"El Guero is for the people, as evidenced by the wide array of folks who frequent the restaurant. Families split large combo plates, buddies share trays of nachos, and everyone eyeballs the fajitas and enchiladas as they pass." - Krista Diamond, Farley Elliott

Google
Amazing food! The enchiladas were great and the chips n salsa as well! I’d definitely come back to this restaurant! Service was great as well! It made my day! 10/10 spot🙌🏽

Ordered a breakfast burrito which was really good. The restaurant only had 1 other patron. Food took awhile to be made but taste made up for it. Pretty good overall.

We stoped here when we went to Joshua park, people are very kind, the restaurant is clean and so delicious!

Google
This place is fairly popular! We dash orders from here frequently, so we visited Super Bowl Sunday, and the game was playing on a large flat screen. Service was prompt and friendly. We had burritos, mine was a Chile relleño burrito I couldn't pass up. The place was packed but was hardly no wait time. Customers coming in and leaving in a clock work rotation. My only complaint was the price. It felt like all though the burritos were delicious, they should have been accompanied by rice and beans. I've basket of chips and spicy salsa was served on the house. We will return for sure.

Over last 4 of last 6 years it was hit and miss but there was Covid in there. So today we gave them another try! And I’m so glad we did! I’m not sure if it’s new ownership or management but different employees. Great service friendly food was excellent and they weren’t stingy with the servings! This is one of two great Mexican restaurants in the area. Tried one last night that will remain nameless, but not even close to El Guerro.

Google
The place looks very casual, but offers a great variation of food options. We had tostada de ceviche de camaron, tostada de ceviche de pescado; guac, and flan, — everything was really good. So the chips and salsa were. Service was simple but pleasant. Overall, it is a good place for a casual dining, I would definitely consider to come back.

Google
Hands down, this is probably the best Mexican Eatery I've ever been to!! Family owned and the food is so fresh and soooo good! The atmosphere is cute and it's not noisy. Portions were big and you get free chips & salsa. Everything was literally to die for and this will be our new favorite spot in Joshua Tree!!!

Google
Great prices on food and Drinks on Friday. There was one waitress working the entire place and she killed it better than some of these Restaurants in town that are fully staffed. Excellent Customer Service and Attentiveness. Food was Great, we will be coming back.

Yelp
We stopped by after KOH .. everything was Phenomenal!! Customer service & food quality was amazing !! Their chips & salsa was so fresh & so addicting!! I had their trio combo .. the beans was so creamy and savory and proteins & warm tortillas were so satisfying!! I want to come back and try more food on their menu ! My entire group of 10 loved this spot!! We all left happy !!

Yelp
Super Attentive & friendly and had fast service food came out warm and very delicious

Yelp
Good food and service with a smile makes you feel welcomed. A little small spot but it's worth it.

Yelp
Yesterday I ate at El Guero Mexican Grill.. I ordered simple ONE chicken enchalada, ONE chili relleno rice and beans...add a small glass of wine.. When I received bill which wasn't itemized...just $31.52....That is way to expensive!!! The food was ok but not great...

Yelp
Reviewed by a Mexican; We stopped by on our way home from Arizona and this place did not disappoint. Homemade aguas were delicious We loved our foood and the service was very good. There was only 1 girl that was the waiter and cashier at the same time and although she was very busy she was very sweet and the food came out very fast. Highly recommend this gem!

Julie W.

Yelp
Food was delicious though a bit pricey (isn't it everywhere these days). Ambiance was fine, nothing fancy.

Amparo G.

Yelp
I know good quality food means you have to wait. But, how long? I stopped by to get a quick bite to go. The waitress took the order but forgot to mention that there are numerous orders in the making. I waited for 45 minutes for a breakfast burrito! I know I should have left, but I had already paid and I was hungry. The food was decent, but I will not be coming back here. If you stop here, make sure you ask how long your order will take.

Yelp
I moved out here to yucca valley from Riverside and I live with grandparents that keep it old school and cook dinner every night but Tuesday is free night and we usually always come here. The food is great but honestly nothing compares to the girls/servers... they go above and beyond and are always super nice. I'm a server myself so I appreciate good hospitality. Shout out to the woman named Paula or pearl (sorry if the names wrong she told me 100 times but I suck with names) ANYWAYS.... Definitely recommend

Yelp
Where to start because there were so many was in which this *$60 meal for 2* was a crime. I ordered online around 4:45pm for the food to be picked up at 5:45pm and it was very clear that they made it at 4:45pm because everything was *cold*. However, the fries appeared to never have been fresh. They were so stale like from a batch in the morning or the day before. My husband and I both found appeared to be *fruit flies* or some other bugs in our dishes. I ordered a large sized of rice and beans, which used to be a lot bigger. On top of all of this, the prices are just outrageous for the food. Which I realize is a lot of places here, but this place especially for what we got in return. They also added a service fee which I didn't eve notice until after because they hid it, which I am sure doesn't go to employees. I would also bet, based on the locations of people who are posting 5 star reviews that they are paying for reviews. Never going back to this place and I suggest you do the same. No respect for their customers. No pride in their food.

Tanner J.

Yelp
Do not use Door Dash to order from this location. They will confirm an order even if the item is out of stock and call you claiming they can't cancel it (they can) and that you need to choose something else or cancel the order on your end (which means they'll be paid and you won't get a refund). Very shady.

Yelp
My family is in town so I'm looking for a place for us to all have breakfast. I called and a kind young woman answered. I asked her if they cooked their eggs in "Seed Oils" and she said, "No... just regular oil"... I asked her what that might be and she said, "Canola oil"... (That IS a very toxic seed oil). Guess we'll be eating at home again where my eggs are cooked variably in delicious lard, tallow, ghee or butter). When will the public and restaurants learn that Seed Oils are toxic and persist for up to 20 years in the body causing inflammation and diabetes? When?

Yelp
NOM NOM NOM!!! Legit Mexican food. The homemade hot sauce is Fast service and friendly staff.

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Highly recommend if you're in the area. Amazing service! Friendly employees, fast service and their food was absolutely delicious. I got their ceviche de Cameron tostada and inhaled it. Will definitely be coming back!

John M.

Yelp
Provender: this is a great spot to grab some Mexican food before you enter Joshua Tree National Park. The food is just like you can get in Los Angeles. I ordered the carne asada burrito and it was delicious, just like the ones I get I my local spots. Prices: Reasonable considering you're out in the desert. A carne asada burrito will run you a little under $10. Parking: ample. The restaurant is located in a large shopping plaza, anchored by Stater Bros market. You shouldn't have any difficulty finding any parking. People: Fun for all. Perks: they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was excellent and very attentive. They also serve Micheladas, so you can get your booze fix.

Yelp
Our first time hear and we chose to sit outside at one of two tables since the weather was nice. A server greeted us and acknowledged that we we're going to sit outside and let us know our waitress will be right with us. The service was really slow so I went inside to get our menu's and eventually our waitress brought our chips and salsa. We ordered nachos and tacos which made up for the slow service as both choices were simply delicious. The salsa is made on site and was by far the best salsa we've ever had. After waiting for our waitress to clear the table and bring our check I went inside to pay only to be told our waitress will be with us soon. I decided to walk next door to pick up a few groceries while my husband waited for the waitress to bring our check. After returning from my grocery shopping My husband was still waiting for our waitress and it's for this slow service I fave 4 stars. We will come back because our dinner was really good. Hopefully the slow service was just an off night and will. E much quicker next time.

Yelp
This is our go-to for authentic Mexican food in the upper desert and it never disappoints. Love their burritos, posole, pollo asada, taquitos, and nachos. So good! And friendly service too.

Ernie M.

Yelp
The food here is very good and inexpensive, taco Tuesday is great with $1 carnitas or pastor tacos. Service fast and friendly with lots of food options to choose from. The inside is clean and comfortable with sports on the one TV.

John W.

Yelp
Workers seem to be having fun with each other chatting it up. Maybe that's why it takes over 40 minutes to make some burritos. This place was empty it still takes 40+ minutes for some burritos. Make sure your prepared to wait longer and don't come if your in a rush

Amelia R.

Yelp
This place is poppin'! We came here midday on a Saturday based on Yelp reviews. The carne asada plate, carne asada quesadilla plate, chilequiles, and the wet burrito were all amazing. We don't want fancy MX food, we want authentic MX food! We all couldn't stop raving about the frijoles puercos -- absolutely amazing and worth it.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
The order came really fast. The woman working was super nice, fast and helpful! Love her efficiency. Came here because another place we wanted to go to was too packed. Restaurant is spacious and is offering sit-down but we were ordering to-go. Like I said the woman working as register, secretary, and waitress on a Saturday night was a super star! Even with the mean customers she worked with confidence and Grace. Told us our food would take 15 minutes and it came out in less than 10! Shout out to the kitchen staff

Daisy M.

Yelp
Food was great, authentic Mexican food. Service was great. I would definitely come here again if I visit the area.

Lisa M.

Yelp
So delicious. Came here for the first time when a friend recommended it. Delicious and fresh tacos (I had the Al pastor and grilled fish). Super fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection and the fresh home made salsa they offered when they served the tacos was just the right touch. Very family and kid friendly and fast and friendly service. My new favorite spot in Joshua Tree.

Yvonne L.

Yelp
Food was delicious! I got the chilé relleno plate and it hit the spot for me! My daughter had the shredded beef and my daughter said the meat was perfect along with the green salsa. Her friend had the chilequiles with carne asada & she said it was amazing! The staff was super friendly! Only disappointment is it's small, so go early!

Michael M.

Yelp
Horrible service, I called wanting to place an order for pickup and they answered right away and told me to hold on... I was waiting for 7+ minutes on the phone and no one came on to take my order. I go inside all the time and they are not busy what so ever so I don't know why they had me waiting over 7 minutes on the phone. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

Marnie K.

Yelp
This was a great early dinner stop on our way back, after leaving triple digit temps in Joshua Tree NP. Food was legit, friendly service. We got some of the fish tacos, an enchilada and taco combination plate, and queso.

Barnali D.

Yelp
We ordered tacos from El Guero via DoorDash for lunch today, and had a great experience! The food was flavorful, the online ordering experience was smooth, and the food arrived on time. Our family of 3 adults and 1 child ordered 8 tacos in all (3 per adult, 2 per child), and it was plenty of food. The al pastor tacos and shrimp tacos were our favorites. The grilled chicken and grilled fish tacos were good, too. We appreciated the fact that they provided a variety of fresh, tasty salsas, along with fresh lime wedges. The DoorDash experience was smooth and easy, and the restaurant accepted the order right away, which was great. The food arrived fairly quickly. Overall, we had a great lunch and would definitely order again!

Marcos L.

Yelp
El Guero's Mexican restaurant is one of, if not the best Mexican restaurant in this area. I called at 250pm having forgotten what day today was and wanted to place an order. They told me to go ahead with my order even though they closed at 3pm for New Year's Eve. I got the nachos trio that comes with chicken, shrimp, and steak. Not only was it ready my the time I went to pick it up at 258pm but it tasted great. This is just another reason why this place is my go too for Mexican food.

Dayna M.

Yelp
They were very busy when we arrived for take out and the two women working the front were working hard and seemed overwhelmed. We finally ordered and were told take out would take 45 minutes. So we came back. We got two margaritas to go and they were the worst margaritas I ever had. Bright yellow mix that tasted so bad. We were shorted an enchilada and the beans were runny. Our food was cold by the time and we got home. I paid cash and was never handed a receipt so didn't bother calling and asking for a refund. Super disappointing quality.

Ava Z.

Yelp
Small restaurant. First come first serve. Food was quickly delivered and tasted good.

Chris P. B.

Yelp
A worthy place to stop for authentic Mexican in the Joshua Tree / Yucca Valley area. Hungry after a long day in the National Park, we happened upon El Guero and found a square meal that left all in our party stuffed and satisfied, without breaking the bank. Chips and salsa comes for the table (the salsa is excellent, so be careful to save room for your meal). Nachos Supreme with chicken was well done. The cheese was a favorite among our crew, as it was stretchy and hearty. Overall a great dish for the table. The corn tortilla fajitas with shrimp, steak, and chicken (Fajitas Texanas) were a lot of fun to eat and everything was well seasoned - the proteins were steaming hot, and delicious. Beef enchilada was well prepared, but the red salsa it came drenched in left something to be desired in terms of flavor and kick. Maybe go with the green salsa instead if selecting this menu item. We ordered flan but never received it. That's okay, as we had no room for it. Overall, the space is very welcoming and the servers are not overbearing. The restaurant had its booths and tables spaced out well for COVID, but of course it's a small space so consider that if eating in. Would stop here again if in Joshua Tree and feeling Mexican food.

Dorothy S.

Yelp
Don't let the size of the restaurant fool you! Excellent food and a great wait staff. If you love Mexican you will love this place .

Bianca G.

Yelp
Delicious and easy local Mexican spot! I've only done delivery but whenever I've called the lady who answers the phone is super sweet. Definitely a solid go-to when craving street style tacos and sopes!

Jesus R.

Yelp
I think it's a little over priced. I had chilaquiles with eggs And my son had pancakes orange juice and coffee 44 plus dollars the food is ok nothing special

Ricardo D.

Yelp
Food is amazing and customer service was great! Ordered the Chimichanga and it was so good!

Kacey G.

Yelp
Awesome enchiladas and salsa. Will definitely be back when I return to the Joshua Tree area!

Donelle M.

Valerie H.

Yelp
We had a mini getaway and was craving some menudo/pozole.. found this place on yelp and we decided to give it a try. Food was so good!! The service was one of the best customer service I have truly ever experienced!!!! I highly recommend you try this place for delicious Mexican food and such kind people who actually care about your experience. I will definitely be back whenever I am in the area again for another mini getaway! Nothing but great things to say about this place.

Doug S.

Yelp
It took awhile after entering to be acknowledged, though once we were we quickly received chips and salsa. The food took longer than I would have expected, but that's okay. My hash browns were more like hash "whites" because they weren't cooked long enough. I don't know why any restaurant would use American cheese instead of Cheddar.

Yelp
Update October 2021: We've had other menu items here, the Chile relleno, the Chile verde burrito and the tostada. Relleno: totally worth the price! Big chile, not at all too spicy and not overly battered. Ordered that when I noticed several diners enjoying it, and am glad I did! Chile verde burrito: very large burrito that can probably be shared. Plenty of meat, beans and cheese. Very flavorful, and we ordered it wet so had the extra sauce. Tostada with chicken: this is the item that I would NEVER order again. Small tostada, not much meat, not much beans and hardly anything else. Not at all worth $7. See photos.

Olga R.

Yelp
Small place but plenty of parking outside. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good. Chicken was well seasoned. Had the jamaica and that was pretty good too. Would recommend if you're in the area.

Ivette M.

Yelp
Muy rico todo Servicio Ambiente Lo recomiendo todo lo que pedimos riquísimo Rápido y muy amables !!

Joey C.

Yelp
You can't rush food this good, so there's going to be a bit of a wait. Authenticate Mexican taqueria favors in Yucca Valley, can't beat it. Get the wet burrito, the chili verde is bomb. They have Mexican coke.

Shawna A.

Yelp
Amazing tacos and enchiladas. Fantastic staff who had great recommendations of the food. Every Tim thing is made from scratch and the salsas are to die for.

Amanda S.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times. Small place that doesn't have a lot going on with atmosphere and idk if they have drinks if going out with friends and want a full bar, but it's the best Mexican food in the area.

Sam G.

Yelp
This is a small local business who serves authentic Mexican cuisine and is far from basic. The seasoning of the food gives me nostalgia as I was raised in a very Hispanic house boiled were both parents were born in raised in deep Mexico. It's a fun sit down spot it's got the right amount of tables for party of 4 to 5 easily. We love stopping in here when I come in from Los Angeles because they have the best Menudo the coloring of the menudo speaks for it self. The breakfast menu has some very delicious originals like huevos with chorizo amazing. They also have offer some Vegetarian dishes Which is a plus. Being it's so authentic. Not far away from the shopping areas. The service has always been so sweet and so catering to your needs. It feels like a family own spot. Every one is great. They offer coke products for fountain drinks I love that. And they have the agua frescas. Best home made salsa and chips are home made. This is not a let down for a quick bite when in town visiting.

Ayin E.

Yelp
Absolutely 5 stars! This is the best Mexican food you can get in the Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley area. As good as a great one beyond the desert. And I've searched and searched. I've tried a number of joints around this area, and none compare. It's a small place, and it can get quite crowded at peak times, but it's all worth it. If you don't want to sit there, or can't get a little booth, take it to go or have Postmates bring it to you. Their tacos (both soft and crunchy--carne asada or pollo) are the very best! The very small service staff are some of the nicest and hardest working people ever. They amaze me. Tip your servers!

Kristinne B.

Yelp
We came here for Lunch, I must say the food is really really good. This is the first time I came here and I'm not disappointed. Our server is really nice and accommodating. I honestly recommend this place!

Judy T.

Yelp
$20 for two of us for dinner and it was plenty of food. I really liked the tostada and the healthy serving of guacamole. The salsa was fine. The meat was pretty good. Lovely service and it was so fast and inexpensive. A solid choice for Mex in the area. They had a few tables outside and some booths open distanced inside. I'd definitely go back - especially to try breakfast items.
