We had been to this restaurant once before for a regular dinner, and while it was okay, it wasn't anything outstanding. Because of that, we hadn't returned--until my husband wanted to try the Sazerac dinner. We bought tickets for ourselves and my sister and her husband to celebrate her birthday. After the 22% service fee, the total was over $1,000 for the four of us.
For that price, we expected a more intimate experience at our own table, but instead, we were seated in a large, crowded room at a giant circular table with strangers. The setup felt more like a presentation on whiskey (which wasn't mentioned on the event page) rather than a private dining experience. While there's nothing inherently wrong with that style of event, it was unexpected, and the room was so loud that I could barely hear my sister, even though she was sitting right next to me. Given that we were celebrating a birthday, we had hoped for a more personal atmosphere, which wasn't possible with 60 people packed into the space. The circular table arrangement also meant we had to sit next to each other instead of across, which wasn't ideal.
The biggest disappointment was the lack of clarity on the event page--it never mentioned the communal seating or presentation-style format. Had we known, we probably wouldn't have attended. Unfortunately, the food didn't justify the price either. My short ribs were so salty they were barely edible, and the first course--a Nutella popcorn amuse-bouche--was stale.
The best part of the night was the service. The staff was fantastic and helped make the experience a bit better, but overall, this wasn't the night we expected for $1,000.
