The Best Soups in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Over in Pasadena, local favorite El Dorado Pollos A La Brasa makes a mean aguadito. It’s an herby Peruvian chicken soup packed with cilantro, peas, carrots, rice, and a broth that’s brimming — literally — with flavor. Wooden picnic tables are available for seating both inside and outside of the restaurant, or grab an order of soup, ceviche, and glistening roasted chicken wings to go." - Rebecca Roland

This is the second time I came to this place for lomo saltado. There is a small parking lot, and street parking is also available. Staff was friendly, and kind. They offer customers with free bottle water and hot coffee. The decoration was very clean and minimal. There are a few tables indoor and some tables in the patio. The food was freshly made, so we waited for a while. They offered 3 dipping sauce. I remember the yellow one is my favorite. The pink and green ones were too spicy to me. The meat was very tender, and not overcooked. The dipping sauce and the meat were the perfect combination. I also dipped the fries with the dipping sauce. This is how much I love it. Will come back for more lomo saltado.

Google
The pollo saltado was great. I'll have to come back to try the pollo a la brasa. The chicken was very tender. The aji verde sauce had a spicy kick to it. The fries, tomatoes and onions added very well to the flavor and the rice absorbed all of it..the staff was super nice and cleaned out tables when needed. Theres free coffee and water which was such a nice amenity. The outdoor patio and indoor seating was such a nice choice to pick from. We also got the shrimp ceviche which was also excellent and a very dog friendly patio area.

Been here twice now. This place dosen't disappoint Every dish is good. And the green sauce is fire 🔥

Google
Grade B- (80): Food was sub par, their service is good and they try hard but the flavors and textures are a bit lacking. Salchipapa (Fries were good but hot dog pretty bad maybe overcooked!) The Lomo Saltado, meat was not good, it was very tough, just didn't work for me. The Ceviche was excellent, loved it. The fried Chicken that we waited 30 minutes for was a bit disappointing, not a fan. Anyway, it was ok but will not be going back anytime soon.

Google
I order from Uber Eats, but the Quinoa salad is a 10/10. If you want a summer salad, light, filling and healthy.

Google
Amazing experience, very friendly staff with lots of great suggestion. Also, free coffee. Their chicken was very tasty and their meat was tender

Aria Savadkouei

Google
Exceeded expectations in every way. The food is very seasoned beautifully, not too heavy, and clearly fresh. The service is very warm and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. Prices are reasonable. There is ample parking space. I will absolutely return and try other items on the menu.

So this wasnt my first time trying Peruvian food, and my girlfriend and I were super excited that we got recommended this place as a “must try”. Once we got there we got greeted and welcomed from the staff and everyone seemed happy to be there. Food wise: the food was AMAZING. I HIGHLY recommend the food. The ceviche was crazy, the QUALITY was definitely noticeable and they stuffed it with shrimp. The pollo was really juicy and super flavorful. Just imaging your momma or poppa making this type quality. The sauces… sheesh. I was mind blown to learn that they are all literally hand made every morning by the owners. You dont find that anywhere else. The salad and dressing was so good. Super fresh. And last but not least. The Lomo Saltado. This deserves a whole review on its own. This mixed with the green sauce is top foods in Pasadena easily. Highly highly recommend it. But, for the absolute best trio, get the ceviche, pollo, and lomo all together. The drinks were really good as well and super fresh. Coming to this restaurant will definitely be that one choice you make that you will be glad you did. The owners are awesome and super caring as well. Lovely addition to Pasadena. Pa. Look at how fresh and perfect that avocado is 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yelp
El Dorado Pollos a la Brasa delivers a delicious and authentic Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken experience. The chicken is perfectly cooked, with a crisp, flavorful skin and tender, juicy meat that is seasoned to perfection. Each bite is packed with rich, smoky flavors, making it one of the best places for pollo a la brasa. The service is quick and friendly, making it easy to enjoy a meal whether you're dining in or taking it to go. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous, ensuring great value. If you're in the mood for flavorful rotisserie chicken or lomo saltado El Dorado Pollos a la Brasa is a fantastic choice.

Yelp
Pollos a la brasa is a Peruvian restaurant And offers the best lomo saltado I been coming here for years! I usually eat at the restaurant but this is first time Ordering to go and I was kind a disappointed because it was small portion same price and I feel like you get more when eating there. Service is okay, they are fast. They have outside sitting and inside. Love this food, super delicious sauces!!

Yelp
Food was good! Ceviche - a little too spicy but was tasty. Lomo Saltado - beef was super tender and yummy Fried rice with chiccharon - fried rice was great, but chiccharon was average.lol Soup - yummy! Don't mind going back again:)

Yelp
We drove 1hr to try this place. Not disappointed. Food was good. We ended up ordering a plate we thought we wanted but turned out different. We decided to try it, it was great. I wanted to try shrimp ceviche, later after we had ordered and sat down and waiting couple minutes I was told they had ran out. That was disappointing since I was looking forward trying the ceviche. Gave me option of my money back or order something else. I asked for my money back. So my wife and I just shared a plate. Minutes later a lady apologized and brought out shrimp with pasta. My wife and I enjoyed it. It was great. They definitely made that up for me. Only reason gave it 3 stars because a family came in with a dog. Which it wasn't a service dog. They had it on the bench and table. That threw us off, specially because we told the cashier and he said he would take care of it, but I never saw him address it to them. Food was great. Service was great.

Yelp
Known for their woodfire rotisserie chicken and overall, excellent Peruvian classics - we tried the chicken, perfection. Interesting array of sauces, service was excellent, and just the fact that I got myself a delicious steak and pasta plate for $18 in 2024 automatically elevates this joint in the top 5 restaurant experiences for the year. 5 big stars.
google avatar

Majella L.

Yelp
When we're craving lomo saltado we love this local Peruvian restaurant. It's a family favorite. The portions are just right and the flavors are on point. My personal favorite is their rotisserie chicken. It's tender and delicious. Love the fried yucca and plantains too. The service is always fast and wait time is reasonable. We usually get our order to go. But there's room to dine in too. They have a nice outdoor seating area.
google avatar

Oleg K.

Yelp
Incredible food! I discovered Peruvian food for myself there. I don't really experiment much with food, and don't really try new cuisines, but trying this place was a victory. Great food, great atmosphere and service, and a part of the local community. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go spot when I want some fire roasted chicken or Lomo Saltado. This time around I ordered a whole chicken via Uber Eats, their Aji Verde and Aji Pollero which was all fire, also ordered some tortillas but they forget to throw em in. It's all good I didn't need the carbs anyway lol. But this place is always on point the chicken is FLAME BROILED to perfection, it's tender and falls off the bone.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
I love Peruvian food so much. I really wanted fresh pescado ceviche but they only served camaron so I got it anyways and WOW I could have eaten this all to myself it was so good. Their chicken was also amazing, and it came with sauces to dip. Lomo saltado and noods were also really good but damn I'll be dreaming of that ceviche and chicken They take your order at the counter and then you grab a seat, so nothing crazy. Cute, casual spot with outdoor seating as well as indoor.
google avatar

Boj o.

Yelp
The chicken was like A5 wagyu. Just melted in my mouth. So much flavor; savory to be exact and then some. Pollo Inka was our go-to but thanks to few of my foodie friends redirected me to this place. So glad I paid a visit. My wife came along for the experience and we're both craving for good chicken and the must have Lomo Saltado. Both delivered and our tummies couldn't be any happier. The drive was worth it (coming from Simi Valley). Service was friendly and our food came out fast, hot and fresh. Inside was spacious but limited sitting area. They also have an outdoor dining area. It's a casual setting. Parking can be difficult especially on weekends. Delicious food!

Yelp
Service was great and the tallarine saltado was great. Bathroom and restaurant were clean. However, I did not like the tallarine verde con bistec because it tasted like soap. It was weird and even my husband said something was wrong with it. I just ate it with a bunch of sauces which, actually tasted good. I have had better from other restaurants so I don't recommend this particular item. Their rotisserie chicken tasted really good.
google avatar

Anthony Z.

Yelp
The food was great, the staff was incredibly nice and I'll definitely be back. The only downfall if any is that the interior is quite bland. For me this is no problem. I can see a lot of folks finding it off putting. In no way is it dirty or unkempt and i think with a few bucks it could be quite charming. If I could give 4.5 I would

Ivan P.

Yelp
Food is good. The reason I gave them a two star is because they take too long to bring your food out. In order to save time, because it is my lunch hour, I tried to place my order ahead of time. I was then told that it would be a "take out " only. I like to go to your place because I enjoy the patio area. Also I noticed that their portions got a lot smaller, last time I went I ordered lomo Saltado and my plate had considerably less meat and it was small in general.
google avatar

Yelp
This is... PERUVIAN Verified! I loved having the whole chicken and 2 sides combo! It was perfect portion for me and him. And we eat alot haha. We left so happy. Since it came with two sides, i got to pick the Yuca fries and He picked the Regular fries! both were super good but my money is always on the Yuca Fries! And ofc with the sauces it comes with, every bite is a new experience. The service was AMAZING The waiters are always super kind and patient here which makes me come back. The process from ordering and eating is so smooth thanks to these people! Esp the guy there whom i recognize! Great Guy! The Patio was so relaxing and private! Had so much room on tables and between tables that every seat felt like the best seat there. The facade on the border of the restaurant has a great tropical feel to it that compliments greatly with the scene of Pasadena. No bugs and no pests bothered us too! Very clean area! As always, I am making it a tradition to come here every friday since i have to make the route up here anyway, might as well support my fellow peruvian restaurant!

Yelp
This place is very unassuming casual spot, but dont let that fool you. The food is excellent and prices are very reasonable. We got the Chicken with pesto, Lomo Saltado, Rotisserie Chicken with a side of fried riceand the very spicy but amazing ceviche. We found this spot on IG and im so glad we gave it a try. Lomo saltado was cooked to perfection and tender, the rotisserie spices were on point and the chicken pesto was flattened perfectly. The ceviche was also amazing and very sneaky with the spice LOL. We will be back to try all the other entrees!

Yelp
We were looking for authentic Peruvian food in the area and good thing we found this place! I didn't really know what to try since I've only had Lomo Saltados at Peruvian restaurants, so I tried it here as well! It was a hugeee portion. I wasn't sure why it was so watery? A lot of Lomo saltados I had weren't this watery, so it made the rice also very watery as well. The flavor overall was pretty good though! The fries were also thick, but the beef was a bit tough. I did enjoy the sauces that they had to offer, although I would say this dish was salty enough to eat by itself. Overall, I never had this style of Lomo Saltado before so I'm glad to have tried it! My friends ordered these type of pastas that they enjoyed as well. Service was pretty attentive in such a spacious area. They have a cute outdoor seating area. They were confused about delivering orders, but they would check up on us pretty often.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this Peruvian spot in Pasadena. They have their own parking lot and service is really friendly - the staff walked through their popular items and were patient with us. There's a self order stand as well as a cashier as well. 1/2 chicken: the best chicken I've had. It's full of flavor with crispy skin. Out of all the dishes, I (as well as the staff) would recommend the chicken. Tallarin verde plate con pollo empanizado: there was a lot of creamy pesto sauce for the spaghetti. The chicken on top was very crispy and pounded very very thinly. The side of papa a la hunacaina was cold and not my favorite. I'll skip it for next time. lomo saltado: everything was seasoned really well and all the flavors were there. large fries: ordered as a nice side and I really liked how thick cut the fries were. Perfect to soak up the extra juices/sauces from the other dishes. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Food is delicious but on the saltier side so differently drink up.

Yelp
Decided to try this Peruvian place. A solid Pollo A La Brasa Place. Worth a visit. The sauces were complimentary and the chicken was moist. The green sauce was my favorite along with the pickled onions. Ordered: 1. Whole Chicken with 2 Sides 4/5: $29.58 Rice and Plantains 2. Lomo Saltado 4/5: $18.68 - Flavor was decent, enjoyed the flavor The prices are premium and the Whole Chicken was the highlight. The Smokey flavor and crispy skin.

Yelp
Truly a neighborhood gem. I'm looking forward to trying more from this found neighborhood treasure . I agree with the Yelp reviews.

Yelp
I recently discovered this chicken place in Pasadena. Delicious freshly made food. Friendly service, great prices. Highly recommend checking it out.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
Ordered the whole chicken with sides plantains and salad. We already had rice to eat it with. Overall a delicious and enjoyable meal-chicken was tender and not too salty, the plantains were sweet and hearty and the salad was substantial meaning more than just iceberg lettuce. Between the two of us, we still had leftovers for another serving. Highly recommend this place as the chicken is a good deal!
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
Food is so delicious, I ordered the steak lomo saltado. The green sauce is the perfect addition
google avatar

Franklin C.

Yelp
Love the spacious entrance which gave a warm welcoming. Parking is a little tight in the lot but it is possible during lunch rush hour. I should look carefully when I ordered but I had the half chicken with rice and beans. It was definitely flavorful and I should order different unique sides. I did get a takeout of the chicken with pasta and sure was delicious. A point dock due to the water cup had a long strand of hair but it was minor since it's a picnic sitting indoors and outdoor which I should have checked before loading water into the water cup. Otherwise staff is very attentive and checking up on the folks.

Yelp
Well it's my first time eating here August 24th 2024 on a Saturday afternoon. Came here at about 11:30 and had easy time parking. They have free parking and they have a lot of space. The restaurant was a bit small but cozy and had patio dining. We ordered the four piece chicken combo with beans and rice. And also the Papa a La Huancaina yuca. The food was good the chicken was very moist and flavorful, and the Yuka was also good specially the yellow sauce. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will come back again and try the other food on the menu. The restroom was very clean the stop was very polite and friendly. And the only thing was the order took a little bit long. So if you've not tried it go for it and give it a shot that's if you like Peruvian food. It's one of the best in LA.
google avatar

Yessica C.

Yelp
I see why this place is highly recommended some of the best food I have had in a long time. The meal was rich and flavorful. The portion size was reasonable for the price and the decor is very cute and rustic. Service was great the staff were kind and quickly served our freshly prepared meal. I had gotten to go orders before, but truly enjoyed dinning in this last time. I couldn't tell you what my favorite part was because it was all good from the thick cut fries to the perfectly cooked beef. Wow They really knocked it out of the park. I always say I want to venture out of Lomo Saltado, but it's so good that I always lean in to what I know and love here. I also tried a traditional flavor of ice cream which is not pictured, but wow that was amazing too. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone that would listen lol

Yelp
My wife wanted to eat Peruvian food, so we decided to try this spot. We picked this spot solely based on the reviews. We ordered the pollo saltado, lomo saltado, and tallarin de lomo. The employee over the phone advised me that it would be ready within 15-20 mins. We were eager to eat, when we noticed how small the portions looked along with very limited amount of protein per dish. The dishes barely had any flavors and it was such a disappointment for the price. Maybe the other dishes are fine, who knows. Our first and last time coming here.
google avatar

Erina W.

Yelp
This place was delicious! My friend and I never had Peruvian Lomo Saltado and really wanted to try something new in the neighborhood. We ordered the pesto pasta with chicken along with their lomo saltado, and both were such amazing quality and had so much flavor. The staff and service was also so great and friendly. The owner or manager was so welcoming and checked up on us multiple times. He gave us their wood fired roasted chicken to try and it was so tender and juicy - will definitely come back to order it! Turns out this place is actually 8 years old (I thought it was new) and is such a gem in the Pasadena neighborhood!
google avatar

Ruben D.

Yelp
Great food. A real hidden gem. The pollo and lomo saltado were great. Casual dinning and friendly staff.
google avatar

Dale U.

Yelp
Ordered the lomo saltado to go and it was delicious. So much so I ate it all at once Everything was good and fresh, from the fries to the rice to the beef sauce. The steak portion is generous and cooked perfectly. and the green salsa that comes with it is really good too, a little spicy. 10/10! The staff is also really nice and friendly too! I will definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
The chicken here is flavorful, the arroz chaufa is wonderful, all the dishes are great. Service is great. The staff is super friendly. The outdoor patio is wonderful and comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful Birthday Lunch guys. Gracias por las frias 54

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot with really nice people running it. ^^^ that was my review because it doesn't need to be much more but Yelp wants more than 85 characters, so whatever. This place is super good. I am very happy it is in my neighborhood. The people who work here are super nice to me and my wife. This is a good family place.
google avatar

Jasmine K.

Yelp
Love the lomo saltado here! The sauces are amazing especially the green spicy one. I loved the thick fries and how it absorbs the sauce without making it too soggy. My fave Peruvian place here in Pasadena
google avatar

ANGELA S.

Yelp
Great Peruvian food in Pasadena!! We also took a whole chicken combo to go on way out. Foods were so good, fresh ingredients, great flavors. In my opinion, this place is better than Mario's on Melrose. So clean, and service was excellent. Our server was very friendly and kind. Felt very welcomed. My first choice to go for Peruvian in Pasadena/ Glendale area. Even my own pics made me drool just a bit. Heehee
google avatar

Lily L.

Yelp
Was excited to Peruvian food but this place was a big miss. Hoping they were having a bad day since most reviews seem positive. Everything, especially the lomo saltado, was extremely salty. The chicken cutlet that came with pasta was very dry. Honestly the best thing was the yucca fries.
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
We got the lomo saltado and it was delicious. The food came out quickly. The staff was friendly. We were able to meet the owner, Jonah. He is a great guy. Overall very good experience. I would recommend eating the lomo saltado there. If you take it back home, the fries might get soggy by the time you get home. It is so good fresh

Marilynn R.

Yelp
Got the wrong order but this is good too!!! Just as tasty ! I had originally gotten a steak bowl which didn't have fries and had yummy Peruvian beans and green onions. This one is is Steak , with rice and fries. Missing the beans
google avatar

Felipe G.

Yelp
Dang Peruvian food is tasty! I ordered the Lomo Saltado plate. It came with French fries and a side of rice. So good. The flavor was incredible. The portion was also very generous too. I was pleasantly surprised that they had some good brews available. I ordered a Cristal to pair with my meal. The gentleman who took my order, Peter was so friendly and helpful walking me though his favorites on the menu. He was very attentive coming out to check on me frequently. My food came out quick. I'd say about 5-7minutes or so. Peter brought out some dressings to go with my meal and they were both so good. The creamy one was my personal favorite but the green one had a nice little kick too. The ambience was very cool. Clean modern and minimalist design and decor. The place was clean and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their restaurant. The outside patio was really nice. There were tv's throughout the place so you can catch Sunday football with you meal. I was very happy with my experience here. I will soon be back to try more of the menu!
google avatar

Keilab A.

Yelp
I've been on a Peruvian food kick recently and saw this spot in Pasadena. I got the tallarin saltado and 1/4 chicken with rice and salad. Tallarin Saltado: My go-to order- stir-fried pesto noodles and sirloin steak. Delicious and satisfying. 1/4 chicken: The most flavorful, tender, and moist chicken. The meat was delicious and the side of sauces paired deliciously with the chicken and rice. Also, the garden side salad is refreshing and the sweet vinaigrette it comes with is incredible. I definitely recommend this spot and will be back again. If you are curious about Peruvian cuisine, you won't be disappointed by El Dorado.
google avatar

Judevasily S.

Yelp
Heard from a coworker this is the spot to get some authentic Peruvian chicken. He wasn't lying that's one flavor bomb really juicy Whole Chicken. I will definitely come back and bring my whole family there. I did call for take out since I'm in a rush to go home the place is nice and the service was straight forward good. Hope y'all got high chairs for dine in I got three lil girls will mos def comeback with my whole family. I forgot to mention the green sauce is mmmm good .

Yelp
A Pasadena gem that is a must-try! The staff was incredibly welcoming, kind and attentive. The spot itself is on the smaller side, but is very cute with ample parking in the lot adjacent to it. The food - - Lomo Saltado: A classic Peruvian banger. The steak was cooked perfectly and the dish itself was very filling. The side sauces + pickled onion side was everything. 18 ounces of the green sauce, please. - Peruvian Style Fried Rice: Very good - can't ever go wrong with fried rice. I did not add protein but would recommend doing so if this is the only dish you get. - Garden Salad: Pretty standard. This was me injecting health into my diet. Love this spot - definitely a local, small business to be praised and supported.

Yelp
Service is excellent. Staff was very helpful. Helped us to pick out gluten free food. Food was great.

Yelp
About a week ago, we placed a phone order @ 6:00 pm - the gal that answered the phone and who took our order, clearly stated that our order would be ready in 30 minutes - since we were running late, because we had caught a little bit of traffic, because we are not from the area, we TRIED calling the restaurant 15 minutes prior to their "closing" hours to let them know we were running late, and NO ONE picked up the phone - (mind you, we attempted to call 5 times), and still no answer - we arrived at the restaurant at 7:11 pm, 11 minutes after they had closed - my son knocked on the door and the "OWNER" himself answered the door, and turned my son away, he told my son they had tossed the food away - We drove for an hour and a half to get to this restaurant and when I got off the car, the owner himself asked me if "I had expected for them to wait for me"? I was amazed as to how the owner did NOT "taste his words before spitting them out" on me - he did NOT care to accommodate our needs since I'm assuming his business is "booming" and did NOT care to lose a sale let alone a customer - He has lost a customer, and we will NO longer go back to this restaurant! My message to the owner is the following: Remember that word of mouth is what keeps all in businesses, in business!
google avatar

Cesar C.

Yelp
Worth the wait! Tip: Call ahead to ask if they have chicken (anything); it's soooo good that it runs out fast! They have a nice outdoor space that's comfy for dining in.

Yelp
The Food 5 Stars Service 5 Stars Ambiance 5 Stars Once we walked in we received the warmest and upbeat service!! We ordered the Steak Lomo Saltaldo and 1/4 chicken plate! I have to say you HAVE to try their Chicken it's AMAZING!! I'm still thinking about how seasoned and perfectly crusted was the skin. It's perfection. We sat outside under a warm heater watching the big screen with football. Such a quaint perfect spot to eat fresh and flavorful food with caring service. If I'm in the area I'll be back! Thanks YELP you got this one RIGHT!!
google avatar

Miguel L.

Yelp
Although a bit pricey their food is delicious and you get great portions. They have a nice outside patio to dine Al fresco. I wanted to try their desserts but they had sold out. I recommend the Lomo Saltado. Customer service is excellent and very friendly. Parking is a bit limited.

Narbeh G.

Yelp
If you want good Peruvian food this is the best spot. Amazing rotisserie chicken, great friendly service. Family run business. We got there almost twice a week.
google avatar

Louis C.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of pollo a la brasa and usually travel all the way to Ktown to my favorite place. But it's sometimes too much of a hassle so I was glad there is another Peruvian roast chicken place in Pasadena. The chicken at El Dorado is also wood fire roasted with ample herbs and spices. The skin was crispy albeit the breast was a little less moist than Pollo a la Brasa Western. The salad was decent with a honey citrus dressing. The fried plantain was delicious with just enough sweetness and a slight potato like texture. The quinoa salad was made with a lime dressing with cucumbers, pearl tomatoes, plus red and green bell peppers. Light but fulfilling. Western is still my favorite place; but, El Dorado is definitely a good substitute without a long drive.
google avatar

Wayne G.

Yelp
One of my good friends rolled with my to a hobby shop in Pasadena. While out there he asked if I wanted to have lunch and he wanted to show me El Dorado Pollos a la Brasa. This is a place that he would go to often during his work lunch breaks. This establishment is a nice small spot with great food. When people hear about Peruvian food they automatically think Saltado. I think about tallarine verde. Both great dishes and this place delivers! There isn't too many seats here so I would avoid the lunch rush if dining in or just do take out. I can't wait for my next visit! Parking: small private lot, neighborhood parking VERDICT: Rinse and repeat

Yelp
Mom said, "this food reminds me of my childhood' The chicken and chicha morada was crazy delicious ! The soup was very yummy - i highly recommend you add the onions Seeing mom's smile as she took a spoon-full of the rice and beans made my day. Very tasty and well-seasoned Their quinoa topped with avocados was nice; you can also add a protein. I can't believe i didn't know this place existed Great food Excellent service Clean environment 6 stars ...oh, full disclosure: my wife found this place and wanted the world to know that SHE found this gem
