The 26 Best Restaurants in Anchorage, Alaska | Eater

"At this seasonal walk-up taco truck in Downtown Anchorage all the proteins – including pork, tofu, chicken, brisket and Alaska salmon and halibut – are smoked with local birch and alder. It’s a great spot for a local fish taco with good gluten free and vegan options." - Julia O'Malley

Google
Delicious tacos and burritos, both the standard street tacos we all know and love as well as some inventive twists. Halibut tacos were amazing! The smoke from the BBQ smelled soooo good too. Not a ton of seating and it's all outdoor.

Jesper Malmberg

Google
Wow, very tasty Mexican food at a good price. I got the Mex plate with pork which was delicious. They have their own smoker just outside where they were smoking all their meat. After I ordered I saw them tending to the smoker, next time I'll try the brisket for sure!

Lava

Google
UMMMM SO GOOD!!!! These tacos were incredible. Absolutely get the halibut tacos street style - you will not regret it. My tip - You have to pay extra for salsa and probably don't need it. Only negative for this place is that the smoke from the smoker may blow directly at you while waiting for food and eating given where it's placed. Overall, HIGHLY recommend

Michele

Google
This is the first place we ate at in Anchorage. I see why it has high ratings. The service is fast, the food is delicious, and the area is clean and pretty. I ordered the halibut street tacos and my husband ordered one chicken and one brisket street tacos.

Alex

Google
Yummy tacos, burrito and other Mexican street food in a outdoor setting. Everything is self service from queuing up for ordering to collecting your meal and to clear your own table if you're having your meal at their outdoor tables.

El Green Go's Mexican restaurant is one of the highlights of an afternoon of walking or biking in Anchorage. Don't be fooled by the size of the place. They serve big flavor in every dish. Tried the Street Tacos (Salmon and Halibut), Nachos with Brisket and the Burrito and all were fresh, flavorful and well prepared. And the portions will cure any appetite. They are very ample portions. The service was fast and friendly and our selections were accurate. The atmosphere was quaint with just a few tables but a great chance to eat in a community style and sit with folks you meet. But the restaurant is just steps from the waterfront where you can take your food and eat with a view. Parking can be challenging if you're there during the week. But on the weekend, street parking is free. The menu is good for adults and children.

Google
Everything about this place is amazing! Just being available for summer only makes it a novelty experience. Everyone needs to visit Alaska at least once in their life and I’d say the same thing about El Green-Go’s

Jason Embry

Google
Easily the best meal we had while in Anchorage. Delicious, fast and friendly. The breakfast tacos were on point and the drip coffee was good and strong.

Yelp
Still delicious. Still reasonably priced. Still amazingly nice people. The end. Where oh where is their year round brick and motor store?! $11 for two tacos with a side of chips. Also got a Mexican coke. Delicious!! This time I got pork and it was very good.

Yelp
The setting was so calm and nice to sit down and enjoy food with friends or family. The service was very friendly and inviting. So far this is the best Mexican food I've had since being in Alaska (1 year) but please keep in mind it is not traditional Mexican food. The meat was beautifully cooked and seasoned. There was only 2 critiques I could think of and their mostly suggestions that I think most patrons would like as well. 1. To give napkins with the food. It seems everyone had to go ask for napkins, I think it should be a standard to hand them out when handing out the food. And/or potentially a napkin stand. 2. Wipe down the tables at least every hour. Overall great establishment would suggest going with people and sitting on their patio area.

Yelp
The only negative of El Green-Go's is that they ain't open all year! This is one of Anchorage's absolute summer gems. I often call ahead and then drive over from work to indulge in one of these girthy burritos for lunch. They are the perfect mix of sweet and smoke and spice and savory. My go-to is a brisket breakfast burrito. Yes, they are ala carte and don't come with the usual frills (chips, beans, rice, etc.) but...they really don't need that stuff. I'd much rather have a better burrito than have an inferior one that "comes with chips". So glad they are back, already sad for when they go into hibernation again :(

Susan Z.

Yelp
Super friendly people; came for a late lunch during the week and not crowded. Decent amount of outdoor seating and picnic tables large enough to share. The food? Superb! Fun find while traveling

Kitty K.

Yelp
Just FYI the food is not traditional Mexican at all. I ordered a chicken burrito with the roasted poblano sauce. It had a very smoky flavor - much more like a Southern barbeque than anything Mexican. I'm not sure if it was the sauce or the chicken as well, as they grill everything with spices on their outdoor grill. I'm willing to try it again, but will get something different and keep you posted. Also it is pretty expensive. My burrito cost $20 (with tip, which is basically required since they make place your tip before your food is prepared).

Yelp
El Green Go's is a food stand in downtown Anchorage. The food here is simple but delicious. They serve fish tacos and their salsas are excellent. I had a smoked salmon spread special topped with thinly sliced red onion and fried capers that was amazing. A treat was that I got watch them cooked the fresh fish as I waited for my order. Do not miss!

Yelp
We LOVE this food truck! We aren't from Alaska, but ever since we tried El Green-Go's Tacos two years ago, we've been dreaming of coming back. After two long years of waiting, we finally had the chance to enjoy it again, and it was well worth it! The brisket is still phenomenal! Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection! The seasoning is great too. I got the Mexi plate which isn't your traditional Mexican food. They've added their own creative flair to the tacos and their menu, but it works perfectly! The watermelon with brisket tacos is our favorite and it is surprisingly a good combination. It is refreshing and savory at the same time. We were also lucky enough to meet Tyler while he was checking on the smoked brisket. Such a friendly guy! He shared that they started with a small smoker and now have a bigger one to handle demand. It's great to see their growth, and you can really see the passion for what they do. If you're in the area, don't miss out. I highly recommend this spot, and we're already looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
What?!?? Amazing smoked salmon dip with pickled red onions and fried capers. They also have a great selection of fish tacos.

Yelp
I first ate here about 3 years ago on my first visit to Anchorage. We were doing the tourist thing when I saw smoke coming out of a stack followed by the smell of brisket in the air. Needless to say I had to eat here and it left an impression on me then. A couple days ago, we were back. The smoker was going and the briskets were cooking. We ordered 2 jarritos, 1 order of brisket southern tacos, 1 order of chicken street tacos, fish tacos in Green-Go style (1 halibut and 1 salmon) , and a brisket mexi plate. Tacos were as memorable as the first time as we practically inhaled all our food. Watermelon on anything should be a thing as this is a stroke of genius to me. Servers are always friendly and the staff is very helpful. Seating is somewhat limited as they have a couple tables for 2 and several large picnic tables. All outdoor seating. When in Anchorage, we will be back for this again!

Amy P.

Yelp
There was a wait of about 15 minutes. But it was worth the wait. I had Green-go tacos with chicken. It was moist and delicious. There are seats in front of the truck but we decided to take it to our hotel room. Highly recommended!

Shirleen S.

Yelp
Food is sooo gooood!!! I'm so happy my husband suggested we check this place out. Definitely worth it! Flavor in every bite, we will definitely be back to try more items on the menu!!
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
Food was really good and very happy to have stopped to eat at EL GREEN-GO. Fish tacos were definitely delicious
google avatar

Jesse P.

Yelp
Metered parking available. A few picnic tables and other small tables all outside. Order at the window where the food is also delivered pretty fast. We both got the pork burritos, wet style. One was green chili and one was salsa verde. The pork was off the smoker and had nice crispy edges which I really enjoyed. I wouldn't call it the most Mexican burrito I've ever had but still quite tasty. A lot of food for the price in Alaska standards. Go check out out
google avatar

Shay K.

Yelp
In love with this place. Halibut Tacos are great. I love their sauce choices too, black bean coconut is great. The poblano sauce is great on the fish too. I also really like their homemade chips.

Yelp
Found this gem during our trip to Anchorage. The food and service were awesome! We need this in Orange County California

Yelp
Was in Anch for a week, and I've officially been here 4 times. Two super valuable things kept us coming back: the illustriously friendly vibes of the service and reliable deliciousness of the food. I sadly don't remember her name but someone was rocking the front: she was a major extravert, so friendly and had rockin eyeliner! Please praise her if you go. The food run-down: Burrito - get it wet! So filling and so flavorful Mexi-plate- deconstructed burrito vibes, get the chips and get dippin! Green-go tacos - yummy, great value Street tacos - best taco here, the watermelon is next level Any protein is good. I've had the pork, beef, and tofu. For tofu lovers (and non-lovers) this is the most flavorful Smokey tofu I've ever eaten. So comparable, yet different, in flavor to the other proteins. Highly recommend. There's only outdoor seating. We sat in the rain multiple times and it was WORTH IT. If that tells you anything. TLDR: I think I saw a sign on the place that said best taco place in AK, that sign tells no lies.
google avatar

Dixie N.

Yelp
Witawawee the best tacos in town, authentic Mexican cuisine with an Alaskan twist. The higher price of the food is well worth it and still affordable. With seating available this is the perfect place for a first date or just a casual meet up with friends. This place needs to grow into a restaurant that is open year round, it doesn't even compare to the other options around the anchorage bowl. For the reasons stated this delicious food truck receives a 91/100 score. Keep up the good work sincerely- Dixie Normous

Gunjan S.

Yelp
Really fresh and flavourful mexica food, great service and lots of options to choose from. Space is limited, takeout is quick.

Yelp
Food - unbelievable flavor, presentation, and ingredients. The chips are a bit of a let down. Everything was delicious. Due to weather (see below) it was a little hard to enjoy. I would definitely take this go next time. Service - its, well...ummm... it's good. Like, as a food truck, you do everything. They don't serve anything. They take orders and shout a name. Cleanliness - All of the seating is outside. On the particular day when I went, there was a lot of wind which made it both difficult to hold down the food, and a little cold. Not their fault. But it also meant things were blowing around a bit. The trash can is around the corner behind where you order. It's a little out of the way. Ambiance - if a delicious smelling smoker doesn't say it all, I'm not sure what will. Just wish they would maybe throw some brisket in there! Notables - all the sauces including the queso are vegan (I think I got that right) but they taste amazing.
google avatar

Kyle L.

Yelp
This place is incredible!! Great vegan option, too! One of the best burritos I've ever had. And the staff are great.
google avatar

Pierre M.

Yelp
I have to say I see what they're trying to do but tacos are too expensive and no flavor. They should just probably stick to something that they know will impress their crowd. The scenery is nice when weather is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
If you order a burrito from El-Green-Go's make sure you are either 1) extremely hungry 2) sharing it with someone 3) taking half home for 4th meal while you bingewatch something on Netflix. It is a brobdignagian burrito. It's quite quite delicious, whether with pork or chicken (I've not tried the other options, so I can't speak for those) and I highly recommend the moreish Black Bean Coconut Queso - which is a "Get It Wet" option, and the one I always select. Not something you find in the average Mexi restaurant, and its existence is one of the reasons I consistently return to El-Green-Go's. Another favourite is the Mexi Plate, I love it, and it is more lightweight than the burrito - you can manage to eat it all by yourself without feeling violently Ill. Unlike the time i couldn't stop eating the burrito and was so stuffed I felt unwell the whole night. I have only myself to blame for this episode of unbridled greed. It has been most enjoyable eating in the small parking lot here, even during the pandemic. I'm dying to try some of the breakfast options. But it's one of my current favourites and I recommend them.
google avatar

Karl A.

Yelp
I'm so glad we were walking around down town Anchorage. We had no idea what we were hungry for when we came across the El Green Go trailer. I needed something light to balance out the heavy meals I had been eating all week. The Street Tacos seemed like they would fit the bill. The friendly staff took our order and only a few short minutes later I had the food in hand. The tacos were AMAZING! The cheese and poblano sauce was smooth and savory. Every ingredient was fresh and bursting with flavor. I would go back in a heartbeat! Such a great dining experience! Thank you!

F B.

Yelp
Contaminated Food and Non-Food item were served at El Green-Go's on August 16, 2023, around 6:50 pm. About halfway through my Green-Go Taco w/Halibut, I bit down on a foreign object (photos attached/dime used as reference). It felt like a solid plastic piece with sharp edges.

Yelp
Get the Southern Tacos with Pork! OUTSTANDING! Watermelon Fresca Tacos - GENIUS! My daughter and I are hungry and downtown. My other daughter on a special diet said there's this cool little food truck/trailer called El Gringo's down by Simon & Seaforts in a side parking lot and it's good. She had just ate. I was like very cool a taco place we'll check it out. Oh it's actually called EL GREEN-GO'S, LOL! We got a menu and they had a couple picnic tables and I saw protein choices of pork, chicken, beef, halibut and salmon. Darn they were out of halibut so my daughter and I both picked pork. I picked the Southern Taco! Watermelon on a taco who was the genius that paired those two up? It works! Leila ordered the Street Tacos. Smokey pork on both but the uniqueness of Watermelon Fresca was just tantalizing to my tastebuds. We decided to bring home 2 more orders my wife and her mom for lunch. All were happy as they agreed to the uniqueness of watermelon! Try it!

Bakarie W.

Yelp
They had this burrito that was fye and the green go chicken tacos phew. Too fye!! I left alaska and im still thinking bout them tacos.

ODawnO D.

Yelp
The southern tacos! Who knew watermelon on smoked brisket would be that good. So much flavor. Best I've had in a very long time.
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
It's good. Nicely elevated, New-American street burritos with an Alaskan take -- I thought the fish burritos were fantastic and quite sizeable. A few misc observations: 1. make sure you pack some sauces to go, they don't get packed automatically and a lot of what they got there is nicely flavored (and prob boutique-y?) 2. the verbal tipping thing kinda threw me off on my togo order -- the way the cashier phrases thing it seems like the cashier expects a 15-25% tip. I get it service industry is rough and hustlers gotta hustle, but it was just kinda jarring to me that this was expected on a to-go order.
google avatar

Cary C.

Yelp
Best Food truck in Anchorage without question, they are super nice, but the food is the star. The Tex-Mex is amazing , but so much more the fresh halibut and salmon are amazing, and they do their own Bar-B-Q on a site downtown that is about the size of a postage stamp where the truck is located. They are easy to find, just take 4th Ave toward the water and it dead-ends at El Greengos. There are lots of good places to eat in Anchorage, but the food at this stop is great. Any line is worth the wait. You won't regret grabbing a meal here if you're in Anchorage.

Mikayla W.

Yelp
Best place for a quick bite in the sun. Service is good. Atmosphere is good. Food is the best!! ITS ALL GOOD !!
google avatar

Jen C.

Yelp
From scratch macaron madness- cookies n cream!! Noms! In love with this food truck! Best Huevos Rancheros with grilled AK salmon is the best!!!! No pic b/c it's in my BELLY! LOL!
google avatar

Natalie P.

Yelp
Don't miss out on this seasonal taco stand! Their food is always fresh and full of flavor and I love the smell of brisket smoking when you get nearby. Also a huge plus for me that I can always get breakfast! The breakfast plate is usually my go to but I recently tried the mole huevos. OMG the mole! I can't believe I haven't had it there before. Staff is always super friendly and helpful as well! I love the vibes this place always has. Definitely one of my favorite places to go all summer before they close for the season! The line may be long but it's always worth it.

Nanette J.

Yelp
By far the best food I've ever had here in anchorage!!! I am so happy that my husband told me about this establishment!! Best street tacos I've ever had and I'm going to try everything on the menu!!! Thanks so much!! And I will see you tomorrow!!!
google avatar

Rosi R.

Yelp
This is one of the very few restaurants in Anchorage that I willingly come back to almost all the time! And it's actually more of a truck! Restaurants here are very hit or miss for me, but you can't go wrong here. The food is very lean and doesn't leave me feeling sluggish or gross afterwards. The workers are always friendly so that's a plus. I always get the huevos rancheros; they come with a tortilla base, pico de gallo, eggs (I get them over easy), queso cotija, this corn mixture (not sure what it's called but it's tasty), rice, black beans, chili verde, and this cilantro crema I believe. Along with your choice of protein. I always get the pork; they barbecue everything right outside so it always has a smoky flavor. Everything just combines so well and tastes so fresh. It's not over seasoned; but the flavors just taste so natural like no extra additives. They have a lot of vegan options as well. You'd have to try it to understand!
google avatar

Natasha P.

Yelp
Wanted to try the salmon and halibut but they were out for the day (I'm assuming that's the popular option). We had the pork taco and chicken taco and even tried the tofu taco. I think try the salmon and halibut if you can!
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
If you're looking for amazing tacos come here. The smoke on the meat combined with fresh toppers and amazing flavored sauces is off the charts. Each layer offers its own flavor note and no additions are needed. Get the trifecta tacos in all one meat then come back and try them all in another meat. Today I went with all chicken. Order up 1 Street 1 Southern 1 Green-Go You will NOT be disappointed!!!! Go show them some love!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
This place is SO GOOD. Food was delicious and fresh. Portions huge - a very good value. Service was quick and friendly - I'd highly recommend for a quick lunch stop!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
This place by far has some of the best tacos in town. From the locality grown ingredients to the many options catering to every body's needs. I myself have a dairy intolerance and they where able to accommodate. On a Keto diet? They have options for that as well. Go by and check them out! You won't be disappointed :)

Yelp
Ordered some street tacos from this food truck. Food was decent, especially for Alaskan standards... I appreciated the high quality ingredients, and they seem to put a lot of care into the food they make. What I didn't care for was the customer service. First off, the cashier asks you if you would like to tip 15, 20, or 25%. The fact that this is verbal and for everyone around you to hear, immediately puts you in an awkward situation... say no and it feels like you just spat in their face. Plus, you have no idea if their food is any good or not, so how can you tip appropriately beforehand? It's unnecessary societal pressure in a public setting that's put on the customer, and no other establishment I've been to has done this so blatantly since COVID (the cashier can easily use "clean/dirty" pens or sanitize the touchscreen for each transaction). I try to support local businesses, but many families in some way or another have also felt the financial burdens since COVID became a part of their lives. The other thing that really irked me was the "hidden" to-go fee they sneakily charged when I looked at my e-mailed receipt. The cashier does not tell you this up front, nor did I see this displayed anywhere around the premises. It's a small fee, but the lack of transparency makes it feel like they're stealing some change out of your pocket. Lastly, the food truck does not offer a physical menu... you have to use a QR code on your phone to look at their menu. I was riding my bicycle when I stopped at this place... and personally prefer to be detached to my phone while out enjoying the great outdoors that AK has to offer. Don't like customers touching menus? Plenty of other food trucks has it taped to the front or written on a chalkboard. I rode away paying $25 for 2 orders of street tacos. Overall, I may go back again because their food is pretty good. But will probably pay them in cash next time. Having that feeling after leaving an establishment of being ripped off really puts a sour taste in your mouth.

Jody D.

Yelp
I got the halibut tacos & they were delicious. Was tempted to try the brisket as it was smoking right next to me & smelled so good. Maybe next visit. The halibut tacos were not cheap @ $20 but really good.

Taylor R.

Yelp
Halibut tacos (Green-go style) Exceptional tacos!! Some of our favorite food in a week long Alaska trip. Had to go back before the airport !

Yelp
I was fortunate enough to have a few extra minutes for my lunch break earlier today that I decided to make the drive to the west end of downtown in the nice weather. El Green-Go's is a food stand located on the corner of 4th and L St. across from Snow City Cafe and International House of Hot Dogs (another amazing place). There was a line quickly building once I got down there which makes me relieved that I had called and placed my order ahead of time for pick-up without losing precious minutes for lunch. I read from other reviews that El Green-Go's has Keto options for their tacos which substitutes a cheese shell in place of the regular corn tortilla. Intrigued, I decided to go with the Keto version of their namesake El Green-Go tacos (marinated pork, jalapeno creme fraiche....absolutely amazing, corn fresca, shaved cabbage, and cotija cheese with a side of guacamole). The five stars are well deserved for this place. The tacos were phenomenal with the pork prepared in an eighteen-spice house rub (Wow!) for tons of flavor. The jalapeno creme fraiche was an excellent addition for the other ingredients along with the freshly prepared guacamole. The menu boasts a breakfast and lunch selection, all of them with versatile ingredients like the El Green-Go tacos. There is a good variety of proteins to choose for your dish which includes pork, chicken, tofu, halibut, and salmon. They are all prepared with that eighteen-spice house rub. I will have to order the Street Tacos with AK salmon on my next visit. For an extra $2, you can order your dish "Wet" with four variations of sauces: Roasted Poblano, Green Chili Ranchero, Nacho, and Black Bean Coconut Queso. All of their ingredients are sourced locally and this is a perfect establishment to show your support for small businesses. The only caveat I have for this place is that there is literally no parking available at this intersection. You would have to park down the street or in one of the city-designated parking lots nearby before you reach this place. El Green-Go's is so popular that they were also featured on the Food Network. I can't stress enough for you to come down here and try them out.

Yelp
While on vacation in Anchorage, Ak, we stumbled upon this little coach taco stand. We were heading to the Coastal Trail, and got hungry so we stopped. I had the street tacos with brisket. The tacos were full size tortillas, and filled with deliciously smoked brisket and topped with onions and a tiny bit of cotija. I was asked if I wanted poblano sauce, and since it sounded good, I got that. While I enjoyed the tacos, I did not find any poblano sauce. I found a little cup with pasilla sauce that was tasty, it was not spicy or poblano (poblano means a green, fresh chile). The other thing is that the tacos were not very hot, I got lukewarm tacos. They were topped with way too many onions, and not enough cilantro, but that is of course a personal choice. The onions were cut to the perfect size for a taco, and not overpowering thanks to some unknown process (to me, at least). My husband got a brisket burrito. The burrito was a good size burrito and he said it was very tasty. He could not finish it because it was cold. He does not like cold food, so he did not finish his burrito. All in all, the food was surprisingly good, even though it was kind of cold for us. Would I eat here again, YES!!! I would just ask to make sure my food was served very hot, go light on the onion and add a little more cilantro.

Yelp
I saw this food truck out of the window of my hotel at the Captain Cook and thought we would try it. I have to tell you my whole group of 6 thought these were some of the best Tacos we have ever had. I live in Chicago with a large Hispanic community and none of the restaurants here beat El Grin Go's. The front person and owners were very nice and friendly. Must try if ever in Anchorage.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Their consistency has proven themselves worthy of star number five! They have become my go to when I need just a little bit of comfort.

Yelp
Holy cow!! So, I was waitlisted at the busy touristy breakfast spot across the street from El Green-Go's. Mistaking it for a coffee shop, I crossed the street to check it out. After one look at the menu, I canceled my wait at the other restaurant and pulled up a picnic table. What I ordered was a breakfast burrito, what I got was easily one of the top five breakfasts of my life! This thing was huge! When you ate it, it was a festival of amazing flavors perfectly blended on the plate. Each bite brought a different mix of ingredients that brought out a different aspect of the meal. Outstanding! I cannot recommend El Green-Go's enough. When you are in downtown Anchorage, this stop is an absolute must!!

Yelp
I'm not even sure where to start, but here we go. I've enjoyed my meals downtown at their L st location. Let me heartily recommend their catering! We ordered both vegan and non vegan dishes on a taco fajita barAll seasoned and cooked to perfection. Halibut, tofu, chicken, and delicious veggies. The salsas and salads were fresh and amazing! Even the venue owner and wedding planner were impressed with the food and the fact that Tyler and his crew staged the banquet table beautifully! I would recommend El Greengos for any event, or just grabbing a good meal downtown!

Mike F.

Yelp
After waiting 45 minutes for 2 Burritos they were ice cold. They did recook them but it was a complete Cluster. I've eaten here several times and have watched the quality steadily go down
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
The food is pretty good. Halibut burrito is bomb. But here's the issue: they sneak charges in in a questionable way. When you order at the window, they'll ask if you want your burrito wet. They don't tell you it's an extra $2.00. While it's on the virtual menu, I didn't notice it because it's in a different section than the rest of menu. Okay, fine. Then there is a "to-go fee" of $0.75. They do not tell you this and it is not on the menu. What the heck is a "to-go fee"? You want me to pay more by removing any trash from your premises? Not cool. The cashier then asks you how much you want to tip: 15, 20, or 25 percent. COVID is still certainly a concern, but pretty much every other eating establishment has "clean/dirty" pens or uses touchscreens to do tip. Supporting restaurant employees is good; however, pressuring customers to do so is not. This is particularly the case when the tip is on top of the aforementioned hidden fees. And lastly, receipt is not a default. They don't even offer one to you. Any of these individually is more or less benign. But all of these put together smells of an effort to coax more money out of customers' pockets. With a few unwitting nods and a bit of social pressure, your $14.00 burrito became ($14.00 + $2.00 + $0.75) x 1.2 = $20.10. Ordering a burrito for lunch should not be akin to applying for a credit card. Charge whatever you want, but either be transparent and tell your customers your fees upfront while they're ordering, or get rid of these questionable practices. In the meantime, despite the quality food, I will not be returning, especially when Snow City across the street is somehow more affordable when all is said and done.
