"...and others in El Diablo y La Sandia, a very easygoing place where I usually go with my friends; it's also where I stay when I plan trips to Mexico around my design collaborations with local artisans."

We stayed at El Diablo y la Sandia (Libres) in early July and every single person on their staff was friendly and kind. It was our first visit to Oaxaca and someone was there or available by email anytime we had a question or need directions. From making the reservation to getting us back to the airport they took good care of us every step. Fernando even made us herbal tea when we weren't feeling great.||We stayed in the upstairs room and enjoyed resting on the patio in the afternoons (It is available to all guests) often waiting out the delightful and usually brief rain showers. The breakfasts were delicious and made with love. The portions are not huge, which was perfect for me. My husband could have eaten a bit more, but with all the great food in town we were eating all day anyway. The hotel has all sorts of extras available to borrow, umbrellas, bags, hats, sunscreen and bug spray. We brought our own, but having back up was great.||The hotel is close to everything, we like to walk and found Oaxaca a very walkable city. The Centro is a busy downtown area and it can be very loud due to the way the buildings are built. We loved our room, but it might have been a bit quieter on the ground floor? We’ll have to come back to find out!

We stayed at El Diablo y la Sandía Libres for three nights and enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel is lovely and laid back, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was right for us, walking distance to the historic downtown and the Jalatlaco neighborhood. We are already looking for an opportunity to stay at this hotel again in the future.

We were greeted and given our room a little earlier than check in time. The person at the desk gave us a map and made recommendations where to go to eat and the pharmacy.. breakfast was wonderful; they prepare it fresh on site. The rooms are cute, clean, and comfortable. I felt very safe the whole time.

Really great hotel. Very good value for the price and very well located without the city. The courtyard where you can get breakfast is absolutely lovely and there's beautiful decor throughout. I recommend getting the Luna room if it's available! It's upstairs next to the really beautiful terrace full of plants and has larger windows that look out over the courtyard.

I loved my stay at El Diablo Y La Sandia. The location is quiet, yet very walkable to Santo Domingo, the Alacala, restaurants, and the Textile Museum. The staff are exceptional, Fernando helped us immensely especially when we needed to find different lodging in Mexico City. The breakfasts are outstanding and great coffee was always available early. The rooftop patio is an oasis. My room, Corazon, was lovely with a comfortable bed and pillows, a clean and spacious bathroom with a shower, plenty of storage for my clothing. I felt so safe and comfortable, I couldn’t wait to get back to my place after a long day of walking around. I’d definitely stay there again, and Ive stayed many places in Oaxaca City in the 13 years Ive been going there.

Diablo y Sandia is truly a gem. Once you enter the doorway you are in a quiet refuge from the busy street. The rooms are sweetly decorated, quiet, clean and comfortable. The real treat is breakfast each morning. The staff set a beautiful communal table and the food is well prepared and beautifully served. |Both kitchen and office staff are very helpful. The location is convenient...close to the zocalo and city center. It is also close to the neighborhoods of La Merced and Jalatlaco (murals are great).|We so enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was lovely and the bed comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfasts in the courtyard every morning. They were flexible with the hours, we had two early tours, which they helped arranged and both days we had breakfast an hour early. Fernando was very helpful, booking tours and a taxi for us on our last day. |Just a few things to be aware of. The location is not quite central and it was a bit dark for several blocks around the BnB. That said, we had absolutely no problems and felt safe. Also there is no staff there at night but there are numbers posted that you can call.
