19 Showstopping Breakfast Burritos in Los Angeles

"On a busy stretch of Vermont, El Jalapeno is making some of the best breakfast burritos around. Look for the chicken giving a thumbs-up to find the restaurant, which is a small building with two windows and an outdoor seating area. Order the breakfast burrito with chorizo and make sure to top each bite with the spicy hot sauce that comes on the side." - Rebecca Roland, Eater Staff

Google
After seeing this place on tik tok and living so close, I needed to pick up breakfast this morning because it was that type of day...I'm mildly satisfied...I ordered their breakfast burrito with Chorizo a side of chips and guacamole....but the girl told me they no longer serve it. I politely point it out that it was listed and she said it was not updated from their last owner....lol After me I overheard someone ask for their tamales...also an item listed on their menu and once again they were declined being informed that it is not something that is carried anymore....double lol... Now the food, the food was cool, nothing remarkable, nothing wrong with it either...it was just very there...the Chorizo had a strong taste of cumin which I'm not a big fan of....and the chips for being store bought were actually pretty good! Check it out!

I had a bad experience today. This lady that was getting people order she always in a bad mood. She was giving attitude to two men's that were showing their receipt. And she with a attitude told them I don't want your receipt. With an attitude. So I told them. If she doesn't like her job. Why is she working here. And the 2 men's agree. And she told me that I don't have no saying. Because I wasn't here when one of the men was treating her bad. And I was like if he was treating her bad then why she didn't refuse his order. So she was lying. And she asked me and question. And I answer her. And she didn't like my answer. When I told her that she does treat people bad. And she was like you know what. I'm refusing service to you. The owner should pay more attention to her. Because the way she treats costumers. Because she is representing the restaurant. I do agree to refuse service if people are acting up. She is in her 46. She wears glasses.

Google
The pollo al carbón is what I usually get. You can get a 1/2 or whole chicken and it comes with rice, beans, tortillas, good salsas & chiles asados! The chicken is always moist and perfectly cooked over a charcoal fire. I love the red sauce reminds me of king tacos red sauce. I’ve also gotten the nachos a couple of times, not a fan of the chips they use but they put a lot of meat. Overall you can’t go wrong with the whole chicken meal with about $15 you can feed 3-4 people.(depending how hungry they are lol)

Google
Great place! My wife and I ordered from here several times during our short stay; 3 times in 5 days! We ordered their tacos and burritos and tried most of the meat options. There was no bad option, but our favorites were definitely the Cabeza and the Al Pastor. Highly recommend!

Google
Delicious and friendly service! The breakfast burritos are super flavorful and the horchata is delicious!

Google
I do not recommend this chicken, not juicy, very cooked, they do not give you the chicken that it is and the last thing that the restaurant is called jalapeño because the dish has jalapeño unless you ask for it! but when you ask they tell you that they don't have any more! it's funny isn't it? And finally, don't forget that they don't give you juicy chicken.

Google
I’m in love with their green and red salsas. The red was smoky and rich, while the green had a flavorful pepper flavor to it. The chicken was seasoned, tender, and sensational- all in a burrito less than $10. I can’t get back here soon enough.

Google
If you ever have this chicken you may never go back to costco, ralphs, vons, raising cane's, chik filet etc. Only comparable would be in a jerk centre someplace in jamaica. Wood fired taste amazing.cooked perfect fresh chickens. Lil neighborhood secret I found when I lived on Catalina and 8th.

Yelp
If you like breakfast burritos this is the place to be! Hands down one of the BEST BREAKFAST BURRITOS I've ever had. Simple but so flavorful, from the tortilla to the fillings (chorizo, bacon or sausage), eggs, potatoes, cheese and the delicious salsas. I should've taken a picture but could t stop eating it!!! It was perfect. 5/5 for sure and I will be back!

Yelp
El Jalapeño Charbroiled Chicken is your typical hole in the wall/Mom and Pop restaurant. There's no inside seating, just tables and chairs outside. The service is sort of hit or miss. The food on the other hand is absolutely delicious. My favorite is their Charbroiled chicken with a side of beans, rice, guacamole + tortillas + salsa roja. I highly recommend trying this place if you haven't already.

Yelp
This place is bombbb. I love the chicken burrito, super juicy and flavorful. Very no frills type of vibe here, but still great that they have outdoor seating for a takeout place. Menu is so reasonably priced. Staff are always nice and food always comes out quick!

Yelp
Thursday at 11 AM and it's not that busy, the people come and go. I was able to get a El Pastor burrito which she said that was her favorite and a side of the chicken noodle soup. There are benches outside that you could sit and eat at or you could take it for takeout. There's also a little lot in the back that you could park at two and there's plenty of street parking. I think the prices are very fair!! I definitely need to come back and try their Menudo on the weekend.
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
Breakfast burritos are the best in ktown. They are simply simple and just the right amount

Yelp
Awesome! I got a breakfast taco and some tacos w chicken. Everything was super flavorful and made to order! I loved every bite. I'll be back!!

Adrian Z.

Yelp
I regret not coming sooner. Chicken had so much flavor, wow. Just how I like it. clean area.

Brianna L.

Yelp
The food is very good but very bad with the service of the staff. The cashier is unpleasant to be serving, pay more attention to those who hire in their business
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Wow, for the price you really can't beat them. I had a carne asada burrito today and a chicken burrito earlier this week. The ingredients are super fresh the beans and the rice perfect. The chicken wasn't anything super special but I do appreciate that it wasn't too salty. The salsa was bomb. Yes you can get a bigger burrito with more meat at a taco stand. But right now Taco stands are charging $11 bucks or more for their slightly bigger burritos so for me these burritos are perfect for one meal. They have an all meat option that's about $11. I'll have to try some of their other stuff and update my review later. Someone said something about their food being too salty.. maybe they're allergic to salt. But other than the carne asada everything else seemed to have very little salt, unlike most other places where the beans and rice could definitely taste salt.
google avatar

Yelp
Great breakfast burrito, i had the chorizo ~ quick, friendly service. Tasty salsas! Reasonable prices! Definitely recommend

Sam O.

Yelp
Love the chicken ! Phone orders after work are literally a life saver ! Rice and beans as sides you can never go wrong . I've ordered the asada burrito as well and it's flavorful

Tommy L.

Yelp
Love the Asada.. closest place near my work.. good for the price... not bad and not a long wait.. a go to for a quick economical meal... I would recommend the chicken and the asada burrito... still big like it used to be

Dwane H.

Yelp
I tried the chorizo and sausage breakfast burrito at different times and they are both delicious. Im going to next try the bacon breakfast burrito next time I go.. The cost was $7.08 and a total cost of $7.75. Please support Local Business!

Yelp
So I was born and raised in San Diego, home of the best carne asada. Home of Las Cuatro Milpas for god sake. Upon moving to LA in 2018 was nearly impossible to find anything close to what I grew up on there. I frequented Alfredo's in Burbank for burritos but it never came close to my beloved home towns. Today, on a whim, I figured I'd try my luck and look for something on Yelp. I live a 6min drive to El Jalapeño Tacos and read the Yelp reviews so I figured how bad would a breakfast burrito be. When I got there I noticed parking was a little difficult so I parked in red and put on my hazard lights lol. I saw on the menu they had cabeza burritos so I opted to get that too. I wasn't expecting much honestly. No line, friendly workers. When I took a bite of the cabeza burrito I was so taken aback! The rice reminded me of Las Cuatro Milpas--it was fresh, hot and mushy! I love my Mexican red rice mushy in consistency. There were beans too which was nice. I asked for no onions or salsa and for 2 sides of green/red hot sauce. God that burrito was HEAVENLY. Almost brought a tear to my eye lol. The salsas were bomb too. Let me tell you, I came back after work to pick up 2 more cabeza burritos that's how good it was. Thank you El Jalapeño for restoring my faith in LA burritos. Next time I'll probably ask for cheese and a side of sour cream. Mind you, the burrito was pretty big! I only paid $15 too for both, so at $7-7.50 a burrito I'd say it was a steal.
google avatar

Erica S.

Yelp
The burritos are Yum!!! I usually just get the all Carne with cheese burrito. They put their red hot sauce, just enough for the Spicy bite that we love.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
Don't buy there Asada meat because it's shredded beef with Bones,I almost broke my tooth with there bones...Burrito was nasty!!!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Look it's 2022 and I still come here! I don't even work near this place anymore but will come out to pick up a rotisserie chicken family meal, chicken noodle soup, or a BRC. Over the years this has been my "go-to" to pick up dinner at a Hollywood Bowl event. I've gotten their breakfast burrito and it's super filling. Love this place.
google avatar

Noah R.

Yelp
Did a phone order of 6 asada tacos 2 carnitas Each tacos is about 1.80 They do not have buche here . But the other meats they have are good. The green salsa doesn't have much flavor but the red one is really good . This place checks out as a good spot to get some tacos fr Total for the 8 tacos was 14.37
google avatar

Criselda E.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito is the best one in ktown, not only, i had a hard time finding one after a hangover, and this hit the spot. Carne asada burrito is better than some of the taco trucks nearby (El Flamin' and El Toro) 10/10 always recommend, no parking really because the kbbq in the area takes up all the space.
google avatar

Faith M.

Yelp
I've always loved this food. They have one of the best salsas that I've ever tasted. The carne asada is so good that I sometimes just order extra and love the flavor. I've always been coming to this place ever since I was a kid and it brings back many childhood memories. I had a family member's working here many years ago and they always made sure that everything inside the kitchen is in check and makes sure that there's always fresh ingredients being used daily.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast burritos for a great price. The chicken here is so good too. My go to's are the sausage breakfast burrito and the half chicken combo.

SW B.

Yelp
Your typical street tacos, I've tasted better. If you're hung over and need something to help with the beer this is your spot. But if you want flavor go somewhere else $10 for 5 tacos isn't a bad deal but you're not getting gourmet food
google avatar

Addison P.

Yelp
Hidden gem Burritos and hot sauce are probably one of the best I've had in LA. Crazy I've missed out on this place
google avatar

Major T.

Yelp
Chicken is dry, as if they smoked into jerky. Burritos have no meat. Might as well just call it a bean and rice burrito. It was a horrible experience unfortunately. This place always smelled good from far, but it's far from good.
google avatar

Boram C.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito!!! Best mom made bacon breakfast burrito I've had in a while. Good ratio of barks and protein, a little over $6, must try.
google avatar

Krista A.

Yelp
Tried the bacon breakfast burrito. Very good. Fresh ingredients, great flavor and value. Will return when visiting LA. Ate too fast to take a pic.
google avatar

Yelp
Korea town, CA I have been coming here for years. As far as a chicken burrito, its the best in the area. Its so flavorful, great, n price is amazing. Their is an outdoor place to sit only. I highly recommend this place. I do ask for no salsa n no jalapenos. So much flavor.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Decided to treat myself after getting off the bus from work, my stop was right in front of this place and thought "why not?" I'm not a native here and my mom is all the way back in the east coast, so living here sometimes makes me miss her cooking, her Menudo/Mondongo. I've tried out different spots, and they haven't really gotten it right, EXCEPT FOR THIS PLACE. Their Menudo tasted just like my mom's, and I was so happy!!! The tripe was so SO SO SOFT and easy to eat, the broth was so good, I sorta just inhaled it all. They give you little condiments if you want to add them, which is nice. I'll be back!!!
google avatar

Miia Harris H.

Yelp
I've had better. The meat was definitely over cooked and a little salty. the nachos was soggy and that was weird because we ate there. Okay that's it :)
google avatar

Derek L.

Yelp
Want a formidable breakfast burrito that's not expensive like weak-ass hipster places that use SEO keywords like "hand-crafted"? This is the place. I don't know where they get their eggs or bacon from; for all I know they get them from JONS right down the street. Doesn't matter. The burritos are big, more than filling, and taste great! You can split it with a hot chick or dude you met last night that ended up staying over or a friend that meets you there to eat on the outdoor seating. I've been going there for well over 5 years and it's always the same friendly and lovely person taking the orders. Please give them your $$$. They are doing good work and providing quality food made by real people in a real kitchen.
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
El Jalapenno has really good smoky chicken. My favorite is the chicken burrito and I always get cilantro and onions out. The chicken is moist and well seasoned, the other fillings in side the burrito is good, I think overall a solid burrito. It's my favorite Mexican place lately. I can't really comment on any other items since I don't get anything else. Parking is free and relatively easy since the other KBBQ place is temporarily closed.
google avatar

Jada G.

Yelp
I wasn't blown away by this food, and considering estamos en California I had higher expectations. The tacos al pastor were underwhelming; there was mostly pineapple-marinated onions rather than actual pineapple, and the meat itself wasn't incredibly impressive. I had an even less impressive carnitas taco, which, while the sauce was great, everything else about it was rather mediocre. Now, I know you're probably like "why would you get a taco in Koreatown?" but let me tell you that tacos aren't bound by geography, especially when you're in the same city as some great gems. I thought the novelty of it being an actual outside stand was nice since I'm not from LA, but other than that I definitely could have gotten better tacos from the place down the block in South Philly.

Yelp
Deliciosos los pollos que ahí hacen y los burritos lo recomiendo....Todo lo demás buenísimo

Yelp
In my ongoing quest for some of the more unique and best breakfast burritos in LA, I discovered this Koreatown taco stand known for its fresh grill-roasted chicken. I decided to customize one of their BREAKFAST BURRITOS by substituting my customary bacon filling with a healthier option--their popular fresh barbecue grilled chicken-- right off their outdoor grill. It was stuffed with egg and stewed pinto beans (much healthier than traditional refried beans). This "grandote" burrito could have easily served two (I wrapped half of mine up in foil to have for breakfast tomorrow morning). Normally their breakfast burritos are only a bargain $5.50 for their humongous size, but I paid an extra dollar to include the fresh shredded roasted chicken which was "muy deliciosa." They have decent homemade red and green salsas to accompany their food as well. The "A rating atmosphere here is ultra simple with clean outdoor stainless steel fast food tables and a shaded awning. Very small parking lot shared with other businesses. Some street noise. But I love breakfast burritos and when in the area will definitely drop by again (but if you like coffee with your breakfast I would recommend bringing it from somewhere else nearby).

Dolores G.

Yelp
We'll this spot is very close to where I live ; whenever I don't have time to cook this people feed me well ... I'll buy a whole chicken with sides good enough for diner and lunch next day ... we love their burritos and tacos of carne asada they have a tangy flavor ... you won't be disappointed... is not fancy eating but affordable and well prepare!! Thanks for being there for me!!

John B.

Yelp
Small little place. Great service. Fast and affordable. Best chorizo breakfast burrito
google avatar

Muffin Y.

Yelp
Ordered carne asada nachos...delicious! Nachos with gooey cheese poured all over and LOTS of delicious meat. The meat tastes like it has a hint of lime flavor....so good~ I will definitely get this again. Everyone's take on how they want and like nachos is very different. These nachos were exactly how I wanted them!
google avatar

Samantha O.

Yelp
It's pretty hard to beat $1.47 tacos. They aren't the best tacos I've had by any means, but they were decent for the price! I got the al pastor and carne asada tacos. Carne asada had a nice kick of lime to it--not sure if that is common for carne asada but it was the first time I noticed the lime-y taste. Al pastor was pretty good but on the sweeter side. Maybe it's the marinade they use? I enjoyed eating it but would not recommend getting it if you are a die-hard al-pastor fan (like I am) who doesn't want to be disappointed. It is true that they water down their red and green sauces, but they still had some flavor so I guess I can't complain!
google avatar

Erma J.

Yelp
False advertising ; the breakfast burritos are $6 instead of $3 which is fine but keep it real. Secondly the lady got mad when I asked to have a 2nd Hot Sauce the clerk lady appeared agitated. Barely any vegetarian options. I went on 5/20/19 & I will not be back. My burrito had eggs & hash browns SMH
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Have you seen a three-legged chicken? I have, in my take-out box from El Jalapeno $10 for a whole chicken (pollo entera) and it comes with tortilla, rice, beans and red and green salsa. If you're lucky, the guy handling the bbq will throw in an extra leg. The entire menu is en espanol but even a transplant like me who have no prior knowledge of spanish can understand. The smell of their roasted chicken will lure you to this Mexican stand. Located outside Soowon the kbbq place, it makes you stop and think if you really want to wait 40 minutes for kbbq or get some awesome smelling bbq chicken. right then and there. If you take it home, you'll want to tear into the box of chicken at the next stop light. The food is a tad healthier than Dino's http://www.yelp.com/biz/dinos-chicken-and-burgers-los-angeles but mmm, Dino's flavor and the bed of fries make me drool just thinking about it. Diiiiiinooooooo's. Back to El Jalapeno, to round out this little piece of Mexicana on Vermont, they blast music from the Motherland (probably El Gato, the station that replaced Indie103.1). Not to worry though, the cashier speaks perfect English and accepts American dinero. See pics!
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
My family and I went here to grab a quick bite of tacos while waiting for our reservation to be called at the Korean restaurant across from this place. There are only benches for seating. Prices are average for tacos and their tacos are juicy - packed with flavor. A plus is that there is complimentary Pico De Gallo salsa displayed outside the taco shop. The combo of tacos with Pico De Gallo tastes amazing! This place can be easily overlooked with so many other restaurants crowding around on this street, but it is definitely worth a quick bite!
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
I went there cuz of the reviews i saw, i ordered asada, carnitas and al pastor tacos with aguas frescas. Honestly i dont see the big fuzz, the meat was too hard probably over cooked, the girl taking order was so quiet not that friendly. The tacos are $1.60 i think something like that, i think is good to try the food there but not so impressed about it, i will go again for another try and see if its better.
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
The chicken burrito is so bomb. Love that it's well seasoned. Not a fan of bland burritos. The tortas are so good too! Large horchata is a must.
google avatar

Habiba M.

Yelp
Great little, on the street, Mexican food joint in the heart of k-town! There is a little shack right next to it churning out WHOLE grilled chicken... texture is almost exactly like Dino's chicken. Crunchy but not greasy skin, wings and edgy bits! Flavor profile however, is very different from Dino's. More traditional flavor. My whole chicken was a meal that came with perfectly cooked fluffy Mexican rice and aldente beans. Beans could probably use a bit more salt. I also had their Pura carne asada burrito, where the only carb source is the tortilla it's made of. It is a generous heavy portion for the price, and tastes (almost) delicious! I have a ridiculous low tolerance for sour things. The squeeze of lemon in the burrito was all I could taste. So, if you are like my husband and take your lime with tacos and Sea food, you will LOVE the burrito! Although I didn't enjoy the burrito as much as I hoped, this little gem deserves 5!
google avatar

Jefferson L.

Yelp
This place is not serving pork meat they are serving Pure Fat of Pork! I don't know how did they got a lot of good review out of people! The service is horrible! The food is terrible! Not gonna come back or recommend to any of my friends!
google avatar

Ewa A.

Yelp
I was gonna take a picture and then got so excited about the smell on my plate I forgot. The charred Chicken is amazing, not over cooked anywhere or dry. It's perfectly seasoned and always gone too soon. I usually get the medio and It's enough for two. So so so so so worth the wait if there is one (usually a little bit of a wait on sundays). Yessss get this charred chicken! Be sure to specify charred, or they will just serve you their standard chicken with rice and beans (which does not come with the charred.)
google avatar

Alexander W.

Yelp
For what I got, it was dope. Ordered a breakfast burrito as a snack before heading over to get some KBBQ. It did not disappoint. In fact, it may have outdone the KBBQ place next door. The tortilla was well-cooked, a little toasty/crispy on the outside. Inside, the cheese was melted, the bacon and sausage (we got half and half) were warm and crispy, and the hashbrowns were crispy as well! It was all-in-all a well put together burrito. The tomato (pico de gallo) was very tasty as well. Perhaps the only disappointment was their salsa roja, I was not a huge fan. But $7 for a humongous breakfast burrito. Although it's a little more than your typical burrito (I think because we got half bacon/half sausage it was a little more) it is well worth it. Recap: - BOMB breakfast burrito - so incredibly well-made - get half bacon, half sausage - huge burrito, good price Added picture

Yelp
El J Tacos is smack dab in the middle of the neighborhood in which i grew up. At the time there was a Cuban Chinese restaurant near and boy did they have revolutionary food. I appreciate it now more than i did then for sure. But i digress. El Jalapeno has good tacos but i come here for the chicken (Pollo Rostizado) which is grilled outside on a flat coal grill and is also revolutionary in that it is tasty, savory, juicy, luscious to bite into and ultimately sexy as all hell. Though they don't know or care to advertise it or include it on their menu board they grill Natural chicken raised without antibiotics. This really comes out in the ultimate plate of chicken that you buy. and what it does to your body when you digest it. The taste is clean and not muddled with preservatives or injected flavors. For about 14 bucks you can buy a whole chicken with beans, rice and tortillas. Good deal. They have tacos for about 1.50 and these are good but mostly variable. Go for the chicken. They marinate it in a mystery sauce and grill it simply though the ultimate product is far from simple. As they say: the proof is in the pudding, right? As a side positive, the beans and rice are cooked without an abundance of salt which in this environment is a plus.

Yelp
I ate from here a few times and the food is okay, but I got the tamales today since I'm tired of tacos and burritos and they was dryer than my phone :/ it came with green sauce and not even that helped. I was kinda salty cause I was hungry and I ordered 3 hoping that they would be good but they were subpar at best. I'm still gonna eat them but it would be nice if this establishment can make the tamales less..dry?
