I decided to try El Imperial for lunch and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the Bacalao Guisado (stewed salt fish), which cost me $13--already overpriced considering salt fish is one of the cheapest fish you can buy, yet somehow it cost more than roasted chicken.
When I opened my meal, I found there was barely any stew at all--just mostly dry, chewy salt fish on plain white rice. Anyone who knows this dish knows the whole point is the stew. To make matters worse, the salt fish itself was over-chewy, even by salt fish standards, and just not good.
I actually had to drive back to ask for the stew, and while the server was polite, the explanation made no sense: I was told I "had to ask for it." It's stew salt fish--that should never be optional.
Overall, this meal was a complete waste of $13. Between the poor preparation, lack of value, and disappointing experience, I won't be returning to El Imperial.
