"As one of the most popular taquerias in Playa del Carmen, you will find a busy dining room at almost all hours of the day. No matter, the grill works fast, creating plumes of smoke to sear meats just shaved off the spinning trompo. The menu is endless but most just stick to the simple pleasures of an honest taco spiked with tableside salsas." - Michelin Inspector

Food here was a joke & our server who i never got the name of was also brilliant. We was recommend here by locals & there were also only locals in here. The food was so tasty even though it didn't look great it tasted fantastic. The price paid was great too & we ended up paying less than £20 per person. Considering I had two drinks as seen by the size I think that's good going. I would be careful ordering a taco dish though as that's the price paid for one, so make sure you order a few! The potatoes dish is a jacket potato loaded. So don't expect loaded fries. Definitely recommend eating local cuisine here. & continues to hit my opinion, if it looks bad from the outside, it never is, it's probably better than the shiny looking place.

We were hungry and tired from a day exploring and were surprised to see this place hopping at 10 on a Monday night. It's really a fun place with live music, but it was a bit loud and hot. No AC and not enough fans. The food was okay. Not as great as we expected given the crowds and cost. The service was slow. I'd go back if I was just with friends and looking for a lively place to dine.

Google
Amazing food , good ambience , if you are looking for authentic taquieria experience. This is it in playa del Carmen, a bit away from the walking street Avenida 15. But not too far . Highly recommend, good prices. Ordered more than we could finish as the food was so delicious.

Google
My wife and I originally came to this location when we were visiting Mexico on our Honeymoon back in 2009. Let me tell you, the food is still as delicious as it was then, and the atmosphere was great! Service is great, and the prices are well below what you would think you might pay for the quality of the food. My wife and I ordered an appetizer, two meals, and two beers for under $30! Highly recommend El Fogon and this location!

Google
Absolutely fantastic food and service! We went for the tacos, but the star of the show ended up being the house special with porkchops and bacon. Can't recommend this place enough!

Google
This place was recommended to us by a local man, when we asked for a place that he and other local families enjoyed. We absolutely loved it. We were a party of 7 on a Friday night. There was live music starting at around 6 PM. The restaurant was full of locals - including the upstairs level. This place specializes in truly delicious pastor - pork - cooked in the manner of gyros. There is also a spit of beef, and lots of other options. We have the fajitas al pastor - which we absolutely loved. Very generous portion, which we shared among two people. It came with nopales that were amazing; and a very flavorful cup of bean soup. The plate itself had guacamole, roasted onions, a baked potato with sour cream, and lots of meat, plus eight corn tortillas. We had excellent service from Ernesto. If we were not leaving town tomorrow, we would absolutely return to this place several more times. Recommended!

We were curious about this place that had always been busy, so we tried it in our last night in Playa del Carmen. And now we get it. The flavors of the Mexican food were delicious, great, and prompt service. I ordered what was supposed to be one taco, Taco Loco, and it was huge and delicious. It is one of the best places to eat among locals. Come with an empty stomach to enjoy a delicious and flavor meal.

Google
Everything was great. I saw people wait in line for a while to get a table. Good mix of locals and tourists eating there. Tortas were very good, tacos al pastor were also very good. Their takeout is pretty quick, ordering ahead is not required. I will definitely be returning next time I'm in PDC.

Yelp
Checked out this place after being at Xcaret all day. It's poppin, tons of ppl and uppity musica. Saw great reviews on Yelp so thought I'd check it out.. Ordered: strawberry margarita & Fogon special Skirt steak "norteña", cheese and chorizo with fajitas. Wow, my food was delicious! The strawberry margarita was good/on point too. Easily the best meal I had on the trip and we were in Playa/Canun for 8 days. Hope to come back one day..
google avatar

Yelp
There was absolutely no wait time, even though they were fully packed. The service was excellent, and the food was terrific. I am mad at myself for not coming here sooner. I had this place bookmarked, and every time I said I would go, I never did--shame on myself. The kitchen is open, and you can see everything. The place was wide open. Also, I went at night, and there was a man going from tables playing the guitar. It's definitely a must-do for your trip. The taxi cab far exceeded the meal's price per person. You get a lot of food for a really good price. I would recommend going on your first and last day or at least twice during your trip to PDC.

Yelp
This is how Fogon tacos should be great food! 100% pastor by kilo! Fast fast fast service 100% Great Mexican ambiance, it is like a road house! 100%

Yelp
Food is grate place is very popular 30 to 40 min wait at peak times but well worth the wait
google avatar

Jared R.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in PDC. Huge portions, a good mix of locals and tourists and a bustling atmosphere. Margaritas as big as your head and lots of amazing platters of tacos and meat. Beer was cold, the servers were very nice, even with our limited Spanish and the food was delicious! Recommended
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
Okay no lie, these were some of the best tacos I had in Playa Del Carmen! There was a wait and a line to get in and I can see why. Everything I had was so good.
google avatar

Jazmin A.

Yelp
This place is popular for a reason. They have a lot of great options. To start, I highly recommend the queso fundido. It's nice that they have the "ordenes" where you can just get a bunch of meat and tortillas and make your own tacos. They have different types of tacos but the main kind is al pastor. They are great and the staff is very quick and attentive. The gringas were very filling, the salsas are good too and they have a lot of drink options - beer, soda, aguas frescas, and smoothies
google avatar

Soroosh P.

Yelp
Excellent, open late! Service is nice but definitely upsells the Evian water (which combined cost much more than our combo meat burrito). Everything we had tasted great and we would gladly come back. Some of the best, reasonably priced food I've eaten in this part of Mexico. Even if you're a vegetarian this place has stuff for you. Ambiance is no frills but the space is well lit, has seating and is clean.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
The tacos and service were fantastic! Service was efficient and gracious, the al pastor tacos with fresh corn tortillas are the way to go, and the beer was cold. I'm so glad we ventured away from the touristy restaurants to try El Fogón!

Yelp
This place is amazing it's suggested by the locals which i always love and is soooo cheap but the quality is better than anything you'll find in playa order anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed I went in and I just said to the kind server Intrust you I want to try a little bit of everything and all the local favorites and it was a feast!! I went back 3 more times. Sometimes it's more fun to wing it and let them choose what you get such a cute lovely spot highly recommend going off the beaten path for this and get lost exploring around

Brendy V.

Yelp
Skirt steak tacos were so good as were the beans. The chicken fajitas were a little bland.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
We are up stairs. The food was excellent. You start with a plate of lime cukes and radish. I had the special skirt steak which was served with potatoes onions tortillas Salsa very hot. It was also served with soup Food and service excellent take VISA No handrail in stair l

Yelp
Great authentic and casual taco spot. We ordered pastor, sirloin, and chorizo tacos on corn tortillas. Despite being a busy restaurant, the food came out fast. The pastor was solid with great flavor. The sirloin was solid, but a little plain compared to the pastor. The chorizo though was our favorite with a nice sweet and spicy flavor and a great char on the meat.

Steve M.

Yelp
Great food, great service, low cost and quick service. What else do you want? The skirt steak and chicken rocked. The charro beans are another standout. Add some chips, salsa and cactus and you just plain run out of room before you can get to the dessert. Time for a return trip.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
This is a second location of El Fogón The original location a few blocks east of here is a better location that makes better food, but this one is still very good. The pastor and sirloin cuts are the best by far because they come from the trompo. However, unlike the other Fogón location, this location has pretty bad tortillas. They were kinda cold, tasted bland, and were a disappointment. Go to the other location if you can, if not, this is fine.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
We only came because tik tok hyped up this place so much. I've had better Mexican food in Los Angeles. However I will say for the price it literally is unbeatable. We got a variety of places the best plate we got was the skirt steak plate which came with a guac, corn tortillas, salad, grilled onions, and a potato. The potato was NASTY. I'm not sure what they were going for but it was full of water once we bit into it- maybe ask to sub that out if y out do try the plate. The torta was pretty decent for the price. The queso fundido was not good at all- you can definitely skip that. Drinks were pretty watered down. Service was slow perhaps because we got so many dishes but overall fast. The place itself is pretty loud so be prepared to shout over each other as the establishment is pretty busy itself. There is a long wait to get in so make sure you look at the menu ahead of time so when you get seated you get your order in! Overall food was decent but definitely better establishments around the area too so check those out!

Yelp
Great spot in playa. Cheap tacos and drinks. The vibe is great and they accommodate large tables and they stay open late

Yelp
Great food, great service and wonderful breezy space to enjoy your food 10/10 would recommend!

Yelp
This place is a must go-to in PDC! This is where locals come and tourists arrive by taxi for tacos. Helps to verify this place. It's the most authentic taco experience. I have seen pictures of very long lines but we came middle of the day during the week which I think helped a lot. We were quickly seated on the outside patio area. The meat was an eye shot away. Straight staring at me. I couldn't help but had to try both spits of sirlon and pastor. Great decision. Both were great, but slight edge to the pastor for me. My wife liked the sirlon. We also ordered the el gringo tacos which were basically a pastor quesadilla. Muy delicioso! Everything was fantastic. From the fixings they give you to start, the fresh agua Fresca and cold cervezas, affordable tasty food. Simply fantastic. So glad we stopped here and would again if I was in the area.
google avatar

Lori J.

Yelp
Amazing food! I love a gringa taco and they had some great salsas to pair. My partner got a large platter with ham, potato, onion, cheese and some other fixins. It is hot since it's indoor/outdoor and with an open kitchen but so worth it. Service was super quick and very friendly, they gave us plastic cups so I could take my soda to go without the glass bottle
google avatar

Yelp
Best food in PdC. Even the line is worth it. Inconceivable that the staff can be as patient as they are.

Yelp
Took a ferry from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen for dinner. Looked at all kinds of yelp reviews and ended up here. No glitz or glamour and a few blocks from party life but it was so worth it. Meat heaven. The taco loco with cheese was bomb. The smoked pork chops, chorizo, bacon!, skirt steak, and Al pastor is so good. The bean soup I could eat daily. I could barely walk after and definitely had the meat sweats. Super cheap as well. I'd definitely hit it up again if I'm ever back.
google avatar

Yelp
We were craving tacos late one night and came across El Fogon! The place was super busy for 11pm but we were seated upstairs pretty quickly. We had a group of 8 people so that was pretty impressive. The server took our order for drinks and food. The whole table ordered horchatas. Probably the best horchata I've ever had! I ended up taking one to go when we left. I ordered one pastor taco and two steak tacos. They brought out plenty of limes, radishes and nopales for the table. We also ordered grilled onions. Everything was delicious! We ended up coming back a few days later for more.
google avatar

Rizvee H.

Yelp
After finding out about this restaurant from Michelin guide of all places, we had to try it when we visited Playa del Carmen. It wasn't too busy when we arrived. We ordered pastor, steak and chorizo tacos. All of them were amazing, especially pastor tacos which were mind-blowing!! For desert we ordered flan which was also very delicious. Not to mention, everything was super affordable. We think it is definitely worth the hype and a must visit for anyone visiting Playa del Carmen.
google avatar

Esther S.

Yelp
Really popular restaurant and relatively short wait even with a long line! Very casual and fast paced but our food took 30 min to come out. Overall, the tacos tasted ok but were much bigger than we expected. I wanted to come back and try other food but ended up not due to other options in the area. Nothing amazing but loved the live music and vibes
google avatar

Yelp
Food: Delicious tacos! Tortillas are fresh and the Al pastor is to die for. The only reason this place is not a 5 star rating is for the lack of consistency. Our first visit was great, food was delicious. The second time around though, my husband's chorizo was undercooked in his tacos. They did remake them and were so good. Service: So good. We came here twice and the server was very observant and brought condiments before we had a chance to ask for them. Ambiance: This place is a building without walls. They have ceiling fans which help with the heat. It's super relaxed and a nice little walk from the downtown area.

Yelp
A go-to spot for both locals and tourists, this spot presents an accessible spot to grab some tacos with some plastic chair seating which fit the vibe perfectly. We got some tacos al pastor which omitted pineapple but I was told by a friend that this is the first time that this happened so I won't hold it too much against them. Unfortunately we couldn't correct it at the time since we got the tacos to go but I can't imagine it's too common of an issue. Tacos came with nice crisp cucumbers, radishes, and limes and a pair of salsas. One was mild, slightly smokey vibe, kind of like a chili crisp and the other was actually packing a decent amount of heat and acidity which I'm thankful for after having found it lacking through many spots around. Pastor was reasonably well seasoned although I was still missing the flavor of charred fat that can make this type of taco great. Overall though, would definitely recommend coming by if you're in the area and are looking for a reasonably cheap snack open most hours of the day.

Yelp
First real restaurant I visited since coming to Playa del Carmen area. Luckily this place was open late so we got here around 1030 pm and it was still jammed packed. First of the don't use the map direction right off the app. Maybe it was glitchy connection at that time but led me to drive wrong way on one way street .. I ended up googling the address and got to where I needed to go. Once we made it to the place without dying. I knew food was going to be good when I see mostly locals eating here. I did park in parking lot behind the restaurant. Nice guy working the lot guided me and when asked how much for parking he will take tips when I'm done. Very friendly staff except I found out later they had English menu. Good thing waited spoke English. Ordered pastor taco, la gringa taco, and taco Loco. Waiter said taco Loco has 3 different meat.. I was about to order another taco and waiter laughed and told me to stop.. Eat what I ordered first because taco loco was pretty big.. Also ordered de arrachera which waited recommended. Waiter also recommended order of guac with chips. Firsthe brought salsa to the table with had 3 different kind. Green which he said was the spiciest, then red then pico. Guac was very yummy and salsas were pretty good. Green salsa tasted like guac and habanero.. Had pretty good kick. Red Salas also tasted yummy and pico tasted fresh. Got my pastor and la gringa tacos first. Pastor taco was very yummy, nice touch with pine apple.. I don't usually prefer fruit with my hot fish but the sweet pine apple went well together. La gringa taco I've seen food bloggers review it few times. It was pretty darn good. More like quesadila and I ended up cutting it to 4 pieces . Little messy but nice combination with cheese and other toppings inside. De arrachera came and.. Man that was yummy.. Nice grilled meat flavor with some chilli and melted cheese.. The flower tortilla was very yummy. Nice soft and chewy.. My favorite kind of flower tortilla. Then comes my taco Loco.. Ummm I don't know why it's called taco.. It's more like burrito.. It was pretty darn big.. Now I know why waiter said to wait before I ordered more. I didn't finish it because it was too late for me to over stuff myself. I asked rest to be packed to go and waiter was nice and packed the left over. He also asked me if I wanted salsa to go and I said of course.. So he gave me all 3 salsas to go. That was very nice. This place is most definitely must visit place.. Food was really good. Service was really good and price was most definitely good. Would I say this is the best tacos I've ever eaten? No but it was pretty damn close. Also I came back to my rental car.. Car was safe and I ended up tipping the guy 50 pesos for watching my car.. Figure that was fair for 45 mins of his time.

Yelp
Al pastor con pina tacos are the way to go! The charro frijoles were great too. We tried several other taco places closer to our stay, but they didn't even come close.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Amazing tacos. We went around 3pm and there was a line of around 6-8 people, took maybe 5-8 minutes to get seated. They have those rotisserie spinners with marinated steak and pork on it looks like, and they cut it from there. I had two of the pork tacos, one steak taco, shared the chorizo queso dip thing, and had a chorizo taco too. I thought the steak taco was the best, followed by the chorizo taco and pork taco. Not sure why, but the pork lacked flavor. The chorizo, queso dip was phenomenal, the chorizo was perfectly salty, and I thought better than the trees or taco itself, which was unusual overall would recommend this place, I thought the ambience was very family friendly. Must try in playa Del Carmen.

Yelp
Best al pastor and chorizo in Playa. Long line but it moved fast. This place is on point from services to delicious authentic Mexican foods. Definitely will come back next time in town.

Yelp
This is a staple for us whenever we're in Playa del Carmen! The meats por "órdenes" are the only way to go! Generous portions of delicious al pastor, asada, pollo, and more! The drink selection is excellent, including all your favorite Mexican beers and generous, well-made margaritas!

Yelp
Great experience and large portions Great service and also tasty. Especially the heat- very spicy

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Went twice during my stay. It's worth the walk from fifth ave.

Yelp
On each and every trip to Playa Del Carmen, I've passed by this restaurant and it's always busy (packed house with a line waiting for a table). Beyond all the people that appear to be loving their food, all these people willing too wait in a long line must know this is pretty good... Plus I couldn't take my eyes off the Trompos (meat cooking on a rotating vertical metal rod). The guys prepping tacos and other dishes cut meat rom the rod with such artistic form... they even have a pineapple on the top of the rod and they fling the knife to cut a small, warm piece onto some of the dishes with such grace (love seeing the pineapple fly up and land safely on the taco shell). Why we haven't jumped on trying it is just odd to me but we finally did. Waiting is line is rough... just watching all the tables enjoying their dishes and slurping their drinks. And then, a waitress offered to serve drinks to people in the line. Time sure flies by standing in line with a HUGE glass full of FROZEN MARGARITA. We got out table and we ordered right away... I ordered CHICKEN FAJITAS and I loved them and really appreciated how authentic everything was; very lightly seasoned with slight charing on the onions and green peppers. They gave numerous sauces (some too hot for my delicate palette) and had a plate of grilled, strips of poblano peppers. I washed it all down with a second drink, FROZEN STRAWBERRY MARGARITA. I can almost taste it if I close my eyes and reminisce of my last visit...

Yelp
Incredible authentic tacos!! The staff are friendly and fast considering how busy they are. I highly recommend you order the chorizo, al pastor and sirloin tacos. Each one is going to have a very distinct flavor that's going to ruin you for tacos you in the future eat that's not made here! Ambiance is very casual and they have performers who come and sing for the guests. Great place for a group meal as they were able to sit 12 within minutes.
google avatar

Yelp
Muy ricos tacos pero debes llegar con tiempo porque hay fila para poder tener mesa. Ten cuidado a la hora de pagar. A mi no me pasó nada pero por tanta gente talvez pueda haber un error involuntario. 100% recomendado

Yelp
¡HOLA mis amigos saludo desde Playa, México! I have heard this place was a well known spot, for locals and tourists, so I had to check it out. They weren't lying! This place was packed! This place is big and the atmosphere was so alive! I was able to get a seat quickly! "Puedo Ordenar..." I ordered three steak tacos and a Melon fresca (fruit juice). The staff were so friendly and so quick! The beef had a distinct peppery taste, which is different from the other taco places I've been to! I'm not going to lie, it was pretty good! The tacos come with three different salsas, lime, cucumbers and radish! I really do like the refreshing cucumbers and radish after devouring the tacos with the hot sauce! But let me tell you about that melon drink! It was amazing so refreshing and so big! I wanted to come back just for that! It was like a melon smoothie, had some chunks of melons in it too! So yummy! !Hasta la próxima vez! Xoxo

Yelp
The food is average for Texan, good light flavors. Tortillas are soft and salsas not too spicy. Although i did see one guest really struggling . The gringa needed more cheese, I came due to a youtube video where this selection was loaded. The sirloin steak taco is also pretty good. Tortas were the best, on fresh bread and could use a little more meat, grilled onions, and avocados but it passes when hungry and on a budget. Prices are decent, compared to touristy restaurants. Here you can spend 20-30 for 4 while touristy restaurants can be 5 to 6 times that much. Service was fast and average. Nothing spectacular. It is hot, dress cool.
google avatar

Zain K.

Yelp
Wow. I only came here because my first option was randomly closed, but I'm soooo glad for the opportunity to have made this discovery. I'll be dreaming about this meal for a while... or so I hope. I had a couple sirloin tacos along with a couple of pastor. The meats were delicious, and I loved the accompaniments of cuke, radish, and nopal. On top of that, service was quick and competent. I look forward to returning

Dani E.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious, affordable, great service/ambiance. Restaurant was packed, mostly locals, live music. Had torta with steak and la gringa with el pastor, and margaritas. This place was easily the best meal with had in Mexico, so much flavor. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Let me start off with ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! So good that we went back two days in a row. :-) This was our first trip to Mexico and were staying at the Fairmont, Mayakoba. As expected, there are a variety of wonderful restaurants within the Mayakoba properties, which consist of the Fairmont, The Rosewood and Andaz. We tried a few of the property restaurants our first few days, but wanted to find something more local to the area, a meal representing the local products and flavors as well as a more casual and less expensive experience. This lead me to YELP and discovering El Fogon in Playa del Carmen. The taxi ride form The Fairmont to El Fogon in Playa del Carmen was ~450 / 500 Peso's, or about $25 USD. It was a straight shot from the hotel to the restaurant and took about 20-25 minutes. The restaurant is located on the corner of Av. Consitituyentes and 30 Avenida Nte. You can't miss the colorful two story building; orange, yellow and green. I enjoyed that both the main and second floor were open air seating. They are open from 1 pm to midnight each day and serve lunch, dinner, drinks and desserts. Expect it to be busy (in most cases) when you arrive. The first time we came to the restaurant it was about 7 pm and we had about a 15 minute wait; not too bad at all. It was actually shorter of a wait than I anticipated based on the long line when we arrived. There are plenty of seats throughout the restaurant. The food - what to expect. Traditional tacos and quesadillas, family-style grilled meat combination plates, fajitas, a variety of quesos fundidos, tortas, nachos, alcoholic and fruit frescas. It's a large menu with a variety of choices. However, the meats grilled on the vertical rotisserie spit are absolutely fantastic. When you are seated, they quickly bring out a trio of salsas, a fresh marinated cactus plate and a plate of We had the the Taco Logo with bacon both days we came to the restaurant. Yes, it was that good. It is a combination of the meats roasted on the spits, with a quest and topped with a hearty piece of bacon. The flavors were deep, rich and came together in true perfection. The steak tacos came out and had a pile of corn tortillas, queso and a large portion of steak to build out several tacos to share. There were two disappointments during our visits. 1) We didn't find this restaurant sooner during our visit. I think if we had, we may have eaten here 75%+ or more during our 5 day stay in the Cancun area. 2) We came back late in the evening to try the Flan based on recommendations, but were too full to eat after dinner. They were out and we never got to try it! The hotel staff were even impressed that we had visited this local favorite and continued to make recommendations on dishes we should try. However, ever time we said we ordered the Taco loco a confirming smile of "that's the one to get" came across. Would I go back - absolutely!!!

Yelp
We found a treasure. We stopped by because the word on the street was this was the spot. It's open air and tables on the first and second floor with open space. Almost like being outside. The first day there was a line of of at least 20 people. We waited 15 minutes or so and was seated. Ordering was different because my Spanish isn't great. The first plate came out and we didn't know if we ordered it. The other two plates came out and we were delighted. There was so much food it was hard to eat everything, but we did. The cheese in the tacos were devine. The chorizo was spicy and fabulous! The combination of flavors in all the meals were fantastic!!!!! The mango smoothie was tasty but not as thick as I expected. The amazing part was the total bill for everything was under $25. It cost more to take the taxi from our hotel. It was so good we went back the next day and did it again.

Yelp
Great Food and Service. Dine or ToGo. We have ordered and been to this place many times. They have yet to disappoint.

Yelp
Easily the best tacos in Playa. This review is like the 100's before me. I'm happy to confirm the food is fantastic. First impressions: When first walking up to El Fogon, you see the two enormous meat spits with beef and chicken, similar to shawarma. The smells are delightful and it's packed. My children and I get a seat for our and quickly dive into the menu. We're regulars at some of the best hole in the wall tacorias in Chicago, so I feel like the bar was high. I'm happy to report this is everything you need any in a street taco spot. I recommend when your in PdC you eat here as many times as possible. You won't be unhappy.

Angela L.

Yelp
The food was good and cheap. A pork or steak taco was 27-33 pesos, but buying the combination plates were more worth it. It was a good mix of tourist people and locals eating there, so it felt "legit". The first time I went the service was good, but the second time wasn't as good. The lady never came to our table and was a little rude.

Yelp
Delicious! Awesome food and drinks. Definitely would recommend! Sometimes one worries about the safety of food you don't have to worry here.

Yelp
Amazing food! Great margarita's. Cheap prices, we ate there twice during our stay in Playa Del Carmen... must stop here!
