Yelp
I'm only giving this place 3 stars because I'm a huge fan of their butcher shop next door. And since this place just opened on February 26 2022 they probably haven't hit their stride and need to iron out some things.
Restaurant:
everything is brand new, interior is very clean, bar style seating along one wall with stools and a very small salsa stand with onion, cilantro, salsas, lemon, etc
Food:
Ordered a sonora taco and ribeye taco at 6.99 each (yes, really) and a Carne asada burrito for 8.99 as takeout.
For 6.99 a taco I was expecting more but it was just a plain taco, a bit larger than average with your standard double tortilla. Came with onions, cilantro, radish, 2 lemon wedges in a sandwich bag and 2 salsas. I thought I saw pickled onions in the salsa bar but my bag was void of those which I wasn't aware of. There was an avocado salsa I had to request and was given a sandwich bag to get some from the salsa bar because it wasn't ready to go in the takeout cups.
The meat in the Sonora taco was very good, tender, flavorful, and a decent portion. The ribeye was OK, maybe overcooked, not much flavor, smaller portion, and it took a few extra minutes to make since they make it to order instead of it being precooked in a warming pan. I wasn't impressed with the prime tacos and probably not order them as I don't see the value, there wasn't anything special about them from a creativity standpoint, no special toppings, or salsa. I didn't try any of their standard tacos.
The Carne asada burrito was the most egregious of the experience. Every single bite had tough and chewy gristle. I was expecting the delicious, tender, melt in your mouth Carne asada which I order almost monthly from their butcher shop next door. It. Was. Not. I had to spit out some of it because it was just too difficult to chew. And this might be the downside of ordering from a taco restaurant that is a side business to a butcher shop. I suspect scraps were used to make the Carne asada that went in the burrito and if that's the case I wouldn't doubt it's practiced with other offerings. It had the flavor I was expecting, but everything else about the meat was disappointing. Beans were OK, I think it had some onions and cilantro inside it was not much. Burrito size was average but I suspect the weight was mostly bean weight.
Red salsa was too hot for me, green was mild but maybe could use some salt, and the avocado salsa was really good but you might not get it if you order takeout and do not ask.
Customer service:
No complaints, the lady at the registered was pleasant and helpful to me and everyone else that came through after. Access to the salsa bar and/or availability to everything it holds is important, and I hope they allow it in the future.
Anyway I will probably not return for a few months, like I mentioned before, they just opened and have some things they need to work on. I may retry it but there are other options with better flavor, quality, portions, and value closer to home.
