This food is great! Got a plate of carnitas and chile verde with extra habanero and it did not disappoint. I have a very high tolerance for spicy foods and I told them I wanted it to be extra spicy. The chili verde was not only very spicy but the meat itself was so good. I am sweating while typing this review. When I heard the blender in the back, I knew it was them blending in peppers for me. I’ll probably never get it this spicy but trust me I will finish my plate 🤣. The carnitas are cooked to perfection. No complaints at all. I will be back and thank you again for making my chili verde muy picante! (I’ll be sure to get it as is next time lol.) My only complaint is the rice and beans portions. I wish it was more but they did put a good amount of proteins on both plates nevertheless, that won’t stop me from being a regular.

This place has not changed in years, it’s a good hole in the wall Mexican food restaurant. The best thing about this location is that they hand make their tortillas. The menudo here, which is a Mexican stew, is one of the best in town. The chilaquiles here also amazing, the beans and rice they accompany the entree have that home made taste. I have never been disappointed with the food here, however the location has very few seats and parking can be tough to find. I see most people pick up their orders and take them home. It’s cash only, but they do accept credit cards.

Very authentic, not gringofied Mexican restaurant. Service is great. The server remembered the little details of adding ice to my drink my second time there. The food is absolutely delicious. I had Pozole both times I went, and I can’t wait to try another dish when I go again. The prices are local Neighbour prices

I came to Google to review this place and help them out, but I see they already have amazing reviews and rightfully so. I’ve been ordering caldo de Albondigas (meatball soup) to go for the last five years and it never disappoints. They give you all the fixings like cilantro, onion, limes, and handmade tortillas along with chips and salsa. I most recently ordered Chilaquiles Verdes as I did not want to pay $15 at el zarape (nearby) For the same proportion (eggs not included) and no sides. The Chilaquiles from El Comal come with eggs, a side of rice and beans, chips and salsa for $16. Worth it. The to-go packaging on this plate could use something more sturdy, but they could serve it on a sheet of aluminum foil and I would still eat it. It’s that good. The salsa is an enjoyable spicy yet flavorful. 10/10 would recommend

As I enter into my 6 month of pregnancy, my cravings remain the same...authentic Mexican food. El Comal is definitely just that! I ordered the chile verde combo & my partner got the chilaquiles. The complimentary chips & salsa hit the spot, and the salsa had the perfect amount of spice. The service was friendly and quick, and the overall vibe of the restaurant, although a "hole in the wall", was definitely comfy and homey. Excited to have found this spot to satisfy my cravings!

El Comal is a true hole in the wall spot serving authentic Mexican food. It's not quite as good as home cooked, but for a restaurant, it's as close as it gets. Good variety of Mexican favorites- I've had pretty much everything here and it's all good. On Weekends they serve menudo, pozole and birria- all have great flavor but I'd prefer a bit more spice. If you're coming for the pozole or menudo, get there early- they usually run out after 1pm. Service is friendly and consistent. With only six tables, there can be a wait during busy times but it's not so bad. They have great aguas frescas and the Classic Mexican Coke in a glass bottle. The chips and salsa are good but salsa options are limited. They offer take out but no delivery. Parking is limited, but there is a small lot and the parking is free. They are open daily from 8am to 8pm. Great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. El Comal is the spot if you're looking for authentic Mexican food in LA.

All the options feel like a home cooked meal. Nice hidden gem in East Hollywood. Feels like walking into a family members home as they just happened to be cooking

We were looking for some menudo and found this hidden gem on Yelp! Definitely found a great spot. The owner is very nice and told us to call ahead next time to make sure they have it and he'll put some aside. The flavors were authentic and delicious. It's a small place but feels like home. Tacos are delicious too

Ordered the chicken quesadilla and there were some bones inside. The cheese was barely melted and the chicken was cold inside. Overall very bland.

Rainy weather and was craving a caldo de res, and I am so glad I came here. Super friendly staff, fast service, and the food was amazing. Fresh hand made tortillas hit the spot with my caldo. Nice little hole in the wall spot.

the service is not that good. they always run out of everything and they over charge for everything we order some chile relleno (alacart) and order of tortillas $1.00 per tortilla so always ask prices b-4 you order $28 total for 2 chilles and tortillas. over payed, the 3 stars is for the food taste great.

The service was nice. Actually, while we were struggling to figure out if we were in the right parking lot, an employee of the restaurant who was starting their shift, confirmed in smiling gesture that we had come to the right place and that we could park right in front. We shared a very delicious birria and freshly made tortillas. Everyone in the restaurant was enjoying the food and it was clearly an authentic place.

WOW! this place is delicious! I'm Mexican so I'm pretty picky when it comes to authenticity of Mexican food and this taste exactly like the food back home in Mexico! You can tell this food is made with love and soul with passed down recipes. Even the agua frescas were so natural and delicious! 5 stars ! Last thing, these portions are actually huge, definitely worth the money

5 Stars again! They accept card now :) The location is small but the quality does not shrink, it doesn't fall short of anything amazing. I ordered a plain bean, rice and cheese burrito with sour cream: it was so delicious. I love their salsas. Very good stuff. The staff is very helpful, they maintain it clean. Theres parking out in the parking lot. This place doesn't disappoint!! The quality is worthwhile. I also had some fresh chips and salsa, even that was really good!! Authentic Mexican food for sure. I am so thankful this place, its such a great option as there are other Mexican food around, this is unique in its own way. Can't wait to come back :))

I just ate the BEST sopes I have had maybe ever. They took me back to Mexico, specifically a Mexican restaurant in Ensenada I used to frequent as a kid called "El Nayarit." The sopes taste like grandma made them. I am a big foodie and this place is not lying when it says authentic Mexican food. The masa was crispy on the outside and the right amount of dense/soft on the inside. I had to ask the name of the cook - MARIANA. The cooks change, so call and ask if Mariana is working before you come in for the sopes. They were WOW. I couldn't stop saying how delicious they were. 5+++++ stars. This food experience had me seriously wondering if Mariana is open to catering services.

I ordered a chicken soup and it was not that good and I'm being generous. the broth did not tasted like chicken soup, 2 chicken legs a quarter of a potato, a piece of carrot and a small piece of another vegetable. It was $16.99 I would not recommend it. Parking was difficult it d in the almost corner of Western and Santa Monica I could not eat the soup, and I love chicken soups, but not from this place. Portion was small and tastes less , very disappointed. You need a real Mexican cook, if your selling Mexican food.

Had their pozole very good a lot of flavor. My aunt has their menudo. Very tasty as well. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area. The staff were very nice.

Y'all, you wouldn't even know The gold mine in here unless someone dragged you too the parking lot it's in. Well cooked menudo, great portions, tasty broth Chips and salsa - very solid. Our go-to place for weekend pozole and everything we have had here has been good! Tried albondigas soup today and it was perfect chilly weather soup with tasty broth and good meatballs, too! We have had asada sopes, torta and tacos and Al have been good. Very casual place with nice staff and great food--check out El Comal!

I went here for lunch and enjoyed a nice authentic Mexican plate of chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. It's located at a very small strip mall in Hollywood. I thought it was a great value meal for the quality and quantity of the food. I appreciate that unlike many places they actually top their enchiladas with que so fresco instead of American cheese. The service was excellent. Having spent time in Mexico this is definitely very authentic food. The only thing I wish was different was if the salsa had a little more spice to it but otherwise everything was great. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and want a reasonably priced good homemade Mexican meal.

The service and the food were both amazing. Very friendly and respectful. I would recommend trying the capirotada which is like a bread pudding. The salsas are delicious and spicy.

Recently moved to a neighborhood nearby and sadly there are not many authentic Mexican spots. One morning I was craving chilaquiles so I made my way here! The portions here are generous and prices very reasonable. Everything was delicious from the salsa on the chilaquiles to the spicy salsa on the side. Also, for being so small and unassuming, I noticed that there was a ton of people coming in to eat which was a great sign. Can't wait to try more!

Wow, wow, wow!! El Comal is one of THE BEST hole in the wall spots I've ever been to. I'm from San Diego and I was visiting my brother in LA for the weekend. We were looking for a place that would serve decent menudo and I stumbled upon this spot. The moment we arrived we noticed a Semana Santa special with capirotada and costillas con nopales, a true Mexican special that very rarely you find outside of Mexico. Not even in San Diego have I seen the specials El Comal had. Because of covid they're doing mainly take-out but we were able to find a small table outside. Our server was amazing, but the food definitely is the highlight. I ordered Costillas con nopales and my brother got their menudo. Both incredibly delicious. Homemade chips, homemade corn tortillas, rich flavors and a vast, GENUINE mexican menu that is hard to come by. This is not a taco shop, this is a genuine Cocina Mexicana spot. You want the real deal? go to El Comal. 10 out of 10!! Muchos saludos a todo el restaurante. La verdad que, qué delicia de comida y excelente servicio!!! Definitivamente regreso por más!!

First time here and was very impressed. The place is in a run down strip mall with tight parking and the outside of the restaurant made it look abandoned but once you open the screen door you'll see folks happily eating fresh, tasty plentiful meals. The menu is extensive and when we went around 12:30 it was not full so we sat down ( very cramped spaces but I'm not a small person). The service was fast and attentive. The two young men were not really English speakers but they tried and I spoke the Spanish I knew so it worked out fine! I ended up getting the chorizo and eggs- omg- well made, tasty eggs with creamy refried beans and soft rice- my favorite. To top it off the homemade corn tortillas were made to order and were piping hot! My good friend ordered the flautas and ate the whole plate of food in no time flat. The agua frescas were full of pineapple and refreshing. It was also very reasonably priced so we left happy, pleased and full!

Wow! You must try this place if you are in the area. We were passing through LA and looking for authentic Mexican food. This place is legit truly authentic. I am very picky and always on the hunt for good enchiladas with homemade sauce. Which usually I don't find, I really haven't find any that compare to my own homemade sauce. I think this sauce is better than my own. This is definitely the spot if you are looking for some truly authentic red sauce enchiladas. The sauce was so good I had to ask for a side order of it. My husband had the menudo and he said the flavor was amazing. We also had the agua de pina, definitely homemade not that stuff you get from a fountain drink. It was very refreshing not too sweet. I recommend trying this place, you won't be disappointed.

Literally the best Mexican food in LA and pretty good service. I discovered them because they were the only restaurant open on Christmas Day close to me, turns out I live 5 min away from here. It's super low key building but always busy so that should tell you something.

I think it's entirely possible that I ordered the wrong thing, and that if I'd ordered something else, I'd have had a great experience instead of just an OK one. The server was quite friendly, and having never been here before and not knowing what their specialties were, I asked him for recommendations. He recommend a steak dish, a chicken dish and a couple of soups. I was most in the mood for the chicken--in this case, Pechuga Empanizada Breaded Chicken Breast. It came with rice, beans, tortillas and a salad. There were also chips and salsa. I enjoyed the chips and salsa (which wasn't particularly spicy), but the main dish was just OK. The chicken was pounded thin and breaded, almost like a Mexican Milanese, but there wasn't much in the way of flavor, and the chicken was a little on the dry side (it's easy to overcook something that thin). The rice and beans were fine, and the tortilla seemed nicely made. The salad was some undressed iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomato and some radishes. Maybe that was the point, but it didn't add much to the dish. A few slices of avocado mingled with everything else. I tried squirting the accompanying lime on the chicken (it wasn't an especially juicy lime), and copiously added salsa. However, ultimately it was filling but not flavorful. I really wanted to like this meal more, and again, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. FYI, cash only.

This is too "authentic" for me, The taste was on point, really delicious. but I really don't like chopped bones in my pozole soup. Make sure if you order to go, to tell them NOT to throw a huge bone in that takes up half of the container. All 3 containers had a massive bone to take up space, feels a little deceiving.

Food was soooooo good! Flavorful! I ordered the chicken sope, and beef caldo. Chefs kiss! Soup soooo good beef so tender. I sat in and ate, my bill was less than 30.00 with a sprite plus 20% tip. Hole in the wall but sooooo gooood! So happy I found this place! The male server was patient and his customer serviced passed with me lol!

The food is fantastic. I've had the Menudo, pozoles, and cocido, and breakfast dishes. All delicious and they took the time to take out fat from the broths. I know this because each time I've taken leftovers home because the portions are large, I've put in the fridge. When I take it out to reheat to eat, there is no hardened fat on top. That makes the soup all flavor and very clean. Delicious all around. They lost a star because the place is small and there is no ambiance, but I would still come back for the food!

Antes este lugar era uno de mis favoritos la última vez qe estuve ahí ordené Carme en salsa roja la carne estaba súper durísima y un sabor fatal..... Y ahora dije voy a tratar la birria y para mi mala suerte salió pésima nada de sabor las tortillas todas quemadas y la salsa ni se dije pésima realmente no recomiendo este lugar cambian de cocinero a cada rato .....

For sure, it can be a struggle to park here but the food is yummy. They have fresh fruit waters such as aqua de piña and agua de melón. The handmade tortillas make the tacos bien sabrosos (super tasty)! We ate inside, in the late afternoon, the service was fast, the salsa fantastic, and all with the peaceful ambiance of a true, Mexican-style taco stop. Check it out!

Best menudo and Pozole that I have found in LA They're traditional in that they only serve menudo on weekends but pozole. Make sure to get you a bowl next time you're hungover:)

My parents and I have brunch here sometimes, it's definitely the vibe for some cafecito the dishes give a homemade feel when you don't feel like eating out fast food or cooking, I'm glad I found this place the staff is welcoming and treat you like regulars once they begin to recognize you. I feel valued as a customer. Bring cash preferably! This is how they accept tips.

This is a great place to get some hot savory soup, delicious nachos and agua frescas like Jamaica. If you are a vegetarian and don't mind if your soup touched beef, you can get an all veggie soup that is very yummy. The nachos I have to take special note. They taste different from other nachos I have tried. They are lighter and maybe a tad sweeter? But they are delicious with a good crunch. The gentleman who helped me on the phone and in person was very nice and he is fluent in both English and Spanish. I read some reviews where there was difficulty in ordering due to a language barrier. The lot is a bit tight and shared with other businesses. It would be great if you live in the neighborhood and can walk or use other transpo then you can hang out and enjoy your food. Otherwise it may be grab and go.

We used to go here all the time when we lived near there. I had a urge for a torta but found out door dash doesn't deliver from them. Hope I'll be out there soon. The tortas were delicious.

Good was good menu was extremely confusing if you don't speak Spanish you may have an extremely hard time ordering your food. They were nice but we still couldn't understand each other and I was not served what I wanted. But if you speak Spanish you may have success

I checked the yelp page and saw they had some pretty good reviews, and this place does live up to the 5 star reviews that people leave. I got a beef burrito, which was kind of massive, but I saved it for lunch the next day. Great value for the amount of food you get in each serving. I speak Spanish, but if you don't, you might want to use a translate app to see the menu. Also got horchata and cantaloupe aguas frescas which were super good. Sometimes restaurants use the horchata powder mix to make their drinks, but this one tasted like it was made fresh. One thing though; the seating isn't ideal for pandemic times. It's a small restaurant so the tables are a little close together. Taking it to-go is a good option if you want to be on the safe side.

Food is really good, very authentic, prices and service is great. Definitely one of my favorite spots to eat real Mexican food.

Best Chilaquiles! So much flavor & very spicy! My husband is very picky with his chilaquiles & these now have to be his top 3 favorite. Food is very authentic & you can tell made with love.
