25 Essential Tacos in and Around Denver

"Where there’s consomé, there’s quesabirria — and this truck parked on the corner of West Colfax and Xavier does a mighty fine version of both. The broth is light and citrusy, the tacos slightly puffy and plenty cheesy, and the red and green salsas that come with not only these but all the tacos on offer are superlative." - Eater Staff, Ruth Tobias

Google
If you want Birria that melts in your mouth and Barbacoa so tender and sticky go here. We didn't particularly like the chicken only because it wasn't shredded but, the flavor was good. Quick service and fresh hot food, will be coming back again and again!

Google
Just moved to this area and my wife was super excited to find a new birria spot. Based on the great reviews and pictures we tried it out two nights ago purchasing three orders of the quesabirria tacos, $40+. Got home and the only real disappointment was not enough meat. You can compare my picture to other reviews and site pics. The consume wasn’t the best we’ve had but for the most part it was good! Just lacking meat so my wife called that night seeing what they could do and the female employee said she’d give our info to the manager and for us to expect a call back. Never heard anything back so we called today and the same gal basically said “well I did my job in apologizing and we won’t really do anything, we’ve never once had a complaint”. To reiterate the food was pretty good but when you spend that much on dinner for two people and they under serve on meat, set you up like they will do the right thing then just say an apology was enough to cover the cost it deserves one star.

Google
I love taco trucks. I won't lie. This one is HORRIBLE. 30$ down the drain. Soggy. Meat was weird and red colored. Bad taste. I live a couple blocks from the this taco truck and I will never eat herr again.

Dave Whittaker

Google
Food is really good but not great. We tried four birria and four tacos. The meat is all above average/5 stars but we thought the tortillas and broth for the birria weren't as good as other places. I still highly recommend trying it!

Google
These guys are the real deal 🔥I come here once a week they are always consistent! The quesabirrias are my favorite dish, the pozole is so flavorful and the tacos are HUGE! I ordered a catering order for 20 people and even the catering is amazing! I will keep coming back every taco Tuesday! Karina is also extremely friendly and Gonzalo is an amazing chef that goes above and beyond to make sure you are happiest! #TheBestInTown

Google
Where do I start! El Consome de Morelos has 2 locations. One is a food trailer and the other sit down restaurant on Sheridan! The best Queso Birria and barbacoa actual cheek meat. I didn't try the Birria consome. It's worth any amount of drive, especially, if you think you found the best elsewhere! These people deserve to go viral!!

Google
The birra tacos are not the best. But the normal asada tacos hit. Very good, but I wouldn't suggest getting the birra tacos. They give you a like for each taco, and multiple sauces. It is a food truck, and not a restaurant. I thought I was going to dine in for food. But I ended up doing something else for dining in. There is a bar next to it I think for you to grab drinks there and order food from them.

Google
Absolutely amazing food here, the people are always nice and will always be my go to taco spot whenever I’m in the area.

Yelp
First things first - My order was ready right on time and the service was fantastic! Very good personality at the window. Now moving on to the most important part. The food was outta this world. Never did I think I'd be driving to a food truck weekly for a meal but here I am. Proudly supporting them every chance I get because it's delicious! I don't have any pictures because it's gone by the time I remember. The food smells so good it's like crack. I gotta bust it open and eat it immediately!

Yelp
This little taco truck is right in front of a dingy and dirty bar for dirt cheap drinks and smart for this business because once they're drunk they can purchase tacos from them. This place doesn't have a price on their truck and when asked it almost felt like the lady was annoyed. I then spoke Spanish to her, just to show her I'm no gringa. I asked to try out their carne asada and its the best thing ever!!! Made with homemade tortilla, carne, cilantro and onions with limes... I had an party in my mouth. Idk what is up with Denver CO but this place seems to not like black people. Idk same attitude was given just at the other location. Bad customer service but the food was great. Would I come back, Hell yeah! Next time if the attitude is given and I'm going to give it back.

Yelp
Semi decent food truck. Location is off Colfax. The service was friendly, but we seemed to wait a while for our tacos. There wasn't too much ambiance. Kicking myself for not getting pictures!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
I got the quesabirria tacos and they were pretty delicious. The order came with 3 tacos which were decent size, consome, and a red and green sauce. The limes were unfortunately a little dry. I wish they would allow ordering a la carte tacos. I ordered for pickup and it took 30 minutes longer than quoted. The food truck is at a convenient location to me so I will definitely return to try other items on the menu. I will make sure to allow extra time for them to prepare the food so I'm not awkwardly standing on the busy street of Colfax.
google avatar

Mateo D.

Yelp
Not pictured were the Quesabirrias which are fantastic! I basically drank the Consome and added the green sauce all over my tacos. Takes about 10 minutes after ordering at the food truck and always comes packaged up with the sauces.

Hannah S.

Yelp
Best birria tacos I have ever had. The price is super affordable too. I've already gone twice this week!
google avatar

Cesar H.

Yelp
The food truck is parked on Colfax Ave close to the Alamo draft house. I was able to try it for my coworkers birthday. The quesabirria tacos were very very good! The consome was flavorful and the salsas were spicy but full of flavor as well! The staff was friendly and the vibe overall the place was fitting. Definitely check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
My #1 go-to for lunch when I'm in the area. The quesabirria tacos are unmatched. In fact, they're all I get. Sometimes beef, sometimes chicken. Sometimes with extra cheese. Orders are always consistent and the food is really delicious. I see lots of comments about waits - dry limes - etc. but isn't it really about the quality of the food? It's good, people. Really good.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Good food and good service. Only 4 stars since the tacos were rather dry for a Birria taco in my opinion. Salsa was good but, not very spicy if you are worried about that. Would definitely go back to try another menu item!
google avatar

Casey P.

Yelp
3.5 stars! Pretty tasty tacos, and I liked the salsas. Worth a stop if you're craving tacos and in the area. The meat was reasonably flavorful, I loved the cheesiness, and the price is more than fair. They also don't skimp on the portion sizes, so a great spot if you're very hungry. With that said, I'm going to be a little harsh and admit that out of all the 4 different spots I've had birria tacos this year, these were the bottom of the heap. This year, I've had Kiké's red tacos in Denver, "La Unica" in LA, Kalaka Mexican Kitchen in Evergreen, CO, and El Consomé de Morelos on Colfax. These were the unfortunately the weakest of the four for a few reasons: - The best quesabirria tacos have one thing in common: crispy tortilla. El Consomé de Morelos unfortunately does not have the crispy shell, which docks it a bit ("Kiké's" and "La Unica" in LA absolutely nail this). - Out of all four consomé spots I've been, el consomé de morelos had the least flavorful and most watery consomé. This is the only consomé that neither my wife and I chose to drink / finish after eating the tacos. - Meat was NOT BAD at all, but was the least flavorful of the four. I definitely WOULD go back here, don't get me wrong, and I wish I could give 3.5 instead of 3. But I've also got to be honest, these are not the best birria in town.

Crystal E.

Yelp
Wow. I've tried a few Birria tacos and these are by far one of the best ones. So fresh and amazing. The birria broth is to die for. We actually saved it and made birria ramen when we got home. It's a tiny little food truck but don't let the looks take away from the quality of the food.

Yelp
After visiting Mexico, I was curious to see where I could find affordable and delicious tacos in Denver, and I did! Located inconspicuously as a food truck on colfax, el consome has tacos for $2.50 with onions, cilantro, and salsa. We ordered right away and there was little line on a Saturday night. The food came out in 5-10mins which was perfect because you know they were made fresh to eat. The taste was so authentic to what I had just had in Ensenada Baja Norte just the week before We ordered the carne asada, barbacoa, and carnitas tacos! Definitely swing by for a great eat!
google avatar

Braden D.

Yelp
Visited this place last weekend and was extremely underwhelmed. They're consome significantly lacked flavor. The birria was cooked well but the tortillas were not as crispy as I would have liked.
google avatar

Patricia G.

Yelp
(English below) - Okay this place is seriously super delicious. Ordered online and it was ready within 15 minutes. The sauces tasted amazing. The food itself was super tasty. It's a food truck right off of Colfax. This is a spot you definitely have to check out. It has 5 stars for a reason. I will 1000% be returning!
google avatar

Alan Z.

Yelp
Got 4 tacos from this place and they were all pretty good. I couldn't really tell the difference in the meats since I was so hungry and just eating them all. Both the sauces work well with whatever type of meat you have but I prefer the red sauce a little more. My friends got a breakfast burrito and those things are very value.
google avatar

Hayden S.

Yelp
SO YUMMY! I've have birria several times, but never had I had birria that was SO incredibly tender and savory. I absolutely loved the spicy orange/red salsa on both the quesabirria and the torta. It added just the right amount of heat. The torta was stuffed with so many delicious fillings and the bread was soft and fresh. Would highly recommend giving this place a try!
google avatar

Madisyn P.

Yelp
Everything we needed for a late night bite. Friendly service, fresh flavorful food. Burritos, tacos, and salsa were all fuego.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Completely impressed, Especially for a DoorDash delivery order. Tacos were great, presentation and packaging great. Good value. The delivery part took a while but the order was still hot and looking good. Highly recommend the quesabirria. Even the beans were perfect!
google avatar

Brittney C.

Yelp
SOOOOO GOOD!!!! The asada quesadilla was to die for!!! The chips and guacamole were also so good!
google avatar

Sherrin M.

Yelp
Give this place a call to make sure they have what you want. They close up when they're sold out. We came by on a Sunday and lucked out with them still having everything at 6:30 PM. This stuff is the real deal y'all. Freaking delicious. What you need to order: Quesa birria tacos Barbacoa burrito The birria tacos are super crispy and filled with juicy meat, cheese, onions, cilantro. Then you get to dunk them in the consume - yum. The consume wasn't as flavorful as I was used to but hey it all worked together beautifully. You gotta dunk in the consume and then dunk in the hot sauce - trust me. The barbacoa burrito is larrrggggee. Filled with tender shredded beef, cheese, beans, smothered in green chile. I mean what's not to like? Everything was super flavorful. Their hot sauces are BOMBBB. The spicy red sauce is SPICY but oh so flavorful. They have a mild green sauce and it's a cilantro based sauce - refreshing and delish. Come here! You will be so happy you did!

Yelp
I've been here twice. I think this is my favorite street taco spot in Denver. Quick, good food at a fair price. Quesadillas are kinda expensive, though.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Why Matt, why? You've lived a half mile away from El Consome De Morelos for nearly a year. You've driven by the food truck over 150 times. What the hell took you so long to try it? On behalf of myself, I would like to apologize to my stomach, my appetite and my mouth. This food truck is like the little engine that could, dishing bomb Mexican food for under $10. For the longest time I thought it was a tamale truck. After finally stepping up to the plate, it's legit Latin food with a Denver flare. Tacos, smothered burritos, breakfast burritos, pupusas, consome, quesadillas. I went on an exhausting 7 mile hike and I knew like the back of my hand that I needed a smothered burrito. The best part, they serve Barbacoa! FTW, that's rare. And damn, was this giant burrito that ran me $8 was a home run. Soft burrito, perfectly tender Barbacoa, and all the gooey melty cheese you dream about. This will not be my last time here. They are parked here pretty much every day outside The Viking Bar. Whatchu waiting for?!

Yelp
I was craving tacos so I decided to order from this place. I ordered 4 tacos and a quesadilla from doordash. DIdn't realize they were a food truck, but it's pretty cool that they offer delivery. I will say the quesadilla tasted amazzzing. Top 5 quesadilla's I've ever had and I've lived in Texas. Like I want to know what cheese they used and if they made their tortilla's from scratch because it was delicious. Would order again for sure. But I wanted tomato and they charged $1.70 for tomatoes in a quesadilla? A little bit too much I think, but whatever - now I know. Now for the tacoss mehhh not so much....I got 4 asada tacos. The beef was just very tough, and not that flavorful....maybe it was just a bad night because I really wanted to like them. I may try them again but it was just tough , I ended up not eating them. They could use to marinade or something. Either way I will for sure order quesadilla's from here again 100%.

Yelp
This food truck is in east Denver/Sloan Lake area. While it's not a full dine in restaurant, it's somewhat attached to a dive bar on Colfax. I'm not the biggest fan of the location, but their quesabirria tacos are SO good. I recommend ordering ahead for pick up so you don't have to wait. They have a fantastic habenero salsa and I loved their Barbacoa tacos as well. A great food spot that you can take to Sloan Lake and enjoy with some beautiful scenery.
google avatar

Adam W.

Yelp
Moved here about 6 months ago, but best tacos I've had so far in Denver! Especially the adovada
google avatar

Jacob M.

Yelp
Great street tacos, flavorful and juicy.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Very good food must try. Fri sat sun 11-9 Monday 11-2 Tuesday 11-9 Wednesday and Thurs 11-6

Coral M.

Yelp
The food looked delicious on the yelp reviews. I had 4 plain birria tacos with onion and cilantro. Unfortunately, the meat lacks flavor and salt. My husband got the consomé but again that lacks lots of flavor. I've had other birria tacos like Kikes and that is full of flavor both consomé and the meat. I would not recommend this place if you are expecting flavor.
google avatar

Stephanee L.

Yelp
This place has amazing quesabirria tacos. Best I've had. Their other tacos on the menu are good as well.

Brandon A.

Yelp
Best Asada tacos in Denver. Dont worry about anything else and grab yourself 6 because you wont be able to stop

Saray L.

Yelp
The service was good, however the food here was not worth $40. I ordered the queso birria tacos and the consome had no flavor at all and looked like water with cilantro on top. The green salsa had no flavor and the birria meat had hardly any flavor too. The adobada tacos were decent but not my favorite.
google avatar

Vin P.

Yelp
We love this place. We live up the street and get this once a month or more. Hope you love cilantro! We always get the tacos. My wife get cheese on hers and I go light onions. Packed with flavor!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! Everything I've had here is great, from the quesabirrias to the tacos to the burritos and quesadillas. For first timers, I highly recommend the quesabirrias and al pastor tacos with LOTS of their homemade salsa and a side of beans. I promise you will not be disappointed. The owner is also super nice and truly appreciates her customers which makes the experience all the more inviting. Check this place out!
google avatar

Jj C.

Yelp
The queso birria tacos are out of this world! So delicious!! They were super friendly and make there food with love...
google avatar

Makaylah S.

Yelp
Our new favorite spot. We tried it for my fiances birthday, we had been missing tacos (from the dmv area) it did not disappoint. We wanted to try a little of everything and their prices are great too. We ordered tacos de pollo, barbacoa, carnitas, and quesa birria tacos with consome. The flavors were authentic and hit just the right spot . We also got a torta de carne asada and it was amazing too. We cant wait to come back!
google avatar

Lila B.

Yelp
Oh yeah, this is what it's all about. Giant portions, perfectly smoky hot sauce, and quick turnover. I wish they had more vegetarian options so I wasn't forced to order a quesadilla, but the quesadilla has a cheese pull to die for, so I'm not really complaining!
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
hands down. BEST TACOS IN DENVER. So many good things to say about this food truck (which is conveniently located walking distance from me). Not only are their tacos so authentic - now frills, just good food - but they make homemade sauces that is the gift that keeps on giving. Support local and don't sleep on their breakfast burritos as well!
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
All I can say is WOW! I had read all the reviews and boy are thyy right. This place is SOOOOO good. The quesabirria tacos are amazing, and so filling. The meat is tender and juicy and the flavors are rich and amazing. You get an order of 3 and I shouldn't have stopped after 2, but couldn't help myself. Don't wait to try this place, it doesn't disappoint. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Jose A.

Yelp
I was at Sloan lake yesterday and searched for near by Mexican food. Wow! what a hidden Gem! Super authentic and probably the best burrito I've ever had. I ordered the Barbacoa. Light and flavorful...Warning they don't serve Chicken here (real Mexicans don't cook chicken)
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
OMG! I have now consumed every item on the menu. This is the place on the west side for tacos and burritos. Period. Let's support this business. Trust me...

Tanya L.

Yelp
This is one of the best kept secrets in Denver. The breakfast burritos are perfect!! Perfect ratio of potatoes, eggs, chili and meat. The Barbacoa tacos will melt in your mouth!! The biria tacos are delicious and the consome is flavorful and not super greasy/fatty.
google avatar

Misty S.

Yelp
Will definitely be going back! Everything was fresh and delicious. The barilla was the best I've had! Happy to have good authentic food close to home, thank you!

Lareda M.

Yelp
Just moved to Denver from Austin, Tx. Finding authentic tacos not BURRITOS here is so hard but I hit the jackpot when I found el consome!

Danny D.

Yelp
The best tacos I've had in Denver... and amazing service. They were ready right when we requested. You gotta try this place!
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Went during their opening time one day and was disappointed to see it was closed. Yesterday, we drove past it and were thrilled to see it was open. Banh a u turn and ordered Birria tacos and chicken quesadilla. Both were great. Loved the dipping sauce!!
google avatar

Aisha M.

Yelp
The tacos were amazing. Perfectly spiced, loaded with meat and great salsas. Just perfect!

Devon W.

Yelp
I ordered 4 Asada Tacos and only received 2 filled tacos and I also got lemons instead of limes. The food was really good

Masie R.

Yelp
Best quesabirria tacos!! Definitely found my new favorite spot. Everything about it was perfect! Right amount of cheese and meat. 3 may not look like enough but it is. The orange salsa was spicy which I loved. Not sure what the green one was but either way I wouldn't change a thing about the food I got.
google avatar

Evan V.

Yelp
Saw the reviews so I decided to check it out. Before coming here I was really bored with tacos in Denver. Most places I've been to use bland meat. This place knocks everyone else out of the park. High quality ingredients even down to the taco shell. Super friendly people and affordable. I really enjoyed the favor and everything. Delicious!!
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Super YUM! Loved their birria tacos and consomeé! Also ordered a side of beans, very delicious as well and came with extra soft corn tortillas. Plenty of fresh lime and tasty salsas came with the order. Highly recommend, and will surely order or visit this place again.
