Google
Tortillas appear homemade, very good! Salsa is good. Everything tastes fresh. Quality of meats is excellent. Good selection of beers.

Michelle R.

Google
Don't forget the burgers! Was recommended for the burgers and they were great. Had nachos as well. Excellent! We will go again.

Darlene G.

Google
Love this place! So Friendly! 3 different Salsas with great Chips. Very Clean! Awesome Music! Pleasant Atomsphere. It's not far from the Farmer's Market Park.

Taylor Frost Peyote R.

Google
Try the papa loka if they happen to be running that special. It's like a big steamed/baked potato with all the same stuff you'd see on carne asada fries. Insanely good 👍 The cashier was friendly and helpful with ordering, thanks for the hospitality!

Miguel G.

Google
What a bad experience I had today in this place, bad service and the food is not served at all well. I ordered 3 burritos 🌯 with meat and they gave me only beans and rice. I asked to speak to the manager and he never came out, he never turned his face

Xochitl G.

Google
We got food here to take to a winery in Paso area. I got a tongue or lengua burrito and my husband got a special wet burrito but substituted the meat for their carnitas. The carnitas were some of the best he's had in years. The salsas were good and my lengua burrito was great.

Robin C.

Google
This place has delicious food at a very reasonable price, and super helpful and patient folks guiding us through the menu :) The spice level can go up to 11 if you so wish, which was amazing! Definitely revisiting whenever we can #yum

Google
New owners are going to lose customers quickly. There were 2 of us and we were served a basket with 5 chips. The salsa tasted old and sour. The meat on tacos tasted old and was scarce. But looked huge with tons of lettuce on them. Food portions were very small. Not the greatest service. Oh and prices have risen. Not the marvelous place it used to be... Will not be returning.

Yelp
My husband and I had the baked potato with grilled chicken, cheese, cilantro, and fresh onion on it... pico de gallo on the side. Best potato we've ever eaten, hands down! WOW
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
They use to be great. Awesome salsa bar good halibut specials. Not any longer. I'm not sure what happened but they are on a downhill trajectory. Prices up. Good quality down. Stale tortillas. No salsa bar. Horrible imo

Yelp
I have yet to eat in the restaurant. But their food is amazing and the service I get while picking it up is above amazing. They get to know you personally if you visit enough. And check in how you're doing. They don't give you low portions and over charge you.
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly service, chips were quite tasty and the salsa it was was great. Small shop with plenty of seating. I had the chicken burrito compadre. Enjoyed the peppers and avocado, however, I felt the chicken was a little tough. When I return, I'll probably try a different meet. To be more accurate, I would probably give it 4 1/2 stars.

Yelp
It Good food, fast service, good music and 1st time experience.. they want me to put a minimum of 85 characters and idk what else to say lmaoo but the food was good

Yelp
Excellent El Compadre Burrito. A little bit more expensive than what we used to pay but thats how it is everywhere these days. Excellent service! I'll be back after another trip to the bounce house with the kids.

Yelp
Traveling to the Bay Area stopped in Atascadero for lunch. Ordered the El Compadre Burrito and Gordito lunch, both great. The burrito was very large with carne asade, rice, onion, green bell peppers. Service was excellent and staff friendly. Plenty of parking, close to the 101.
google avatar

Cassy S.

Yelp
Amazing food and always amazing service. We got the chimichanga with shredded beef and the San Dieguito burrito wet.
google avatar

Debi B.

Yelp
Great service, food was prepared fast. My husband and I will return because it is just around the corner from our home.
google avatar

Yelp
I received truly excellent service. I ordered the pastor burrito, which was quite large and very delicious. They have a Pepsi machine, and I am perfer l to Pepsi.

Chanel L.

Yelp
Stopped in with my mom yesterday. The service was friendly and wonderful. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We have been going here for years and its been been one of the better places in Atascadero...there is many many mediocre mex food places here... But the new owners have really got me excited! My fav the Fiesta Salad which has an amazing Citrus Basil dressing is so gorgeous and fresh and the food has gone from 3.5/4 to 5 in my book!!! I also like the cheese enchiladas platter and the black beans are simply divine!! Salsa is the best! The food seems very fresh and nothing is too salty here which is a for sure sign of over processed food to me. My husband likes the burritos here. Please try it again if you have not been in awhile! Thank you for elevating your food a whole notch and a 1/2 with beautiful fresh presentation and delicious details in the recipes. So yum that I have to ask them to hold the chips as they are so fresh that I will fill up on them instead of the meal I ordered if I am not careful... wink wink wink Please support your local restaurants folks and give this place a try and savor every bite of fresh and local and small biz eatery in Atascadero. They did raise their prices ... but hey you do pay for what you get! It's worth it to me to get the fresh prepared and healthier food choices. PLEASE keep up the good work neighbors and PLEASE know that you are appreciated!

Yelp
Portion, prices and location is great, but food authenticity is disappointing. I ordered the Comprade Burrito which was massive (I ended up eating half of it for lunch the next day) and we were able to walk to the taqueria from a different event we were at downtown. We got there right before closing so it was pretty quiet so I'm not sure how crowded it gets during normal dinner hours. You order at the register and then seat yourself, so that was all easy and we obviously got seats easily. The waitress was super friendly too! The disappointing piece was the actual food experience. It was exciting to see how big the burrito was, but the taste was very Americanized. I feel like a lot of taquerias in SLO county don't have enough flavor with their food. It makes me not want to eat Mexican food when I'm here and I wait to eat it when I'm in the Bay Area or SoCal.

Yelp
What happened?! This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in town, but last night seriously missed the mark. The salsa bar was not well stocked, found a fuzzy hair in the pico de Gallo and my fork had food remnants on it. The food came out quickly (we were one of two tables), but all of our food was cold to lukewarm. The tortillas used for the enchiladas were dry. The taco had only one corn tortilla supporting the weight of the meat cheese and lettuce. The food was bland and flavorless. I am not sure what happened since I was last here, but I do not plan on returning. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
So I got the carne asada fries my wife got them as well and my daughter got taco rice and beans from kids menu me and my wife were both even jealous of her meal but everything was amazing the staff were very friendly and very clean location.

Seth G.

Yelp
The food is great but the prices are outrageuous. My order is always the same and is around $25. They have now updated their menu and its costs $35 now. The food has not changed except for the interior of the restaurant and getting a liquor license so now us patrons must pay for this while the food is still the same. Most come for the food not the dine in experience because its so small and loud when only a couple people are inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Because our favorite mexican restaurant was closed for the week, we decided to try El Compadre for take-out. They use facebook as a reference for hours and the menu (which hasn't been updated price wise). The prices on the menu were close to Garcia's prices which is why we chose El Compadre. Over the phone we ordered 2 meat burritos (meat, rice, and beans) and guac & chips. The burritos were the driest burritos we've ever had although the meat to rice & bean ratio was good. The guac... had I known it was going to be a little side of guac (with the chips) I would have ordered two. Or had I known the guac was going to be literal mashed up avocado without salt/seasoning or lime, I wouldn't have ordered it. This place has good reviews so obviously they're doing something right, I just think we're spoiled at Garcia's; better value.

Susan M.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite authentic, Mexican food restaurant. Family owned. Try the El Compadre burrito mojado. Delicious always!
google avatar

Candice S.

Yelp
Two words: chicken chimichanga. I've had this delicious dish at other restaurants and it's always been greasy, too filling, not enough cheese or just something was off. Not here, they deliver. Always. I'm also a big fan of their green chile verde which is heaven sent. Filled with flavor and perfectly cooked meat. El Compadre has been a godsend in this pandemic as it's my most frequented Mexican restaurant to get takeout from. I'm never disappointed and always, always happy. I highly recommend not skipping over this gem.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered a Special Dinner pair of chicken tacos and La Enchilada Chida to go by phone. It was ready (in 20 minutes) right on time. My wife fully enjoyed her taco dinner and my Enchilada Chida continues to be my favorite enchilada of all time!
google avatar

Yelp
Although this restaurant is on the main strip of Atascadero, it seems more like a hole in the wall family owned operation. I ordered the two chicken flautas that came with a side of rice and beans. To go I ordered a bacon breakfast burrito. Since my order was to go they included a bag of chips and (4) green salsas. The only drawback to doing takeout with them was that they only had one staff member on at the time which slowed up orders between dine-in and take out. I'll likely order ahead next time. For the food I received, the flautas were filled with fresh moist chicken and cheese. Both were a little overcooked and burnt at the end, but the flavor of the flautas compensated for it. Unfortunately the staff didn't include the sour cream and guacamole as described either, but as I said the flavor was dynamite. The breakfast burrito I ordered was filled to the brim and probably weighed about a pound. If you are on the north end of Atascadero I'm looking for a bite while you're wondering around I would suggest stopping in and trying their wares.

Yelp
We will definitely be back to this place, and not just for the Negra Modelo ON TAP! That is unique. THE GOOD: the aforementioned beer! Plus, the carnitas were succulent and a perfect mix of crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The albondigas soup was also tasty, if a bit oily. The carne asada was cooked perfectly. And the chips, beans, and rice, staple stuff, were all great. NOT AS GOOD: the salsas were on the bland side, the fries underneath the carne asada were soggy (why do Mexican restaurants keep trying to make carne asada fries and why does my wife keep ordering them?). But the service was fabulously friendly! We will be back for another try!

Yelp
The food and the service was fantastic. We just happened on this place while driving through the area. We liked it so much we are planning on stopping again on our way home. The homemade corn tortillas were amazing.

Caitlin A.

Yelp
El compadre recently went under new ownership. Unfortunately once this happened, the menu changed and the food quality went down. We revelry ordered wet burritos with red sauce. We were disappointed to say the least that the red sauce was incredibly spicy. This has never been the case in the past. Staff did not even notify us that it was. I wasn't able to finish the burrito. El compadre has always been a staple in our house and we have always believed it's some of the best Mexican food in the county. Not so sure anymore. Just overall disappointed

Yelp
Excellent service and a clean establishment! The flavor and freshness of the fajitas and rancho burro are first rate.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly staff. So many Mexican restaurants to choose from and one of the top 5 in the area. Try the El Compadre burrito it's huge and will usually give me lunch and dinner.

Michael M.

Yelp
I had a unique and awesome experience. I have an electric car and am on a road trip. I pushed my limits and ran out of electricity a few hundred feet from a charger. Totally my fault! A mother with her 2 daughters pulled over and offered help. My wife steered while the 4 of us pushed the car up a slight hill to the charger. How awesome is that?! I love the humility that teachers her kids by example and that something so simple helped others out a lot. We talked with them for a bit afterwards and they were very genuine people. This has definatly added to our road trip! I understand that this is not a review if their restruant but I'm sure this same service resonates in their business.

Yelp
Got a little hungry and we were looking for something good to eat. I saw some reviews so we decided to stop in and try it out before hitting the road headed home. We entered the establishment and we saw a menu board, we were greeted and told we could sit anywhere and she brought us menus to the table. We looked it over she brought out our drinks and some chips. They did have a salsa bar for us to get what we liked. We got green chile, and pico de gallon which was very tasty. We placed our order. I got the combo with a sope and rice and beans with shredded beef. My husband ordered a rice bean and cheese burrito. The food was out pretty quickly. The plates where pretty good size and prices really good. Everything was good but I think the meat could have been seasoned a little more. The place is clean including the restrooms. We were brought our ticket paid our bill and left with full tummys.

Yelp
Had a nice experience here the other night. This business in the row of shops across the street from Bru Coffeehouse. The woman seat/ taking our order was nice and helpful. The business seems clean-ish. It could use some paint and the tablecloths seemed to be made out of automotive upholstery fabric. Very fictional but not very pretty. The chips are complimentary and there is a salsa bar. The chip servings were a little small but we just kept asking for more chips which out waitperson never hesitated to oblige our request. For dinner we ordered the fish tacos and one of their wet burritos with beef. The burrito was really good. The fish tacos seemed to need salt but the mango was a nice addition. We liked this place and the service was good. We will definitely come again.

Patrizia M.

Yelp
I ordered compadre burritos from here for my family and there was no meat in them. Just rice, peppers and onions. If I'm going to pay $20 for a burrito with meat there better be meat in it. I would not recommend this place as this is the 2nd time this has happened.
google avatar

Priscilla B.

Yelp
So friendly and delicious at a reasonable price. I love Mexican food and my 7 year old son loves burgers. This small but mighty restaurant made us both happy and satisfied. The cheese enchilada and Chile relleno were delicious! Total comfort food. The red sauce was perfect! My son was very happy with the cheeseburger and fries. A must stop when in Atascadero. Close to the Charles Paddock Zoo!!
google avatar

Mia P.

Yelp
This is one of our regular restaurants, and one of the best Mexican places in the area. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff is kind and helpful. We especially enjoy the carne asada, the chicken fajitas, the chile verde, and the chips and salsa.
google avatar

Lori C.

Yelp
Had the Fiesta Salad last night. So good!!! That dressing is the best. I told my husband he needs to come try it. Thanks!
google avatar

Chilaquile V.

Yelp
Yo! California burrito all day every day! It brings the slappage and we be all about that! Fire mexican food in A town that be reasonably priced! We out here!
google avatar

Charley C.

Yelp
I can't believe I have not reviewed this place. There are four restaurants in this little strip mall and I do like the other three!. Now I can say I like all four. The chili verde was very tender and lean. I need a little spice it up help, and the salsa bar did the trick. Order at the register and they will bring it to you. I very nice local, close to home Mexican restaurant.

Mckayla C.

Yelp
such good food. the service is amazing! its clean and i wont go anywhere else Compadre Burrito
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite Mexican place in town. Also best hamburger in town by far. Huge tasty burger with steak fries. Try it. La Enchilada Chida is my favorite burrito. Give this gem a try. Very nice local owners.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Taking care of business, I decided to give them another chance and they warmed my heart with some delicious food. I have to say I was a lot more impressed with everything. Thank you El Compadre!
google avatar

Jayleen Y.

Yelp
This place will always hold a special place in my heart. I was in town for a dear friend's wedding and El Compadre is where the happy couple had their first date and many more after. The rehearsal dinner was held here and we got to take over half of the restaurant! The salsa bar is good, the chips get refilled frequently, and the prices are generous! CALIFORNIA BURRITO: This bad boy is about the same size as a baby. You will be super full, but you'll also be convincing yourself that you're still hungry because it tastes so good. I mean, how could you go wrong with carne asada and potatoes in a burrito? On top of everything, the vibe is fun and family-like. If you want to be stuffed and happy, come here!
google avatar

LM B.

Yelp
I love the Fiesta Salad! The citrus basil dressing makes this a refreshing unique taste choice. I love the colors of the veggies. I prefer more black beans less chicken breast ... they are generous. W the portions. Always friendly and clean this is a great local find. The enchiladas with the black beans minus the rice is another fav. Call ahead for to go food! I love supporting a local small business that is not a chain. I like that you can see the kitchen and how they keep it clean. I own a local small business one block over called RoCoco Luxe Boutique, New & Resale at 5985 Traffic Way if you want to try another great find! Seriously I love our downtown!
google avatar

Toni C.

Yelp
Very good! My Summer Fish Tostado was delicious and my hubby said his Fish Tacos were great! The chips were fresh and crispy and the Salsa Bar had a great selection of Salsas and condiments. Our waitress was polite and the food was served quickly.
google avatar

Shaunna H.

Yelp
Ignore the snobs about it being in a strip mall. The food is great! Everything we tried were solid 4's. The flavors were what you'd expect of Cali-Mexican food, but cooked well with good ingredients. Tortillas were soft and fresh and heated up on the grill perfectly. Meats were tender and well-seasoned. EXCEPTIONAL: Rajas con Queso Taco. It has strips of the type of chili and cheese used in a chilli releño (without the outside batter), but in a soft taco. It was DELICIOUS. Try it with the creamy cilantro salsa. YUM. Tables are spacious and seating is comfortable chairs. They can easily accommodate a larger group. Decor is cute and homey.
google avatar

Arnold W.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite Mexican food place in Atascadero. Pretty good Mexican food here. The salsa and chips are fresh. I've also had their combo. It's a lot of food!
google avatar

Lyn C.

Yelp
I wanted something easy to eat, but not too heavy...so I picked up some tacos. Interestingly enough they came with lettuce. I tried one with and the rest without to see how I'd like it. I prefer to keep it street no lettuce. The carne asada was just okay, but the CARNITAS. MMM, so good! They had a crisp, charred taste from the grill...just the way I like it.

Debbie M.

Yelp
BEST. CHEESEBURGER. EVER. Yes, I said it. El Compadre serves up the most delicious burger and fries...ever!! Yes, my husband and I go to a Mexican restaurant for a burger. No frozen beef patty at this establishment. You get a fresh "slab" of meat and a yummy bun and all the fixins (lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and pickles) too. The female cashier/waitress is so friendly and accommodating. Thank you, Luis, and crew for serving up a memorable meal.
google avatar

Essayon M.

Yelp
The place was clean and appeared to be a local favorite. Found the chips were unexciting and the salsa tasted canned. Asking for a more crispy taco yields a store bought taco shell. The flavors of the dishes were pretty bland. Staff were pleasant but one waitress and also doubles as the cashier does not help timeliness. CA Mexican food has a reputation that I found this not to come close to. Two stars for staff kindness and pleasant atmosphere. Not recommended.

Yelp
Before arriving at Compadres in Atascadero, I had an unyielding craving for a sandwich. Alas! The lunchtime north-county hot spot, Harsh Harbor, was closed for dinner! After realizing this, my wife [personal tour-guide to the A-Town food scene] made an impromptu suggestion: We can have a Torta at Compadres across the way! At first, I was a bit sluggish to accept the torta as an equivalent to my craving. Sure, it's contents are sandwiched between two thick pieces of bread, but that's about where the juxtaposition ended in my mind. My affinity for sandwiches usually requires a heavy-hand of vineagar - sauerkraut, mustard, pepperoncini, pickle, etc... I never would have thought grilled steak with cheese, tomato, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and bread would work for me - but boy did it ever! The fatty, juicy combination of meat, cheese, crema and vegan cocaine (avocado) made for an amazing party in my mouth. And the main sell for my tastebuds came from an unlikely source, the carb envelope itself! Crispy and nom-tastic, the bread used for this Torta was especially memorable due to the fact that their was clearly a layer of charr-grilled cheese on the outside. While the Torta @ Compadres may not have satisfied my vinegar lust, it was successful in broadening my perspective on what constitutes a "real" sandwich. Now if we can only find a way to engineer some pickled food in there somehow...Eureka! The salsa bar!

Tisha S.

Yelp
This restaurant has been my family's favorite for years! They use the freshest ingredients, always! My favorite menu items are the Shrimp Enchiladas & San Dieguito Burrito, and Chicken Torta. My husband and son always get the Tortas, huge Mexican sandwiches made with fresh big rolls from San Miguel Bakery! So good!!
