El Farolito Review - Hipódromo - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"El Farolito is the most convenient taco joint you’ll find in the city, considering there are 24 of them and they’re all open very late. The tacos al pastor are great and you should also order a chicharron de queso - basically a crispy piece of cheese. Eat as many tacos as you can and try every sauce available. Then wash it all down with a horchata." - Natalie Cohen

Google
This is my new go to spot when I’m craving authentic Mexican tacos. The staff is nice. The restaurant is clean. The prices are decent. The food is delicious. Margaritas great. Try it out.

Have only had take out from this place. So far they have never got the order correct. They always read the order back but evidently forget to write some of the things down that they read back. Not sure how that can happen. The latest was today when they basically took the position of “oh well, I may have repeated it to you but I didn’t write it down and didn’t charge for it so no problem”. Except I do have a problem making 2 trips and then being met with indifference at best. There are more places to get Tex-Mex around and have not had this issue at any others.

Excellent veggie fajitas loaded with onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, squash and spinach! Salsa has good flavor too. What made it even better was the exceptional customer service. Very friendly, prompt, not rushed, and the entire works together that make sure no customer is in need of anything. First time here, and we’ll definitely be back!

The best thing about this place was their chips. The food was a very bland and underseasoned. Atmosphere seems like your typical tex mex restaurant. Service was not bad either. I wouldnt go back, the food is not worth the money we paid for it. $55 for a family of 4 which is what we typically spend going out, but for bad food, it's not worth it.

Google
A favorite. I've tried the chalupas, tostadas, hundreds of tacos, enchiladas. The tortilla chips are always freshly made, and the guacamole and sides are great. Friendly staff. The place feels like home to me. If good Tex-Mex is your thing, El Farolito is worth a try!

Google
I liked the atmosphere and service was excellent. The food was not for me. I won’t be back because I didn’t care for the way they cook their beans( whipped bean juice?), unflavored rice and the enchiladas were ok however I’ve had better. Sorry for the review because they are very nice people!

Google
Cute little restaurant. The service was not good though. Ive been here multiple times and today is the day im done with this restaurant. Had a feeling that you were being ignored while the service was attentive to local patrons and they tend to ignore or being less attentive to non local and immigrant population especially from Asia.

Google
The staff was very attentive and kind! That made sure we knew exactly what we were ordering. Each dish did not miss!! We each got a great big ol goblet of margs to go with our queso flamado (on fire!!!) So cool we forgot to take a pic! The main dishes were very generous and very delicious. Drinks said full and so did the restaurant! A must visit💚

Yelp
This place is amazing, I love the food and taco Tuesday is a must. The service is great and everyone is nice. Definitely going back!

Yelp
TLDR great food, but service can be improved. Got takeout. Small flautas appetizer (chicken/beef rolled in tortilla, then fried) was good - esp with guac - but probably not worth $7, since each of the 6 rolls is only 1-2 bites. Maybe the large size is more worth it. Beef and chicken enchiladas (#3) were great. Maybe could do with one more element, like tomatoes or something. But enchilada+rice is still solid. Honey sopapilla was delicious, and not even a full dollar on the menu! This place is really affordable, but I'm pretty sure they overcharged me? I got an appetizer, entree, dessert, and drink, and it should have been $20 max, but I paid $25 before tip. They also said the food would take 5-10 minutes, but it was more like 20.

Yelp
The bathroom is not severely locked and I got walked in on. Food is good though so I would recommend eating and going to use the restroom.

Yelp
Have been enjoying this place since moving back to the area in 2015. Fajitas are solid and the steak torta is phenomenal. Service is always great!

Irasema R.

Yelp
Queso flameado and fajita nachos were a great start. Fajitas are delicious with all the fixings - we had chicken, beef and mixed. Service is always amazing. We come once a week.

Yelp
We ate here tonight and it was amazing! The hot salsa was actually hot and flavorful, the queso was perfect, and the steak and chicken were the best I've ever had out at a restaurant. My husband had the steak fajitas and I had the Pechuga Monterrey. Both were superb!! My father in law was impressed/surprised with the tenderness of the steak. It was more food than we needed. Pkk okenty left for lunch tomorrow. The kids were all satisfied with their kid menu options as well. The servers were very attentive and brought us everything we asked for promptly. We will definitely be coming back. Signed, a Texan girl who has major opinions on how to properly prepare Mexican food.

Yelp
I am kinda of a regular so I maybe a little partial. The staff is always pleasant and you are welcomed as you walk in. Miss Patty is the Hostess/ Cashier and will greet you w her beautiful smile. You are quickly seated and fresh chips and salsa magically appear on the table. Everything is good here but I especially like the street tacos w tomatillo hot sauce! The fajitas are always a good choice also. Margaritas are fresh and refreshing.

Riley A.

Yelp
The food itself is fine, maybe below average. I liked my fajitas, though. But the flaming queso is not what we assumed. It's chorizo and cheese in tortillas. Should have a better description. The service was slow. They assumed we wanted mild salsa and we had to ask 4 times to have hot salsa (much better than the mild tomato sauce). The pre bussing could be better. We noticed other customers had the same problem even as it slowed. Some items, like the rice and beans, were bland.

Kyle M.

Yelp
El Farolito is my favorite Mexican place! The food, margaritas, service, chips and salsa are all great!! The prices and value are good. (Usually) They are not stingy with their chips and salsa, which is hugely important. And their salsa is great! I'm leaving 5 stars because they are that good overall. However, if they routinely served tacos like the ones pictured I'd feel completely different. I didn't want to complain to them , but hopefully next time I order tacos they won't be mostly void of fillings! These had very little meat and stuffing.

Yelp
First time here. Located off Hwy102 in a strip mall in Centerton. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant with murals and wood furniture reflecting scenes of Old Mexico. Food is Tex-Mex. Complimentary Chips and salsa. Staff friendly and efficient. Clean restaurant. Prices reasonable. Portions are adequate. We ordered enchiladas and tacos. White cheese sauce on the enchiladas. Both flavorful.

Jason H.

Yelp
Food is fantastic. Very reasonably priced. Margaritas are the only negative. Taco Tuesdays are great! 99 cent tacos are hard to beat!

Michelle P.

Yelp
Had high hopes for our first time getting take out. The restaurant smelled really good one day when I walked in there to get the menu. Have to say it was a $50 disappointment. Shrimp quesadilla was nothing to write home about. Undercooked boring. The beef and chicken fajitas were decent. The beef taco I got for my kid was good but they don't take the time to fill it up it's just the most minuscule amount of meat lettuce and tomato. And ordered the child's plate and they charged me for three beef tacos and rice plate. But I think this was an honest mistake even though I said kids plate could be an easy mistake while taking a phone order. But the biggest reason for my disappointment was their mild salsa tasted like tomato paste. The hot was a little bit better.. but my gosh how much tomato paste does a salsa need? Answer zero point zero.

Yelp
Ordered food to go. Steak was like leather. One of the burritos was sub par. Wont order again.
google avatar

Bettie M.

Yelp
Food is great and pricing can't be beat! We get take-out, delivery and eat in on a regular basis and it's always good food for good value!

Yelp
They offer 2 types of salsa, really good, and the white melted cheese came out thick and hot. Food is always good. Always full when we come to eat here.

Yelp
This is your typical local Tex-mex style restaurant. Atmosphere is good and prices were very fair. Each staff encountered was pleasant. It's a great place to grab a quick affordable bite and the taste was there. Torta was my favorite. The only have one size margarita so be sure that's what you want. Lol it was also good but a little too sweet.

Yelp
Best Tex mex I've had in a year or two, highly recommended. I love it and hope you will two! I very much recommend the queso dip :)

John S.

Yelp
We normally order from another Mexican restaurant close by, but couldn't get through on their phone line so tried El Farolito. The shrimp quesadilla was outstanding. Very flavorful with plenty of shrimp. Also really enjoyed the hot salsa. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Holy cow! The best Tex-Mex restaurant outside of Texas... and I have looked everywhere! Loved the place the first time I went... and every time afterward. The food is great, the selections are numerous, the staff is excellent!

Steve B.

Yelp
I read the reviews and decided to try "Taco Tuesday" at El Farolito. I really like Mexican food and went with great hopes for a new place to get my "fix". The place looks like a classic Mexican food restaurant with walls covered in murals, a tv on the wall, and musica playing in the background. I was promptly seated, asked if I'd like chips and mild salsa? I asked for the spicy. I went with the hard shell chicken tacos and the bean and cheese nachos. After all, it was taco Tuesday. My order came out quickly. I must admit, I'm used to a pile of chips, layered with beans, cheese, jalapeños, maybe some black olives, sour cream...... This was a different experience. About 9 tortilla chips circled the plate. Each chip had a dollop of refried beans, and melted cheddar cheese. The 9 chips circled around a small portion of shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. The beans were the same consistency and flavor of canned refried beans. The chicken tacos were hard shell with a very bland shredded chicken, chopped lettuce and diced tomatoes. All in all, the most American, homogenized Tex/Mex food I have ever tasted. The place was clean, the service was good. The food was non-commital. If you think of Taco Bell as a daring, spicy adventure for your taste buds and want to dial it back a bit, this is the place you'll want to go.

Yelp
The restaurant is a little run down looking from the outside, but don't be fooled, you can find a decent burrito or taco at this place. The food comes out quickly and has always been hot for us. The service is decent. The restaurant has several booths and some tables in between. This is one of the few restaurants in centerton and they are usually full during the week at dinner time. The only downfall is they do not serve alcohol and I enjoy a margarita with dinner from time to time.

Yelp
Northwest Arkansas is scattered with these low-cost Mexican joints and most of them are fair to mediocre. El Farolito, which is Spanish for "lantern" - is a better one. My daughter chose the chimichanga, which she detailed as well stuffed and a good size. I had the carne asada which was a decent slice of grilled steak that had only a small bit of gristle to it but was otherwise nice. With rice and beans and a few flour tortillas, it was a good filling meal. Salsa was a bit more wet than I prefer but was not too hot either. That was a meh. Overall, El Farolito was A-OK!

Al S.

Yelp
We just moved to Centerton and were happy to find El Farolito within a few blocks of our home. The staff was super friendly, service was great, food was very good. I had the combination dinner and enjoyed every item. Prices are more than fair. We'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Taco Tuesday you can never go wrong... We usually dine in but today we called for a take out order. Regardless if eating in house or to go... Our tacos were delicious! I was able to call and a pleasant voice took my order. It was ready in less than 10 minutes. Superb! I can't wait for next Tuesday;)
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
I enjoyed lunch here two days ago when visiting NW Arkansas and was very impressed. The place was packed at lunch time, but we got seated immediately. Chips and salsa were very good, the chips tasted fresh and home made. I had an order of four carne Asada tacos which were delicious, just like they would be South of the boarder. Great service, better Mexican food than average (at least the tacos were) and the price was very affordable! I walked out feeling very pleased with our choice. They also had a wonderful habanero taco sauce that most authentic Mexican places do have for tacos, but I don't see it very often!

Yelp
This spot is easy to miss as it's tucked in a shopping strip between a law office and an empty store front, but it's a great place to grab lunch. The prices are reasonable, the service is good, and the food is delicious. My favorite is the #24.
google avatar

Cherie D.

Yelp
Their carne asada was seasoned to perfection. Guacamole was good. Their hot salsa was medium at best and needs a lot more cilantro in it for me to be excited about. Did I mention the carne asada was awesome? :)
google avatar

Nikki P.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! We love their carne Asada tacos and burrito de Asada with queso!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
I LOVE their food. Good quality Tex-Mex. Reasonable prices and a lot of food for the price. Fajitas and chimichanga are wonderful. I loved having the guacamole made table side...fresh, wonderful flavors. In an area with many Tex-Mex restaurants this one stands out above the others.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
Delicious! The Mexican rice is fantastic! Tamales are a little small, but are very good. Will be back.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
My husband and I eat here pretty often. He loves the chicken chimichanga. I get a variety of things, but I think the pork carnitas are my favorite. The salsa is good.
google avatar

Matthew G.

Yelp
Excellent food! Best ground beef enchiladas! Tamales fabulous too! Will most definitely stop here on my next trip to Marfa.
google avatar

Sheldon S.

Yelp
Not bad. Same tex Mex you can get anywhere. Service is so slow. Open till 9 and that's a big deal in Centerton.
google avatar

Jeremy F.

Yelp
We're in from Kansas and found this place on Yelp. The food was good but the service lacked a little. We were happy to hear they had white cheese queso and it was very good as well. The food cane out fast and as stated before, was quite good. Even my super picky daughter liked her burrito. We'll come back next time we are in town.
google avatar

Mimi G.

Yelp
The Little Lantern. Good food. Real salsa with authentic flavor. Nice employees. Great prices.
google avatar

Don T.

Yelp
One star is being generous , trust me this is not the place you want to eat. Very dirty with no service! We sat for an hour waiting on food as so did the other two tables. Most walked out due to time. Even two deputy's walked out saying they got a call and went next door to another restaurant . They should just stick with the grocery store part of it.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
The food is good but it can be very inconsistent, from salt level to seasoning to ingredients depending on when you visit.

Mellisa H.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Salsa lacked flavor and tasted like plain tomato sauce. Taco salad was smothered in liquid orange cheese reminiscent of high school cafeteria taco salad days. Street tacos were dry and bland. Service was good and staff was very nice. The server noted that I didn't eat very much of the salad and asked how it was. I politely told her there was too much cheese and that I didn't care for it. Unfortunately, I was charged for it anyway. Understandable but not the best customer satisfaction move.

Yelp
We recently moved into the area and we love El Farolito. The food is delicious and fresh. The Carne Asada Tacos are to die for!!! They have so much flavor and the fresh cilantro on top.... YUMMY!! The service is great and staff is very friendly. We love them so much that we have ordered carne asada tacos to go for a party we had recently - so worth it!! The salsa tastes fresh and delicious, especially with the warm tortilla chips. Guacamole is very good as well. My father-in-law (a very picky Mexican food eater) raved about his meal - he ordered the chile rellenos. Would highly recommend!! Please do not confuse this with the other Mexican restaurant in the shopping center (it has a grocery attached). This one is in the middle of the shopping center with a green sign!! You won't be sorry!!!

John C.

Yelp
This is the best Mexican food I have found in the NWA area. Moving here from the Dallas area I have been disappointed as I have tried many others.

Greg H.

Yelp
Great food and service. Good value for the money. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. I eat here at least a couple times a month.

Adriana G.

Yelp
We have been there only 4 times and every time we 've had excellent service its very clean and very good tasting food , the only bad thing I would say its expensive specially the tacos they re the smallest tacos I 've seen for the money, two bite tacos for 2.50 The worst would be the Salsa it doesn't taste like home made but for the chips is good The best would be the shrimp Cocktail its really good and the Carne asada its just yummy but just be advise portions on meat are small (they do a very good job covering the whole plate with rice and beans)

Michael P.

Yelp
Love the carne asada tacos as well as the combo fajitas. The salsa is delicious as well.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Service is amazing. We have eaten at many Mexican restaurants but this one is the best by far. We eat here once or twice a week and the employees are very personable and friendly. They recommend food to us and we have yet to be disappointed by anything. Food is always hot and delicious. Our kids LOVE the rice! The salsa is the best. I don't typically enjoy salsa but this place is the exception. I LOVE it. You can't beat the prices for the food or the quality and quantity of food either. Best restaurant ever.
google avatar

Carrie W.

Yelp
Loved this place. Chips and salsa was on point. Queso dip was great. Had enchiladas and tamales. Loved them both. I'll be coming back regularly.
google avatar

Tom W.

Yelp
Great Tex-Mex food! Lunch specials are awesome and all very reasonably priced. Same basic menu as about all of the other Tex-Mex spots but this one tastes so much better than the others. Quick service and friendly staff.
google avatar

TrustMe E.

Yelp
I'm from California. This means I have grown up with the smells of authentic Mexico wafting over the border and into my heart since I was but a small child. I have traversed North America, and have partaken of much of its poor excuse for Mexican food. Imagine my surprise when I was invited out to eat at, El Farolito, and sank my teeth into carne asada tacos that rivaled those found on the streets of Los Angeles! They bring you carafes of salsa. They bring you endless homemade tortilla chips. They bring you joy.

Toby M.

Yelp
This is our go to Mexican restaurant! Everything we have had is outstanding! We will continue to come here!! Best in NWA!!!!
google avatar

April W.

Yelp
This place was a great find. It was hard to decide because it is in a shopping center w/ another Mexican restaurant- but we decided to go w/ the one that had all the cars in front. The carne asada tacos were wonderful and the "hot" sauce was so yummy and flavorful. What a great find!
