"This week, El Famoso will bring retro vibes and Mexican cuisine inspired by Southern California to Irving. The 1,900-square-foot restaurant at 5228 N. O'Connor Blvd will throw open the doors this Friday with its vintage feel and a menu of Cali-Mex, Tex-Mex, and American classics. Charlie Green of Olivella’s envisioned the concept when he traveled Southern California in search of the perfect Mexican street food. In his travels, Green visited the state’s barely-surviving midcentury diners, and wanted to revive that aesthetic in DFW. The menu will feature enchiladas, quesadillas, chile relleno, and of course tacos in several varieties including a “Tex-Mexicali” category, in addition to traditional American fare like hamburgers and sloppy joes. Breakfast tacos and burritos are available on weekends. There’s a solid cocktail menu of south-of-the-border-inspired drinks like pineapple with cucumber vodka and basil, watermelon daiquiris, and the requisite handful of margarita options along with beer and wine. “Our guests will be transported to a time and place through the food offering, décor, and festive atmosphere,” Green said in a statement. “And like those first Mexican diners that have survived, we have captured the evolution of this iconic eatery in a diverse menu.” Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, until 1 a.m.; Breakfast is available until 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday." - Alaena Hostetter

Waiter was a bit all over the place and rather odd. Food was served relatively close to how we ordered it. Think I got quite the headache from 2 house margaritas so be careful. Maybe ask for better tequila. Nice decor and location.

Strike one-no Heineken (its on the menu) Strike 2- salsa weak and no heat. Queso a little thin, but tasty and chips good. Enchiladas better than average. Chicken Suiza very tasty. Excellent rice, beans meh. Plus 1-great atmosphere and view/surroundings. Plus-5-Fantastic service from greeting to bartender, to server Jaime! Start to finish treated me great. Excellent music....more Salsa, less stereotype Mexican. Prices very reasonable for urban setting. Yes, there’s better, but many more worse. Its still new...I feel like theyre trying. It wont replace my favorite Mexican place but its local and feels fun. I will recommend it and come back!!!

I'm from Guadalajara Mexico and I love tacos so much! So I invited my husband to try this new place in town this past Wednesday. The place is nicely decorated, we went during lunch time, and service was great! I ordered the "queso flameado" which is fired cheese with chorizo meat in it I appreciated the fact the cheese was authentic, and tasty. It comes with poco guacamole and a few corn tortillas. My husband ordered the "Cheese Fries" which come with "asada" (steak) meat. The plates are a bit small, but had a good taste. I also ordered a "carnitas" taco which honestly I didn't like, and I consider a bit expensive at $2.75 the tortilla (corn) was very artificial, but I spoke to one of the managers who approached ourvtsble, and he said they're still improving. They let us try a sample of their hibiscus margarita which was awesome! But the cherry on the cake was their homemade "coconut icecream" very tasty and flavorful! Thumbs up on that. They offer indoor sitting as well as a patio area.

DELICIOUS FOOD, and Great Service!! They give you free chips, and fresh made salsa "its very good"... We ordered The El Monstro....WOW, it was big enough for my wife and to share plus we took 1/4 of it home !!!! Look at the last 2 pics !!! A HUGE 14" BURRITO with different meats inside, covered with queso ... We got our food with 15 minutes of ordering. A cozy place , with spanish music playing .Very clean restaurant with clean restrooms...Great decor :) On Tuesday they offer $2.00 street tacos .....SEE YOU THERE 🤓🤓🤓

The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a great vibe to it! The food is not great but good! The staff and manger were all friendly. They also have $2 margarita Tuesdays, which is a plus!

UPDATE 02/24/19: This place is just not good. It's unreal. I keep trying to like it but I'm never going back. $20 for this??? It's ridiculous. This place I'm done with. I just don't have words Org: The owner reached out about my bad review and was super nice. He really does care. I went back and tried the messy Nachos, carnitas burrito and street taco. All we really good. I'll for sure go back. The service was always very good. Everyone was nice and helpful. Appreciate a place that really cares and I could see they had made some really good changes.

Best street tacos! So good I went back twice in one day and have visited 4 times in 3 days. Our server (Margarito) was amazing and so attentive, he is great and learned our preferences quickly. If I was a local, I'd be here all the time!

Not a bad place to grab a snack and drinks. Would have given the place 5 stars, but I cant say the food was all that impressive. Service was great and drink specials were awesome!
