They have life music and it usually starts around 6:00. This is one my favorite restaurants in the world. Today Scott Long was our waiter and he was excellent at attending to our every need. All the staff here was super friendly. I got the flaming sword and it was really cool watching them light it on fire. It tasted amazing as well. My husband got the ribeye steak I tried a bite and it was really good. But the flaming sword is better 😉. We also ordered the wicked shrimp. Scott told us to use the sauce from the wicked shrimp and use it on the complimentary cheesy garlic bread. It was fantastic together. The garlic bread alone is wonderful but that just pumped it up another notch. The shrimps are delicious as well. We also had a little platter of crackers, apples, jam, cheese, and honey that was absolutely delectable. Then Scott surprised me with a free purse holder. All around a wonderful experience.

Went to El Gaucho for date night, and it was truly a great experience. The attention to detail and service was impeccable. Steaks were cooked perfectly to temp. Highly recommend Danielle as a server. The Filet El Gaucho is wonderful. Wife had sea bass that was perfectly cooked and so buttery. Great place to impress a guest. The only disappointment was lobster Mac, but lobster mash blew us away.

Kind of messed up on our orders, and they took the last dish off our tab. We were not going to eat it anyway as it was onions, and she is allergic to avocados. It took a while to get service and our food. The shrimp tacos are now deep fried, which was a downer as well.

Very nice upscale dining experience. Yes, it’s expensive but it’s nice to treat yourself and others to a classy experience every once in a while if you’re able to. Service was fantastic, bread basket was never empty, table side Caesar salad was cool to see. Food was great and flavorful. Drinks were tasty. We will go back and certain special occasions.

We recently hosted a company dinner at El Gaucho Vancouver for a large group of people, and the entire experience was flawless from start to finish. Jenn Dolan was instrumental in helping us plan the event—her attention to detail, responsiveness, and professionalism made the process smooth and stress-free. Despite the size of our group, the service was exceptional. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and the food, ambiance, and overall experience exceeded all expectations. From the appetizers to the perfectly cooked steaks and decadent desserts, every detail was handled with care. El Gaucho is an outstanding venue for any upscale group event, and we’re already looking forward to returning. Huge thanks again to Jenn and the entire team for making this a truly memorable evening!

Came here on work outing business travel, great place food was amazing. Service was pretty good. All the waiter was a little bit grumpy. The restaurant was gorgeous. Food was amazing.

Google
Took my wife here for her birthday hoping to get a good fine dining experience, and I'd say we got it! Got scallops and pork belly for the appetizer, and we both got steaks with some crab mac n cheese. Pumpkin cheese cake to finish was fantastic with the cocktails and wine being icing on the cake for the whole experience. May not come back for quite a while cause the price was astronomical but it was a wonderful time!

It's a pricey restaurant, but it's worth it for special occasions. The quality of the food and drinks are high-end, impressive, and delicious. The inside is nice and clean, and the staff are classy and professional. Our server was sweet and fun while he prepared our salad and made dressing from scratch in front of us.

Yelp
Joel, Colby, and the entire team were pleasant and professional, taking great care to make our experience exceptional from the moment we arrived until we left. Can't recommend El Gaucho - Vancouver more.

Yelp
Good Day. We had the pleasure of dining with you last night(Tuesday May 14). Scott was our server and I don't think there are words out there to explain the phenomenal experience we had last night. It was out of this world. Everything from food, service, ambiance was the best I have ever experienced. Scott you rocked it. Your advice on food and drinks to compliment our dinner was impeccable. His expertise would be the best I experienced anywhere in the world. It's sometimes the small things that count, the unexpected that all adds to the wow factor. My wife and I are very proud of the customer service we provide in our business we run and it's great to see top of the line customer service as we got last night. Thank you Scott for the experience of a life time. Jen & Kiwi. (And thank you Scott for chasing us down on the roof top bar with my credit card I left behind)The Roof Top bar was another brilliant experience as well. Thanks to them all as well.

Yelp
We were very excited to try another El Gaucho. It is in a new revitalized area and it is gorgeous. The restaurant happens to be in our hotel. Reservations were easy as we booked the day before for dinner. We got a call about patio seating as it was their first time opening it and it was a beautiful day out but hot. We tried it and loved it. You do lose the ambience of the restaurant though. Everything we ordered was on par and the bartender did a great job mixing mocktails. We had wicked shrimp, beet salad, wedge salad, lobster tails, halibut, and a shareable side of mash potatoes. I would recommend this one. If you would like to enjoy after drinks they have a rooftop bar called the Witness tree.

Yelp
I'd love to say this place was amazing but it was an amazing disappointment of well over $400. My husband and I were out celebrating our birthdays and decided to try El Gaucho in Vancouver because we didn't want to drive to Portland and after many people gave good reviews of this location. When we arrived on time for our reservation the hostess looked at me immediately like I didn't belong and said that we would need to wait as our table was not ready. We waited for 20 mins and finally were taken to our table. We ordered some hors d'oeuvres, a bottle of wine and dinner. Our dinner course included fillet & lamb and it took over an hour for it to come out. It was Luke warm when it got to us but I guess that's ok because our accompanying plates were not so average temp was ok?! At this point we had finished two bottles of wine while waiting. As an apology the manager offered us a free $15 dessert on a $400+ bill. I have since advised multiple friends and family to avoid the Vancouver location and if they want a good dinner to go elsewhere or if they are set on El Goucho over to the Portland location because I have never had a bad experience there. I was disappointed not only because of what happened but even more so that it made our birthdays feel a little special.

Yelp
The El Gaucho Vancouver location was a serious disappointment...I'm not sure how anyone would think this is a fine dining experience. LOL. First my husband and I were seated at a table that was crammed in the middle of the restaurant. It was uncomfortable and we had waiters brushing up behind us constantly while we were there. We ordered the food wedge salad, crab cakes, a couple of steaks, and asparagus. The salad was still watery from the lettuce being washed and the dressing was runny. They have really cheapened their ingredients...The bacon the Portland location used to use was thick almost like a thick cut pancetta. The crab cakes are not as good as they used to be...not nearly as dense and flavorful as I remember. Between the table being a chaotic place to sit and the poor quality of the food we just wanted to leave so we took our ribeye and medallion filets to go. The ribeye and medallions were mediocre. I ended up giving half my meal to my dog...The side of asparagus we got was gross. Again the quality of their ingredients have gone down hill. For a $300-$400 dollar meal it was poor quality. We won't be back.

Yelp
I came here for my one-year anniversary dinner and had an amazing time. Located on the Vancouver waterfront, the location is already amazing and you can go for a nice stroll before or after your meal. The inside of the establishment is spacious, with plenty of seating, and dimly lit for a romantic dinner. As we came for our anniversary, they had already prepared a table with roses and decor for us. Service throughout the night went above and beyond to make the occasion special, and I would come back just for it again. Starting our meal was their complimentary garlic bread, which was mouth-watering delicious and I could've had it for dinner alone. For our appetizers we got the calamari, Dungeness crab cakes, and wedge salad and we got the bone-in rib eye for our entree to share. Overall, the appetizers were alright. Definitely good, but nothing that stood out in particular. The calamari wasn't very crispy and the wedge salad had too much dressing for me (but! these are all personal preferences). Out of the three, I would recommend the crab cakes! The steak was great and our waiter was amazing to cut our steak to share. After our entree, they offered complimentary bites that resembled a charcuterie board and a complimentary dessert (we got key lime pie) that was delicious. Overall, I would still love to come back because the service was absolutely amazing and the ambiance was perfect.

Yelp
An updated review from our amazing experience 2 years ago... We've had the privilege and pleasure of dining in New York Steakhouses & Underwater Restaurants in The Maldives but the experience at El Gaucho Vancouver has ranked in our top fine dining experience and let me tell you why... The immaculate attention to detail and the passion to deliver a World class experience to their diners is top notch. For example; we mentioned in the reservation notes that it was my birthday and they printed off a happy birthday on top of their menu... we mentioned we are celebrating the anticipated arrival of our first child in one month and we were met with a El Gaucho logo printed onesies. The gesture was enough to move my wife & I to tears. We've had the pleasure of being served by Mindy both times and she's incredible in creating a nice & relaxed atmosphere with carefully crafted recommendations. It truly felt as if we were hosted in an old friends house. Thank you, Mindy. You're incredible! And finally... the food was crafted and cooked to perfection! The seafood tower was carefully crafted with a perfect selection of different seafood and an amazingly crafted cocktail sauce. The crab bisque warmed our stomach. The medium on the El Gaucho filet mignon was the perfect temp and amount of juiciness! Thank you El Gaucho! We can't wait to come back with the newest addition to the family!

Yelp
We've been to this location and had a pleasant happy hour, so we decided to give it a go for a proper dinner. As others have noted parking, especially on sunny days, can be extremely tricky around here. The service was pretty on point, and appreciated that they gave us a cozy two person booth accented with rose petals around Valentine's Day. The steak was cooked to spec, and the mashed potatoes were plentiful (very much appreciated for the price of a meal here), and the beverage options were well paired. For the quality of food, you're definitely paying a premium for being at the waterfront and the Gaucho name. It's further exacerbated with the added service fee. Despite being a member of their loyalty program with at least $85 worth of credit to use towards the meal it was still a bit overpriced. Will we be back? Sure for happy hour, dinner is just not worth the price for us.

Yelp
Class and elegance here! Everything was very well done. Rib eye steak is cut at the table (they cut out the bone and give it to you ). Side of Asparagus was delicately crispy and fresh. Beet salad was very good, loved the chèvre and shaved Parmesan on it, rounded out the tartness of the acidic dressing. After dinner they give you a complimentary cheese/grape and cracker plate. Did you know...Red grapes are the best color for you! Good nutrients in the skin. Also ordered the three prawns add on. They were nicely grilled and meaty. Dessert--vanilla panna cotta was light and delicious, just a little in the small side. Waiter was attentive. Great place for a special dinner out!

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner last night. Our server Stefan was wonderful and made our experience wonderful. He was kind, attentive, and explained things well. The location was lovely and our table for two was very quaint. The reason for 4 stars is because while the food was good and we loved the table sideCesar and table side fluffed baked potato. The food was not amazing especially for the price. I thought the quality of the meat was a little lacking. However, we will come again for the top notch service.

Yelp
It was my first time dining there. The restaurant was definitely crowded on a Tuesday night. It was a good sign. The interior of the restaurant is pretty dark but the table settings are quite open. I had a fresh green salad, salmon with mashed potato and a slice of plain cheesecake. All were very delicious.
google avatar

Gene W.

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday night and remarkably, this place was still pretty busy. This place has a reputation for pretty good steaks and my filet did not disappoint. We also tried the fish (salmon) which was good but fairly standard. So why the meh score? Two things: with entrees averaging $65, plus double that if you want a salad, apps, dessert, tip, tax, etc. I'd want an unforgettable meal but the food was not that dissimilar to what I've had at chain steakhouses (e.g., Outback, Texas Roadhouse, etc.). So the jacked up prices are for service (pretty decent) and atmosphere (dark and unexpectedly loud). Dim is romantic, but loud is not romantic. If you like lots of waitstaff at your beck and call, and you're OK paying for it, this place is for you. Also, like Portland's South Waterfront, parking in Vancouver's Waterfront area can be a challenge (to find an open street space on weekends & evenings) and is a meter feeder M-F 8A- 6P.

Yelp
Super delicious food and great service Greatest atmosphere. Parking situation is so so.

Yelp
I LOVE El Gaucho. So much so that my husband and I drove all the way from Tacoma to visit this location. It's my favorite restaurant chain. And even though they are a chain, every location has a slightly different menu. Reservations are almost always needed, especially in a Friday or Saturday night. Our server Ryan was great. We ordered our usuals - lobster for me, and El Gaucho-style filet mignon for my husband. Both were delicious, though slightly different. We also enjoyed the roasted sweet corn, and a half order of the scalloped potatoes, for our side dishes. For dessert we got cherries jubilee. They prepare it table-side and talk to you through the whole process. Seattle, Tacoma, and Vancouver all do this slightly different, and I think Vancouver's is my fave. They add sugar and lemon zest which really sweetens and brightens the bing cherries without being overpowering. Dinner was delightful overall and I will be back. I will say that the best part of the evening was seeing Ryan (different one). He's our favorite staff member from the Tacoma location. He was there to help Vancouver celebrate their one year anniversary. I had told him I was sad that my favorite drink, strawberry limeade mule, wasn't available here. So what does he do? He goes over to the bar and teaches them how to make it from scratch! Slightly different ingredients, but basically the same. THAT is 5-star service right there! If you are staying in the Hotel Indigo, there is a door to enter the restaurant from the lobby. Otherwise, the main entrance is street-side. Valet parking is available, for a fee.

Yelp
WOW - what an experience! This place feels like a snapshot of back in time classic Steakhouse with super attentive service. This place goes above and beyond with level of attention - from the coat check, to learning and using our names, all the way to the rewards program. We felt like we were out of our league! The food was incredible. The steak was clearly high quality but we wished it would have had a bit more of a spice / rub - BUT can totally understand that they went more classic to let the steak shine. The pork belly and mashed potatoes were heavenly! The ambience was great - dimly lit and very classic. I would say because of the cost this will be a special event type place - but the cost is well worth it!

Yelp
This was our first dining at El Gaucho's Vancouver. The dining experience was immaculate. The service here is top notched and highly recommended for those who are in the area and looking for a nice place to eat. We reserved a table earlier in the day. When we arrived, we checked in and were promptly taken to our seats. Our server came by to introduce himself and we quickly ordered our drinks. We ordered the El Gaucho steak along with the 18oz bone in rib eye with the grilled diver scallops to share. We also ordered the wicked shrimps and the pork belly. Both appetizers were wickedly delicious! However, the star of the appetizers would be the amazing cheesy bread! It was sooooo good! We had to limit ourselves to save room for the entrees and dessert. The steaks were decent. The El Gaucho's steak came out perfect, but the bone in rib eye was a bit dry. Plus a bit salty for our tase. We felt the scallop potatoes were done a little different than the Portland location, but was good. The banana foster was a show-stopper for sure! Table side service and a portion big enough for 4! My fiancé and I shared it and each person had their own plate. Overall a fun experience.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in at the Vancouver waterfront location for the first time for a celebration dinner. The staff was incredibly nice and super attentive. The food was good, very flavorful but we both felt like the steak was a little dry and cooked more than we liked. We usually always get medium rare anytime we order a steak from anywhere. The restaurant itself was nice and clean. A little dark but we were seated in one of the rooms for a private dinner which was a lot brighter than the rest of the restaurant. It's all street parking, but they do have valet. They also have coat check at the front when you enter. We will definitely be back to visit this location for another dinner at another time. Enjoyed the amazing staff and the food!

Yelp
So, if you can't cook a steak, then this is your place. My family of four ate here the other day. To start, get there early because you may have to drive around for thirty minutes to find parking. No exaggeration. Crazy busy area. The steaks were fine. Not great, just fine. Anyone with a sous vide or decent grill can produce the same with a decent cut of meat. The sides were again just ok. Nothing about this meal was Wow. Over $800 for my family of four for a meal I could have prepared just as well. Ambiance was just ok. I like a dark, rich steak house experience. This wasn't that. Ruth's Chris is better.
google avatar

Yelp
Order: filet mignon 4 oz, Dungeness crab cakes, & lobster mash potatoes Pros: the food for the most part was seasoned well! The 4oz filet mignon was really good medium well. The Dungeness crab cakes tasted well like crab ha ha ha! The wine was really good and paired well with the steak. The service was really great! The atmosphere was elegant. Dim lit lights with smooth jazz playing. If you're not careful you'll get itis! Cons: slightly salty lobster potatoes. I also wished they had smaller portions. This plate of potato can feed 4-5 people easily. Also, there's not a lot of lobster. However, you do get a lot of sauce.

Yelp
Omg the food and service was amazing tonight! Been here at least a dozen times since it opened here and it's always been meh, Tonight tho, Martin our server was fantastic and anticipated our every need! It was probably the best dining experience we've had in a long time because of the stellar service!

Yelp
11 Year Anniversary - well spent at El Gaucho. Hola y bienvenido to the Vancouver Waterfront, we're happy to have you. I absolutely love the ambiance and aesthetic. Old Hollywood esque' - and if you've seen You People on Netflix (go watch it if you haven't) I mean the upmost respect! When you arrive - they have a complimentary coat check and hostesses awaiting your arrival. We sat in a table on the right side and ordered there spin on a Cadillac Margarita and French 75. Delicious! The El Gaucho house bread - for the love of all that's holy; perfect! Buttery, garlicky and moldy cheesy. The Cesar Salad is prepared fresh at the table side. I would have preferred a few more croutons and perhaps thick shaved Parmesan would hit different and a bit better. Still very refreshing! The Street Corn is cooked in a butter and a must! Same with the lobster mashed potatoes. Yum! The Shrimp and Lobster Cocktail was mixed for me. VERY fresh seafood but I didn't love the salsa cocktail sauce. Plus, deff need atleast 3 times the amount to properly indulge. The Bone In Ribeye is also exceptional and was cooked perfectly. I wish they had creamy horseradish! Only knock is how far the bathroom is from the dining area. Out in the hotel lobby. Only thing that didn't seem premium. Will be back!

Yelp
I've been going to El Gaucho over in Portland for wow, 20 years now. And while it's a fine experience... it's on the other side of the bridge. I had an occasion to celebrate recently and decide that trying the "local" El Gaucho was just what the doctor ordered. The doctor did not disappoint. First, having been to a number of the restaurants on the Vancouver Waterfront - I opted for the valet parking. If you're already whining about that being more than if you'd self-parked this is not the dining experience for you. The way I looked at it was $5 for parking, $5 fee for not having to hike in from wherever I'd been forced to park, $5 fee for not having to make that hike in the rain, and a $3 convenience fee. Money well spent. Being on the ground floor of Hotel Indigo, we opted for pre-dinner drinks at Witness Tree. I'll save that for another review. When it was show time, we descended back to the ground floor, and El Gaucho. You notice the ambiance first - quieter, darker, with impeccably dressed staff in formal livery. It's pinnacle "white tablecloth". And there's no rush -- the table is yours, for the duration. That's a nice change from most dining where table turn rates matter. We started with a bottle of Chateau Lassegue - which was excellent, but likely to be significantly more excellent in say 5-7 years - and the crab cakes. Gordon Ramsey likes to order the crab cakes because it's an easy tell on how things work in the kitchen; I like to order crab cakes because I fucking love crab cakes. They did not disappoint. We followed that with the table side preparation of the Steak Diane, accompanied by the Crispy Brussels sprouts and Sautéed Mushrooms. The steak arrived resting from the grill, and the Diane sauce was very skillfully prepared and then artfully plated. The veggies were clearly just prepared and delightfully presented. Once the table side service departed and we were left to enjoy the meal, it was clear that this was next level. I think this is one of the best meals I've enjoyed out in a very long time. At the conclusion we both decided that desert was right out, but were offered the complementary cheese and fruit plate that came with - which was just exactly right. Roquefort, grapes, a fig/grape compote, water crackers... just enough for a tasting, not enough to be too much. Perfect end to a perfect meal. 11/10 highly recommended

Yelp
Simply the best service in Vancouver. Always top notch. Food is always a 9.5/10. Truly the best spot in Vancouver

Yelp
I hate to give a three but I just felt I spent way too much money for what I got. First off the parking is a nightmare. If you arrive after 530 I would go straight for the parking garage one block west. Some jerk was blocking the valet lane so fortunately I found the $2 garage before getting gouged at the valet. Drinks were ok. My wife got the maple old fashioned. Not very mapley and quite steep for a drink. She got the not so dark and stormy too. It was awful. Our server took it off. We got the table side Caesar. Appreciate the razzle dazzle but again the price tag was very steep. Strong strong garlic and some dental work damaging croutons. The wife got the butternut soup. She was amazed. Best part of the meal, would order it again and again. I got the flaming sword. I definitely appreciated the show. The linguica was really good and the liquor made a great flavor profile. My steaks were unevenly cooked. One piece of filet was under and one just right. One New York was over and the other just right. The sauces were ok. Made a decent combo but not very good on their own. They up sold us on the lobster. I was feeling pretty good from the parking find. It was a little under and just way more money than I thought. The sides were amazing. The mushrooms were a hit. The wife didn't like the Mac and cheese but I did. The service was very friendly and professional but very inconsistent. Spacing of the meal was awkward and spent a long time waiting for drinks. The table side service is great and all but not when it's for the other table while I'm waiting for the check. It just makes the timing of service awkward. All in was almost $300 for the two of us. Appreciate the razzle dazzle but just not worth it.

Yelp
With the expansion of the Vancouver waterfront underway, this new location of El Gaucho is the perfect combination of class and elegance with the already great ambiance and view at which it resides. For those familiar with the Portland location, you won't find a drastic difference in the food (though the food is better here), but definitely when it comes to service and the atmosphere are leaps above. I'm not one that minds spending money on good quality food and your money goes a long with with how you feel during the dining experience. This location is new and I expect it to do very well here, which from the glimpse I got from the amount they were busy just in the first week will not take long to be a staple restaurant of the area. 10/10 recommend and look forward to my next time.

Yelp
The Portland location is our favorite steakhouse in Portland, so it was exciting to have the new Vancouver waterfront location open after years of delay! The menu is very similar to the Portland location, and the food was just as good. It was dark when we went, so we couldn't see the water but the restaurant has large windows all across the top. There are paid parking lots, street parking, and garages nearby. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas, with poinsettias and garland. The tables are more spaced out than at the cramped Portland location which is a plus. They still have live music but the noise isn't as overwhelming since the restaurant is larger. My only complaint about the layout is that the host area is very cramped so there's nowhere to wait before they seat you. As far as the food, I have the same general recommendations and favorite items for here as for Portland: I always get the filet, medium rare. It comes in 8 oz and 12 oz portions, but you can split a 12oz portion between two people and it's the perfect amount for me. I usually get bordelaise, peppercorn, or Roquefort sauce on the side, which are also good with various side dishes as well often. I highly recommend the table side Caesar salad. The dressing has a very strong flavor which I love, but you can ask them to tone down the garlic or the anchovies if you prefer a milder flavor since they are making it right in front of you. I wish it also had toasted pine nuts- I feel like that would take it to the next level flavor wise. For another appetizer, the wicked shrimp is delicious- spicy and buttery, served with bread for dipping in the sauce. For sides, they have seasonal and rotating options for vegetables, but of the standard ones the baked potato and mashed potatoes are standouts, and I have high standards for potatoes. This is the only restaurant that consistently makes mashed potatoes that are better than mine. My husband likes the Mac and cheese, but I often find at the Portland location it is too dry and sometimes the pasta is over cooked. This night at Vancouver was pretty good, but still not particularly special. You get a small complimentary cheese plate after your meal, after which I am often too full for dessert, but once in a while I indulge. Their dessert menu changes often but any type of molten cake or ice cream is always amazing. They have excellent cocktails, with the G-22 dark Manhattan being my favorite, and a great wine list, even if the markups are high. You can bring your own bottle for a corkage fee. The service is excellent. The pacing was slow which I appreciated, though the server apologized for the wait a couple of times. A three or four course meal should take at least an hour and a half for my preference so it was perfect.

Yelp
It was our anniversary and my birthday, they treated us to a complimentary glass of champagne! The server, Mindy was so nice and welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu, drinks etc. it was such a beautiful experience from start to finish. First class staff, food and atmosphere

Yelp
El gaucho is one of the best steakhouses. They have a great menu, great staff, and great rewards program. Always treat great when arriving and during the meal.

Yelp
The place was nice inside especially for the Couv. But I must say their steaks don't knock me out Like they use too. Still love their honey chipotle corn. The mash potatoes are solid. Desserts need some help.

Adam R.

Yelp
Went here for our 5 year anniversary. We go here often but they made this trip special. We were treated like royalty and the food was perfect. Discovered some new drinks with the help of Ed, Joel, and Nick. Haven't had a better dining experience in my life and I've eaten at very end places from Vegas to New York. Very impressed and this Vancouver location has earned my lifetime business. Will be celebrating all my special occasions here from now.

Yelp
Service was phenomenal. Filet mignon was dry. Cooked perfectly medium but meat was cold.. not warm or juicy. Ahi tuna crusted in whole pepper corns and was so peppery and salty it was inedible. I did eat about half of it before my tongue started to pickle itself and form sores. Lobster Mash potatoes was incredibly salty. $450+ later. 3 people. I've had better steaks and ahi for half the price and that's being generous. Service was phenomenal. There I made a **** sandwich. BTW the Portland El Gaucho is incredible and the best steakhouse I've ever eaten at, not the food I've had here. It was the reason I was so excited to give this one a shot. Go there instead!

Yelp
Really nicely furnished up scale restaurant. My ribeye was good but certainly not the best I've ever had. On the other hand my wife's filet was excellent and the lobster mashed potatoes were the best mashed potatoes ever! The service was excellent. In fact when we left and forgot our doggie bag one of the waiters guessed we might have gone upstairs to their lounge (which we had) and ran it up to us. Be prepared to drop at least $400 for 2.

Yelp
I went tonight to celebrate my anniversary and had made a reservation before hand. Valet was pretty easy; I drove up to the hotel next to El Gaucho, a valet got my phone number and texted me a link for me to click when I was ready to get my car. Gave him the key and went over to El Gaucho. Nice atmosphere, it was fairly busy, has almost a smoking lounge-type feel to it, a little on the dark side (which was nice). We were seated within a few minutes, and there was a happy anniversary card on the table (on the reservation I specified that it was my and my wife's anniversary). Our server was very courteous and prompt throughout. Started with drinks and bread, both which were tasty. Also started with the crab cakes, which were awesome. Next up ordered the french onion soup and table-side made Cesar salad. Some of the best french onion soup I've ever had. After that got scalloped potatoes and the El Gaucho steaks, got them medium. They arrived perfectly, some of the best steak I've ever had. Perfectly medium, with a nice sear on the outside. Very melty. It's absolutely how steak should be done. Potatoes were rich and the cheese they used was very delicious. We were offered dessert, which looked fantastic, but we just didn't have room. We were also given a complimentary fruit, cheese, and cracker plate, which was a nice compliment at the end of the meal. I read the reviews so I was a little nervous about service, but tonight it was excellent. We never waited very long to be checked on, and the front host, our main server, and another server all made comments on a happy anniversary. In total we were there about 2 hours. All told, after automatic gratuity (which was completely earned), it was about $310. If I had to nitpick...the lobster medallion on the steak was a little small, and we only got one round of bread. But again, that's nitpicking, that's me trying hard to find something not 100% positive. I would absolutely go again. I've been to the Michael Jordan Steakhouse at the Ilani a few times, and I think the steak here was just a bit better. Oh, and when we went to leave, it was easy getting out. Clicked the link that the valet sent on my phone, we only waited a couple of minutes before they pulled up our car. It was $18 for the 2 hours we were there. Overall I was super impressed!

Yelp
I usually post 4 stars for places that I try for the first time and revisit my reviews to add more stars after trying more stuff on their menu. I made a reservation through their website which was simple and easy. There's valet or the parking garage. But we just take the walk from the public paid parking or street parking. Upon arrival, you're greeted and brought over to your table. We weren't celebrating anything super special, but we noticed those who are celebrating- get a card and some roses. This place is really intimate. A lot of the 2 seater tables are just in the middle of the room though. I'm pretty sure you can request a more intimate booth in your reservation if you would like, if not- you're right in the middle of the open. Our complimentary bread came after the appetizers were finished. We noticed people being served their bread right when they were seated and provided with water. We tried their crab bisque- they placed a good portion of crab in the middle of the soup which was a nice addition. Overall, it was too salty for my liking. Dip the complimentary bread in it! You will not regret it. Wish the bread came sooner though. The rack of lambs were cooked perfectly. My husband got it cooked to medium. The sauce was a good touch- without it, I think it wouldn't have made it to bar for my husband. We got a shareable side of scalloped potatoes and asparagus. The asparagus was meh. It tasted steamed and topped with salt and I think goats cheese? But other than that, nothing special. The scalloped potatoes were served hot and a good portion for sharing. The steelhead was cooked nicely. It was flavorful, flaky, and had a good crust for texture. The lobster claws on top were too rubbery in texture for me. But other than that, it was a delicious entree. If you're not a rewards member, I suggest signing up! You get a $25 gift card for signing up. And for your birthday / anniversary you get $75 gift card. There are additional perks on top of it as well. Overall, not a bad place for fine dining and an intimate date night. We see ourselves coming back again to try other things on their menu and up the star rating. But it's not one where we're already planning a next visit. It is one of those "we should try it" type of places. :)

Yelp
Service is great! Ambiance is very classy and romantic. I was very disappointed in the food. It wasn't bad, I just expected it to be better for the prices they charge.

Yelp
I must say after going to El Gaucho for over 25 years, this Vancouver spot was one of the worse food and service we have received. Our entree's took almost 30-40 mins to come to us after our wedge salads. Then the chicken was very dry and my wife's salmon was a very small portion for $61. Service wasn't the best and almost forgot to offer our fruit and cheese platter!! Not very satisfied and to top of off we went to the Vancouver El Gaucho to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Wow, what a bad experience!

Yelp
The food was good but beware of %20 services fee retaining %100 by El Gaucho plus %8+ tax on top of the bill, tip optional (I usually tip at least %10). Fancy restaurant got to pay the price.

Yelp
Let's see...... El Gaucho, what can I say about it. Decor is decent. Dark swanky. Considering there are almost no fine dining restaurants in the area, I can see why this place gets busy and is the go to for people in the area when celebrating a special occasion. The guest service is stellar. Top notch. The food is nothing special for me. Table side Caesar, although large, was WAAAAY over dressed and just drenched. Taste was decent. French onion soup was a very large portion and decent. Could have had just a tad bit more depth to the stock for me. Escargot, well I would review it on flavor but when it came it had a hair on it, so i never got to taste it and did not want a replacement after that. We had several different versions of their potatoes (scalloped, mashed, table side baked). My friend does not like scallions so we asked for them on the side for me. They forgot them. My Hemingway daiquiri came in a high ball glass on ice with a straw. I immediately looked at my server and said "that's not a Hemingway". He immediately knew what it was SUPPOSED to be and took it back and corrected it. But if he did know, why would he not correct it before he brought it to the table. Anyway the Hemingway was just ok. I've had lots better. The bar was busy as was the dining room, and at least 3 times while we were there the bartender dropped glasses making loud shattering sounds. Maybe she was overwhelmed or green. Anyway, overall it's an ok place. Would I go back again to drop some coin. I'm not sure, I guess I'd have to think about it.

Yelp
I am a huge huge of El Gaucho. I have been visiting the Portland location for years. I was so excited for the Vancouver location to open and I am not disappointed. We sat at the bar which is open seating. The bar is perfect for us because we don't eat large meals. We were lucky to find two seats because this place is hopping. The service at the bar by Matt and Ryan N was amazing, friendly and welcoming. My husband is a bourbon drinker their list of allocated bottles was impressive. We ordered a shot of special El Gaucho Blanton's Barrel Pick. It was delicious and worth the $28 price per shot. For dinner/snacks we ordered Tenderloin Diablo and scalloped potatoes. If you have not had the Diablo steak you need to try, the sauce is incredible. It's a spicy creamy sauce the steak is cut into bite size pieces. The scalloped potato's came in a little crock which would feed 3 people easily. Between the Diablo steak, bread and potatoes we were full. The atmosphere of this new restaurant is stunning, warm and romantic. What a great new addition to the booming downtown Vancouver!

Yelp
This is our second time at El Gaucho Vancouver. My review is based on the total experience of our first and second dinning trip and El Gaucho Portland. First and foremost, there is a noticeable difference in the service. Although I do understand, weekends are usually busy times, it should of course always be taken into account. In both dinning experience our waiter/waitress is trying hard to cover all his/her tables. Often leaving tables unattended for longer times than should. This becomes annoying especially when you're waiting to order your first drink or waiting for your bill. We noticed that some wait staff had help when making the Cesar salad. Our waitress was making the salad at her tables which took away a good 5-10 minutes of service time. I'm not sure if there's isn't enough staff to help out. These little nuances matter when you're shelling out an average of $300 including tip for a party of 2. With that, you expect top notch service and amazing food. Given that Vancouver is fairly a new location, we disregarded the first eh service, but the second time leaves a dent in dinning experience. Other than the service, the food was decent. I often wonder why many steakhouses don't serve steak on a hot iron skillet? Seriously, the steak becomes lukewarm within minutes which really takes away the flavor and overall enjoyment. The plate isn't even warm. I gotta say, Ruth's Chris has the right idea with the iron skillet! In conclusion, I think we'll stick to EG Portland for the amazing service and excellent food.

Yelp
It was ok, not great. I cook better than this, the steak I received was cold. Mashed potatoes needed work. I wasn't impressed We wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Thank you so much Michael for amazing service on my birthday! The food was amazing, with leftovers for an additional 1-2 meals. Filet mignon at "Medium Plus" was a perfect temp for me. The PDX location's "Medium" has always been a bit on the more medium rare side for me personally. Baked potato table side was so yummy. The chocolate torte was delicious. Pork belly starter is also a must- beware the cowboy candy- it is hot! The best part was our "Trolli's" sour gummy worm dish- even tho not technically a "dessert" dish, the joke made our night! The only thing was it was a little warm in the dining room (maybe from the alcohol hehe), but over all a pleasant experience. We will come back to this location due to closeness in the future!

Yelp
We went last night for our anniversary, food of course was excellent. The entire staff was amazing, attentive and friendly, but a huge shoutout to our server Ed! He was superb! The restaurant itself is beautiful, great location.

Yelp
We had a wonderful evening! Top-notch service and food. Probably the best in Vancouver. Definitely the most expensive! Be prepared for $100 plus per person.

Yelp
I recently held an event at El Gaucho Vancouver, and the service, food, and atmosphere were fantastic. We were there to celebrate a significant milestone, and the staff and food at El Gaucho did not disappoint. From the appetizers to the first course to the entree to the dessert. I am glad Vancouver is getting more fine dining options. Kudos, and thank you, El Gaucho, for taking such care with my event. We will definitely come again, and I recommend anyone to patronize such a fine establishment.

Yelp
I've had better steak at chain steak restaurants like Rustlers and Outback. It was $80 and it was between 1/2" and 3/4 " thick at best, over cooked and filled with gristle. Sent it back. Replacement steak was a bit better but not much and certainly not worth $80 !!!!!!! Comes with NO sides AT ALL. Baked potato was $11 and if you want butter, sour cream, bacon they were $6 EACH !!!!!!! I ordered a martini and asked the server to have an onion and an olive in it. EACH, the onion and the olive were an additional $6 !!!!!! A twenty dollar martini ??????? WAY WAY WAY overpriced. Average food. GREAT service though.

Yelp
Very happy this place finally opened! I live on the Waterfront and was hoping this would live up to the Portland or Bellevue location. I would say yes for sure! Quality food and great service.
