As soon as I walked in, it was a very clean place. Very professional. The interior with the green works perfectly with the brown wood. The food was also fantastic. I highly recommend the chicken tortilla soup. One of my favorite parts about this place is the very nice menu.

It's a very nice place to eat Mexican style food. Price are decent and there is a good quantity of food. Service was good. Quick for food preparation.

Don't pass this little hidden gem! I was so impressed with the food, full of rich flavors, and grilled to perfection. Booths with plenty of room to move, and a peaceful atmosphere with mild Mexican music. Soda fountain and bottles soft drinks. Definitely will be back here!

The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. I loved how many vegetarian options they had available! Their green salsa was a hit between my mom and I. I'd visit again!

Dear El Fuego Management, I am writing to formally express my disappointment with my recent experience at your Algonquin, IL location. I placed an order for pickup, and upon arrival, I observed a young male employee exiting the restroom, putting on just one glove, and then proceeding to pick items up from the floor before handling my food with his bare hands. Concerned about hygiene, I questioned his actions, but he did not seem to understand me. When I raised the issue with the cashier, she kindly offered to remake my order, which I appreciated. However, another female employee, who was seated and eating at the time, aggressively intervened, yelling at me and stating that she didn’t need my business. She then instructed the cashier to issue me a refund instead of remaking my order. Her behavior was extremely rude, unprofessional, and completely uncalled for. I calmly tried to explain that my concern was about proper food handling and employee training, but she responded with further hostility and ultimately asked me to leave the restaurant. This experience was both frustrating and disappointing. Food safety should be a top priority in any restaurant, and employees should be properly trained in hygiene and customer service. Additionally, no customer should ever be treated with such disrespect for raising a valid concern. I hope you take this complaint seriously and implement better training for your staff to ensure cleanliness and professionalism. I would appreciate a response regarding how this matter will be addressed. Respectfully, A long time Former Patron “Power concedes nothing without demand, it never has and it never will” - F Douglas

We came to El Fuego after a hard days work and the Food was Phenomenal! The king burrito for 10 dollars was so fresh the tortilla was nice and crispy, the meat was savory and the fountain drinks where perfect, clean tables good music and the salsa Verde was just right little spicy to get that good flavor, I'm definitely coming here again!

Always a full belly when you leave. Great steak burritos! Just had it again 6/4/24 . Fantastic as always. Refried beans and rice are so good. Steak burrito was outstanding. Great flavor!

Check#120 Cecilia D. I am a regular customer and typically order the king burrito plate and the tostada plate. However, yesterday was the first time I inquired whether the recipe had changed, as the burrito appeared smaller than usual, and I am familiar with the typical size of your king burrito. When I approached the counter for assistance, the cook noticed me but only smiled and looked away. Eventually, Cecilia, the staff member who took my order, came over. I asked her if this was the king burrito, but rather than addressing my concern, she immediately responded by stating that this was what I ordered and the amount of meat provided. It seemed she misunderstood my question; I was inquiring about the burrito's size rather than the quantity of meat. I perceived an attitude from her, and since I felt she was not actively listening, I chose not to pursue the matter further, especially for a difference of $2-3. My suggestion to the owner is to train your employees on proper customer interaction, including how to greet customers and approach inquiries. It would be beneficial to emphasize the importance of attentive listening and maintaining eye contact while engaging with customers, as a more positive attitude would enhance the overall experience.

Yelp
Stopped by since in the area, we sat down and we have to order at the register. The place is a bit small but very nice and clean. I ordered the king steak burrito and added rice inside of it and it was delicious. I also got a steak hurache everything on it and it was super delicious the flavor was amazing. I got the super nachos steak and it was my favorite it was actually better than my burrito I was super amazed with the flavor of it because when I grabbed the first chip and I saw nacho cheese sauce I was like great I'm not liking this but it it was so damn good. This is my go to next time I come back. Also the horchata is very good. The only thing this restaurant needs to do is over by the bathrooms you need to get a plumber so he can get rid of that horrible sewer. Other than that this place is very good.

Jocelyn V.

Yelp
Service was nice and quick. The restaurant was clean. The food was good and tasted fresh. The prices were reasonable and a good variety on the menu.

Yelp
I stopped by El Fuego a couple of times in Algonquin. Less than two weeks later someone from work brought in a catered package of beef, refried beans, rice, tortillas, and other accoutrements from El Fuego. The service and atmosphere at El Fuego is nice. There is a moderate amount of room on the inside for seating. It was somewhat lively both times I was there. The food was not great and the tacos are pricey for their size. I had tacos on flour tortillas made American (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream) and Mexican style (onions and cilantro). The beef steak was a little on the salty side and the chicken was a little bland. I enjoyed the ground beef the most because there was some good flavors that came with it. The refried beans and the rice didn't have as much flavor as they should have. El Fuego has plenty of room to improve.

Tim N.

Yelp
This was the best place around after Tacos ElNorte closed. Prices are up, quality is down. This is my steak taco with only cheese, Lettuce and tomato. Blah, totally blah. Too many other Taco joints around where I can get what I paid for.

Jim B.

Yelp
Apparently the inept staff at El Fuego cannot process an online order correctly, and when you come back to the restaurant in person and tell them their mistake, they blame you for the error. There are too many Mexican food choices to deal with clowns who stand around on their cellphones and act rudely to their customers. Hasta luego El Fuego...NOT

Donna S.

Yelp
Yes!!! I drive here for a good taco in the burbs - usually pickup since it's smaller inside. It's mostly busy which is always a good sign!

Michael W.

Yelp
Tonight we ordered from El Fuego; I had to call three times to get through. We ordered Hurraches and asked that they add Cantina style. The Hurraches came differently than we usually got them: no beans, no avacado, and no limes. It was only meat, cilantro and onions. The nachos were very good and we appreciate their quality. Not sure what happened with our order. We have had great quality in the past but that has always been in person. Not sure what to do going forward since the Hurraches without the usual ingredients were not as good.

Christina W.

Yelp
Our first visit post Covid. This is still our favorite Mexican restaurant in McHenry County. We love their Huaraches. Today's huaraches were made different than we remembered: bread base with meat, cilantro, and onions. Where was the refried beans layer, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, avocado slices and limes? We always *add* Cantina Style per their in-store menu. We also tried their Super Nachos: tortilla chips topped with steak, beans, cheese, onion, tomato, guacamole, sour cream and jalapeños. This dish was delicious and had all the appropriate ingredients. We called ahead and placed our order over the phone. Then hubby went inside to pick up our bagged food.

Kaitlin R.

Yelp
This place is HORRIBLE! The staff is disrespectful as I had a pick up order and they forgot my toppings. The lady that picked up the phone yelled at me like its my fault and she cursed me. Then i went back to pick up the toppings she disappeared. As far as the food goes the chicken was extra dry and the beef had hair in it. The tortillas seemed old and nothing was correct. I would avoid this place at all costs!!!

Anna C.

Yelp
Their al pastor is one of the best in town. Highly recommend their tacos, huaraches, taco bowls, and horchata.

Travis H.

Yelp
I've ordered from El Fuego a number of times. Prices are fair and the food is delicious. Always prepared fresh and with great care. Good sized portions. Huevos con chorizo and taco dinner both highly recommended.

Jason W.

Yelp
We got take out on Cinco de Mayo. Burrito was excellent. Steak properly seasoned. Lots of food for the price. Will definitely return.

Brian F.

Yelp
This place has been here awhile, but its in a location that is not as convenient as some of the other local burrito places, so we haven't found ourselves coming here very much. I waited to leave this review until I could go for a second visit (both orders were takeout), and here's the thing. It's good... just good, nothing extraordinary or unique, although they have huaraches, which I haven't tried yet. When I say it's just good, I'm going off of two criteria... 1) Chorizo - My standard order is always a chorizo burrito. Every spot has a different style with their handling of the chorizo. I know it's gross, but I like when the chorizo is a little greasy and the oil is almost coming through the tortilla. Here at El Fuego, they prepare it a little more controlled and dry, so if you like it that way, this is perfect for you. Since I don't, I rate the chorizo a 2.5 out of 5. 2) House salsas - I am a huge fan of a salsa verde and I always hope for a mix that is filled with multiple flavors and tartness as well as a medium to high amount of heat. I didn't experience that with the salsa verde here and that is a huge draw from my tastes. From the standpoint of freshness, quality, and customer service, they are doing it great here, and they are definitely worth your business!

I-Lin L.

Yelp
Love the music that they play in here! It's all the songs that are in my Zumba class and makes me want to dance, haha. I wasn't very hungry when we came in around noon on Sunday because I had eaten a huge breakfast in the morning, so I just got a carne asada taco with everything on it and cantina style. It was quite tasty, a bit on the salty and oily side though. Came with two corn tortillas. Fun place for a casual meal. The chairs are padded and the booths are pretty comfy. The restaurant is paired in a cheery orange, there is a TV on the wall, and did I mention the upbeat music?? :)

Blaine B.

Yelp
We're very loyal customers. Came in to get a pick-up order and she started to run my card. I told her I had left a coupon in the car and went to get it. When I came back, she refused to reverse the transaction so I could then use my coupon. From her attitude, it was clear she didn't know how and didn't care either. Very disappointing service and as a result, we may not be back.

Nia M.

Yelp
food was amazing, great service, and good back ground music,it's very clean in the inside and the bathroom,i love eating here so much and coming to spend time with me family here and we take out all the time.

Cristie G.

Yelp
Good for you El Fuego, while other places prices are going up and quality is going down your food quality has gone up. The steak on my tacos tonight was so good and seems like you have changed your chips since I was here last much better! Thank you for a great meal

Amber-Rose D.

Yelp
We ordered dinner to go. 3 chicken tacos, a steak taco plate and pork nachos. Chicken tacos the chicken was wet and had no flavor. Steak tacos were bland as well. For The nachos the pork was so sweet and the rest of the nachos was wet and no flavor. I was very disappointed.

Jecolah B.

Yelp
One of the worst tacos I've had. It was soggy. I also had to take off toppings I asked not to be added. I did an online order and won't order here again.

Esther S.

Yelp
Burritos are bomb and so good. Some of the sauces aren't always consistent, employees are nice.

Paul M.

Yelp
The King Burrito with steak was delicious and certainly king-size. If you want the habanero green sauce, let them know. It's spicy but not overpowering. Pork (Al pastor) and chorizo are very good. The chicken is stewed and pretty bland. The Super Nachos is an appetizer for 2-3 and we'll balanced.

Dane S.

Yelp
First time here, last time here. My wife and I both got food poisoning. I did also taste a weird taste in the burrito I couldn't figure out what it was, i assumed it was the way they'd prepared their food as it was my first time here. I ended up ordering a burrito and she got tacos. I was out for the count for about 3 days. Stomach was hurting, soft stool, couldn't keep anything down. Also the burrito I got was extremely greasy, but I tried to ignore it and give them benefit of the doubt. I ignored 2 signs and it costed me food poisoning. Sign 1) weird taste in the food, 2) how much grease dripped and collected in the bottom of the burrito. So much it oozed out onto my plate like I had poured hot sauce in there. Yuck!

M S.

Yelp
Pretty tasty and nice portions, but still a bit pricey. Carne asada cooked well. Ask for the habanero sauce - mixed with other hot sauce it's perfect!

Jesse M.

Yelp
Meh...... average tasting that's too bland for Mexican cuisine and a bit pricey although their guacamole is pretty good.

Mister C.

Yelp
Just got their Taco Tuesday package (ten tacos total, two each of: chicken/pollo, ground beef/picadillo, spicy sausage/chorizo, steak/carne asada and shredded spicy pork / al pastor). It came with a good amount of salsa - medium size tubs of both red and green, a medium size tub of sour cream, onions and cilantro, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. So it's your choice to go traditional Mexican style tacos or American. Both salsas have some decent kick to them. All of the different meats were prepared well with decent flavor. I especially liked their al pastor and their picadillo. Will absolutely return. Much better than the competition down the street (I don't mean Taco Bell, that's Taco Bell) - I mean the one along Algonquin Road.

Amber A.

Yelp
We order from this restaurant very often and every single time it's AMAZING. So amazing that when they forgot my drink for my mobile order thos evening, the food made up for it! Love this place. Staff was very kind and respectful. They offered to come drop it off but I chose to get the store credit. They even offered me some dollars off for next time

Bob C.

Yelp
Food is good. The problem is in the pick up. Last couple months it seems like no one there cares about good service. Here's a picture of a 3 taco dinner with rice and beans. More like 2-1/2 taco dinner with rice and throw around the plate beans. They don't seem to pay attention when loading the food in the bags, I watch them tip every carton. Again, the food is good. Just eat there.

H F.

Yelp
Have had this place 4 or 5 times. First thing that caused them to lose stars, the rice. The only consistency it has is that it is always crunchy. I kept giving them more chances thinking I just had a bad batch. No. EVERYTIME Tacos were good and well filled. Chicken burrito had what seemed to be bone slivers in it. Flavors were good. Not sure they will get another chance with us.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Please stop giving chicken-based sauces on the side for vegetarian orders. Also, teach your staff to actually know that the sauces contain chicken. I've been trying to contact the organization about this for some time, I would appreciate a response & if the change is made I will consider changing my reviews.

Rachel F.

Yelp
I found them online looking to cater a party. Tried them on Tuesday for dinner and catered from them that same Saturday! Everything was delicious! My husbands family is Hispanic and they all approved lol Great portion size and price! Everything was packed nice, organized, and convenient. Will definitely order from them again.

Matt S.

Yelp
Hands down best tacos in Northern IL and it's not even close. Exceptionally nice people who work here too. Highly recommend.

Maxx R.

Yelp
I've tired an assortment of taco places, this is by far the best. Love it. Get it once a week.

Sergey R.

Yelp
First and foremost my and family and I really like the food here. However, what we saw this afternoon getting our food is making us rethink coming here. We ordered over the phone and came to pick up the food. While waiting for our food for 30 minutes (which is fine they are busy) we watched the kid putting the food into bags play with his mask pulling it on and off the entire time. I understand that masks are a nuisance and get irritating. He quite literarily was playing with it. He must have done this 50 times and most of the time stood there without a mask on. To make matters worse our food was put on the shelf when we walked and if we didn't ask how long it would be we would have never gotten the food. Overall just a bad experience. I implore the management team to teach your employees to handle food better.

Glenn R.

Yelp
Wow ! Not sure what's happened to this place since the last time I had it. But Wow, has the quality gone down hill. Maybe that explains why the had no customers when I came to order. First thing you notice is all 3 of the women are standing around talking, while a little boy is wanting something from them. Second, is the guacamole sitting out on the shelf, exposed to the air, dust,flies,etc-YUCk and GROSS ! Third, took one of the girls a couple minutes to even acknowledge is was there. Once I ordered I thought it all would be good... Nope ! The cook starting to warm up the meat, had to read the ticket 3 times, prep the burrito, and then it sat there, while 4 of them stood around and talked. Finish the order and get it to the customer, then have your chat. Finally it was bagged, and handed to me. Time to eat- Burritos we're very greasy , I mean greasy, like a puddle of grease on the plate, and very salty. Chips were stale, so stale couldn't eat them. Salsa was sour, maybe it sat out like the guacamole !!! My son and I didn't even finish the food, it went in the garbage. I thought to my self, no business and all the things observed, and how the food tasted, Yeah,This place is going down soon !!!! Well , good luck, El Fuego, maybe you hire some new employees that give a shit about the business... Or maybe these are the owners, showing how much the business means to them ! Either way, I won't be back anytime soon !! Go around the corner to Burrito Parrillo, they haven't let me down yet !!!

Gabi R.

Yelp
I love this place and used to come all the time! Today I ordered pork & steak tacos with rice and beans for lunch and I'm now feeling really ill. Pretty sure I have minor food poisoning :( Apparently, my parents ordered from here a month or so ago and had the same feeling for about 24 hours. I am a huge Mexican food lover so I'm just leaving this comment in hopes that you address this issue!

Adam M.

Yelp
Always great food and great prices, hard to beat the king burrito it's massive! Feed a family of 5 for under $40 what a deal!

Shelly L.

Yelp
I've always wanted to stop in here but always afraid to try something new when it comes to a burrito. We both had a steak burrito and my husband added avocado to his. They were delicious! So glad we decided to give it a try. Will definitely be back to try something else!

jan l.

Yelp
We've ordered several times from El Fuego in Alonguin. It's been great each time. I've had burritos, tacos, taco salad bowl and flautas. Everything has been just delicious!!! Tonight's flautas were excellent! I asked for extra hot sauce. We received 3 different kinds, times 6 I always order Mexican ala carte because I don't care to pay for really mediocre rice and beans. These were absolutely delicious! Heavy garlic in the rice, and really well seasoned.

Lesley P.

Yelp
I'm letting you all know right now, you can stop looking for other food options. Just go get yourself some tacos from here. It's a bit busy, but totally worth the wait!

Raju C.

Yelp
Food is always good. They r never stingy with their salsas. We get food to go often and always enjoy it. It's always hot and fresh. Favorites are the tacos, burritos, and the taco salad is amazing.

Jessica F.

Yelp
The restaurant is set up like a fast food joint: you go in, place your order and pay, then they call you to pick up your food at the counter when it is ready. The difference is that it is not particularly "fast"-- I'd say our food took about 20 minutes before it came to us, and the rice was not quite lukewarm when it arrived. Food is served on regular dishes with plastic forks/knives and styrofoam cups. The food itself was okay but with my tostada plate, there were no spices to taste. Plain ground beef, tomato, lettuce, sour cream, cheese-- perfect for someone on a bland diet. Hot sauce is available. The food was plentiful, too bad it wasn't more flavorful.

Lucas K.

Yelp
Best restaurant in town great people amazing food! Get the chicken it is shredded and soooooo juicy. Yummy yummy yummmy!

Nick D.

Yelp
Love this place, 3rd tine dining in here with my family. Great spicy homemade guacamole. Super fresh and delicious ingredients. This place is always busy. TONS of takeout biz done here. I'm a burrito connoisseur. This place makes a legit burrito!

Alex W.

Yelp
My order was wrong again. My wife's order had the wrong meat on hers and we asked for it on the side. My dish, the taco bowl, has been different almost every time I've ordered it. It has a taco bowl shell that was crushed because it was on the bottom of the bag. My son's meal had a Capri Sun with it, but they put a staple through the pouch when they stapled the bag closed. It leaked when I removed the staple.

Annette S.

Yelp
I ordered the taco plate yesterday when I received my order it was cold rice and beans were cold I had gotten sick an hour after I ate plus they forgot my extra sour cream I won't be ordering from them again

Lisa H.

Yelp
So good! We did take out tonight. Very happy with the food. So much for a great price! Plus! They have a black bean option which you don't always see, as a vegetarian I was very happy to have that option!

Alissa H.

Yelp
Great value for your buck. Great beans and rice sides. My Tacos were great! My husband lived the burrito. As I have read before our takeout boxes were bit messy, but that did not ruin the delicious food.

Jef A.

Yelp
The chicken taco salad is one of the best I had in a long time. The chicken is seasoned well, fresh generous amount of cheese and the taco shell is crispy yet not burnt. The service is fast by industry standard and for a party of five we got all our food in less than 10 minutes. I will definitely be back and try there tacos or burritos next time.

Julie C.

Yelp
Placed an order in celebration of cinco de mayo. Ordered at 5:00 thru DoorDash. Received confirmation at 5:15 that my order was received. Expected a long wait because of the special day. Kept in constant contact with my Door dasher who was waiting for our food and someone else's. At 8 pm, he texts me that he received the other order and was waiting for ours. He was told they hadn't even entered the order yet. I ended up cancelling the order. After 3 hours, Fuego could've communicated better regarding being behind on orders. Instead I heard it from our door dasher. No bueno, Fuego I felt bad our door dasher waiting for 3 hours. Fuego, you dropped the ball, sorry. I want to add that we order from Fuego ALL THE TIME, and are never disappointed with the food. They, by far, have the best tacos and salsa. Clearly, Cinco de Mayo was a lesson learned for next year. See you on our next order Fuego!
