On the Grid : El Cid

"When you walk into El Cid, you will feel how traditional and modern concepts are blended both by taste and sight. El Cid is a warm and welcoming, fun experience. From the spicy/sweet savory dishes to the cozy décor, El Cid captures the best of Mexico with a modern Chicago flare. El Cid's outdoor patio is a great place to sit with friends and enjoy a Margarita or Mojito during the warm summer days and in the winter, you can cozy up to our fireplace in the upstairs lounge. You'll love our food because everything is prepared fresh daily and all for an excellent price." - Bright Bright Great

Where To Go When You Don’t Want To Make A Big Deal About Your Birthday, But You Actually Kinda Do

"Complex salsas, handmade tortillas, and excellent palomas are just a few reasons why Con Todo will inspire you to abandon your annual true crime documentary/at-home pedicure birthday celebration. This casual Mexican restaurant in Logan Square is easy to walk in, but the large, bright, pastel-colored space is always busy enough to still feel fun. Con Todo has lots of tables good for small groups, a long cocktail list with great drinks under $12, and a menu of delicious small plates, tortas, tacos, and entrees like enchiladas or chile relleno. Plus, those murders will (probably) still be unsolved when you get home, so you’ll have time to crack the case." - adrian kane

Step into flavor heaven, because these Mexican tacos and that crunchy, golden sope shot me straight to the peak of authentic Mexican culture—¡olé! The service? Overflowing like a well-loved cup—refilling water with a smile and serving street-style charm that could go toe-to-toe with any taco truck in Tulum. But let me tell you what really hit me in the heart: my Momma been coming here for over 30 years, and one of the owners still remembered her. That’s not just customer service—that’s culinary legacy. That’s love on a plate. Now, the tacos? Flavor bombs wrapped in fresh tortillas—bold, savory, unforgettable. And the sope? Crispy on the outside, hearty on the inside. That crunch caught me off guard—in the best way. Gave the whole dish a texture remix that totally worked. And can we talk about the chips and salsa? Free. Fresh. Fabulous. In a world where they’re charging for air, that’s a classic touch that earns forever fans. I'll be back—probably with Momma in tow. This place doesn’t just serve food… it serves memories.

Great food, amazing atmosphere and very welcoming staff. I recommend trying the QuesaBirria it’s fantastic. Margs are strong which is always a good thing.

I found this place just by walking and using google for good places in the area as I was leaving the Sunday market in Logan square. It was deathly hot out. So food and something cold to drink to the rescue. Nancy was nice and very patient and helped me to pick some great options to eat. Hands down the cheese and cactus tamal was my favorite. I suggest everybody try it. I could’ve eaten like 5 of those. The salsa was good. I like spicy so it was on point. I would not mind a little more spicy but I understand provided for the masses is important. I also got the chicken chimichanga and side of rice. I loved that the chicken in the chimichanga was well seasoned. That’s important. Rice was moist and flavorful. Check out my photos below! Patio was nice. Tables come with umbrella or there are some that are shaded with trees. Either way it’s nice on the back patio. Some flies around but I think that’s warranted when you’re outside eating. Maybe the owner could spray every now and then to keep them away. But they weren’t too bothersome. I definitely enjoyed my meal and overall experience.

Google
Stopped by for lunch on a Monday and had three tacos (steak, Al pastor, and carnitas) with a Mexican Coke. The service was fast, the food was delicious, and the salsas were great. The carnitas taco was my favorite of the 3. I sat on the front patio in the sun and there was little street noise, it was quite pleasant. The Logan blue line station is right out front and makes getting there super easy. Highly recommend for a casual spot alone or with friends.

The atmosphere is the way to go. I only wish yhe food was as good as the that. The waitress was surely nice but could've been a little bit more helpful with questions. All the food was greasy. I don't even understand why. All. Of. It. It's like they put oil in everything to stretch it? You could taste it. We didn't finish it or take it home. The margaritas were good. It's pre-mixed, I believe they order it. So there's really no making it different. They pack a punch! The guac was so bland and overpriced. Ridiculous. We had to add salt, I don't think it was seasoned at all. Overall, it's cute. Family friendly, good for any occasion. Won't be returning though.

Google
I remember the fish tacos being good here years ago, but the other day they were not it.

Google
All of the food was excellent, we got the chicken flautas and enchiladas suizas. Even the salsas were good, served with fresh fried tortilla chips. Besides great food, the staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was really nice. There's also a hidden outdoor patio in the back.

Google
Wish the tacos were hard shell. Great location on Kedzie across from Logan Square Blue Line. Great service. There’s a beautiful outdoor patio but it was not accessible due to the rain.

Yelp
Ended up at this restaurant after walking down Milwaukee. This spot is right off of Kedzie near Azucar and the Logan Square Liquors. Our server was Blanca and she was really good at serving our table. We sat on the back patio which is pet friendly. On this occasion it was not busy at all. The music was flowing and playing some tunes. For food we ordered Flautas and 3 tacos dinner. We enjoyed our food. Everything was flavorful. I would definitely get the tacos again. Upon returning I want to try the fajitas. For drinks we both got margaritas. The Mango Margarita was our favorite.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in the patio you're greeted with lively Cuban music. Colorful flags strung on top, muraled walls and exposed brick. You get complimentary pickled veggies, chips and sweet excellent salsa. You can't go wrong with the lime margarita. We also had the mango with tahin, we also like. Juan curated the meal for us. Pork stew with green sauce(Guisado Puerco) and chicken fajitas. Both were excellent but special mention goes to the pork. Look the vibe here is just fun, the space has character and the food is good. Juan the proprietor is passionate about is offerings and rightly so! Recommended

Yelp
About a 2-2.5: One of my favorite eats is the chimichanga, so when I had read from various forums that El Cid is the go-to place, I was excited to check them out. Located in the Logan Square area, they offer brunch, a main menu with apps, soups & salads, sandwiches, Mexican favorites, and house specialties, sides, and a drink menu. I ordered the Burrito a la Chimichanga - you can choose your protein, which I went for the skirt steak; this was filled with beans and cheese, and I opted out of the lettuce and tomatoes, which I requested to be served on the side. I also requested the chimichanga to be 'suizo', which meant that it would be covered with 'melted cheese'. Unfortunately, the chimichanga itself was just okay; I thought it was more on the bland side, and the 'melted cheese', which was super generous, didn't help and, I think, was a bad call on my part - it was just way too much, even for me, and I had to just slide most of it off. The portions are generous and can easily be shared or be split into 2 meals. I did enjoy their red hot sauces, as they had a nice kick and made the chimichanga a bit better. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself was cute, cozy, and well-decorated. Parking is pretty difficult, as it's by a busy intersection, and there's restricted permit parking in the neighborhood; there's also construction going on, so the usual metered parking is also pretty limited. +don't get your item 'suizo' +friendly staff +difficult parking in the area

Yelp
We came here for drinks this Sunday and had a blast! They have a seating area out front, one inside and one outback and are incredibly dog friendly which we loved !! They are even hosting a dog pool party which we will be attending!! The Margs are strong and good ! We got two pina coladas and two margs large size and that ran us about $66 dollars total Which seemed fair for the amount of drink we were having! They are definitely worth the money each because we both left a little lit! Great spot to people watch! And the salsa verde they give you when you sit down is delicious!!! Will be back !!'

Yelp
This is an amazing restaurant. It is a hidden gem in Logan Square. The frozen margaritas are delicious. Blanca made sure that we were taken care of. She suggested her favorite meal. I got the taco plate, with pollo, pork and fish. All are recommended. If you find yourself in Logan Square, head to this place. Make sure to sit on the patio - it's a must visit . Such a good environment

Yelp
Great Mexican food with fresh ingredients. Highly recommend the Nachos. Attentive and responsive service with a cute back courtyard dining area.

Yelp
amazing spot for a quick bite and drinks. Stopped by for some tacos and margaritas. The staff and customer service was amazing. The owner Juan is very personable and inviting. he has cultivated a space of a great mix between Cuban and Mexican cultures. If you are in the mood for some nice drinks and an authentic restaurant to have great conversations and I highly recommend

Yelp
We popped into the Logan location after an artisan before xmas. Despite being an early dinner crowd "5-ish?" we were greeted immediately with "Hola!" and seated immediately. The chips provided were average, so was the salsa and the salsa verde. I ordered a Paloma, my wife a negra modelo, and my daughter a margarita. My wife and daughter decided to split fajitas, I opted for one of the house specialties, guisado de puerco. It was a new choice for me, never had it before, but I knew that I liked all the ingredients. A rich tomatillo based stew loaded with chunks of savory pork and potatoes, served with corn tortillas, my preference. It was a terrific choice, very flavorful, tasty, and fulfilling. I would definitely order it again. We were surprised at how much we ended up spending, but that is pretty much the new bizarre norm these days "the rent is too d*mn high!" Lol

Rich H.

Yelp
The margaritas were excellent. The staff was friendly. Those are the only 2 positive things unfortunately I can say. The service was lousy - The food was bland and uninspired. I've never had a burrito that was tasteless and the melted cheese (suiz) was already congealed when the dish was brought to our table. My folks ordered chicken Fajitas and the veggies were overcooked - the chicken was also tasteless and overcooked. Again - the people there were very friendly if not a little absent and the margaritas were great. It was a quick easy Sunday dinner to meet my folks halfway between them and me...but I will not be back nor could I reccommend this place to anyonerecommend but

Yelp
Not sure what happened to this place. Food & drink is decent for the price but the service is trash. If you come here on a Saturday, don't expect to see your server more than once every 70+ minutes.

Yelp
El Cid2 has a wonderful space with 3 dining areas right off of Kednzie and Milwaukee with a front patio view of Logan Square if you sit outside in front of the restaurant. The backyard patio is my favorite. Travel down a hall that tells you welcome to Mexico. Color flags bright colors and wonderful lights make up the back patio space. The drinks are good a bit pricey. The food is typical more of an american mexican flare. The queso fundido with ground beef is my favorite. The ground beef is seasoned more like chorizo and has a great red glossy hue from the spices. Come for some drinks food and atmosphere. It's a great place

Darlene M.

Yelp
I ordered two containers of Pico de Gallo that were supposed to be 22oz each and instead received 16oz containers but I was charged $27.00 the price for the larger containers. Not good!
google avatar

Yelp
With so many good Mexican restaurants in the city, don't waste your time or money by going here. Solid margaritas and salsa but the positives stop there. Food was flavorless and the highly promoted back patio was way over hyped. The worst thing was that it just didn't taste fresh. Of the five items on my plate, only one came out hot. As we left, we all unanimously thought it was anywhere from sub par to two stars to I hope I don't get sick.

Yelp
This place have tacos as well. Their steak tacos are good but I would definitely recommend their al pastor and carnita tacos. I also tried their caldo de res (beef soup) which was delicious.

Yelp
Finally a warm day in Chicago and my friends and I were searching for a happy hour spot to have some fun! We decided on el Cid because of their $2 tacos! The tacos were good, just typical tacos, also on the smaller side, so if you are feeling hungry I'd recommend 4-5 tacos. I personally liked the steak tacos most. The carnitas was just ok! It also came with complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsas were tasty! I liked the back patio too which was so cute, so definitely recommend this spot if you want some tacos and a cute back patio to hang out on.

Yelp
Just ordered over $60.00 on Grubhub. Got soggy nachos with too many tomato's & onions. Fried burrito with skirt steak and the steak was not edible mostly grizzle over cooked dry meat. Very disappointed. Taco Bell is better ! I try to help the little mom and pop shops and I spend all this money for a meal that was hardly edible

Melissa E.

Yelp
Great food, drinks, and customer service! Our server Eduardo gave us great recommendations and was super attentive.

Yelp
Had wanted to try this place for a while given I've heard it's a Logan Square staple. Chips and tortillas are store bought, salsa was the consistency of water. House margs are made with sweet & sour mix at 14$ a piece for a large. Overall unimpressive. Steak that came with my tampiqueña was fine enough, set me back 30$ though. I'm guessing it was the manager/owner who was vocally snapping at the seemingly overworked wait staff to hurry up in front of patrons. Bad food, okay service, but got weird vibes from the place. It's got the patio and proximity to the square going for it. Too much good Mexican food in the city and immediate area to spend time or money at this spot however.
google avatar

Donald M.

Yelp
I have heard of El Cid before, and figured the food must be good. I have to say for all I've heard it didn't live up to the mystique. Now, don't get me wrong, I was still happy to have some Mexican food, but it could be better. My torta was tasty, but kinda squished. I've seen less squished tortas in a take out order. Then the salsa had no kick to it all. I had to ask for some spicy stuff. What they brought out was delicious and nice and spicy. However, the guacamole was really good. No issues there. It's really nicely decorated especially for a small restaurant. Especially, the bar. That keeps it from being a 3 star.

Krystal D.

Yelp
ATTENTION!......ALL AFRICAN-AMERICANS AND BLACK FOLKS DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE!!!... The service was absolutely horrible. Me and my friend came in to dine and we waited an hour before we even got water. Even my friend who has been in the food service industry was upset. It took her getting up and saying something to the manager for them to even come to our table. When somebody finally did come to our table the waitress addressed my caucasian counterpart and complimented her outfit and asked if there was anything else they could do and did not address the table as a whole and disregarded me as if I wasn't even there. In addition to that, for this inconvenience all we were offered was free guac and still had to wait another hour just to get tacos. After eating, the service did not get any better for we had to alert them once again just to pay. This is not the first time this establishment has been accused of racist service. Please black folks go to another Mexican restaurant that treats us like people because this ain't it. They only want to impress non-black folks. So please go somewhere you are welcomed and feel valued because it's not here. And the food was very okay I've had way better. El Cid all I have to say is that you need to do better as a minority organization.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Finally tried the food and it was AMAZING!!! Steak tacos, rice and beans were on point! Friend had the chicken enchiladas and those were fantastic too! Definitely recommend.

Tierra D.

Yelp
****ANOTHER RACIST ESTABLISHMENT **** I'm only giving this place one star because 0 stars is never a option unfortunately. I come in and the old lady who runs the front counter and answers the phone, immediately asks, "to go?", I told her to give me a second and can I please see a menu. As I'm looking at the menu, she interrupts and asks once more, "to go?" I then responded with, "did I say to go?"... she then went silent; she didn't even attempt to ask if I wanted to dine in or seat me or even give me time to look at the menu. Once I decided to dine in another guy who's not browned-skinned comes in after me, she immediately just greets him. She does NOT keep subtlety attempting to force him to take his order to go but allows him to take the time to respond after she greeted him. I call the waitress who was working tonight( 4/10/22) over to inform her of this incident and she says to me "that's her attitude, I am sorry about that. I, myself treat everyone equally", basically confirming that's the kind of establishment this is, and that lady does in fact show discrimination toward guests. At that point the waitress is cleaning my table without permission pretty much RUSHING me out of there basically as if I'm not welcomed as 2 other people over to the right of me who were also not browned skinned like the guy who came in after me, were eating comfortably at their own pace, with no one rushing over to clean their tables without confirmation that they were finished, but letting them enjoy their dinner. I am REPULSED. Clearly black people are not welcomed here-- smfh. When is it going to end?? I ADVISE YOU TO NOT SPEND A DIME HERE. THANK ME LATER! Edit: THEY HAVE RESPONDED TO EVERY REVIEW ON GOOGLE POLITELY AND RESPONDED TO MINE DISGRACEFULLY and with SARCASM. Point proven. Disgusting.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
There are... so many reviews of 3-4 stars of this place that are annoying. No pineapple on the al pastor?? Mama you cooooook the al pastor with pineapple. It's mixed right in and cooked up. I'm here to say that this place is a gd gem. Great deals on pitchers? Hell yes. Delicious nachos, perfect tacos, generous and tasty plates... so many great things. The patio is perfect for the covidy times when you want a little space and you also want to feel like you're on vacation. The service is great. Highly recommend the sangria, btw, it's perfect and flavorful without being too sweet. By the way, you can get the margs to go. What's not to love?
google avatar

Kristy F.

Yelp
The food was amazing, service was very quick, and there was live music. Everything was super good!!!
google avatar

Quiana G.

Yelp
This is hands down one of my favorite places for Mexican food in Chicagoland. They have had articles written and have been on the news about their world class mango margaritas. The food is so tasty, the staff is nice, and they have tons of fun deals like Sangria days, $1 off tacos for Taco Tuesdays and more. They also have added more patio space to eat outside. Logan Square is lucky to have this place!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
I've been getting tacos here 20 years! How have I overlooked writing a review for them? El Cid is a Logan Square institution, after all. Such oversight, much shame. For skirt steak tacos in Logan Square, you must stop here, as they are superb. Cilantro and onions only! The steak burrito is similarly good - get it with mole sauce, it is rich and full of earthy flavor. I also recommend getting the Pico de Gallo with your nachos. Its delicious! The margaritas and daiquiris are solid. The upstairs has a chill lounge, and the patio in the back is a lovely urban escape for summertime hangs.

B R.

Yelp
Overpriced for what you get... the drinks and tacos are too expensive and they weren't even that good, mine arrived barely a tad warm and the $18 ripoff margarita was mostly ice and margarita mix. The meat was flavored nicely, too bad the tortilla was tough (borderline stale texture) and meat was room temp. They also need better salsas. Oh yeah! Almost forgot, it took four times of me asking the waitress for my soda, before she finally remembered to bring it .... 45 mins later. I left feeling disappointed, ripped off, still hungry and thirsty. Would have kept ordering but didn't want more "meh" food.
google avatar

Dayanna B.

Yelp
To start off I ordered the beef empanadas for my husband and I, they were greasy and tasted like a cheap pizza puff that I ate when I was a child in public school. I ordered the quesadilla dinner and my husband ordered the steak burrito. He loved the steak burrito and I liked my dinner minus the fact that they fry the quesadillas (3) like a fried flautas versus a heated tortilla on a side fold...again too much grease! It was dripping off the plate when you picked it up. When you tried to bit into them they were so hard, along with the fillings. The refried beans, rice and side salad were ok. The waitress, was in a bad mood, rude, couldn't get her attention on several occasions and didn't check on our table?? The back patio I would say is "cute". Overall I know the south side of Chicago has much better Mexican cuisine!
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
This place is my absolute favorite Mexican spot!. They have the best chicken tacos, piña coladas, patio, and service in the city of Chicago. Although I don't frequent the place as often because of inflation costs, I still try to come out every so often. I recommend coming on Tuesday's for their taco Tuesday special.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
Great food, cool patio vibes 10/10 would recommend on a sunny day, most of the seating is patio / outdoor
google avatar

Maricar T.

Yelp
Probably one of the few places I've stumbled upon (during these trying times) where the service was top notch. They gave water promptly and made sure everyone at the table was being taken care of throughout the meal. There's front outdoor patio seating, few indoor seating options, and a back patio outdoor seating option - the back patio has heat lamps which is awesome! Their cheese and cactus tamal had the right amount of flavor in it - not too strong nor too weak. I HAD to get a side of their sweet plantains. Not too mushy which is always a plus. Good amount of crisp on the outside. I dipped the plantains in hot sauce because I enjoy the balance of both sweet and spicy. No doubt would I get the plantains again the next time I'm here/order takeout. I also got one of their grilled veggie tacos and it was tasty. Their horchata is pretty delicious too. Give this place a try if you're in the Logan Square area or if you're debating what to get for takeout/delivery next.
google avatar

Salena C.

Yelp
Stumbled across El Cid 2 after many other brunch spots in the area quoted an hour+ wait. They have a few brunch-y options, and had zero wait time, so we figured we should venture out. Service was personable and sweet. Even as the restaurant started to get really crowded, we didn't feel rushed in the least bit. I went with the breakfast burrito, which had eggs, rice, beans, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes all packed nicely into a perfectly toasted tortilla. Super simple, but delicious and filling. My friends also ordered margaritas and enjoyed them, though they were definitely on the smaller side. Absolutely nothing at all to complain about. Some items are on the pricey side, but if you pick and choose wisely you'll walk away with a cheap-ish bill. It's not extraordinary by any means, but it's simple and quick when you need it! Plus lots of good vegetarian options!
google avatar

Amiel R.

Yelp
El Cid has consistently great food at decent prices. Good location and hours too! You've got to get the flan...
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Fantastic service and excellent food! The owner could not be more warm, gracious, and thoughtful. Take your date or take your family for a wonderful meal.

Rose C.

Yelp
The chicken burrito was great! The patio is very cute & our server, Eden, was the BEST!

Yelp
I have lived in the neighborhood for a long time and so I'd like to support this business that has also been here for a long time. I find the food generally consistent and the quality good. I can tell because I don't feel sick after I eat it and I have a sensitive stomach. My main issue with them is the STYROFOAM. I just got carry out burrito and empanadas and both of them had paper around them anyway inside container and now I'm left with two more pieces of Styrofoam to try and recycle. It makes me cringe every time:( I might order more if this was not the situation. I wish they would just use foil that I can recycle and ditch the Styrofoam. It's just too much. Let's face it--we all need to shift our behavior in my opinion. Hey even better think about switching to compostable cardboard but burritos and empanadas would be fine in a paper bag and then I can compost them. Otherwise love you guys!
google avatar

Kellye B.

Yelp
Love, love, love!!! I haven't had a better pico anywhere ever! Oh and I have visited Mexico and the best of the best for Mexican restaurants in the Chicago land area. I had 2 el pastor tacos with onion cilantro and Pico de gallo on top. I couldn't resist ordering 2 more. The sweetness of the pico is perfectly balanced by just a enough heat to make you beg for more. I see no reason to go anywhere else for tacos
google avatar

Ian C.

Yelp
Let me start with the only bad thing, and that was our unattentive waiter. We saw him when he took our order, brought our food, and brought our bill. No checking in and never saw him checking his other tables. Now on to the great... The location is perfect and it is impossible to miss. It is RIGHT across from the Logan Square CTA and a couple doors down from Longman & Eagle. The food here was great and the prices are unbeatable. The quality of the food and the quanity are great. Fresh ingredients and the food was served hot and promptly. They also serve you free chips and salsa when you sit down, which is a nice little touch. The atmosphere is great too. Fun and light atmosphere with a nice upstairs dining and bar area. I just moved to Logan Square, but have heard they have a great summer patio area. Will definitely come back again soon, for this nice, good, and affordable Mexican gem in Logan Square.
google avatar

Yvonne I.

Yelp
El Cid is in a great location near a lot of cute shops and the CTA Blue line. Overall, I think this place deserves a solid 4 out of 5 rating, because I think it has some good standard menu options at a reasonable price. The inside on the first floor isn't that large, but there is plenty of outdoor seating during the warmer times of the year. The beer list is relatively limited, but they offer several kinds of tequila you can add to your margarita or cocktail. The margarita was satisfactory, but it didn't leave a huge impression on me. I only did a basic margarita though, and would upgrade the tequila next time for the margarita. I thought that the salsa here was pretty tasty and had the right amount of spice to it. The enchiladas suizas had a balanced flavor. I would rate this dish a 7 out of 10 in comparison to other enchiladas suizas I've had at other restaurants. Something was missing, but I couldn't put my finger on what exactly. The service at this restaurant was pretty quick and they also offer a take out option if you prefer to enjoy your food at home.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
Cheap drinks & mexican food at this local spot! 2 story restaurant with a bar upstairs ---complimentary salsa & chips: nothing special but I like the spicy green chili ---large tamarindo margarita: only $9.75 and you can get it blended or on the rocks. A bit syrupy but if you like mexican candies this is the drink for you If I lived in the area I would come back for their cheap tacos and quesadillas!

Madeline S.

Yelp
Food is delish, margaritas are fab, staff and owners are fun! Always a good time! No disappointments on my end.
google avatar

Colleen C.

Yelp
good place to start a night out in the summer. cute patio, strong drinks. slightly overpriced and the service is meh, but the food is very good. wish they had a spicy margarita on the menu.

Linda S.

Yelp
I liked it! My experience was a little different in that my friend hosted her birthday dinner at El Cid, so all of the food was preordered. As I sat there, the servers kept bringing different kinds of tacos and pitchers of margaritas. It was awesome. The fish tacos were especially good, but I enjoyed the steak, chicken and carnitas as well. The cheese quesadillas were tasty too and don't let me forgot to mention the best guacamole I've had this year. Of the margaritas, strawberry was the best for me, though it had a little too much sugar. Everyone who worked there was pleasant. We were seated outside in the back, and the staff jumped right in to help us carry stuff upstairs when it started raining. I'm not in Logan Square that often, but I would definitely stop by again when I am.

Yelp
If I could give El Cid less than one star I would. My significant other and I were looking for a place to have margaritas at for CInco De Mayo and decided on El Cid. We were able to get a table right away but our server had only given us dinner menus. It took her between 6-10 minutes to come back around to see what we would like, at which point I expressed that she had never given us a drink menu. After five minutes she comes back around to ask us what we would like to drink, we both gave her our choices but she never asked what size we wanted and only assumed we wanted a large. We were unsure of their sizes and we were never told how many fluid ounces a small or large margarita was. My partner ordered their house margarita while I ordered a strawberry margarita. Our server never asked me if I wanted my margarita on the rocks or frozen, yet she gave me a frozen Margarita. Personally not a fan of frozen margaritas. We decided to get an appetizer (steak nachos) which took fairly long to come out for an appetizer. We requested extra napkins which we never got. Finally we asked for our check which was the fastest item delivered to our table the entire time we had been there. We waited so long for her to come back and pick up the check. The only reason our check was even picked up was because the owner noticed an older white couple waiting on a table so he quickly snatched our check off the table and our server brought it back to us. I would also like to mention how rude the owner was about the young women he hired to play live music. As he walked past our table he said out loud, "next time I am going with the male mariachi".

Yelp
And my friends keep wondering why I like Logan Square so much. It's not just because I live there, but the restaurants mean I don't have to go to Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Lakeview, and Near North. Chips and salsa. Margarita. Vegetarian chimichangas. Tamale. Margarita. Salmon with arroz and frijoles. Flan. Food comatose. Although the chips and salsa were complimentary, the tomatillo salsa and the pica de gallo surprised me. The tomatillo salsa had a nice bite to it and I think the pica de gallo had a bit of mole in it. If you've had a mole sauce on meat at Latin America restaurants, you've probably wanted a smoke afterwards. Love the vegetarian chimichangas, stuffed with rice, tomatoes, onions, and cheese. The fresh guacamole that came with it was a highlight. The tamale was fantastic. The red salsa that came with it had to have been made with habanero sauce. It was hot. The plate of salmon with arroz and frijoles was a true winner. Glad I ordered this instead of the usual enchiladas or tacos. And then there was the coconut flan, smooth as butter, and tasty as bliss. Had me speaking Spanish, and I don't mean butchering the language. Oh, I mentioned margarita three times above. Yep, I had three of them.

Yelp
If a place could get 0 stars this would be it. Do not come here! We were seated at 8pm on a Saturday night, we ordered our food. At 803 pm. Our group of girls was talking chatting wondering where the water refills were, trying to flag someone down to order drinks and get water. No one came by, when I say no one I'm not exaggerating we couldn't even get the bus boy. Around 8:50 pm we finally got the attention of a bus boy to get water, and inquiring about the meal. He clearly didn't no an answer left then came back when I asked for more chips since we had been sitting an hour he said it he $2.00 so I asked for our waitress instead. At that point the second time seeing the waitress in the night they brought out our cold food. We asked for the manager who then some 15 year old host came and argued with us literally stating "it's crowded no one else complained" we tried to explain that we didn't even complain about the wait for the food until 5 min ago and we are complain bc our food was served cold. We are not eating cold food that is not sanitary and I'm not trying to get food poisoning. It is literally a state law that "hot" food has to be served at a certain temp to be edible. The waitress was super apologetic and I understand she was completely overwhelmed, as there was a large birthday party. It was this host that really set us all over the edge do not tell me to "don't complain and eat your food" when it's cold from the kitchen. No, not okay. Finally I said "wait are you really the manager" to which he said no and went and got the manager. They came by the table and again argued then literally walked away! At this point we tried to get any sort of check so we could leave. Which took another 15 min. Do not come here, if you want food poison and some 15 year old kid yelling at you than by all means enjoy.

Yelp
Not quite sure what the hype is. It's a v v average Mexican spot that happens to have a nice patio. Reasonably priced, but nothing special about their tacos or margaritas. The service left MUCH to be desired. Went around 7pm on Memorial Day and it was just moderately busy, yet nearly impossible to flag down a server. There was a snarky sign on the wall about lowering standards, so I guess we were warned.

Yelp
Really great Mexican food!! Came here with my fiance and his family and we had so much fun! The margs are SO GOOD - definitely up there for best marg I've had. Can never go wrong with ordering guac for the table. I ordered carnitas tacos with a side of rice and black beans and was so happy. We were all so stuffed after we left. The wait staff is so friendly and attentive making sure you have everything you need! But seriously...order the margs.

Yelp
El Cid is standard Chicagoan Mexican food with delicious salsa (though never enough) right in Logan Square. The customer service was attentive and restaurant very clean. Prices are average at this location. The al pastor was juicy and flavorful. The carne asada was good but could have been slightly less dry. Everything arrived in decent time and with cordial hospitality. Nothing radiating but definitely better than average. A good option for lunch time with friendly service and great salsa. (3.5 stars)
