I think it's entirely possible that I ordered the wrong thing, and that if I'd ordered something else, I'd have had a great experience instead of just an OK one.
The server was quite friendly, and having never been here before and not knowing what their specialties were, I asked him for recommendations. He recommend a steak dish, a chicken dish and a couple of soups. I was most in the mood for the chicken--in this case, Pechuga Empanizada Breaded Chicken Breast. It came with rice, beans, tortillas and a salad. There were also chips and salsa.
I enjoyed the chips and salsa (which wasn't particularly spicy), but the main dish was just OK. The chicken was pounded thin and breaded, almost like a Mexican Milanese, but there wasn't much in the way of flavor, and the chicken was a little on the dry side (it's easy to overcook something that thin). The rice and beans were fine, and the tortilla seemed nicely made. The salad was some undressed iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomato and some radishes. Maybe that was the point, but it didn't add much to the dish. A few slices of avocado mingled with everything else. I tried squirting the accompanying lime on the chicken (it wasn't an especially juicy lime), and copiously added salsa. However, ultimately it was filling but not flavorful.
I really wanted to like this meal more, and again, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. FYI, cash only.
