The Best Tacos In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"A morning visit to El Lado Taco results in both time and money well spent. Order any three breakfast tacos—on your choice of homemade corn or flour tortillas—and you’ll get a free cup of coffee, which you can sip slowly at the counter or a small table. If you want to do work there, no worries—they offer wifi and charging stations too. You could stop by for brunch or dinner, but the breakfast tacos, loaded to the gills with fluffy eggs, are where El Lado really shines. Order one or two at a time and eat them hot, right off the plancha." - neha talreja, kenny yang, carina finn koeppicus, willa moore, will hartman

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Move over working from coffee shops. It’s time to work from taquerias. El Lado Taco in Astoria invites diners to do just that, while eating breakfast tacos or regular ones. The tortillas—both corn and flour—are made in house, and they promise strong wifi. The tacos are served simply with onions, cilantro, and salsa." - will hartman, bryan kim

The 23 Best New Restaurants In NYC

"For excellent breakfast tacos, head to El Lado in Astoria. Served on your choice of handmade corn or flour tortillas and piled high with fluffy eggs, these tacos (starting price $3.25) defy the rising cost of your weekly dozen. Get three tacos and they’ll also throw in a cup of coffee. Just make sure the El Buen Dia with spicy longaniza is in the mix. El Lado also has wifi and plug points for a morning coffee-taco-laptop situation." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah, bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, will hartman, will hartman, bryan kim, willa moore, willa moore, will hartman, bryan kim, sonal shah, will hartman, will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpat

Spicy longaniza mixes perfectly with the eggs. Get it on flour, and drown it in chipotle peanut salsa. photo credit: Will Hartman Migas Another hit, with sweet, stewed peppers and those same great eggs, topped with crumbled tortilla chips. We like this one on corn. photo credit: Will Hartman Costillas For a meatier option, go for the costillas. The sweet porky flavor of the hyper-tender rib meat goes really well with the salsa verde and corn tortilla. photo credit: Will Hartman Al Pastor We weren’t crazy about this al pastor. The meat is a bit tough, so we stick with the costillas instead." - Will Hartman

Absolutely thrilled this place opened in Astoria! As someone who loves Mexico City, I can vouch that these tacos are as close as you get to the same quality and flavor. They are a new restaurant on the busy block, but I’ve loved all of their offerings and there is always something new to look forward to on the menu! Their breakfast tacos are superb, I wish they served them all day! There are tons of vegetarian options that are fantastic using mushrooms, cactus, eggs, beans, and vegetables. The fresh tortillas and salsas really perfect the flavor profile and I’ve loved the shrimp and fish options they recently added! Their corn tortilla is vegetarian and I think flour tortillas have lard. Highly recommend this little joint for some of the best tacos you’ll find in NYC! Will be coming here for years to come!

“El Lado Taco is a hidden gem. I didn’t know what to eat, and since I’m not a fan of American food, I decided to try this place out of curiosity. I ordered three tacos and got a free large coffee with them. The tacos were absolutely delicious! I have a lot of experience with Mexican cuisine, and without a doubt, the food here is excellent. The place is very nice, with a cozy atmosphere, and the staff is super friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back!”

Google
New taco shop, A+ all the way. A smidge pricey ($4.50 per) but inventive, tasty and friendly. Worth a recommendation. As of March 9, 2025, they've not been granted a liquor license yet, so plan accordingly.

Google
Super impressed with the breakfast tacos here. Quite the variety of options as well. The homemade tortillas and sauces were top notch. Such an amazing addition to the neighborhood. Staff is also super nice. This place is a sleeper.

Just discovered this new Taco spot. They serve freshly made tortillas every day with a lineup of irresistible taco choices! Their tacos are loaded and so juicy! Don't forget to level up with their amazing sauces. Definitely a great addition in Astoria neighborhood.

Google
Finally, a breakfast taco spot! The three taco deal with coffee fills me up for almost the whole day and it’s well priced. They stick to the traditional flavors and clearly take a lot of care with their ingredients and cooking. Thanks for filling a big gap in comfort food here in Astoria.

Google
The best breakfast tacos I’ve had in NYC. Being from Texas, breakfast tacos are a staple and I have a high standard. These are incredible - the corn tortillas are soft, the salsas are flavorful and the right spice, and the variation of tacos is perfect. Easily my favorite restaurant in Astoria, we come every weekend for our breakfast taco fix! And the service is 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

We came knowing it would be good and were floored to find it even better than expected. Authentic tacos, perfect guacamole, friendly quick service, upbeat atmosphere. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Yelp
BEST TORTILLAS!!! was able to quickly stop by for a quick bite before a flight and had to say that the tacos and guac were so good and affordable. you can see the chefs in the back prepare the homemade tortillas and bring them out fresh to the table. good service and will definitely be back when in town

Yelp
100/10!!! My fiance and I tried this new taco spot last week and were blown away with how fresh and tasty the tacos were. I love the simplicity of just selling tacos. They're a decent size too. We ordered the al pastor, gaonera, nopales, and costillas. Everything was delicious! Service was amazing and love the decor too!

Yelp
Came here for consecutive meals like an insane person - it was that good. I got three tacos for dinner - steak, pork rib, and al pastor - and all three were fantastic. I came back the next morning for brunch and it was also excellent. Can't recommend the steak and grilled onion taco from the lunch / dinner menu highly enough. Small, cozy space with some nice music and very attentive staff.

Yelp
Great new spot to have near us! El Lado does CDMX-style tacos and they do them better than a certain buzzy celebrity chef spot in Williamsburg. I love that they do both flour and corn tortillas, both made in-house. I've long lamented the lack of quality flour tortillas in New York but El Lado is fighting the good fight. My fiancé and I hit this place up for dinner and ordered a slew of tacos: the al pastor, the gaonera, the campechano, and the costillas. Each one was great and we're definitely coming back asap to try the breakfast selection too. The sauces are also amazing and a bit more unique than typical taqueria offerings. The chipotle in particular is packed with smoky flavor. Best of all, the prices are reasonable - $4.25 per lunch/dinner taco and $3.25 for breakfast ones - and each taco is sizeable too. We each had three and were comfortably full. The employee was also eager to help and hear any feedback. This shot up to our top 5 spots in the city and we'll be back many more times, I'm sure.

Yelp
Yes!!! This is a very welcomed taco spot in Astoria! The vibes here are immaculate. Came here to try a few tacos and I honestly cannot wait to come back. Tried their bacon egg and cheese and al pastor tacos with their hand pressed Sonoran flour tortillas and they were fire. The eggs were super fluffy and buttery and you get large pieces of thick cut bacon. The al pastor was plentiful and flavorful and of course there's a slab of grilled pineapple on top. Love that the onions and cilantros were on the side for you to add yourself. The hot sauces were fantastic. Best of all, most tacos are still under $5. Breakfast options are available only until 3pm.

Yelp
Newly opend taco spot in Astoria that offers handmade fresh tortillas everyday. The vibe is modern with touch of Mexico City. The menu items are all less than $5, either breakfast of lunch. Some of our favorites are Al Pastor & Gaonera. If you are in the area you must definitely check this out!

Yelp
This place has great photos but the actual food doesn't match. I ordered An Al pastor taco, rib taco and chorizo and they were all poorly made. The flavor wasn't there, there was more animal fat than meat. Ultimately couldn't eat them, it's a shame, I really hope they improve their quality. Their salsa was decent.

Yelp
Saw this place opened up recently and decided to give it a shot while passing by and I'm so glad that I did! I loved the steak and onion taco (you get a big piece of steak) and the al pastor! Both were super flavorful and juicy. So happy that this is in the area and I will be back soon to try the other menu items!

Kristine S.

Yelp
Pretty good breakfast tacos! I think there are some things to be tweaked, but a good start for the business. Pros: The handmade tortillas are delicious. Each taco had a good amount of eggs. Favorites so far were the bacon egg and cheese and mushroom tacos. Cons: The crispy potatoes were not crispy in the papas locos taco. They barely had any color on them and no texture. The brisket was really dry, and since that's the most expensive option, it should be better. Looking forward to trying more from the menu.

Yelp
Love this place! The tacos were so delicious and such friendly service. The guac was awesome as well. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Really delicious tacos and Mexican soft drinks, with a relaxing environment in LIC! Strongly suggested and will go again!

Yelp
Loved this new spot. Beautiful decor and hand made tortillas. Delicious sauces. This will be my new go to taco spot.
