitress that the beef fajitas were like chewing on rubber, and inedible. She smiled and said, okay! I should have also brought a fly swatter to fight off all the flies.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Very disappointing at this place. I didn't even get a chance to order after feeling attacked by the manager because my husband was carrying my water cup. As a manager, it was very disappointing to be talked to like that I felt attacked. I was an out of town or from Chicago and came in for a bite to eat. I hope someone talks to this manager, because there was no talking to him. All he kept telling me was it was illegal or against the law, which I find very threatening, so I just left after I tried to get it! He was talking over me. He was rude on purpose!
google avatar

Liliana G.

Yelp
Great service and the atmosphere is always so fun ! The food here is delicious and they have a lot to choose from. A shout out to Jackie for an amazing service!
google avatar

Valeria C.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I was excited to see what the fuss was about especially bc I really don't see many Hispanic friendly places by 7th. We went around 4 on a Thursday. The music was good- kind of loud, the atmosphere was nice. I ordered the elote, potato tacos, house margarita and a paleta shot. The tacos were mostly lettuce vs the potato filling. The drinks were very watered down. I'm a light drinker & I couldn't taste anything but the mix. I would go again for the music and vibe but pre drink for sure.
google avatar

Johann S.

Yelp
Fantastic meal, really loved having some southern California taco shop options like the cali burrito... we loved it and will def be back.
google avatar

Daniel V.

Yelp
What can be more Chingon then @elchingonfw with @djaidenbrasher in the house - Has honestly been a wonderful journey so far and always a go to spot when on 7th street! - Editor: @steezy_nyle
google avatar

Hana F.

Yelp
Amazing concept. The back of house is everything. Food was delicious. Service was mediocre. However the most disappointing part was not being able to get a decent margarita. Come on. If anything that is the only thing I care about. Also sad every employee walked past a discarded beer bucket in the middle of the floor.
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
This place is awesome! I've been here several times recently and we have had a blast every time! The margaritas are DELICIOUS but be ready for a sugar rush! The food is good. I have gotten the tacos and the corn which was great. I mainly get drinks though when I have been here. The servers have always been super friendly and they do a great job. If you hang out at night the DJs have the place dancing all night! I will be back again soon!

Stacey R.

Yelp
Security took females out the restroom for helping their sister when she needed help.

Yaritzalin R.

Yelp
I'm 3 months pregnant they kicked out my husband because he didn't tip the guy from the restroom Bad service just horrible they dragged us out like crazy by the necks.NEVER COMING BACK
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Great food and fun atmosphere if you're looking for a fun place to drink and eat good food! I am from San Diego and go to the original location in downtown and this location does not disappoint. The food is great, I highly recommend the carne asada plate and taco flight. They also have the best Ranch Waters in town!

Vika S.

Yelp
I'm not coming back. Music is SO terrible. Cocktails are overpriced and you need to wait for them for hours. + weird vibes Not to mention the fact that the whole neighborhood hates the place because of their loud music over 95 decibels on weekdays.

Koryann C.

Yelp
Horrible. Males came into the bathroom (4) and kicked me and my friend out. It was a violation and so weird. He pushed and shoved us out the way and made us leave FROM THE BATHROOM. WEIRDOS. And after I left, one the bouncers commented on my body. So fucking weird.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Jadyn and the rest o of the staff never cease to amaze me. Amazing bottle service, food, and experience at El Chingon!

Yelp
So finally went to check this new place out on 7th street after waiting for the initial hype to die down. Went for lunch around 12:30 on a Tuesday and easily Walked in and picked a table, it was chilly and windy that day and they had all the bay windows open all the doors open and it was just cold. The girl serving us seemed like the only waitress there however she did so in a timely manner, I ordered the California Burrito and it was good, I also ordered one of their margaritas I can't remember which one. My friend ordered a torta with al pastor and it came with parmesan garlic fries, it was a large size torta and he said it was pretty good. The margarita i ordered cost $10 and was very small although tasty definitely not worth the price at that size, tried to order Modelo and they don't have it on tap or in a bottle? Only a 16 oz can and charge $7 for it which is weird considering this is supposed to be a Mexican place. Then I wanted to order two shots of Cazadores Reposado and the waitress came back and told me they don't have the reposado, if you're going to featuring a large list of Tequilas you should probably have them all available, so anyways I ordered the Cazadores Blanco instead and when I got the bill I realized they charge $8 a shot for Cazadores Blanco! That is Patron prices and expensive 7th Street or not, after reading some of the other reviews here I also am put off to hear that they think they can charge a $20 cover to get in there LOL that's ridiculous. I just don't see the point of going to this place when there are so many better bars on 7th that don't do shady stuff like that and don't overcharge so much, I'd say you're not missing much by skipping this place
