"When I was in elementary school, we eagerly piled into my abuelo’s gray Chevrolet G20 conversion van for any chance to shop at south Stockton’s bright concha green-painted El Dorado market to see piñatas, take in the scents of warm tamales and carnitas, and listen to all of the compadres gossip." - Bill Esparza

The best King burrito yet. I got a carne asada burrito, but I ask for the KING size. I could not finish it!!!it tasted great!

Google
Passing through Stockton, saw all the great reviews for this place and decided to try it out. I always get a bean and cheese burrito, bc beans are a staple for Mexican food and you have to get that right. They got it right. Burrito was awesome. Also got chili Verde burrito and they got that right too. This place was very busy and popular with the locals. The only downside is the burritos are a little small, but I guess you can order a king-size, so I was told.

Google
I bought a quart of Chile Verde and a quart of Chile Colorado. $50.00 Then the mocosso says, everything is so expensive nowadays, like he's been around to experience inflation. That's more of a rip off not inflation.

Google
Ordered a doz. pork tamales got chicken with green sauce. Ordered doz. beef tamales full of fat. The worst tamales I’ve eaten. Got home 45 minutes away from store to be really disappointed. Won’t be going back. Should have went to Costco there tamales are so much more tastier.

Barbara Ibarra

Google
Love the chili Colorado burrito the best my favorite. Tamales are bomb but you have to order ahead of time they run out fast. Not the best neighborhood nor the building is old but the food is bomb !!!!!!!!

Steve Razo

Google
It's been awhile since I visited this place . I purchased some chorizo and it's was really good. I mixed it up with potatoes.

Google
I loved the prices on the burritos, I must say their not that big but their extremely tasty you can also get the kings burrito if your really hangry!!

Just there and waited long to be helped. Ladies don’t help they were just gossiping and bad mouthing a customer that they got off the phone with. Products are good but the customer service and general common courtesy is lacking. Luckily there are other markets nearby.

Gary A.

Yelp
Best beef tamales that we had in awhile .More meat than masa, good flavor and very thick. My batch of 12 were finished in 2 days. Not greasy or musshy.Ate one in car and the tamale did not fall apart after I pulled husk. Have eaten these since we were younger. My grandmother abuelita and mom bought the mask here to make ur homemade ones. Friendly market always packed luckily we call in our order to fill our table with good tamales .

Yelp
It's been years since I have been here. Went early to avoid large crowds. I ordered some pork and cheese tamales and some pastries. Everything was very good. I will definitely be coming back. I want to try their menudo next. Heads up, The menudo is only made on Saturday and Sunday. Can't wait.

John F.

Yelp
Usually during the holidays we order a variety of tamales for an annual family event. The pork, beef, and chicken tamales are all delicious. The beef and or the chicken tamales which are my favorites, but my kids loved the pork. They are all good. If you can get thru on the phone it is best to pre-order your tamales. They also have an other Mexican food items, and basically a Mexican meat market and neighborhood store. In previous visits we have had their burritos and tacos which have all been good. The store was pretty organized and efficient. This year the staff was friendlier than in the past, in fact I would say in the past they were actually grumpy in previous years. Which isn't an excuse but when the line wraps around the block and you've been up all day I get. During the holidays, the security guy out front is great, he has been there for years. He kept things organized in the line and is informative. We go there for the tamales and definitely not here for the service, LOL. Parking lot has limited spaces and street parking is easier but in the winter months kind of dangerous as El Dorado is busy and some drive recklessly.

Rosalinda E.

Yelp
I called a carnitas order all meat for pick up. When I got home I noticed they gave me buche when I asked and paid for all meat (see pictures). I called and told the owner my order was incorrect. She mentioned they have a sign to check your order before you leave (what kind of response is this). She advised to bring the food back to them and I can get a refund or a new order. I get there and they immediately open the bag to check the food (assuming I was lying) and don't even apologize for the inconvenience they caused. Any restaurant would have gave u a refund and made you your order correctly. This place is rude and needs to learn customer service skills. They have lost me as a customer and will share with my friends and family to not come here!

Christine U.

Yelp
We go there for chili verde burritos and fresh pre-packed flour tortillas. Place is always busy, but busy is a good thing.

Robert F.

Yelp
Always a staple! Everybody has their own favorite, this one is mine and my family's for generations. Great tasting refried beans, carnitas, tamales and fresh made tortillas. Check their hours, they close at 6 mostly.

Eme E.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and it's definitely a local favorite service is consistent. The food is good with homemade tortillas they have everything a carniceria could have from butcher meat to pastries to deli cooked food. Order your burritos to the cashier and wait for your order wait time is not so bad. We always order the Chile Colorado with cheese and jalapeños the size is so small and they are skimpy on the meat but the flavor is delicious wish they would do a bigger size burritos.

Justin M.

Yelp
When an electric chair is my manana, El Dorado's chili verde burrito is my meal the evening before in cell. When you wander in, understand it's a on the South Side. You'll be confused by the ordering. You'll wait. You'll browse some market shelves and wonder about lead and octane. You'll sense what's about to come. But you'll eventually receive something akin to your abuelita's burrito. Simple. Sublime. Elemental in your mind. And order those tamales before hand. Cheese and green chili will be your family favorite, mos def.

Amelia L.

Yelp
Went across town because I heard this place had the best tamales. They were 2.35 dollars each which is a good price but the masa was too hard. Cheese w jalapeño had a roach

Patricia D.

Yelp
The El Dorado Market has great tamales! We've only done take-out and although they always have a crowd the service is quick and efficient. I recommend calling in-advance.

Melina M.

Yelp
Most underrated burritos ever. Their beans and tortillas are the best! Definitely recommend

Valerie J.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and have stopped by here often for burritos and such. one day I stopped for beans and rice. it was packed, as usual. not an issue. I know how it is here. I ordered my food and paid for that and some grocery items. then I stood by the door to wait. people came and went. 45 minutes later, no one had called me, so I asked the cashier who waited on me if my food was ready. she appeared annoyed that I was even asking, and said they would call when my food was ready. then she disappeared into the kitchen. nearly 30 minutes later, still no one had called my name. finally she came out of the kitchen with my order, and I went to the counter to get my food. I was told it took so long because they had thrown my food away. THROWN MY FOOD AWAY. because they had called my name with no response. but no one called my name. not once. and I know she saw me waiting by the door, because our eyes met. I want so much to support my neighborhood businesses. but i'm so sick of people playing these stupid games. i will never come here again. ever.

Jacquelyn B.

Yelp
Born and raised in the 209, best tortillas hands down. Are the burritos small? Yes, but who's stopping you from getting 2? Some places are charging $20 for burritos nowadays. The key is to get a bean and cheese and chili verde ANNDDDD a pack of tortillas so you can enjoy them at home. The best is getting home, turning on a fire stove, and adding some butter once it gets charred. I moved to Portland recently and I think about these burritos daily. Truly don't know what you're missing out on until it's gone.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Too Expensive ! In saying that they take advantage of shoppers. Only grocery store in town so makes sense. The deli is great!

Maureen G.

Yelp
If you desire the most amazing burrito you can find in Stockton then you've come to the right place. We always call in our order ahead. We've tried a market closer to home and really, there was no comparison and prices were much higher. I always order the chicken burrito and Bob orders the beef, you can even get Colorado style. This burrito weighs in close to a pound stuffed with tender shredded white meat and comes with rice and beans and jalapeños, if you dare. Take home some of their Pico de Gallo and your meal will be complete. I also suggest ordering a pint or quart of pinto beans and rice so you can enjoy some burritos throughout the week! To us ElDorado Market burritos are worth the drive and so reasonably priced compared to what you can get in north Stockton. It's a fun experience just going into the store, lots of bustle.

Yelp
Ben going here for years love the food and prices but I noticed they never ever give me beans on my burrito I ask for beans every time and still never get beans and the tortillas have got realy thick and dry they must have a new person making the tortillas

Karina P.

Yelp
Picked up 5 chile verde burritos on a Sunday morning. Called in my order. Waited about 30 min after my promised time. Place is very unorganized. All of us got sick soon after eating the burritos. Never again!

Carolina R.

Yelp
Great place for the tamales and masa as well as the Mexican nick nacks we love. It's always busy and very popular in the community

Tina M.

Yelp
It pains me to have to write this but here I go.... I used to come here since I was a child. They always had the best flour tortillas! And their beans were also soooo good! Well, since the past year or so the quality has took a turn for the worse. I even mentioned it to my coworker and she immediately said "yea their tortillas are thick and clumpy now'. So its not just me which was the final nudge I needed to write this. Ever since their tortilla machine was broken, now they have clumpy thick tortillas. This was not the case beforehand. I even came back more than several time just to make sure they weren't having a bad day. Even their beans are watery now. Im so sad that this place that was a holy grail, a staple in my life, has took a turn for the worse. Now I must find a new place that makes flour tortillas and not pita bread . RIP Flour tortillas from El Dorado Market.

Virginia S.

Yelp
Somehow my review was removed. Like I said, El Dorado market has been my favorite for over 20 years. Food made fresh daily. My all-time favorite is chili Colorado, tamales, pastries, and town favorite tortillas made right there. Once home you fire your placa and they puff up and are the best! Like homemade!

Nanci-Nanciele M.

Yelp
What can you say? This is an oldie but goodie! Everyone in Stockton can testify to the excellent tamales, burritos, and pan dulce. Their little store has many various cultural goods for sale. For the purpose of this review I will be rating only on the tamales, Burritos, and Pan Dulce! First of all let me start off by telling you that the parking here is insufficient and in a sketchy area. The actual parking lot houses approximately 10 cars, but there is plenty of parking across the street. Be careful when you cross this one-way road to get to the El Dorado market as it is a busy street and cars do fly down the street. Now let's talk about the food, I don't know if the tortillas are made fresh there in the shop daily but man these tortillas are amazing! Not the tortillas in the packages that I have in the pictures but the tortillas on the Barito are delicious! The beans inside the burrito are amazing and possibly the best refried beans in Stockton! The burrito is mostly beans however, I ordered asada and there was some in there. Do you take a note how I said some, it is not a lot of meat but it is a lot of beans in these burritos! I added on cheese for $.30 more and I also added in sour cream for $.30 more. There was no rice inside of the burrito it was simply meat and beans and you could have jalapeños, the jalapeños were those out of a can or a jar. But again let me say these beans are delicious and I'm sure that is why people come for the burritos! Burritos I'm giving them a 10 out of 10 So now let's talk about the tamales, I highly advise you to call ahead and order your tamales not ahead had a couple hours but I had a couple of days as this place often sells out of orders for tamales around the holidays. The tamales are absolutely delicious and the perfect blend of masa and meat, they are probably some of the meatiest tamales that I have ever Purchased. They were sold out of chicken tamales so I had to get the pork but it did not disappoint me nor my family. I am giving the tamales a 10 out of 10 So now for that Pan dulce I was talking about, let me start off by saying there was hardly any available by the time I got there at 11:30 AM. However they did have my favorite the gingerbread pigs! The pan dulce I will say is extremely fresh and absolutely made the same day that you buy it. The prices are comparable to other businesses in the area. I'm going to give the pan dulce a 9 only due to the lack of variety available. Overall score 8 (7.6 so rounding up) sure wish Yelp had half stars as this would be a game changer on scoring these places but they don't. Tamales. 10 Burritos. 10 Pan dulce. 9 Parking. 2 Customer service. 7

Alicia S.

Yelp
Burritos are always full of flavor, meat and a rice and beans. Friendly staff and quick service.

Vincent M.

Yelp
Very good pork tamales they dont skimp on the meat. For 2.25 each its a no brainer. Bit of a wait but well worth it make sure you call ahead

Leah 2.

Yelp
Omg the burrito is SO FLAVORFUL... try the chilli Colorado burrito just try. Never disappointed.. great customer service too

Yelp
I been coming here getting tamales since I was a kid. The masa is moist and flavorful, they give the most meat I have ever had in a tamale of anywhere I have tried. I always get lost trying to find the end of the line and have to ask everyone not wearing and apron if they have ordered yet.

Reyes V.

Yelp
The best tamales in stockton! They are so big and filling. I could probably eat a half dozen myself

Jeanette T.

Yelp
Masa has always been good and ready when ordered. Flour tortillas are really good when you can get them, they go fast. Haven't tried anything else here. Did buy a tamale pot here. Not the greatest quality it's pretty thin all around but price was good. $23/24 for a 20qrt pot. Service is good. Get people moving quickly. The inside is small and packed but will have all you need. Stockton history

Nicole C.

Yelp
FAMILY OWNED, DELICIOUS FRESH and HOMEMADE. You can feel the love in the environment when you enter, the service is great, the food is tasty and high quality. 10/10

Jen N.

Yelp
So delicious rice, beans, chile verde, beef and I must say the homemade tortillas are so damn good! I can eat a whole pack with nothing. They have party trays worth it! It's a cute little market, they are known for masa and tamales as well, I saw chicharrones. It was busy this past week when I went. I definitely will be coming back.

Levi-Nicolle S.

Yelp
I love this place! My inlaws took me here and we got the most delicious tamales (we've tried their beef, chicken and pork tamales - all delicious). The staff were really helpful when asked for help and the prices are really good! Couldn't ask for more. We've been a few times now, I definitely look forward to going again and trying some of their other tasty dishes.

Marcilla H.

Yelp
Been going here for many years . Moved to Sacramento about 5 years ago will literally drive down just to go get me some El Dorado Market . My favorite chili calorado best hands down.

Jerri R.

Yelp
Wish area was better but great beans and rice. Have enjoyed their food for many years.

Alissa M.

Yelp
El Dorado Market is making me chunky, lol!!! Seriously though, I have yet to go wrong with anything I've eaten here. The pan dulce is definitely the best in town and I have had my fair share of it from many different markets. I also recently tried the Chile Verde King burrito and it was AMAZEBALLS. It's just meat, rice, beans and jalapenos wrapped up in their amazing flour tortillas-so simple but absolutely delicious! The customer service is always friendly and courteous, the food is awesome and my boy loves the selection of candy...yup, we're big time fans!

Kyle B.

Yelp
Have had both the Chile Colorado and Chile Verde plates served buffet style with rice and beans and it was excellent. Very popular for burritos as well, repeat customer for catering!

Steve I.

Yelp
Decades ago, my best friend and I used to hit El Dorado Market for lunch at least once a week. We were poor HS students (Soul Vikes Forever!), but if we could scrape together a buck and a half between us, we could buy a pint of beans, some fresh tortillas, and a couple of sodas and eat our fill. If we had more coin, we'd splurge on some tacos and tortas, and maybe a concha or two. Prices have gone up since 1978 - what hasn't? - but the quality is still there. So is the friendly service. The Solorio family has a good thing going, and they do it well. I hope they continue to thrive and serve Stockton with pride. Pro tip: The pastries stuffed with cheese and jalapeños: Oh yeah. 'Nuff said.

Debra I.

Yelp
Everything is still the same! I've been going here since I was in high school 30 years ago! Same owners and same delicious carnitas & homemade tortillas! Whenever we have a craving we always make sure to our our combination burritos, their pastries & tamales!

Jack G.

Yelp
I love El Dorado market because they have some of the best local Mexican foods to offer. Also they are know for being a source of items like foods and spices as well as being in the center of Stockton's grocery stores and Mexican good. I would highly recommend this market and their Mexican food as well.

Carl A.

Yelp
Employees there are rude and disoriented Or lazy Don't answer phone i walked a minute later Both sitting there talking no one in line Used to be the go to quick stop now Crap service Too bad been coming here for years

Micheal R.

Yelp
First and last time coming to this place . Customer service was horrible had other people in line complaining about the wait . The cashiers just kept gossiping while people were waiting to get helped

Sam S.

Yelp
I always liked going here for tamales, but it always made my wife & Kids feel scared because they felt the neighborhood wasn't the best. But we never had a problem. we haven't been there in years and I haven't found any tamales as good as theirs, all the food I bought there was the best! I-Think I'm going to have to check it out soon!

Eduardo E.

Yelp
Place has good burritos but cooks who work in the back need to get their act together. They too slow at cooking .

Daniel A.

Yelp
Amazing. Great food and staff. Always recommend. Chili Colorado is my favorite. Always busy

Danielle J.

Yelp
2/25/2020 - This was my first time at this market. It is well stocked, but what got me was the prices for the food. My friend purchased two burritos & two sodas and it totaled $12.00, I was in shock!!!! I asked him how did he find out about this place and he said that a friend brought him here many, many years ago. Getting back to the food, I didn't know what to expect, but the cashier asked me if I wanted jalepenos in it, and I said yes! I was thinking that it would have more bells & whistles in it other then just tortilla, meat, beans & the jalapeño. It was still good & I found out that you can add whatever you like in for a small fee. I heard that they are famous for their tamales.

Damaris F.

Yelp
Best service, fresh and has most of my Mexican food desires! Main things I order here are the carnitas (all meat), beef colorado, beans, rice and tortillas! Both their flour and corn are excellent. The chorizo burritos and colorado burritos are delicious, they come with a slice of jalapeño in them so if you don't like spicy be sure to remove it. Tamales are hit or miss. Masa for tamales is good, sometimes a little grainy. Pan dulces are good too but not the best variety in town. Call ahead and they'll have your order ready fairly quickly.

Tay N.

Yelp
I have only gotten the tamales from here and I must say they are full of meat. They are steaming hot and doesn't taste like lard. The people here are super nice and very pleasant

Serena J.

Yelp
Their tortillas are not the same. They're thick and flavorless. Do not heat up well. Def not like their old recipe! The beans were runny yesterday and barely any flavor. Not sure I'll be back for these items anytime soon.

Dominic D.

Yelp
Today I finally pulled up to the El Dorado Market in Stockton. I have had the tamales many years ago my grandfather used to stop in there to buy a dozen to take home back in the day for us to eat on weekends when we would visit. However I have never went there myself. So today me and the family took a trip to Stockton just to go here! The food is amazing. I ordered the carnitas burrito talk about good!! We ordered a dozen tamales to go, half chicken half pork. Before we left I had to try the burrito in the car, I woofed it down so fast I had to go back in and get two more for the road to take back home lmao!! If you're looking for some great burritos and tamales and more this is your go to place when in and around Stockton. I will definitely be back soon!

Jonte M.

Yelp
This is My Go to Spot if you're from the Area & remember when Arroyos was Downtown=El Dorado Market got that Taste Homemade Tortillas & The Chili Colorado is my Staple (Prices are on point too)

Lenai S.

Yelp
Best crunchy carnita tacos ever!! The original taco they only had many years ago and the tamales are delish!! Wish they still had their peanut butter cookies....
